| I'm not one for vampire stories (see BLOOD+), but Tsukuyomi ~Moon Phase~ has won me over as a great vampire-based romance with a good dash of kitten cuteness and absurd jokes and gags that kept me giggling in Kouhei's and Hazuki's struggles to overcome the boundary between humans and vampires. Though not SHAFT's and Shinbo's best work, it's still a sweet story between two different worlds and an excellent example of contrasting mood shifts in anime.
The primary focus of Moon Phase is the development of the romance between Kouhei and Hazuki. Though Kouhei is your atypical dorky-turned-hero and Hazuki the mysterious girl, Moon Phase does a great job establishing their relationship and building it further with the various interventions and trials they go through. While the link between them is strong, so is the family link as provided by the fun interactions when they live and eat together. And as this is successful, so is the anime when these bonds are put to the test.
The plot is good for a vampire anime. Hazuki is rescued from her alternate ego Mistress Luna when one day Kouhei stumbles into the castle he is suppose to be journalizing about. Originally a quest to find her mother, it turns into a deserving-acceptance theme when other vampires intervene her freed life when she is happy with her newfound home. The anime is split in two - the first part is about Count Kinkel and his greed for power, and the second part is about Hazuki's sister and her accomplices trying to retrieve their beloved princess. Though played out well, the arcs are a little on the boring side sometimes (1: villainous tropes; 2: training) but otherwise serviceable for the main focus. The one thing I found irritating, though, is the lack of information and motives, but I probably just dozed off on those sections.
The art style is weird but effective. Instead of glossy animation (where budget usually goes), we get a mix of dark and creepy and bright and cute. Not unlike Shinbo's later works (most similarly, Hidamari Sketch), scenes are switched fast and furious, usually something different for each one. Symbols are variously used to represent one thing or another. Camera angles are often very angular but effective at making intense perspectives. The colouring is also masterfully done with many theme shades and many times scenes are inverted to give a darker mood. Most group character scenes are shot at a 2D angle. Action scenes aren't the best, but they're done colourfully and at many angles. It takes a little used to Shinbo's directing, but it makes for great uniqueness for every episode.
In addition to the art style, the gags and jokes are used humourously to poke fun at the character situations and point out what is suppose to be serious and what is meant to be taken lightly. The pan dropping used heavily (it's the most recent thing I can think of since there's at least 5 drops at every episode in the second arc), though it couldn't target the last villain at the end. The eyecatches are also something to look forward to as each one is guest drawn by infamous Japanese anime artists.
Sound is... cute. I'm not very fond of the opening theme "Neko Mimi Mode" (waaay too cute, but with Hazuki wearing cat-ears for pretty much all the episodes, it's fitting), but I have to praise them for using French for the ending theme (and unlike Engrish, I THINK they're pronouncing it okay). Insert disco-choirs are plentiful. Animation to the themes capture the raw cuteness of Hazuki to full extent.
I never really intended to write this much for Moon Phase... but nonetheless it's an outstanding vampire-romance anime. I found it boring mostly, but I'm sure vampire-lovers will be thrilled by this.

| No More Neko Mimi Modo PLEASE!!!
Despite it's annoying Neko Mimi fetish exaggeration Tsukuyomi Moon Phase is a pretty fun show. It also shares same atmosphere with Shakugan no Shana. Light heartet, but somewhat interesting shounen romance show. I realise I should originally hate shows like that since they have little, if any intelligence behind themselves. However, I found out that they work as a wonderful tranquilizer after watching some brain exhausting animes. I used this one up after Death Note. >_>;
If you dislike thinking (heh) or you need a tranquilizer after an intelligent show, then try giving this, Tsukuyomi Moon Phase, a shot. It's one of the least horrible brain dead shows.

| I watched Tsukuyomi -Moon Phase- out of boredom and not expecting to enjoy it. After I saw the opening song(*shocked* while in the "WTF!?" state), I predicted that I would hate this anime because too much cuteness, ends up being lame based on my experience. I was right and it did end up lame sometimes. However, my prediction of hating and not enjoying it was wrong.
I'm glad that I was able to watch this series. I admit that there are flaws and bad points in this series, but the good points eclipsed all of those.

