| What a great movie! The only thing I did not like is the downer ending, but otherwise this FMA-original closer tells a horrifying story using powerful post-WWI allusions while staying true to the fictional sciences and themes of equivalent exchange.
Even with a new series of FMA sticking true to the manga being produced, I still love the direction the director took with the original. It had great storytelling, drama, action, and themes that could rival classic literature, which is why FMA is extremely popular and highly rated everywhere. "The Conqueror of Shamballa" brings a closer to this version of the story, telling a haunting tale taking place in the middle of our war-torn world while treating the fans to cameos of almost everyone that did not bother me at all (I think fanservice for the hell of it is lame, but here they use some characters, like Hughes and Noah [Rose], in a significant way). Though I often do not like one-shot events, like here they had one-day invaders whom killed thousands of innocent civilians, it fit well with the allusion to WWI, which was a lot worse than what you will see here. The sadness of war affected everyone, including Ed and Roy Mustang, which is another theme I liked being shown. The separate entities of the two Al's was also a conflict Ed had to get over. Overall the storytelling of the themes was what I enjoyed most about the movie.
While I believe the overall plot was well written, I know that fans will be and are disappointed by this movie. The characters are taken in different directions, and some of their fates are simply unwanted. Mustang had a sad dopey face for most of the beginning, but at war's notice, he's back on duty without much development. Hohenheim (I don't like that middle h...) was introduced stuck to a cross and plays a minor role in the movie. I especially did not like the ending, even if it made the most sense as the two brothers matured over time and living in different worlds. (I do hope Winry gets some loving in the new faithful anime adaption!)
I would say that if you are a fan of the original series' direction, this is a welcome closer to that universe. This movie has a great story pulled down by unwanted fates of the characters we love, but you don't have to let it get in the way if you're going to watch FMA: Brotherhood anyways.

| Giving this movie anything under an "8" is a little harsh unless you wern't an FMA fan to begin with. If you have never watched the anime (52 episodes) this movie will make no sense to you. In all, this movie brought its fans a little closure that they desired after the anime series ended. As other reviews noted, the movie does leave some lingering questions on certain concepts and ideas. But those flaws are minor and should not hinder the overall enjoyment of this great movie. Recommended (only if you have watched the anime series).

| FMA The movie is worthy conclusion to the TV show, and while not perfect, is a must watch for fans of the show; newcomers, stay away!
At and the end of the TV series, Al regained his physical body, but had the memories of all his adventures with his brother erased till the day they tried to revive his mom; Ed was taken to "the other side" as equivalent exchange for saving Al's life; the other side is actually post WWI Europe.
Both lived their lives for 2 years trying to adapt to their new lives, but always thinking about how to reunite with each other....now, it may happen; a starnge cult seeks "Shamballa" a mystical world in another dimension (Ed's world) and they want to conquer it to ensure their reign in both world's and the Elric brothers have to stop them.
The movie's mayor merits reside in closing up a lot of the questions left unanswered by the series, and while the plot and new mayor characters are good, they have back seat priority in comparision to the show's mysteries; the movie as a whole is very enjoyable, but I resent two things; first, too much time is spent in the "real world" and i would've liked more of it t take place in the world of alchemy; and second, I didn't totally like the ending for some reason...it was good but there was something missing.
The animation is good, but i've seen better animated motion pictures, though there are some pretty neat scenes, the music is similar to the series, but it's very good.
In the end, it's a must to see if you finished the TV show, and it's enjoyable, though not exactly all I wanted to see.

| Coming into a film, its only natural to have certain expectations. In this case, I had every reason to expect that it would be good, after all, the series is good, and this promised to be the conclusion to the series, so there wasn't any chance it would be unfulfilling or inconclusive, right? Sadly, I was wrong on both counts. This movie is not good, it is a huge dissapointment, one in which asks more questions than it answers.

