| One of the funnier animes out there. Adult themes clash with animation and sound effects of a childrens' show.
Highly recommended!
(btw, may I suggest that "ecchi" or "adult" is added to the genre description?)

| You know, there's comedy. And then, there's Comedy. Ebichu belongs to the latter group.
Sex is fun. Not just having it, also seeing a direct hamster getting involved with human sexuality. Yup, that's about the basic idea of Ebichu -the housekeeping hamster-. The main star is unsurprisingly Ebichu, a pet hamster that's pretty useful for a four-legged miniature rodent: he is a very good housekeeper and is mostly responsible that his 30-year-oldish, single mistress' apartment is in good shape. You think now: "Wow, the owner must cherish this magnificent animal!" Well, you can say that happens. If you're a masochist, that is. Namely, the owner beats Ebichu up quite a many times during an episode. Reason? Ebichu lacks all human restrain about talking sex and related stuff. As he's the pet, he sees everything that happens with his owner, including all juicy things she does with her boyfriend, fittingly named Loser. Now, the owner is pretty desperate of her life and relationships and sticks to Loser even when he cheats on her, is constantly drunk and generally acts like an ass. Ebichu is always there to innocently comment on human foolness with his happy voice, never understanding how much his comments reveal of things that should have left unsaid. Thus, the constant beating (he doesn't learn anything during the series). But this is the best part of the show, just hear this this little hamster squeek all the things that nobody wants to hear. He's always so honest and always wants only to help.
Ebichu isn't all about embarrasing remarks and beating small animals up (though 80% maybe close to the truth). Ebichu's words have positive effects when they excite owner and Loser to have sex of the month or on the other hand reveals Loser's crimes of previous nights. Hey, what could be more exciting then your hamster doing all kinds of indecent sounds or singing songs with dubious content? This counselling service is taken to the extreme when it is revealed that occasionally Ebichu travels the night as Ebichuman, the little helper of anyone having sex-related problems. Really that stuff, having a little hamster telling people how to have sex or masturbate or whatever, is beyond any reason. I could barely hold my sides together from laughter.
There's also Ma-kun who won't leave your mind for a long while. His sexually charged hamster love is pretty disturbing but also so over-the-top that the side-splitting effect is here again. Then again, there probably are real people thinking the same way of hamster which kind of creeps me out. With these little sidetracks, the simplistic and repetetive idea of Ebichu gets enough beef to be interesting for the 24 episodes.
It seems that the producers noticed the humor itself was enough the carry the series. Thus, the animation sucks. Well, it doesn't suck that bad but it looks bad. But then again, the series is all about the everyday life of adults with all of its hidden troubles, so the animation actually fits the series very well in its rugged glory. The voice actors however are solid gold. Ebichu's voice is extremely cute and I just wonder how the actress could not burst out in laughter every other second. Other roles are cast extremely well and their voices really flesh the characters out.
I'm afraid that secretly Ebichu is the most important anime work of this decade telling us who people really are and why they are like that. But this wisdom is hidden somewhere deep and we cannot see it yet. Humanity must mature before the lessons of Ebichu can be understood. So, relax and enjoy one of the funniest anime out there.
P.S. Actually I'm not that sure was Ebichu male or female. Those hes could be shes.

| (AMPEG and Seichi fansubs, very good idea to present the translation notes in such a detailed way. Of the best subs regarding ''cultural'' references)
As other reviewers mentioned after watching the first pictures I thought I saw Hamtaro. The animation resembles that anime a lot. But the fact is that I never liked that anime. Ebichu on the other hand had some funny moments and the uncut DVD version had some exquisite vocabulary.
It is very funny but problem is it wears out to quickly. Basically the same things occur. Ebichu naively tries in an embarassing way to protect her master whenever she has sex or talks to people and is always pummeled by her. The animation doesnt help at all to like the show. It was based on a manga I heard. I 'm sure the manga would be even funnier.
It features lot of sex, sexual jokes and toilet humour and perhaps the most funny and abused pet in anime. Some moments are really funny but that doesnt mean that the anime is interesting to watch. Worth checking 4-5 episodes to see whether it appeals to you. This anime isnt to be watched in a day but only one short episode every 1-2 days to be truly effective and late at night too, like South Park.
A good choice for comedy, though I've seen that kind of comedy countless of times and I dont laugh that easily anymore.