| Absolutely horrible. The main character is annoying as hell and tries too hard to be cute. The only reason why I even watched any of this series was because they were showing it in my anime club. It became so unbearable that I simply stopped coming to meetings when this show was on.
I'm very surprised anyone would like this show even remotely. Even the storyline is frustrating. None of it flows realistically and it makes it even harder to follow when the main character keeps yelling and whining in her high pitched childish bimbo voice. I hope she dies in the end.
Even the openning and endings are annoying. ESPECIALLY the openning. grr...thinking of it makes my blood boil.

| Tsukuyomi Moon Phase is a very good anime by knowing when to be serious and when to be humurous, of course, having nice art styles doesn't hurt either.
For some reason, I quite like the art style for this anime. It knows when to be cute, while at the same time the same character can also be shown with its dark and serious face. Hatsuki's expression is particularly well done because she can be cute without being overly too cute.
Sound and BGM is also above average. While the OP and ED theme is only decent, the BGM is really good in conveying the actions, because the BGM is really the primary tool to bring out the darker side in this series.
The story is also quite well done. As said, it contains both serious (dark) and comedic elements in the series, but the series knows when to be serious and when to be humurous. Some might say the loli theme in here, but I think while Hatsuki is underaged, the anime does a good job of avoiding having stepping directly into this issue.
The main characters are well done, but inn a 25 episodes series, I do want slightly more background information with regard to this whole conflict. While you can get an impression with what is said from the characters, I still feel that a lot of the characters are brought out just to move the story along without a really good reason.
Overall, this is one surprising anime that I enjoyed a lot. I thought I would be skipping a lot of the contents when I started watching Tsukuyomi, but I ended up watching and enjoying the whole series. Maybe if the producers had make a better ending I would've given this anime an even higher score!

| When I started watching the series, I was slightly hesitant to continue for the first few episodes. However, I'm glad I continued!
The animation and artwork is decent. Not quite that amazing, but the characters and storyline more than make up for it.
Overall, I felt that this was a really heartwarming story. It includes a good blend of both comedy, magic and drama. Although it is a vampire genre anime, I wouldn't at all compare it to some of the more serious ones (such as Hellsing, Shingetsuten Tsukihime). It has a much more lighthearted view of vampires.

| Moon Phase is very nice anime. Its nothing spectacular but definitely deserves to be seen.I am not a fan of LOVE -ROMANCE genre but after reading some reviews i had a feeling this might be different so i gave it a try and watched it.And i wasn't disappointed ,there is little of romance thing going on.This is more comedy show with original story and funny plot overall.Problem with this anime was that it was at moments to predictable and that spoiled story a bit.I also didn't like those "cat ears" on Hazukis head and that she looked like she is 10 years old !Cat ears + vampire ,equals Frankenstein experiment. Those two just don't go together.Okey that was negative part ,now to positive things.Personalitys of characters are great thing in this anime. It was nice to watch them all develope as story went on.All side characters are great.Elferide ,Hyde ,Midou ,Kouheis grandpa,he is fun to watch ,kind a crazy old man ,he was fun! This show could have been a lot more popular if there wasn't for some childish things in the series.I guess a lot of you that gave negative comments or will give them ,are disappointed because you expected something more dark ,since this is "vampire" genre.I see that very often.
I say just give it chance ,watch it until the end ,forget about those cat ears and vampire theme and just enjoyed this show that could be one of the best comedy shows this year.