| Fullmetal Alchemist: Conqueror of Shambala ties up all the loose ends of the series.....and then unties them again.
The animation was good, better than even the series. Fluid action scenes and and good use of color characterize the series and this movie itself.
The sound, as to be expected of FMA, was good, though some of the more familiar songs from the series are missing. The voice actors performed well, and the background noises were all realistic sounding.
The story was great for the first 3/4s of the movie, until Ed seperates the wing from the plane, and then it goes downhill. Just when you think all the loose ends will be tied up from the series, the movie takes a complete u-turn and leaves you with another hanging ending. Also, much of the background of the Thule Society (such as, how did they capture the "great snake" in the first place?) and their motivations goes unexplained or is extremely simplified.
The characters were ok; the bizarro-Hughes, bizarro-Alphonse, and bizzaro-Rose, and bizarro-Fuhrer weren't fleshed out very well, and it was hard to feel much for them (especially Hughes, who was a bit overused). However, Ed, Al, and Wrath were all well done, especially Wrath.
If you loved FMA, you will probably want to watch this movie; although it doesn't replicate exactly the feel of the series, it comes pretty close, and it satisfies some of the need for more FMA. I can only hope there will be another sequel to this movie soon.

| Not much to say about this. It continues where the series left off and essentially finishes off the story.
I'm disappointed at the end to not have seen more explanation over the whole alchemy and gates and stuff, as I still don't fully understand them. I have my suspicions as to whether the producers of the anime even have a clear idea themselves as it deviated from the ideas of the original manga.
So how does this differ from the series? Well, presentation wise, although the animation style is unchanged, it's more polished in general, and the colours seems richer. The movie has been given a new set of orchestral BGM, also of similar style to that of the series. The new BGM is decent enough, however one qualm i have with the it is: the theme that, for me, encapsulated much of the feel of FMA, "Brothers", is missing... or at least I don't remember hearing it. To omitt the track that was at the heart and soul of the original series was a grave error imho. Aside from presentation, the setting for the story is also different. Ed's half of the adventure is set in "our" world, where alchemy is rarely seen.
Even though overall everything about the movie had the same feel as the original series, I didn't feel the same thrill as I did watching the series... perhaps the lack of alchemy in this new world takes off the edge off the excitement just a bit (this does highlight the importance and strength of the fantasy element in the original series). But to be perfectly honest, it would have been a tall order for any movie length anime to recreate the awesome feel of that amazing series. So inspite of this not being nearly as exciting as the series, it's a more than adequate ending to conclude the saga. This followup is a must if you liked the series.

| I liked this movie while I was watching it, but the ending left me asking "why"? It really just doesn't make any sense. From the time that Ed shears the wing off the plane, I really can't understand the motivation for anything. Was it really necissary to do both sides? This movie has been part of the plan, for at the latest slightly after they began to diverge from the manga, but the only reason I can see them ending it the way that they did, was to put some finality on the series. I honestly think that 95% of the fans will be dissapointed, but since this the 13th episode of the last season you really can't skip it either.
Although I am very disappointed by the way they finished the movie I have to say I enjoyed the first 90 to 95 minuites, and although some of the new characters aren't that great, it was fun to revisit all the people from the series, although I felt that Huges was a little abused. The new villian seems pointlessly evil, but be that as it may be I would say overall the movie is like a fun ride to the dentists office: great until you hit the final destination.
I strongly recommend that you don't watch this if you haven't seen the series. It's really intended as a last episode. That's why they made it a 51 episode long show (13 episodes/season*4 seasons = 52 - 1(for the movies)= fma length. So your not only spoiling the show for yourself, your totally losing the context of the movie.

| this movie is a joke. for every amazing episode the story team came up with after they had caught up with the manga, i was really expecting something good. instead they released a movie that was just plain awful.
there was so little development for bizarro-alphonse and bizarro-rose (noa) that i really didn't care what happened to them at all. the villain had absolutely zero personality and acted with every stereotypical intention you could come up with "they scare me, i hate them, i want to take over the world HAHAHAHAHAHHA". and then there was the hohenheim and envy tie-in. those of you who have seen it should know what i'm talking about when i say that he (hohenheim) was in no position to hold casual conversation with ed when they met up. it wound up being hilarious instead.
don't watch this movie. read the manga.

