Unlike many other mahou shoujo series, Magical Emi does not seem to have battles or even actual villains. Being an old series, there is no excessive goofiness. Instead, the emotional ups and downs of the characters are handled quite reasonably, in a warm-hearted way.

Magical Emi is perhaps best watched as a drama series, focusing on Mai leading her double life as herself and the older girl Emi. In that regard the series most closely resembles Creamy Mami. Curiously enough, after transformation the girls in both series are very heavy on make-up, not to forget emphasis on legs. Maybe this makes these shows entertainment for whole family.

Recommended.

Hm seems to follow the magical girl formula.

1) Must have cute pet or mecha that is somehow directly or indirectly tied to magic
2) Must be a cute girl with the ability to weld magic.
3) Must have some sort of magical wand or staff.. or other magic device
4) Must chant some silly phraseology or incantation.

Some Notables:
CCS, Full Moon wo Sagashite, Hime chan no Ribbon, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, Ojamajo Doremi, Magic Users Club, Mai-HiME.

In conclusion Emi does provide very funny material and at the same time uses creative plot to achieve a fun family type anime. Highly Recommended.
