Well first off i want to say that Mahoraba Heartful Days is mostly an anime about comedy. Well that tries to be a comedy. I mean most of the time the jokes are pretty stupid or just doesn't make me laugh. However there are some pretty good moments. Well with these jokes there isn't much going on with the story or there isn't a plot really. Basically I believe the story is about the daily life of the residents in the old Japanese style house apartment. Here they introduce six residents and the newcomer which makes seven.

Now what makes the story pretty interesting is the main heroine Kozue. What makes her interesting is that she has multiple personalities. In other words turns into a completely person. We have 1. The hotheaded or courageous one. 2. The six year old girl. 3. The cosplay girl. 4. the shy/magic girl. The only way to get one of these girls is to get Kozue into a shock. However when she transforms she cannot remember turning into them. Also each different personality has different names. Now as for the other residents we have booze girl, energetic young girl, poor hopeless mother, a guy who has a puppet dog do all the talking, a photo maniac, and a girlish looking boy with a girlish name whose draws picture books for children. Well he is the main protagonist. He gets enrolled in a school and studies there. However he has a hard time finishing his homework because he has hard time living in the apartment. Reason is that there is always a party or someone who bothers him and needs help. Now that is what basically happens in 20 episodes they show here. I will say that how they introduced the story was pretty good because it was a good way to end the show with it too.

This is okay however i was disapointed with the story. I mean party party and more party. Can't they think of something else? Well they do go to a beach, treasure hunting, and picnic. But basically nothing knew really occurs. The love relationship wasn't really developing that well either. Also they really didn't explain how Shiratori and Kozue met. Well they did mention that they met, however Shiratori doesn't remember. It would have been good if they did mention when and how they met, but they never did. But overall it was quite enjoyable. Oh i thought the guy in the green clothes is the best. Not the dog dude.

Want something that is just plain fun to watch. In a stressful mood and you want to let off some steam. Some people may find this boring and totally pointless, but an anime doesn't need to have a good story to be good. It could just be something fun. And FUN is what Mahoraba does best. Also Mahoraba tends to be a little slower than most animes taking its time going through the episodes.

The animations are decent and the episodes never look too bad and the animations stays fairly consistent. Mahoraba is intended to be an all age appropriate audience, so the character designs are fairly cute and all the characters are likeable. Backgrounds are usually colorful, but they do seem a little plain compared to other animes. Catchy background music that seems to get overused, voice acting that is pretty good, and sound effects that seem to fit into the series. The sound isn't particularly flushed out to the max, but it's full of light hearted tracks that are soft on the ears. The OP song did a good job capturing the innocent sound of the show.

Not all animes need a story to be FUN. But it would help if an anime had a good story to be good. Mahoraba's story is slow and tends to be nonexistence at times. The story is indeed fit for a children's book, because that is what the main plot is about. A boy who moves into this inn, so he can attend an art school. At the inn he meets a whole bunch of friends and he also meets this one girl that isn't who she really is. But really she's a lot more than meets the eye.

The characters were all fun. F-U-N, they do have some sort of background story, but when the show tries to be a drama. You just can't take it seriously and the drama does start kind of late for an anime series. Like you'll be watching Mahoraba and you'll probably ask yourself "why are you watching this?" I did a ..... couple of times. But I stuck through it and found Mahoraba to be pretty enjoyable and really relaxed.

Mahoraba will throw away most audience members with its complete slowness and lack of story. But for those who don't need a story to fully enjoy an anime then Mahoraba is up your alley. Who knew an anime about nothing could be so fun?

Based on 13 of 26 episodes:

Mahoraba is one of those slow progressing animes in which nothing really happens. It basically tries to be a comedy with a variety of female characters bullying the main male character. Like all other animes, each one gradually grows affectionate with him in their own weird way. Furthermore, aside from the main female love interest character, Kozue, they all know what he's thinking and bully him anyway. As a result, every day is filled with a bunch of random events as the girly-faced, good-natured Shiratori gets thrown around, bullied and baked on a stick.

