Meine Liebe could have been a powerful piece about war, political unrest, class division, and the coming of age of young nobles set to lead their country into the future. Instead, it’s a shallow story about the pseudo-shounen-ai adventures of five pretty privileged boys. If you are into lengthy conversations, languorous looks, and constant male bonding, then this may be the show for you. Personally, I thought that they wasted a perfectly good setting.

The first thing that comes to mind after watching this anime are a few old fashioned sayings:
All that Glistens is not gold and You can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear!! Plus I made one up of my own - Pretty Boys don't always an anime make *lol*

This was the most boring, mind numbing anime I have ever watched. It boasts a cast of pasty-faced supposed bishounen, the most insipid drivel based dialogue imagineable, a poor excuse for a storyline and more cheese than.......well, a place that sells cheese *lol*

Sometimes hinting at being shounen-ai isn't enough! Either give the viewer something to get their teeth into (straight or gay romance of some description would have gone down a treat!), or don't bother in the first place!

Overall this lacked in every way conceiveable. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone unless you don't mind listening to a load of undead people spewing on about rubbish from beginning to end!

Meine Liebe is just your typical almost-but-not-quite shounen ai premise plastered onto a unique setting with some sort of weakly constructed problem and sold to millions of drooling fangirls. All I could think about when I watched this is a bunch of sweaty fangirls squealing exultantly whenever Orpheus would touch Camus's cheek, or Ludwig whispered something rather ambiguous to Naoji, or whenever the headmaster came on screen. Look at his hair, who is he fooling? With the power of squeaky yaoi sluts on their side, the developers needed only minimal effort on every other front, and thus Meine Liebe was completed.

This series attempts to pass itself off as a subtle one, but it's really about as subtle as a brick. You know, one of those animes with the incredibly covert plots that only crop up until the last two episodes? Yeah. In the meantime, the characters discuss the episodic plots or each other for about 20 minutes, something mildly exciting happens and then the ending theme kicks in. I think Meine Liebe could have been really good, even excellent, if the writers had actually used the dialogue to go somewhere. Instead, these five students of Rosenstolz do absolutely nothing but talk about each other all episode long. Seriously, are they women? All the girls I know don't gossip this much. Oh yeah, and at least once or twice an episode, two of the characters have a gloriously over-the-top romantic interlude with each other. They're heartfelt scenes complete with fountains, cheek-touching and lots of string music. Subtle? Dream on. As my good friend put it while watching: "Anne Rice was more subtle!"

And it wouldn't be so bad if the plots brought to us each episode actually made sense. Let's take one towards the middle of the series, for instance. A transfer student, who happens to be possessed of the elusive female gender, comes to Rosenstolz and proves herself OUTSPOKEN and POLITICAL. Turns out that she's getting the students of the academy to rally for -- check this out guys -- the women's right to vote! Sure it's a cover to incite discontent in the academy, but I still find it hilarious. Anyway, things must be done about this, because a woman with power in a shounen-ai series spells bad news. The characters talk about it amongst themselves for a while, watching the pandemonium unfold and discussing quietly. Ludwig does something tricky and then whines at her for a few minutes, and she eventually leaves the school, her goal unfulfilled. Episode over. The viewer is left thinking, "what in God's name did I just watch?" and then bursts into laughter.

Worst of all is that, like most anime in the BL (boys love) grouping, the characters are tailored specifically to fit the five personalities that a fangirl would most enjoy. Prevalent in anime such as Kaikan Phrase and Sotsugyo M, I have deemed this grouping the Manservice Pentagon of Death. It consists of the stoic boy (Ludwig), pretty boy (Camus), generic boy (Orpheus), happy-go-lucky boy (Ed), and studly boy (Naoji). If none of these fellows do it for you then there are also unimportant side characters like Sir Isaac who have 'unconventional' but still boring personalities. Meine Leibe just gets more and more SUBTLE, doesn't it! With such uninteresting, one-dimensional characters, listening to the rumors they spread about each other is almost as boring as watching them actually do it. The country's embroiled in a freaking war and all they can do is ruminate about Ludwig's fiance? Eventually I just wished that an airship would run into the academy and for all the characters to blow up into a million pieces.

I have absolutely no doubts that Meine Liebe was catered to a very specific demographic. Sure, I can understand the developer's intent with this; give the fans what they want, there's no harm in that. However, I can't help but think of Loveless, which contained plenty of (more overt) shounen-ai content and still managed to have personal merit. Alarmingly, the two can actually coexist! Take notes, Bee Train, and try harder with season two.