| So cute and enjoyable!!
First of all, this is not your typical "vampire" story. Although there are many elements of mysticism and magic, it is light-hearted 95% of the time, with only and rare "dark moments". If you are a hardcore vampire Dracula fanatic, then you will be severely disappointed.
Hazuki is one of the cutest anime characters I've seen in both animation and voice. I truly love her voice and "personalities" as she changes radically from serious to silly to radical to down-right adorable. This anime's backbone is reliant on Hazuki and if you can't deal wih Hazuki's personalities and adorablness, then you won't be able to enjoy this at all like I did.
There are indeed a lot of horribly made parts. For example, the "fight" scenes with Count Kinkel... where they didn't even bother to show it. What the heck? I thought there was something with my episode.
Furthermore, some of the romantic scenes between Hazuki and Kouhei are kind of lame... the way one of them confessed is really different, but that in a sense that is why I like this so much. It is just so different from the usual boy + girl romances that I've seen in that the female character actually has a wide variety of emotions and feelings, rather than being shy or outgoing/random all the time. I also appreciate the fact that this is not a harem anime.
There are lot of inconsistences in this anime and overall, I think this anime really sucks in this aspect. Really, its kind of a Hazuki-worshipping thing. Especially, with all the costumes she wears. At least she's honest though instead of the angst annoying romance stuff I typically see.
Final verdict: a very different superficial but enjoyable anime. It is not possible to watch many of these episodes at a time because there is not much SUBSTANCE to it. Omg the ending is so lame too...

| Cat-eared vampire loli? Tsukuyomi is the next series making anime a valued art form!
Tsukuyomi starts out fun. The first episodes make clear that this isn't really a vampire fan's series. Hazuki is far from a stylish, dangerous vampire stalking in the night. She is the kind of character I would quickly become annoyed with but this parody vampire character of hers keeps me amused. It's too bad that her dual personality with Luna wasn't explored more. It was more that I awakened after the final episode to realize that I knew next to nothing of Luna. Kouhei acts his role of "onii-sama" more or less predictably but I got enough laughs from he and Hazuki to forgive it. Their relationship would have been of some interest but it seems to stop devoloping after few episodes.
Now the guy who is the star of the first half is Count Kinkel. Now there's a real vampire for you. He has the charisma for a grand vampire especially compared to the evil trio of the latter part of the series. Art is too clearly Hazuki's counterpart and for her lackeys the only creepy part is their appearance which is not enough when their characters are bland. Too bad we don't see Hazuki's father in the series, I bet he'd been twice as cool (or a total disappointment). Rest of the characters are more or less trivial. The little priestresses Hikaru and Kaoru are the most annoying people of the series, Hikaru being Hazuki without the vampire effect and Kaoru being too moe.
The story is good for first part. Then it becomes a bit too dark to be enjoyable. Splitting Hazuki and Kouhei for a time doesn't help either. Some elements are reshuffled so the story doens't seem entirely repetetive of the first half but the basic idea is the same: fighting against some strong people trying to take Hazuki away. The first part also has some extra interest with Hazuki's mother and stuff that has happened in the past but sadly this is also forgotten in the second half.
Tsukuyomi has some weird humor going on all the time. I liked the surrealism of it, like the falling pails. For the first part the humor fit the mood well, but for the more dark mood of the latter part it seemed out of place at times. The series uses plenty of neat animation tricks, so much that sometimes it made me wonder if anyone had really thought about it or was everything just slammed together. It's interesting anyway and the series looks good for the most part. I liked the opening and ending songs, especially the ending had some nice mood while the opening is simply mind blowing should prepare you for some of what the series has to offer. Background music is okay even though most of the mood is created by colors and effects of the animation.
I think that to enjoy Tsukuyomi you must take some precautions: don't wait for a good vampire story, construct a loli shield unless you like it, get a shot against little girls whining and most importantly: don't take it seriously! With this you can have a good time watching the adventures of the cat-eared vampire princess and her servant.

| Just finished watching this anime. I don't want to give it a 'perfect' score but can't seem to think of anywhere in particular where it loses out in marks.
I have to say I really enjoyed this anime, especially the way it ended out. The last episode was actually after all the action had finished and was just focusing on character development. Really great stuff.