| Ebichu is an amazing anime of all times. This is an undisputed World Heavyweight Champion of the ecchi-comedy anime. This anime will hit you with the joke that will put you to the robe and while you are trying to regain your conscious the next joke will put you in a technical knockout within 5 minutes. This is the first anime that make me laugh non stop. However, I believe that this anime is totally unsuitable for an audience below 20 years old, as most of jokes will never make sense to kids anyway. Bare in minds, this anime is really rude and if you are unable to take a dirty joke then you should stay far away from this anime.
Animation of this anime is amazingly terrible. I believe that this is the worst animation I ever see in my life.
Sound is different. If you look at the profile, you will notice that the Seiyuu are high profile and coming from Sailor Moon gangs. However, you will be shock by their lines in Ebichu. If you are using to Kotono Mitsuishi as a Sailor Moon (who says In the name of the Moon, I'll punish you) or Captain Ramius Meryl from Gundam Seed (who is very high moral officers), well think again. You will learn 100 ways to swear in Japanese by the very same voice actress, who dubbed a cute looking Ebichu. Same goes to her owner (which I never care to remember her name), dubbed by Michie Tomizawa (Sailor Mars from the Sailor Moon Series, Sumire in Sakura Wars), you will be suyrprise with her roles as a horny OL. Kaisonachi (Loser) dubbed by Tomokazu Seki (Sagara Sosuke from Full Metal Panic) will give you a real surprise as he will dubbed as a horny hunk. The sound are perfect as these Seiyuu will go out of their way to make dirty joke. After I finished this series, I start to question, How can the Seiyuu continue their dubbing without laughing? How many retake they have to carried out in order to complete an episode?
Story. The story is simple, you will see Ebichu and her owner+loser daily life from morning to evening. Howver, their real value came from the activity after dark. Their joke are simple but also a hard punching joke that make the audience laugh non stop.
Character, there are 4 main characters in this anime, Ebichu, Loser, Owner, and Ma-kun. The reason I remember Ma-Kun name is because he is the most disgusting character as he is a Hamster-Lover man. Well he is at the level of Chicken-lover in Southpark. I don't think I have to say anymore. Also, these characters will do plenty of wierd things. Loser is the best. He is cheated his fiancee and he always get away.
Value, the rewatch value of this anime is among the highest. I am likely to reqatch again.
Enjoyment. This anime make Azumanga Daioh or Crayon Shinchan look like a Mosquito weight boxer, while this anime is a real Heaby Weight Champion of the anime world. There are no jabs or stupid slap stick joke. Their joke are straight punch and it will cause you 8 counts. When you regain conscious it second joke will hit you like an uppercut and you are likely to be knock out. I have couple of my friend that laugh until they fall from their sofa.

| The most annoying aspects of this comedy is how many times Ebichu gets punched and how many times the same things are basically repeated over and over again.
Although there are some interesting parts that I chuckled and laughed at, a large part of this anime is a huge waste of time. Many of the jokes or attempts at humor the hamster does feels like one long filler.
Well, the last few episodes are more funny than first for sure. It almost makes up for the really crappy first few episodes.. I mean really crappy, when it was all the bf...

| Of course, this is not anime for everyone (at least not kids ^-^), as its humour and story is concentrated on sexual life of its main characters. It is far from hentai anime, it is more a comedy about adult people's life. Anyone can find something from his or her life and laugh about that, but mostly I found something new and really laughed out lout at the crazy ideas of the authors of this anime. I can see the episodes over and over again, and still laugh a lot. The animation is not so beautifully drawn like other "normal stream" animes, but shis simple but still cute style of drawing perfectly fits this kind of comedy anime (bit similar style of drawing to Studio Ghibli's "Ghiblies".

| Well, if you are going to watch Ebichu, then I suggest you brush up on your Japanese a bit. Since most of the in-jokes are only sensible if you are familiar with the Japanese culture and their comedic styles, you won't get half of its worth unless you can grasp the meanings of jokes yourself. The fansubs had done a good job explaining some of the jokes at the beginning, but there is nothing more lame than have someone else explain the joke for you.
Granted, some episodes of the show just made no sense, but then again, who is watching this show for some serious value anyway?