| The television series ended with a cliff-hanger that I rather appreciated; there was enough open-endedness that a sequel will be more than justified yet at the same time, the ending could have been left alone. Considering this, then, I’ve avoided this Fullmetal Alchemist movie because I am fond of the original conclusion and a movie could only blemish what I deem to be an excellent ending. However, this movie holds a few surprises; not only does it not suck, but the additional ending maintains that certain bittersweet quality while presenting a solidified conclusion.
….the opening scene, leaving the audience with a gazillion questions, is discouraging. Fortunately, these questions are somewhat answered in the following scene by an older Edward. The core of the story-the reunion between Ed and Al- is mixed with ethnocentric ideals and figures: fear of human differences, Nazis, and the Thule Society. Although these things are an interesting incentive to propel the story, they are not wholly necessary. The occasional moments when the movie chooses to prattle on about “the war” and Hitler are boring; fortunately, this doesn’t happen much and most of the 100 minutes are dedicated to fluid fight scenes (the animation is more detailed than that of the series) and the “gates” between the two parallel worlds. It is worth noting that this movie is also much more violent than the series; one scene, in particular, had me wincing and feeling very sorry for the character that endures what must have been quite painful. Oh well, better him than me.
The characters, as to be expected, are familiar, and there are no huge surprises. Ed has changed little in two years- he’s still a cocky brat; he’s just grown a little taller. Al, however, is much changed. In the television series, he was just some faceless kid with an aggravating voice; he was much pretty used as an empty foil for Ed’s character. Here he’s improved, but I can’t say it’s for the better. Not only does his character design greatly resemble that of his older brother, but so does his personality. It’s fortunate that Al has at least two scenes that illustrate the key differences between the two or else we may as well have two Eds running around. There are three new characters; one is reminiscent of Al (and pretty useless), the other is reminiscent of Rose (also useless), and the other is a greedy villain by the name of Dr. Eckenhart (also useless but at least she had a probable reason for wanting to “destroy the world ha ha ha ha!"). Most characters (even ones that, uh, ceased to exist by the series end) make cameo appearances, some only for a few seconds. When it comes right down to it, though, this movie is worth watching, even if you liked the series’ ending.

| This continues exactly where the series had ended. This movie presents a much darker world then what we had been exposed to in the series.
Al and Ed have been seperated,
they vowed to one day reunite, will that be a possibility? What are the underlying factors? An epic end to this popular series,
you wont regret checking this out.

| Fullmetal Alchemist The Movie is a movie which carries on the story straight after the Fullmetal Alchemist series, which in my opinion should have been made into the second series of Fullmetal Alchemist instead of a movie.
There are slight improvements in the animation of the movie compared to the original series, which should be expected as the movie was made two years after the release of the series.
The theme songs were still equally poor compared with the series in my opinion, but the voice acting remained equally good.
The storyline had, in my opinion, the potential of becoming a second Fullmetal Alchemist series. A 2.5 hour long movie is just insufficient to explain the facts and develop the characters anywhere near to the same extent as the series did. There was also a lack of humour in the movie, most likely due to the increased pace due to the shortage of time in the movie.
There is a distinct lack of character development in the movie. Although most of the characters look and are named identical to the characters introduced in the series, their history and background were totally different (watch the movie and you will understand). By turning this into a second Fullmetal Alchemist series would have prevented this issue.
Despite what I have written above, this is a must see for anyone who enjoyed the series. It might fall short of your expectations, but missing it would most likely be much worse.
I enjoyed Fullmetal Alchemist The Movie mainly because I loved the series. The ratings I gave this movie would drop significantly if I were to ignore the series and view this as an independent movie (which I'm certain I'm not supposed to do). Nevertheless, I would no doubt have enjoyed it much more if it were a second Fullmetal Alchemist series.

