Probably in an attempt to cash in on the success of KGNE, this spin off was made. Not only was it sub par, but it was bad enough to polute my fond memories of KGNE. It's an ova that focuses on Akane's side story that runs in parallel to part of the KGNE main storyline. Cast your mind back to the first couple of episodes of KGNE: until the big twist of events at the end of episode 2, KGNE was pretty poor right? Well, even those two episodes pales in comparison to the pile of shite that is Akane Maniax. The first two episodes of KGNE can be best described as trashy romance laced with trashy comedy, Akane Maniax is probably best described as trashy comedy laced with trashy romance. Sounds similar, right? But what makes Akane Maniax so much harder to tolerate is that the comedy element is not only incredibly annoying, but also overwhelmingly in-your-face and impossible to ignore. As for the romance... well, after the overpowering stench of trashy comedy, it's nearly impossible to take the romance seriously.

In three short episodes, Akane Maniax managed to do nothing other than cheapen the original series that it spun off from. If, like me, you loved KGNE, then for God's sake stay away from this grotesque spin-off - you'll thank me for it!

Following on the heels of Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien is the story partially told from Akane's perspective. If it seems odd to have an OVA about a side-character than this would be one of them. Paired with Goda Joji, Akane struggles and ultimately confronts her sad memories that occurred during and after KGNE. Fortunately it's only three episodes, another would have been too much to handle.

So I came across this Ovas today looking around to see what to see next. I didn't think it was an ova for KGNE. I was surprised and I thought it was going to be like a little different from the original story cause I saw it was a Mecha.

I didn't take this anime too seriously in episode 1. It's not an alternative ending in which everything will go back to normal and everyone ends with a happy life. It turns out it's something way different.

The animation was good. I liked it very much. The only thing I didn't like was the mecha portion of the animation. It didn't look right to me. I also didn't like the male character. He seems like a rip off of G gundam. Akane still looks sort of the same. Haruka looks so lovely like she always does.

The sound wasn't very interresting. The opening wasn't as good as I thought it would be and I didn't even bother with the ED. The music in the anime was ok. There were a couple that were sad in the moments of drama of course.

The story isn't that impressive. Like I said it's has little to do with the original KGNE storyline. This anime is based on Akane. How she stopped trusting boys and got scared of changing. I thought I was going to see old characters reunite and talk things through. Sadly, that wasn't the case. Akane is still hurt from what happened 3 years ago. Sadly everyone from the original series is still hurt by it. Who wouldn't after expiriencing that. They tried to add a comic relief into this ova. Of course I'm talking about the new male character. I didn't like this guy at all. He was too annoying in the anime! His fantasies was the reason this anime turned out to be a mecha. This ova is more of a fanservice. I like Akane, and I would love to see something else to the original ending, but this wasn't what I was looking for. The final episode shows that this was all a therapy seasion for Akane. It seems there was a love triangle with Takayuki and he just happens to be in the middle of this triangle.

There's some new characters that were introduce in only 3 episode. Even though it was short, there was some character development on Akane in my part. Other than that you can't tell if anyone else did some growth. It's kinda impossible to tell that from only making 3 episodes in my opinion.

I personaly didn't enjoy this anime very much. Although you get to see some of the old characters which brought back some of the emotions from KGNE. I still think the original story ended too tragic. I thought this ova was going to give me some happyness from the orignal story, but it didn't. After all the title of the anime is called Akane Maniax. lol

Like many people before me, here's a warning: Don't watch it if you haven't watch KGNE. It will just be a waste of your time. Plus it will ruin the whole KGNE Story.

This OVA is about Akane and how she deals with her memories of Takayuki after the end of the KGNE story. She is apparently still distressed and does not trust boys. Enter Goda, a completely stubborn and egocentric transfer student who immediately falls in love with Akane. This story tells their developing so called relationship.

There is a lot of parody between Goda and Takayuki from KGNE. The anime also seems to randomly throw in mechs, with Goda (and Takayuki) as pilots. Goda's clothing and the fact that he pilots a mech parodies G Gundam's Domon Kasshu.

Overall this is a fun watch, but I probably won't watch it again. However, do not expect the same drama as that in KGNE.