However, Mahoraba does have some novel and unique sides to it: they try to make things interesting by giving the main female love interest many different personalities. From what I've seen so far, Kozue has 1) a cosplay maniac personality 2) a elementary school personality 3) an aggressive yet naive character 4) her main clueless character. Furthermore, the other tenants who live with Shiratori are definitely characters I've never seen before. For instance, he lives with a sadistic sarcastic picture taking female, an aggressive party-animal girl, a poor capable elementary school girl and her incapable mother. Each character have their cute sides, but in general they aren't developed very well. Sometimes, the characters are just so weird and "in their own world" that things feel out of sync.

So, what's the point of Mahoraba? In general, it is just Shiratori and Kozue's daily life living at this Japanese style apartments; a small world away from reality. As these funny characters gather together, a bunch of odd events happen - in an attempt to make comedy (e.g., treasure hunting, playing hide and seek, being set up, etc.) With the lack of depth and story, if it wasn't for the unique cast of characters, Mahoraba would be unwatchable. However, Mahoraba leaves somewhat a relaxed feeling, and is good to watch from time to time. Personally, I want more substance from my anime, and Mahoraba is just isn't my type.

This is not a harem anime, this is more a "feel good" anime than anything else. It's not made to be awe inspiring as it isn't, it isn't made to be a bunch of parodies nor extremely funny. It's fun and more or less "sweet".

Like people said it's not for everyone, it's just a light-hearted (half-way, luke-warm maybe sorta cold) comedy/romance, so it's really not worth watching.

But as a comedy don't expect it to be "that funny", if someone asks me to recomend a comedy this anime will never come to my head.

there is no point of comparing this to love hina or aiyori aoshi cause this anime isn't a harem and it isn't COMPLETELY FULL OF FANSERVICE, very light-hearted, and the characters are actually likable. But anyways I liked mahoraba ~ heartful days~ better than love hina

Wow this was a boring and pointless series. It was happy and good natured but that's all I can say for it. There was no plot throughout everything--a couple of superficial arcs for a few characters, but nothing to tie the series together.

This is a series for little kids. It's even centered around an aspiring children's author. I wasn't a big fan of the animation. Nice settings and bright coloring, but everyone is small and not realistically drawn. The faces lack detail.

It's about a young guy (high schoolish but barely even that) who moves into an inn and finds his long lost childhood female friend. Mild romance ensues but the extent of it is blushing and a tad of hand holding. Episodes stand alone and aren't needed at all to advance the nonexistent story. It was a chore to get through this but for some reason I did expecting maybe a good finish. The finish was happy but overall the series is extremely forgettable. I should have stopped 1/4 of the way through once I realized it wasn't going anywhere. Not recommended, especially if you're past your middle school (elementary perhaps) years.

Come to think of it this series was a LOT like Ai Yori Aoshi, and I found them both equally uninspiring. Childhood friends, guy is surrounded by girls but bound to one, wild girl who likes drinking and has an inexplicable fang, etc. Love Hina on the other hand drops a big, fat nucular on both of these series.

Being in a mood for something light and fun I picked Mahoraba - Heartful Days. Shiratori, 18 year old children picture book author has just moved into an apartment buiding named Narutakisou. And the apartment is filled with eccentric people. It tells the life of Shiratori among his new neibhours and the sweet Kozue-chan who is the landlord of the aprtment complex. However she has a problem....

The story of Mahoraba is episodic. While the initial episodes have some framework, the series quickly loses the original plot and goes off focussing on the characters instead. While I found this intitialy frustating, I got over this point and in a few episodes, the series became enjoyable once again. The execution of the anime reminded me of Fruits Basket, with the characters taking more importance than the story. Like Fruits Basket, this anime doesnot make any crude references to sex and the likes. Mahoraba is meant for a younger audience, the emotions/characters are designed as to appeal to people in an age group of 15-16 years old.