| I was a little reluctant to watch a series about a 'house cleaning hamster' but this is hilarious. There really isn't a driving story behind this but its mostly about those weird couple situations but from a talking hamsters point of view. There is never a moment to feel bad about their relationship when Ebichu keeps the laughs coming in a variety of ways. It is based off a comic strip so the animation isn't top quality but it goes perfect with this series so it isn't taken so seriously. Its a great change of pace and good laugh.

| A female pet hamster who can walk, talk, read, write, do the dishes, do the laundry, get the groceries, play mahjong, become a superhero, form a haiku sentence, and make herself intolerable to everyone within the whole series is quite something to be said about this anime. It was really one of those short versions of the entire series, so there wasn’t really a given plot or any later character development, which is something that wasn’t really aimed for in the first place. The animation was made purposely to look bad, as for all of the music and seiyuu on each of the characters were fairly good; especially from the ending theme song which was nicely done. However, the humor on this one was really quite vulgar at a very high level, which I strongly suggest for not letting the younger viewers watch this, as it provides an impressively informative research to the humor with the good and in-depth perception from the other side of the Japanese culture. Episodes were based on two-part scenario. Ebichu was known to be innocent, yet dumb in the process of understanding certain things. As for the girl who is the master of the pet, is someone who I feel sorry for and was very unfortunate to have all of those bad things happening to her, although it may have been mostly due to Ebichu's doing. The loser type boyfriend, more or less is just another addition to the story, who is a person that was somewhat funny and doesn’t seemed to have any earnest relationship, while at times didn’t have any developmental value as it kept telling their ongoing short stories. There were a couple of episodes based on Ebichuman, which gives her own story as being another added side humorous plot to the series. The most disturbing character I found in this whole series I believe, is Maa-kun who is, let’s just say “obsessed” with Ebichu. Alarmingly amusing to a certain degree, but wouldn’t be something taken too seriously with having less of an actual storyline to begin with.

| *Remain Silent* Ahhh ahhh Zzzzzzzz
Hamster is dengerous animal, you should never leave them outside the box or their cage. Remember to feed your pet from time to time, keep it under control at all time. When your pet got lonely, don't talk to them instead get an opposite sex same kind of animal to do the job. Also when your pet is in HEAT, remember to buy your pet a condom or control pill. If you think your pet might want to have sex with you or vice versa, please don't do it infront of your boy/girl friend. Lastly... if your pet is somehow want to eat ice-cream or chees... plz get them to the pet shop and exchange for another one. That's all, please have a good day.

| Ebichu is ...... uh pretty damn funny I must say. It also is strange and random, but the comedy more then makes up for these faults. This is a VERY dirty anime, though not on the level of hentai's. Another reason why this show was unusual was the animation. It looks like the person that made this wanted it to look like some rejected six year olds drawing. If you want to know more about this strange anime read on.

| I talked to lot of people who like Orochuban Ebichu. They always said the same things. "The best mature humour since South Park!" "Incredibly fun!" "Only for grownups!" and that kind. I like South Park, and I don't mind seeing fountains of blood once in a while. I kinda like obscene humour when it's imaginative, or at least original.
With that on mind, I tried Ebichu. The show started pretty average; a cute lil' hamster does all the chores while her mistress is elsewhere.
Then the mistress came. And I was horrified. I thought there would be some kind of interaction, I thought there were going to be strange situations, or funny dialogues, or dirty jokes, anything.
But instead I found a series about two things; a hamster who is continuously abused, hit, insulted, enslaved, imprisoned and even robbed, and some jerks having sex for no apparent reason. Between these two situations, Ebichu will usually say something on the lines of "My mistress is a kind woman! He BJs her boyfriend though she doesn't enjoy it!" and the cycle will repeat dechu.
Ebichu is a kinda loveable animal. True, she talks too much, and she says things that will make your granny go red in the ears, but he's always trying to be helpful and she's totally devoted to her master, who turns to be a total screw, sex-maniac, ego-centered psychopat who spends her time f*ck*ng her useless boyfriend and beating the crud out of her little pet-slave.
Orochuban Ebichu is basically about two things: Sex and Ebi-chan lying on a pool of blood. There may be some profound japanese parodies hidden in there, but I didn't find them.
There was a lot of blood everywhere. And people having sex.