This is the sequal for Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien. This OVA is different from the actual series because it has humor, so it does not make the drama super seriouse. However, it also shows a "hidden" third person perspective in this triangular love. This is really realistic, since I am sure this has happened to someone in realy file. The hidden feelings that you are afraid of revealing, but at the same time the regret you get for not revealing those feeling. You will always wonder what if.... until someone comes with a pure heart to show you the way... =) I do recommend you to watch this OVA, since is short and gives your life an extra spicy by addint some drama.

I have seen KGNE, and I can say that this is a horrible anime. Its worse than Gekiganger 3 an insert story from Martian Successor Nadesico. Firstly its exactly like gekiganger but with better graphics and stupider story line.

If you liked KGNE, you'll like this. If you hated KGNE, staaaaaaaay awaaaaaaaay. If you are neither, then this is a waste of your time. And to sum up all 3 episodes in 5 words: Nothing happens; Akane's therapy session.

Basically, the whole reason this OVA was produced is to wrap things up for Akane, who is still upset with the drama that happened three years ago. Bring in the happy-go-lucky guy and boom! she gets cured of her depression.

And to keep this entertaining, enter Goda, a baseball delinquent who proposes to Akane at first site. His antics are the usual craziness and jinxing of trying to win Akane's heart to no avail. While there are funny moments and some good embarressing scenes (as in, you must pause and take your breath), everything he does is so profoundly repeated throughout the genre that it gets boring and mundane. And his imaginations scenes were the most dragged out and boring.

Fanservice here is sparse but inducing, especially if you're a fan of Akane (in which is more the reason to watch this OVA - and yes, I'm a fan of Akane). Unfortunately, there is no spark since this is a therapy session. I'll stick with the extras in KGNE.

And the best part of the whole thing are the final 3 minutes of the last episode. Crazy stuff is rewarded to those who went through all 8X minutes. ;P

After seeing Rumbling Hearts, I admit I expected a lot from Akane Maniax. Even so, even if I had not had any expectations, I would of disliked this series. Stand-alone this series is no good either. I was excited when I heard about the OVA. Aside from Haruka, Akane was my favourite character. It also helped greatly that I thought the name for the OVA sounded very clever. If you REALLY loved Rumbling Hearts, I would watch this series to judge so that you can judge it for yourself. This seems to be a love or hate series. If you haven’t seen Rumbling Hearts, I’d personally advise you to stay away from it.

This 3 Side-track Episode to the Anime, Kimi ga Nozomu Eien...

This anime is Very Light-Hearted & has a Lot Of Enjoyable Comedy. It does not contain as much Emotions as KgNE, but it is certainly an Interesting Sequel to that Emotional Anime.

I Think the Animation was Really Good!!! The Opening theme had CooL Graphics, The Mechas were Totally CooL!!! Everything Was so Smooth, I would have thought this Anime was made This year... But it's made in 2004, right? Animenfo says so...

The Sounds were good. I have nothing to complain about the music. The Seiyuus did a good job too.

Story, I think this Story was quite Okay. An Optimistic Dumb Baseballer comes into Akane's school, & Professes his Love the very first time they met. It is very light-hearted. & I think Joji is very Imaginitive. Imagining of Mechas, & Day dreaming all day. If he was real, or if I was in Akane's Situation, I would be Really annoyed by him, & would Slap him Hard.

Akane revealed slightly more of her character in these 3 episodes with the help of Never-in-Reality Idiot Joji.

I enjoyed Akane Maniax quite a bit. Joji's optimistism and idiocity trying to win Akane's heart. Imagining about Mechas & bringing the 3 main characters in the previous anime as the Bad guys. The bad guys are basically Takayuki, Mitsuki, & Haruka with their Hair Dyed a Different Colour. The Previews of the next Episode with chibi characters from KgNE were funny... =)

If you have watched Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien & Thought it was good or okay, I don't think there's any harm watching this anime. =)

Overall a very sweet sidetrack from the bitterly boring KGNE. I thought that Akane Maniax was much better, and it's mainly because of the characters.

Akane Maniax is a love story happening in school, which is a common theme amidst anime, but I felt that the hope Goda Joji felt in his heart and the devotion he had towards Akane was very well expressed through his abundant closet of facial expressions! Being a lovable and silly guy, he could well be a fan favorite if only he didn't dream of robots so much.