Almost all the characters of Mahoraba are likeable. With the exception of Kotomi (she stood out a bit) who comes across as too-overprotective, all the characters are dealt nicely. The eccentricites of Haibara, Megumi and Sayoko gives the series a lot of humour. Many people have mentioned that Shiratori is similar to 'the harem lead getting bullied'. While this cannot be denied, his assertiveness in the later episodes made up for his lack of backbone in the earlier episodes. The best character of Mahoraba is obviously Kozue - she sweeps the series off the ground with her sweetness and charm. Everytime she appeared on the screen I somehow coulnot help but smile at her going ''UMM!!!! SUPPAI!!!" Her secret/s (some of them were very cute eg. Natoko) also added to her charm and by the last episode she has taken the place of one of the most sweet characters I've seen in an anime.

However, the main charm of Mahoraba is not it's humor. What made Mahoraba a good anime IMHO was its heartwarming story about a family/friends being together. While this may not come across as the theme of the series initlialy, in the later episodes this is used to give the anime a very pleasant feeling. And it is this pleasantness which would make this series enjoyable to adults as well.

What is the greatest compliment I can give to Mahoraba? It made me smile. It made me feel good from deep inside and by the end I fell in love with the characters. This was the charm of Mahoraba ~ Heartful Days. This is the perfect anime which is analogous to Chicken Soup for the Soul. Go ahead and get this one when you are feeling down - you'll love it.

I must say that i am surprised by this many high reviews!I think this show is way overrated, and i am in a way disappointed by it.I expected high octane comedy with some romance but for me it wasn't none of that.characters were very strange, they are all supposed to be 18 or older but act like they are just a bunch of 13-teen year old, whole story around them is that way, in simple words childish!Comedy is very weak, not many scenes that made me laugh, maybe one or two in whole series. And this is supposed to be comedy?!No romance at all, maybe some "puppy sympathy, i like you" thing, but in general no romance at all.Story is original but boring at most of the time.Best part is animation, nice, very nice i must say.Characters are drawn well and have more or less good voices, expect for Shiratori that is supposed to be 18 but has a voice of a pre puberty child. That was so frustrating! When it comes to enjoyment,to simple put it this way.Its not that bad, but its not either a must see.If you skip it, you wont miss master peace for sure! But if you like this kind of anime, goofy, light comedy than watch it.I recommend it to those that are under 18, if you ask me this is not for older audience.

Ok letsee...episodes 1-3 (or 4) are just FUN to watch, you just sit and watch these episodes and you laugh your heart out...later on it gets a little more serious, but it's still funny, and gives you a warm feeling after each episode.
I liked that show very much, the ending is great! and makes you want to see more but finish the last episode with a smile.
the characters are very loveable, each and everyone of them have a great personality.
(me want the Manga)

I recomend...^_^

Ill add this one to my list of funniest animes.

The animation style is a particular favorite of mine. It has the ability to be comical and include generic anime style gags like the sweat drop, sigh, depression, blush, anger vein on forhead type things. Its syplistic designs are appealing and all characters are very cute looking because of it. Reminds me of Azumanga Daioh style animation.

Sound is something good. I didnt care for the opening or ending, but the BGM is good and so are the voice actors. I got the OST but it didnt have the themes of the occult club president which irritated me.

Story A guy goes and lives in a apartment complex and lives with others. Each character gets their own story and within the anime it builds up until each character has their own episode or episodes that focuses on them. The main story focuses on Shiratori and Kozue. And I was very pleased by the endings. Didnt leave any character in the dark, and finished up nicly.

Charaters are the things that makes this anime memorable. Let me just say I made Sayoko my favorite character from the start. I have never really cared about any veiw that an anime makes. During the end of Somedays Dreamers I was thinking "I Disagree", I didnt like that view at all. During Sayoko's speech she takes the same topic that I saw in Somedays Dreamers and completely says the opposite. I was thinking "YES! YES! thats the character I made my favorite from Episode one! HAHAHA take that views of other animes that disagree" The topic was remarriage by the way. As for the other characters they are all hilarious. The occult club president is my second fav character and she doesnt even get a name, just Bucho(president)
Kozue gets 5 characters as well, it aint just Kozue. The are so many characters and side character I didnt think there would be time for them all, but the fit them in. I loved them all.

Sit back, relax, eat an umeboshi, and watch for a funny anime.