| The first time i watched this show I was like What the Hell?!?!? After getting pass the shocking first impression of this series you start to realize its South Park style of humor. To put it bluntly, this anime has alot of sex jokes to last you a life time along with vulgar display of animal cruelty. The story is pretty simple with very little to non-exsisting plot development. The characters,in my opinon, are what keeps this show intersting since they can be amusing from time to time when insinuating sex jokes and such. And also im pretty sure alot of lonely middle aged japanese women can probably relate to the main character's situation in the story (minus the talking hamster). This show is filled with dirty humor and violence but lacks a good animation design and plot development.

| Dirty, hilarious, and mature. If this kinda humor appeals to you, you'll love Ebichu. Ebichu is a great test of pushing the limit on censorship. A lot of cultural humor to sift through, but I doubt this series was seriously written to appeal to people outside Japan. I loved it, and hurt myself laughing in some of the eps. If seeing a hamster get abused and then make a huge number of sexual jokes appeals to you, you won't want to miss this.

| Any late teen/adults who has just a bit of sexual and gore humor will love Ebichu. This is by far one of the most outlandish anime's I have ever seen. Without giving anything away, the contrast and extremes they go on this anime is a complete jaw dropper. And it's not just blatant - anything (sex, blood, gore, violence, etc.) either. I was constantly ROTF when my jaw wasn't dropping to the ground. And altough knowing some of the japanese cultures and words would produce maximum humor, it's still worth it even without the knowledge. I would highly recommend this to any adults who enjoy wry and witty humor.

| Any title that requires a 6 minute tutorial on how to get the humor probably isnt worth it. But once you get past that, and have that knowledge, it's humor is pretty clever. The wordplay for *nub* is golden.
If japan had a skinemax-type channel, which I'm positive it does, this would be the kinda stuff they'd show. Porno w/o being really pornographic. It's full of innuendo that isnt the least bit subtle. It's cute and raunchy at the same time, an uneven balance that sorta works. There isnt any particular story, just the life of an office woman with her oft-abused pet housekeeping hampster. The animation is...there. The characters move and all that. I guess they felt that was just enough. Heh. If you like this kind of humor and just want something dumb to watch, or if the thought of a hampster lying in a pool of her own blood excites you, I guess you could do worse.
Another thing, it suprised me that the chick who plays Usagi from the first couple seasons of Sailormoon voices Ebichu. That's crazy.

| When I wasn't being educated on certain aspects of Japanese culture and increasing my Japanese vocabulary, I was laughing at Ebichu's unwittingly perverted antics. From the classy humor, profound and entertaining characters, and brilliant premise, Ebichu is one of the most educational and cerebral anime I ever had the pleasure to experience.

| If you're mature enough to laugh at low brow entertainment and not easily put up a prudish attitude, I'd recommend this title. Through the first 8 episodes I was seriously gasping for air, I was laughing so hard. It's so incedibly shocking, but in a taboo-breaking way. To think that this show was aired on (network?) television in Japan is astounding in and of itself. This really is the type of series that is so unique that you can't help telling people about it and, "exposing" them to it, if you will (haha, exposing).
The show was created by Hideaki Anno, the director/creator of both "Evangelion" and "His and Her Circumstances," two shows that are polar opposites of this one. He brought this one to TV from manga, so he didn't write it, but the simple fact taht he wanted to bring it to the immense audience of television indicates that either a) he has a great sense of humor, or b) he simply lost his mind after such heavy series as "Evangelion" and "His and Her." The voice actress for the hamster is indeed Mitsuishi Kotono, as some have mentioned. Apparently she was in "Sailor Moon," which I haven't watched, but I would also like to note that she was Misato in "Evangelion," which was certainly a trip for me. The boyfriend in it is Seki Tomozaku, who was Van in "Escaflowne," among other series. They all deliver good performances here as well, of course.
If you were my friend and didn't like this show I'd either a)respect you for it, or b) feel sorry for you. Either way, this show is certainly worth watching, as the above statement indicates; it's the type of series that will tell you something about yourself. Though there certainly are no moral lessons, it's simply a bizarre anime (because there's a talking hamster) that doesn't hold back (ie there's sex and angst galore, but it's side-slittingly hilarious).

| Let's start with saying it's not my humor. This animé is really for those who can wenjoy what before me was called "whacky humor", if you don't like that, you won't enjoy the show. I tried, since my kind of humor is pretty vague, but this really isn't it.
The setting is okay though, and the subbers are really good, they explain every joke, so you don't miss a thing, so you can learn some things from watching the animé.
Well, that would be all, i wasn't impressed, but for those who like the kind of humor, it's sure worth a watch.