| Alright, this review is gonna be a little watered down in comparison to my other reviews, mostly because as usual AnimeNFO logged me out yet again in the middle of writing a nice long one!
ANyways... Full Metal Alchemist the Movie was like the "happy end" to the series. I personally didn't have any problem with the series ending at all, i think that a sadder ending can occasionally make an anime stand out from the rest. But this was to appease the fans and all of those people that need those feel-good ending's to finish things off. I think this one did that.
The story was decent, more so than a normal series-movie. This was also probably due to continuation where the series left off. I thought it was at least enjoyable, how the german army tries to make a stake into shambala to acquire a special power...sounds just like the nazis in indiana jones.
There was a little bit of new character development, at least on the end of the new characters introduced here (and wrath, the homocuous grows a bit too). Everyone else seems to be just thrown in at some point, or seem to lack importance.
Overall, the animation was as good to be expected as a jump from the series (though still lacking in representative imagery) and the sound had nothing wrong with it. This is a decent movie to see especially if you were a fan of the show, as it blows most popular series-movies out of the water. Hajime no Ippo's Movie was still the best in my opinion ;)

| I do not know how to put this. However, after finishing the movie I had a mixed feeling and some questions of "why". Not going to go into details since that might ruin it for some of you.
Animations - The animations were superb. It was like watching the casual series of FMA yet with more details. I can't even explain how that work. Anywho, it is good. Edward is taller now!!
Sound - There weren't many music to actually comment on. Nevertheless, the voice actors from the FMA series are still here. As they were good in the series, you can expect the same work from them in the movie.
Story - I found the story lacking. The movie picks up after the end of FMA where Edward is transported to 1921 Germany. However, some of the events in his current world felt random and out of place. For example the woman who knows of the world Edward came from and ways of openning the gate. It did not explain why she had such a grudge against Edward's world so much besides the simple reasoning of her hating how grand it is.
Characters - I also found this area lacking. We know that Edward if transported to a new world. However, he still act the way he did in the FMA series. Also his relationship w/ Winry does not progress even after he returns to help the situation. I would have prefer to see some romance or in depth view of their feelings for eachother rather than guessing basing of their facial expressions and simple short speeches.
I enjoyed the anime for what it is. However, I found that there could have been some improvements in some areas of the story and character-to-character development and relationships. Also I was not a fan of the ending. It felt vagued. Nevertheless, the movie was enjoyable and a must watch for FMA fans. Those who haven't will and proably be very confused.

| I watched this movie the day after I saw the end of the series. The main value of the movie, I think, is that it ties up some of the outstanding issues present at the end of the series in a fairly interesting way.
The events in the movie are based on Nazi mysticism. Based on my research, the movie appears to be fairly truthful; for example, the Thule society, and by extension some of the Nazi party really believed in a place called Shambala, which was supposed to be the capital of the mythical Hyperborean empire.
The way that the movie ties these real world events into the FMA storyline is kind of interesting, however I'm not sure if it really flows that well. Additionally, having seen the movie, I now realize that certain events that occurred toward the end of the series were used as convenient plot devices to set up for the movie(example: Envy turning into a serpent).
I also didn't particularly like the ending of the movie. It wasn't horrible, but it didn't really fit.
In spite of all that, this movie is pretty much necessary if you've seen the series and want some kind of closure.

| Finally, a sequel to one of the best anime series of 2003, and for me, one of my favorite series of all time. So when I heard there was going to be a movie coming out for it, of course I jumped for joy! But did it live up to the hype it receive? Well, yes and no. While FMA the movie has it strong points, it also has quite a few weak points as well. However, overall, the strong points overshadowed the weaker parts of the movie.