I had my doupts about this series as I've seen a lot of harem series involving a guy with x girls. But this wasn't one of the "which girl is he gonna pick" -series. A warm and light comedy with mild themes and some basic expression comedy. There wasn't a bigger plot going trough the eps, apart from the children book story. The first eps centered on characters followed with few fillers and then the big stories.

Animation was viewable and expecially the backgrounds cought my eye. Too bad the characters had almost always the same clothes, not that it bothered me =)

OP and END were nothing spectacular, but not that bad either. Voice acting was OK, except that Kozue sounded way too mature sometimes... and I don't mean when she turned into Saki.

There wasn't really any grand story, except for mystery behind Kozue's multiple personas. Each ep centered on one or two characters and the rest were fillers. The last eps unweild Asami's, Sayko's and Kozue's past. The "romance"
between Shiratori and Kozue didn't quite develop and it was left to more friendly manner although you could sense something more from the last eps =)...
but like I said warm and light...

As for characters...well some were really good like Sayko and Asami, some quite neutral like Kozue and Shiratori and some irritating like Momono and Tanami. All residents had warm feelings for each other and it left the idea of "nakama" (from One Piece).

Overall Mahoraba did it's job well. You get a few laughs and few more dramatic or emotional scenes. Of course it left the feeling the story isn't really finished, but that's quite common eh?

As a Love Hina fan, I take offense to comparison between Love Hina and Mahoraba. This anime is nothing like Love Hina (character-wise, story-wise, themes, etc). Mahoraba is not a rip off, nor is it a copycat. And because of that, I think this anime deserves a more justified rating from some certain person.

The animation (int Mahoraba of course!)is clean and vibrant. And then there's the crayon animation, which I find really endearing! Character design is soo kawai! Though for some reason, it reminds me of Ai Yori Aoshi.

Sound was alright. No particular feelings about the OP and ED. However, some of the voices of the characters sounded really funny. Other than that, the background music was really good.

Mahoraba, as stated by other reviewers, is an episodic series, except for the last few episodes, I guess. But those last few episodes were quite touching.

Now, to character, value and enjoyment. The characters in Mahoraba are very likable. Though I like the idea in Love Hina where the defects in the character's personality are used to drive the story and humour, Mahoraba's characters are just so innocent that I love them as well. And is Mahoraba worth watching again? My answer is YES!!! While the jokes aren't as wacky in some other animes, they're still enjoyable, PLUS the story is lighthearted.

I've added it to my list of Watch-While-I-Eat animes.

Definitely the best surprise in a while ! Usually, when I start watching an anime, I know what to expect, and I watch it accordingly. Mahoraba was supposed to be just a light hearted comedy - and for the most part it is. But starting from the Asami - Sayoko - Mahiru arc (I hope I got the names right...) around episode 20, things turn out quite differently to reach an astounding ending. It's not even drama, it's just one of the most heart warming ending I've seen.

Simple light-heart everyday-life chibi-style anime.

First off start with chibi style. Most people in the story are 16+ especially Shiratori which is 18 year old but look like 15 years old. There's no old people here in Mahoraba, only cutes people :)

There's no such serious story either. Random stories are place on every character but end up being half-way and we've never seen anything that 'end' or 'solve' the stories still go on for everyone.

Beside all the 'no-plot' 'no-story' Mahoraba offer us a comedy with cute Kozue which have 5 personalities, they didn't really focus on this matter but the ending will show some development between with all the personalities BUT it wasn't a real solution. So.. Why watch this? It's because of the weird people in the house and how our prince getting torment from other people. Will he give up? or will he stay with the princess. While wait on that, watch for comedies and light-heart jokes. It's getting better by the ep. I really laugh at ep.12+ Watch an ep. a night will keep you mood up :)

Mahoraba has been pegged along such anime as Ai Yori Aoshi and Love Hina; to make such an association would be a mistake: this is a light-hearted comedy with the characters being the selling point. Each of them can be tied to a stereotype found in much of anime, but they all distinguish themselves enough as to be memorable. One reviewer said something to the effect that one can't help but smile even during comedy failure. That is true, while I can see this appealing to children (if we can take away some of the more mature themes), this also can be of interest for adults, looking for something cute and fluffy. I question I did have; how old is Sayoko? Other than that, recommended.

