I heard many good things about El Hazard series, so I decided to check this out. It turned out to be quite an average anime.

The animation is superb, no doubt about it. Without relying on computer graphics too much and considering its age, the animation was done well. The scenery were lush and vivid. Very nice.

The op theme song is one of my favorites. The bgm were well used.

The story...it wasn't as special as others hype it to be. I personally found the pacing to be a bit too slow for my taste. Some moments that were supposed to be dramatic didn't really had that feeling...Although classified as a comedy, it may induce a chuckle or two at best but nothing too brilliant in terms of comic relief. Most of the attempts at humor were a bit too cliche to create any good laughter.

The characters are okay. Junnei is just so ANNOYING! His crazy laughter really annoys me. And when he laughs, he has absolutely no idea what's going on around him...just a clueless maniac. The main character is the same old do-gooder like most other main character. Although Nanami, the penny pinching girl, is a rather interesting character. I found the enemies to be rather stupid. A group of enemy bugs were defeated easily by the mountain climber in the first ep, so they weren't as meancing as they were made out to be (although they might be trying to play on a comic effect here, which by the way, completely missed its mark regarding me as a viewer)

It's unlikely for me to rewatch, since it took me great effort to even plow through it. Any action orientated viewers would be disappointed...although those who enjoy fantasy and story might enjoy it. Recommended only if you could stand slow pacing at the beginning. It will pick up during later parts though.

I rather like all of the El Hazard stories, inlcluding this one!
It's an escapism anime, 26 episodes of pure fun and enjoyment, that doesn't involve thinking too hard, has a sweet romantic eliment, an "evil" villian in the guise of Jinnai and some madcap comedy moments.
If you just want to sit back and enjoy something for the sake of it, then this will do the job nicely!

I enjoyed watching this series. It's not super or exceptional in any way, but only entertainment and knows it.

The characters are quite good and are the main strength behind this. Also the setting or the El Hazard world is very nicely portrayed. Impression of an another world is there and that's just what this is all about.

Well let's just say as dated and bad series goes this has to be one of them. After hammering (literally) away at the series, I felt I had wasted 10 hours of my life >>. The story is weak and contains alot of 2 dimensional characters all seeming to adjust to people from other dimensions.
The whole series had way too many fillers - I don't really mind fillers that much as long as interesting or fun to watch. But this is terrible. I haven't seen the OVA and I heard they're alot better. Good riddens to this.

I really wanna say "just watch Magnificent World" and be done with this review. Guess I should go into why though so noone gets suckered in like me.

I really enjoyed Manificent World. One of my favorite light fluff comedy harem types (if it actually has enough lead love interests to be called a harem). It was a whole lot of fun, even for people like me who prefer to stay away from harem or anime that is a bit lacking on substance. But it's like they kill the enjoyable aspects of Magnificent World in the Wanderers.

It's a retelling, but it's lacking of the strongest points. First, the bag guys, the "Bugrom", are not fearsome in the least in The Wanderers. While this may be okay for a show that sticks to light comedy, the aspect didn't exactly add anything to the humor. Second, and worst of all for me, is Fujisawa being toned down. He was hilarious in the OVA, but just not so much here. The last is the character they altered, Ifurita. Seeing a major change to her character should interest ANY El Hazard fan, as she was a major character and draw for me in Magnificent World. However, I suggest you pass. Why? Because the new personality they gave her is the clumsy ditz. IOW, you've seen it before in a million other shows, it's not worth checking out.

Did I hate this show? No. I enjoyed it a little. But I honestly feel like I wasted my time and wouldn't recommend it to anybody. There's too much great anime on anyone's backburner, and I'd honestly think you'd be better off watching Magnificent World a couple more times. It was great. The Wanderers? Not so. Any draws were ideas taken from Magnificent World in the first place, so catch that great series a couple times and move on to some of the other hundreds of better shows out there.

Well, you should first watch the OVA first to get some idea what the real story is like and how they made this one just to suck more money out of you. When I first see this series, I thought it gonna a sequal from the ova, but it not. The story start out fresh, also they really had a differnt story line, and some character didn't show up in this one. This series had hand down for younger audien. They add more jokes, filters, and stupid laughing scenes. You'll feel like this El Hazard more of comedy and adventure. I recommence this one if you 'really' like the first OVA, if you don't.. you can try some of the first ep. and see if you like it. As for you who havn't watch the ova, you can watch this one first(if you already buy the dvd and don't want it to wasted), then watch OVA after, and see how the manificant El Hazard can be.

The story is about three young kids and a professor gets suck into another world or dimension. They try to find ways to return to their own world, and that is how the adventure begins. I don’t like the character development, specially the princess. She is kind of useless and doesn’t have a personality of her own except she likes Makoto. Also Makoto has this charm or power to make every girl fall in love with him (that is what I think)

A changed story of the El Hazard Ova series. It's more for a younger audience. Fatora doesn't exist here, and Alielle is only a cute little royal servant. Rune Venus is much younger, around Makotos age. Ifurita looks totally different and has a new personality. But this Ifurita i like more than the OVA Ifurita<- She was really annoying. The TV Ifurita is clumsy and cuter. Not a real danger for El Hazard, because she is too stupid. XD The whole story is less serious, nothing really "evil" happens. Sometimes it's boring because of the many fillers. But the Tv series has better character developments because there are 26 episodes. Nanami shows her full Greediness. ^.^ My favourites are the 1st OVA and the 2nd TV series, but El Hazard- The Wanderers is also good.

El Hazard: The Wanderers is probably the best fantasy story I've seen in anime. It ran for 26 episodes as a TV series, and Pioneer brought it out on DVD in a mere four discs, making it also really affordable. El Hazard was based on an OVA series, but as in Tenchi when it made the jump to TV, although the characters are the same, almost everything else changed. In El Hazard's case, actually even some of the characters are different, with Princess Rune and Ifurita both becoming much younger.
El Hazard is one of the more compelling worlds in anime, with breathtaking scenery around every corner, characters with brightly colored costumes and magical powers, and buildings and palaces that look like Russia and the Middle East collided. It's a really elaborate, well-drawn world, and while the animation can be uneven in spots, just the opening gives you a taste of what the backgrounds will look like, and they're pretty impressive. The series was done by the creators of Tenchi, but they seemed to learn from that, since Makoto has none of Tenchi's wishy-washyness. The main focus of the series is really the romance between Makoto and Princess Rune, but there are plenty of obstacles Jinnai and his Bugrom allies throw in their way, before the series ends with a thankfully definite, conclusive ending. The supporting cast is good, too, with plenty of side stories that develop their characters more, with the focus at times on Fujisawa and Miz, or Shayla-Shayla and Afura's rivalry. It's a well-done show with a good mix of humor, drama, and romance--the animation could be better in spots, but for a mid-90s TV series it's above average. Definitely worth watching.

NOTE: So that I wasn't tainted by how spectacular the OVA was, I watched Wanderers before any other El Hazard.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. Most of the characters were pretty good. Though some say that Ifurita lacks depth, since I didn't see the OVA, my impression of her was simply that she was really funny. The show, I admit, is extremely kiddy, though.

I watched Alternative World after this (which really is out of order, but I didn't notice it that much). Contrary to most people, I can say that I enjoyed Wanderers more. I think it was probably because there are fewer jokes in Alternative, Ifurita is mostly absent (but IS in the first ep), and Jinnai isn't as funny.