| A friend of mine watched this and recommended it. Watching a few eps I noticed that all the scenes are very dark and have a cartoon comic like feeling, resembling the most of Frank Miller's work. But you get used to it quickly and it kinda fits the whole theme. More day scenes are brought to the serie after the first half so they bring some contrast. Character animation is good exspecially Hazuki looks cute ^^
OP was the weirdest and funniest I've heard in a long time. ED didn't really catch me (too much whispering..). The background music is great. The slow, chantlike humming brings a mysterious feeling to the scenes and the "battle music" ain't bad either. Sound actors did a good job, exspecially Hazuki and Haiji.
Story is the falling part for Moon Phase. A lot of the background is not explianed like Kouhei's and Hazuki's mothers. Although the story seems to progress the whole time as it follows closely how Hazuki's feelings and her relationship with Kouhei change. Although backgrounds and the whole vampire theme is dark there's a lot of jerking and goofing to lighten the mood. Like in so many animes the story seems like it's not finished.
Character's are truly the best part of the show. Hazuki is an adorable vampire girl, who has some troubles trusting others and seems very self centered at first. Her character grows a lot during the show. Kouhei's character has some flaws, but nevertheless is a good male protagonist. Still his "fights" with Hazuki feel like "forced" to lighten the mood and bring some comedy scenes.
From the rest worthy of mentioning is Hazuki's Shikigami Haiji, who has the greatest voice I've heard in a long time. It's sad that her story is not told to the viewer, as she links somehow to both Hazuki's and Kouhei's mothers.
Not sure if this is worth of watching again. I sure did enjoy myself watching it and recommend it to anyone interested in a light drama/comedy and of course vakmpires, watching it.

| Atashi no Shimobe!! As what Hazuki always say!!! I like this anime a lot but a little disappointed, why you might ask let me exlain. The introduction of premise is well done and the animation is amazing, specially that scene of Hazuki sitting on the rooftop of the castle. The flow of introduction of characters is good. I'm not so fond of the ending song, the opening is addicted he he he. But what I like the best is the mystical background music that seem to really enthralled me. It really just gets me.
This anime is relationship driven, and it did it well. Hazuki will take us to a journey of her self discovery and learnin to open her heart and trust others. This anime is so engaging to me that I almost cried when I thought the Elfried and Granpa died. The only backside of the story is that it was never really explained why Kohei's mother disappeard and her relation with the vampires since the last phonecall she did, and not explaining Hazuki's mother's trip and how she died. Not much background was given, and its kinda disappointing. Oh well, but all in all I enjoyed it and for those people who hasnt seen it, give it a shot.

| It's kind of weird to think that I liked this anime a lot, thinking how I'm not a vampire fan or even less a nekomimi fan.
But so it is.
Tsukuyomi hooked me a lot starting since about ep.7-8 and then until the end. The first episodes were a bit slow instead.
Animation is very well done, dark gothic athmospheres are done as good as cute/fun scenes. The girls are beautiful. Hazuki is delightful (but I prefere her without nekomimi suit)
Sound: I didn't stand the OP the first times, but then it got stuck in my head. Very catchy. The ED is so-so.
Dubbing is ok, Chiwa Saito (Hazuki/Luna) sugoi.
Story: a mix between vampires/comedy/romantic/drama. Sounds like nothing good coming out from such a thing. But I surprisingly felt myself satisfied with this anime, in all its aspects.
The story isn't deep, but at least it's involving, and sometimes even unpredictable. Also, there's a proper (yet instead very predictable..) finale, not rushed out or messed up like most of the times.
I liked the characters very much.
Although they're not exactly the image of innovation, they work together.
So i liked the cute vampire main char, her "thickheaded shimobe" , Ryuheei, Seiji. Maybe the 2 loli-like cousins were a bit too silly.
Enemies: I found some of the enemies to be very fascinating: especially the Count Kinkel and his background.
Value: high rate because to me TMP is a great product in most of his aspects.
And two thumbs up for the fansubbers: "mahou" with elegant type-settings, accurate translations, and high quality videos really made honour to this show.
Enjoyment, as said before, I wasn't totally satisfied during the first episodes (but I didn't ever think to drop the show). But hen I surely was.
Conclusion
- Vampire hardcore fans : you probably won't like this. The vampire themes is a bit... pretestous.
- Gothic/darkness fans: you could find something of your interest here, but also be very disappointed from the rest. Be careful.
- Average anime fans: give it a try, you could regret not to do it.
- Shoujo/Romantic/Kawaii-style fans : Welcome .. Watch this out!