I'll be watching that, by the way, because if it's as funny as this season then there's no way I can miss it. Around halfway through this season I grew so bored of it that I invited two friends who I knew would lambast it to marathon the series with me. Needless to say, the experience was transformed from below-average to wonderful. It's a shame I had to use Meine Liebe as that, because this honestly had potential, were it not for its desperate attempts at subtlety and wildly caricatural characters.

After watching the whole series, I have to say that this is not a shonen-ai series. They put it in the wrong genre. But, i am glad that it not shonen-ai.

Actually, this is the first series that I watch that is classified in the 'shonen-ai'.
Overrall, I have watch better anime, but this I would consider is a "watch it" anime.

Meine Liebe is a beautiful, historical anime that taps into aristocratic life in an imaginary kingdom called Kuchen. Judging from all the German involved, I'm guessing that it's meant to be set in olden Germany. It is definitely nothing to be missed, especially if you like exploring olden values and morals!

Animation: Good.
Sound: I like the OP and ED, also the OST displays a good environment for the series.
Story: There was hardly any story development because the directors did not intend to have a strong one at all. More like a small plot yet action is still shown and it may appeal that it could be strong and significant, although the story is targeting on character development, because of the majority side of telling the past, present and perhaps the future of the protagonist and antagonist's story and context. The climax of this story was right at the end, which really put my butt off the edge of the seat and wondered what will happen?! Alas, in conclusion, Orphus was safe, and everything was back to the 'boring' normal routine, again... Which... bored me.
Character: It was very well done, however, because there was too many characters to actually cover the whole story, it sort of took that 'feeling' away from the character's development yet still accomplish to show some good effort in revealing their past and problems also their potential benefits of their goals. I believe that they could have done a much better job by planning the story more thoroughly and insightfully. This anime almost illustrated who I am, creative, but lacks quality in context. Secondly, all of the guys are hot, and I seriously think that they should have put sexual explicit content in the series, otherwise it's just a deadend road for any yaoi fans' horomones, oh snap... Oh well...
Value: N/A
Enjoyment: I enjoyed it... I guess!

What a bizarre bishonen show. For a BL show, it wasn't really fluffy enough, and for a strong drama, it was really corny. The characterization was awful, since each character was just an archetype. But I just couldn't stop watching. Meine Liebe has an energy - it's so corny, but it's just so much fun to watch, any bishonen fan can't resist. There's nothing quite like this show, and I think that it is a good thing.

I must also mention that the setting and time perido are VERY unique to anime, and I think that anyone interested in seeing an old European setting in anime will want to watch this.

I enjoyed this anime, but I wouldn't recommend it to everyone. This anime is heavily based on character development, so not much really happens in this series. (There is a small conspiracy which runs throughout the series but otherwise is has an episodic structure) I liked the characters though they do demonstrate the usual anime archetypes - the noble and somewhat naive protagonist, the protagonist's laid-back and somewhat immature friend, the stoic nemesis of the protagonist, etc. The world in which they live is controlled by mannerisms, dictated by honour, and manipulated by wit and cunning rather than physical force, so there isn't much action, though there are some impressive sword fights. So, if you enjoy and/or are intrigued by what I've mentioned above (like me), then I would recommend this anime.

Based on the first eight episodes from the Shining Fansubs collection. I enjoyed the first eight eps, and being a girl, I enjoyed the simple "Oh my God there are pretty boys and they're GENTLEMEN!" aspect of it... For a more detailed review, clicky the linky.

Based on the first five episodes.

At first I wonder what kind of plot this series have, since this series doesn't follow the storyline of the game (since it's sort of dating game).

So far, the first five or six episodes explain the background and some information on the six main characters, and reveals that some bad guys are plotting something sinister to defend their "power".

About the genre of this anime, I'd say shoujo, coz it focuses on the relationships between the characters, there's hardly any shounen ai, however there are some slashy moments for those who are into fanfics to write about. ^^;

So far so good, I wonder what will happen next, will it get angsty later? Just watch and see.

This review is based on the first four episodes. It's hard to describe this anime. It doesn't really fall neatly into any particular genre of anime. I guess it's just about these five guys and their pasts and how they relate to each other. Also, about how they go through this really elitist school. I guess it's kind of a drama, action. There is no underlying story arc except how these boys work to become a Stahl, which is supposed to be like the advisor to the king. I suppose some of the interaction could be interpreted as shounen ai, but there is nothing overt. Overall, I thought it was a pleasant, interesting anime.