Now for something different from this bunch of recent anime, Mahoraba is a light-hearted comedy affair with slight touches of romance.

Despite the fact that the anime looks no more than a harem show, its 'unique' factors are that the romance is concentrated onto one woman and that this particular girl happens to have 5 different personalities. It could be said that its a harem show with just that one girl (if that makes sense ;) )

Mahoraba can be described as a slight mix between many harem shows, Ai Yori Aoshi, Love Hina etc A bit of them were incorporated in this anime, then included its unqiue features. However, despite this fact, Mahoraba dissapoints, the whole show becomes a muddle in some respects, even from the first 1-2 episodes, they had to make some changes into their little story just to get on the right tracks.

Though the idea of a schizo girl is neat and can lead to some entertaining events, not enough comedy was injected into this delightful looking anime, the comedy is good in some parts and its mainly due to the 'kawaii' factor that this show holds host to. Other than that, the show's comedy is usually predictable, uninteresting or just plain cute that will just make you smile no matter how bad the joke was.

The characters play an important role in this type of anime, thoguh the side characters like Tamami and Momono are appreciated to some extent, characters like Johnny and Shiratori's school friends are arguably pointless. The development between the main characters is predictable and though cute, its very under-developed to the point where i couldn't care less if Shiratori and Kozue got together.

Overall, Mahoraba IS enjoyable, its light-hearted and has a neat selling point for some anime fans. Its got comedy value but don't take it too seriously and you should like it, though i really question the whole direction of the anime...

If one word could summarize the anime it has to be "Likable". Like the reviewer below have mentioned, this anime is not harem comedy but rather it is aimed at younger viewers who likes some genuine comedy and light storyline.

This anime should win the award for the most likable cast in all anime. I could not find a single character in this anime that I disliked, and they are all given proper depth to stand on their own feet. From eccentric Tamami to hard working Asami I just found everyone to be so lovable. Characters are the basis of this anime.

From this group of cast come very genuine comedy. This anime doesn't pull any low-blow jokes to have the viewers laughing but creates very normal yet funny life-like situations to keep us entertained. It sure worked for me.

Storyline however drags on a little bit, and perhap the problem generates from its lack of real plot. I thought there were episode especially in the beginning portion and middle portion that really had me sleeping. Toward the end however this anime picks up its plot with more interesting subjects that viewers can feel more about to make up for the lack.

Animation is clean and overflowing with cuteness. Don't expect anything grand though. Animation is just appropriate for cute title like this.

Music I thought was good overall but not really standout. I didn't really like the OP, but ED was an upbeat song. Background music in general didn't really stand out but it was good enough to provide proper mood. That good enough for me.

This is a very likable anime targeting younger viewers inmy opinion, but there are things that grown ups like me (and perhaps you) also can enjoy. Upon finishing the last episode, I could not help but smile at the conclusion of this anime. I'm sure you will smile for this anime too.

Based on 1-22

This isn't a harem comedy, or an action show, or drama, or anything like that. It's a good heartwarming show that is very enjoyable to watch.

The animation is nothing special but it fits the settling perfectly, all the characters are unique which is nice to see compaired to some animes where each character looks nearly the same.

The music in general is quite good, the OP/ED are good but nothing special, the background music fits well with all the scenes should they be laughing or crying.

The story is very episodic, there is a good amount of character development for every character (execpt for the other male in the apartment complex) I love all of the characters and you can't help but to love Kozue and all her transformations.

It's a very enjoyable heartwarming anime, thats a really good show to watch when your just wanting to feel good and enjoy something. I hope this anime doesn't end any time soon ^_^

+Ending again, i mostly think of things that it should have ended this-way, that-way etc for other animes. BUT when watched finish this, it left me wit its memories 'as their life goes on'.

Some may say this anime is waste of time etc, but this anime takes standalone path(not a continue from mahoraba 1) and add some spice to daily life activities.