| This anime is total fanservices. Cutes cat-girls, loli-fest, and yeah sucking blood(in cute way).
Moon Phase got only 1 intresting story about Luna's mother and her connection with the Kouhei's missing mother. But the story never develop and it end very badly. Beside the good story. You'll see simple jokes and Wash Basin falling around trying to make us laugh. I laugh... at first but then it get pretty old and sickening at the 2nd half. Cute Hazuki is only for 2 purposes, eye-candy and get really sensitive when Kouhei said something. The main couple should have more connection to the vampire instead of sitting around just to defend themself from other vampire. They never show Hazuki's father face and Hazuki never mention anything about him either. The plot die and after they defeat the first boss. Everything starting to slow down as it look like they got nothing left to do.
First half(1-13) is interesting, but then it get nowhere. 2nd loli doesn't help either. Cuteness alone wasn't enough to make this a good anime to recommend. Only if you really a fan of cat girl, you might enjoy this with obvious comedies.

| If you're downloading this expecting a common vampire anime: which means lots of violence and badass action, youre going down the wrong path
People commented enough about the opening theme, its kind of catchy, although i thought it was horrid when i first heard it, i came to like it, however the ending themes in french disgusts me because the french they use sounds so bad, and they say things that doesn't totally make sense sometimes, i know this since i am a quebecer ^^
I loved the show, it was really good even though it was catgirl infested, theres good humour and the relationships between the characters (mostly kouhei and hazuki obviously) are very interesting.
The only thing i disliked in this anime only happened in 1 episode and half of another, when there was a fight going on or other things, and they kept showing other things like a portrait while you heard the sound of the action, but as i said, it only happens an episode and half of another
If you like cute anime, with character developement and some slight action and drama, this is for you, if you want another gory vampire action anime, go away, this isnt the same as most vampires anime you've seen.

| Vampire animes have established themselves as a genre of itself these days. There are too many vampire animes that just looks, and sounds the same, which frustrated me for some time. I've been waiting to see something deliciously stylish like Hellsing to spark my interest for vampire animes and I was fortunate enough to run in to rather weird and cute derivation of vampire genre in Tsukuyomi Moon Phase.
Upon finishing this anime I've concluded that the whole purpose of this anime is to be different and original. Side cut view of Kouhei's house (which i don't think ive ever seen in any anime), great/original camera work, materializing buckets, and original color work are all great example of the attempt to be something different.
This can be hit or miss and for me it was hit. I mean I watch anime everyday and it's good to see something different that actually works. The colors provide sublime mood for every scene that its used, and the camera work i found was very suprisingly good. The buckets many time provide comedic relief. Vampire anime has been associated with gore and extreme violence and this, in a way, is a trend breaking drama that holds itself together.
The flaws come in its main content. the story is rather straight forward and simple and reveals itself rather slowly. The characters are also typical in many ways and need much more background for us to completely understand their motive for their behavior. Kouhei character could have been interesting but instead he became a stereotypical male leading role and Hazuki's journey for her mother and sort was litereally dropped in favor of some other plots that hampered her progression.
Perhaps the essential problem of the story/character is the length/pacing of this anime. This anime presents great overall potential in its possibly solid story and possibly interesting characters but nother never really materialize. Perhap is the anime was longer it would have more time to explain more personal details of each character. That said, this anime also could have benifited from faster pacing.
But I give the maker of this anime props for making something that's very different from the rest. I've been getting bored of watching animes these days and this anime is anything but boring. I think there should be more anime like this, which ventures into new stylistic methods.