| The direct sequel to the series. Finally.
Visuals:
I`ve got to say, the visuals in the movie are excellent. They have suitably taken a step up from the series, and are presented in a more polished manner. The fluidity of animation is awesome, and there are some scenes of epic grandeur where the action heats up. The style is familiar and the 3D work is superb. So what are the flaws? There are two minor issues: for starters, the cinematic feel expected from a movie was not there for me as much as it perhaps should have been. It still felt like I was watching a long episode of the series at times. The other issue is the colour saturation - a lot of the movie seemed very grey-toned, with not as much vibrancy in the colours. Overall however, the visuals are a treat.
Sound:
The sound was another aspect that was suitably of high quality following the series. A lot of the musical scores were variations from the series (a good thing), and the voice acting once again did not disappoint. I had a minor issue with some of the sound editing however, where at times when I`d expect a lot of background sound effects, there was oddly quiet instead - presumably so that the characters could commuicate with the viewer`s full attention - but I found it very noticable to the point of distraction.
Story:
The most controversial aspect of the movie - the story. To be honest, I had no idea WHAT to expect from the movie. After watching the series - which had a tremendously intriguing plot - the movie seems about average (5/10 is half way to the maximum - so in this case `average`). Understandably, the depth of the series was never going to be replicated into the movie, but my main gripe with the movie is that the plot which it chooses just doesn`t seem to be well established during the course of the movie, with a lack of explanation surrounding the necessary details. For one thing I was confused as to why Ed couldn`t use alchemy in `our` world when others, it seemed, could. Too much of the story feels rushed even though the general premise of the events are extremely good and would have been more fun to watch if they had been expanded. The ending of the movie is another issue I have with it - just when I thought the movie would rid me of that `incomplete` feeling left by the end of the series, I now once again feel the plot was `incomplete` after the movie. And to add insult to injury, the story had frustrating plot holes, especially in the closing scenes. HOWEVER, I was impressed at some of the shockingly dark scenes which cropped up unexpectedly during the course of the movie, and they reminded me of the maturer themes that the series had built upon.
Characters:
The characters do not present themselves as strongly as they did in the series. This is probably to be expected, given the duration of the movie, but it still feels too noticable. The majority of the cast from the series only appear in the movie for the briefest amount of time, and some only for one or two seconds. However, I see this as a good thing since it was too unrealistic to think that the whole of the original cast could adaquately be given screen time. Cameos of the non-living members of the series appear as random faces of the people in the non-alchemist world, and I found it pleasant enough to spot them. Whilst the remaining living characters of the series are essentially their same familiar selves, some of their relationships appear a bit too toned down. The film takes place 2 years after the series ended, and some of the characters have not seen each other for that whole time period; yet when they reunite it feels like a bit of an anticlimax.
Value
The replay value of the movie goes hand in hand with the series - I would simply watch it over again the next time I went through the series. It seems to be the logical thing to do, as the movie starts where the series ends.
Enjoyment:
Whilst not quite the sequel I was hoping for, the movie still provides that magic and dark intrigue which the series began. Some of the action sequences are truly breathtaking to behold, and the movie moves along at a good pace. I was disappointed with the conclusion of the movie however, and would be the first in line to watch a sequel if ever it was made. Here`s hoping so.

| Fullmetal Alchemist the movie ties up all the loose ends at the end of the series, and I welcomed this with open arms. We finally find out what happens to Edward, and a little bit after what happened in the Underground City (kind of).
As a movie, Full Metal Alchemist (shambala) is pretty decent. Animation could have been a little better and sophisticated but the music is very good all throughout.
There were a few awkward parts in this movie's execution that will be overlooked by FMA fans. The story is kind of average... and most of it relies on a lot of action scenes. They tried to do the whole good guy bad guy formula by putting in this Eckstheart woman who really does nothing in this movie except kind of move Edward closer to deciding what to do with his life.
The story doesn't really have a clear and defined end goal. Despite the action nature of this movie, I really liked this characteristic because it felt like i was following Edward's life without being clouded by higher impending goals.
As someone who enjoys FMA, I thought this movie was great. It is not perfect, but it was thoroughly entertaining from start to end. There were a lot of funny things that happened especially with the reappearances of several characters and on the whole this is definitely worth watching for conclusion to the series.