Characterization was done through silliness, but there were also serious times when Akane sat down with Goda Joji for sentimental talks. Those were moments in Akane Maniax that I valued for the heartfelt value and convincing emotional distress of the characters.

The ending of Akane Maniax was slightly disappointing, though, as it put the wrong image on Goda Joji. Watching it will help you see what I mean, but his image was kind of 'reversed' towards the end.

Though short, Akane Maniax has captured many entertaining elements of romance anime that KGNE could not. Unlike its more dramatic counterpart, it's emotional and tearful but also sweet to a degree that the characters are actually likeable for a change.

And how could I forget the humor? Goda Joji's coming into the picture seemed to have turned Akane's life of misery upside down, and he was the one who made her get over her past and what happened to her sister in KGNE. Though Goda Joji seemed to be one heck of an annoying guy, his intentions were pure at heart and I had a feeling that he only wanted to be love (as innocent as that sounds).

Take away the exaggerated and over-common themes in KGNE and you have the lighthearted Akane Maniax, which is not completely without pressure points of sadness. Even if you didn't enjoy KGNE (like me), anyone will be able to live through this 3-episode long OVA so it's worth a shot.

I don't like Akane. I never liked Akane. I thought she was a stuck-up snot-nosed brat who should've just left her sisters affairs alone. So back in 2004, when I read that there would be a sequal to one of my favourites, KGNE, I was estatic. However, as soon as I read it was entitled "Akane Maniax", my heart died. I thought to myself "I AM NOT AN AKANE MANIAC! Who wants to see a story about HER?", and then decided I would avoid it at all costs.

But you know, I REALLY love KGNE. And after about two years of not seeing it, I kinda missed it. And hey, maybe Akane wasn't that bad...after all, I watched KGNE two years ago, and maybe I could put up with her now...and I could. Akane has grown a little bit, and now she's kind of mature. I liked how she was affected by the events in KGNE even though they didn't directly involve her. I thought it really showed her devotion to her sister, and her tenderness. As well, I think I forgot that Akane ((had such a bond with the male character from KGNE)), so at the end of episode two I was like "WHY is she saying that...?". In any case, while Akane wasn't as annoying as I thought, they HAD to add in a schiziotypal (delusional) male student, Gouda, and make him go into Crazy-Daydream-Gundam-mode for 8 minutes every episode. This kid made Yusuke from Maison Ikkoku look normal with his daydreams. I hated him, but Akane needed him to get over her past. So while I thought episode 1 sucked REALLY REALLY hard, since it was just SO over-the-top obvious and boring, the next two are not as bad. They bring in a real EMOTIONAL story, involving Akane's feelings, and it's sweet...in a creepy sort of way, since it involves Gouda...

Not to mention episode 2 is when the KGNE characters start to show up. When Haruka appeared on the screen, I started convulsing in sobs (I am serious). I had no idea I was still so affected by KGNE. I was so angry and started screaming "THIS ANIME ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH TO BRING IN KIMI GA REFERENCES!!!" And in a way, it's not. It tries to hard to be too many things - romance, comedy, gundam, school anime - and only barely suceeds at the romance. But the again, most anything compared to KGNE will suck hard. But as a sequal, Akane Maniax is not THAT bad. I mean, it could have given us a cheesy ending where everyone makes up and is happy forever, and that would have brought down the ending of the original greatly. By making it only vaguely connected, it didn't taint the original, and greatly added to Akane's personality, in that way making the orginal better. And this connects into Muv Luv, so I guess I'm looking forward to that too.

BTW DO NOT WATCH THIS IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN KIMI GA NOZOMU EIEN!!! If you do, you WILL be ruined of the entire plot, since Akane gives it away in a speech in episode 3. Just warning you...

Spin-off from KGNE, with Akane as the main character. The animation is clean cut and nicely done. But I felt that Gouda was drawn in a rather 'Marvel comics' sense.

The story take place after KGNE, with Akane trying to get over the events that took place then. Along the way comes Gouda a transfer student who likes her, and his never say die attitude inspires her to become more positive. I'll say that story would have been better, had it not focused so much on Gouda's random mecha fetishes.

He was mostly mumbling to himself and fantasising, a straight out of the mental institute kindda guy. Overall, quite an irritating character. Nonetheless, he plays a significant role in livening things up and changing Akane's perspective for the better.