| This anime is basically "average".
First, it's supposed to be a story about vampires: but alas, these are neither "cool" like Alucard in Hellsing, nore "traditional" like in most vampire show (see vampire hunter D: bloodlust to understand what i mean).
Some vampires even have animal-like faces... just ridiculous.
The story is a bit too slow (the main plot is not very complicated), and predictable.
Animation is good, the atmosphere is sometimes gothic, but that is not enough to make it great.
Characters: well... the series made some efforts to developp the 3 or 4 main characters, but do not expect much psychological depth. They are all quite stereotypical.
Sound: Argh, do not listen to the opening theme! It's pure crap, and the worse is that it's catchy and you will be "tsukoyimi mode des" all day long.
Basically the sound track was average.
To conclude, this is not a very bad anime: it'as just average, and t's pleasant to watch it when you got nothing else

| Like my friend said, in this anime even kanji have cat ears. Cutesy and fluffy are let loose to the point where they are sickening.
This anime is supposedly 'vampiric' yet that is done so pretentiously that any real vampiric connotations You might have You can flush down the toilet. Preferably with DVD's with Tsukuyomi.
Out of many vampire-related things I've seen (be it anime or not) this is by far the worst. If You are interested in such topics, my honest advice to You is count this one out.
Having dealt with main myth surrounding this pathethic waste of time, let's move onto another.
There are rumors that it has a story. WRONG. It doesn't. It tries to tell You several things and lacks time for them (no wonder) due to out of proportions cutesy splashed all over the place. Thus plot resembles swiss-cheese more than anything (as far as coherency or consistency is involved).
That's the basic problem with Tsukuyomi, it reaches out for great many goals, and in the end achieves none.
Then we have characters, who are cliche and mostly annoying.
Hazuki is hackneyed split personality girl, Hiromi is a plot (and fan-service) device, Kaoru and her sister are Lolita's incarnates. Kouhei is just as bland as it can get, though I must admit, he DID had spine... for about hundred seconds in the whole series.
Add in some bad taste and a serious case of cat-philia, and You've got Tsukuyomi.
My advice? skip this one. You'll do Yourself a favor, and You won't be infected with extremely contagious opening song, like I did. 'Neko-mimi mode' was immediately glued to my head and even now I could still sung half ot this damn song. It's extremely catchy.
Only two things are coming to mind about it other than this.
First it's as catchy as it is stupid.
Second is the amount of puns on Full Moon (japanese kanji plays on word 'tsuki' - moon) - HUGE fails to describe it.
My recommendation - skip it. Leave it. Don't buy it. It's ain't worth it, unless they'll pay YOU.

| I have seen through the 8th episode and I really enjoy watching this anime. There was a LOT of work put into Hazuki character wise, her personality her animation, very well done, yet the other characters seem to have much less thought put into them, and they are very generic.
Normally I skip the op of every anime, but I cant skip this one (at least im not sick of it yet, but I can see it happening) while the song itself is good the animation they put in with the song is... very cheery, and senseless. ie 3 hazuki's pop out of a bowl of ramen, and the 2nd one has a vegtable on top of her head.
Story is a mix of a few popular plots. Kids with missing/lost/deceased parents in seach of them. Boy/girl living together with lots of conflict and affection. The twist on the vampire part is new, a young spoiled princess vampire who seems to never get things her way.

| Quite a vampire anime this is. I was a bit hesitant to watch Tsukuyomi but after the first three episodes, I found myself hooked on it. Hazuki is definitely too cute to be a vampire and her childishness makes her cuter than she should be. The opening is extremely catchy in tunes and funny visually. The ending is quite something, and it reminded me of that latin opening in Elfen Lied with that vampire-ish theme. The story itself is pretty gradual but all the humor makes up for slow development. Overall a good series to watch and probably a bit underrated, mainly because it's just another vampire series.