Music is pretty good for the OP and ED. The anime brings back abit of KGNE, the ending doesn't disappoint at least.(No spoilers here)

Overall, not much of a rewatch value, but it's ok to watch and find out what happens.

I strongly disagree with some of the other reviews labeling this anime to be pretty much complete trash compared to KimiNozo. Yes, some parts of it is totally outlandish and the actual emotional and thus good parts could have been lengthened. Yet it nonetheless is a very good sequel. I was very very surprised about the quality of this anime since I read some pretty bad reviews of it. First of all, the anime's focus is on Akane and her emotional development and how she is trying to cope with the aftermath of KimiNozo. Goda is just this sidekick who in the end contributes to Akane and her emotional healing. While I do agree that Goda takes away a signficant part of the emotional turmoil we so enjoyed from KimiNozo, this anime still has alot. Can't go too deep into it without spoiling it however there is a surprising amount of the KimiNozo storyline. Most of it is indirectly told through Akane's POV but still very insightful. For example we see Akane's love for Takayuki. The ending is great as well. Iv always been amazed at how well KimiNozo wrapped everything up. This anime's ending is equally complete (well, minus the Goda part).

I've read somewhere "You want to waste your opinion after KgNE? Then wahtch Akane Maniax". I can agree with this sentence. After KgNE related anime you could expect more. Much more. Why did they release whis for anyway?

Not that I hate this anime, but it wasn't very good. Maybe someone who likes a good comedy with an ultimate idiot instead of a real storyline would enjoy it. Not me though.

This isn't the typical OVA you'dd expect from KGNE, but it isn't really bad. It has some potential, but doesn't use much of it. It is Comedy, which I think, is done wrong. It just should have been Drama, and it misses out, so I'm not very happy with the story and stuff.
Still a funny OVA, nothing more, nothing less.
If you are looking for a serieus Drama OVA, don't watch this one. You'll be disappointed.
Actually, this is one of the worst OVA's an anime like KGNE could have...

I liked this little OVA alot. As it is an OVA, it doesn't have to be just like the original series KGNE. In fact, having a comedical, less serious OVA would be good since KGNE was so serious and dramatical. To redo all the seriousness into 3 episodes would be shockingly bad, so this comedy was the best way to go about tying the loose ends.

For most people, KGNE is seen as remarkable effort at tieing together an extremely life like situation, and developing the characters true to the situation. Once I heard that a spinoff was to be made, myself (like most) were eagarly anticipated for a mini-installment. So how does it fair.

Seeing how no one else has Actually finished this anime, i guess ill post the review.

OK Animation style is still Clean, and the Lines are bold and crisp. Sound is Still just as good as KGNE and the OP and ED are still Ok. Story wise....This is horrible. Some of it is actually ok though. Just think like this, any time Jouji is talking, the story will be completely random and stupid. If Akane is talking then toy might find something of worth in watching it. (probably why i gave it a 5) The ending is funny however and it leads you on to think that this series will be longer than 3 Eps. Characters are pretty much portrayed as they were in Muv Luv(the Hgame that most of this is based on)and they are all still largely *ahem* proportioned as well. This is one of the stupidiest animes ive ever watched in my life, but it was an enjoyable stupid(if that makes sence) Overall, if you love akane; you'll watch this. If you love dumb random animes; you should look into this. And if your expecting a kool(yes i used a K) continuation to a great series, then you shouldnt even bother watching this.

Well here it is! The OVA spin-off of the much loved Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien. Starring none other than the adorable Suzumiya Akane in the main role. That alone should make this series great however its a choice made by the writers which takes away from the series.

Ok, to be honest if you loved Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien then you will probably hate this. While it retains the high standerds of animation and sound set by KGNE it chooses to get rid of any other traits from the show. Gone is the original storyline and serious tone. This series have a much more simple and comedic feel to it (thanks to the arrival of Akane's new love interest Goda Joji).

While some of the more crazy scenes do work most of the time you just wonder why they couldn't have made the series more serious. You are given little insights into how certain characters are post-KGNE (such as Haruka and Akane) and while this is great to watch there is only a small ammount as most of the episodes are taken up by crazy moments from Joji.

This OVA is a great piece of animation on its own. However, when it is compared to the show it spun-off from it really takes away from it.

Plus did anyone else notice how Akane's form tutor Kozuki Yuko dresses like a prostitute?...
