Okusama wa Mahou Shoujo is the tale of Urishiko, a twenty-six year old woman living in the town of Wonderland. She has a big secret that she can tell nobody, not even her husband. She is the magical protector of this town named Agnes. She is nearing retirement and the magic council sends in a replacement named Cruje. Cruje, when we first meet her, is somewhat misanthropic and thinks the town should be redone differently. Because of this, Ureshiko will not hand over the magical ring that the guardian holds.

I often have a falling out with anime. My life becomes too busy and I stop watching all shows I had been involved with, as well as those I was anticipating. Before the summer of 2005, I would estimate I hadn't watched anime since Scrapped Princess ended. While this may sound odd, Okusama wa Mahou Shoujo was the show that got me back into watching on a regular basis, continuing that trend to this day.

It's not that the series is amazing or that I even enjoy magical girl shows anymore. But the first episode, and the rest thereafter, drew me in because of the protaganist's deep emotions for the town she lived in. These emotions - of nostalgia, dedication, melancholy, anger, and eventually happiness - shaped the whole environment of the show. Each was reflected in some aspect of the series and, because of this, I stopped thinking of it as a magical girl show and more of a personal drama. Granted, the fantasy elements cannot be ignored, but they seemed to take a backseat to the characters. It was less about saving the world and more about Asaha saving her own world, her memories. I found this particularly interesting, especially how the writers emphasized differences between generations, the misunderstandings each suffers (the Council vs. Asaha vs. her young successors). Considering all of this, I found it to be a refreshing take on the magical girl genre, not only because it features an older magical "girl." Okusama wa Mahou Shoujo adds original elements to an already established genre and, for that, I think people will find it surprisingly pleasing.

[Note: There is a decent amount of fanservice in this show, but it was never really distracting to me.]

This anime is really odd. It has a mix of action scenes, ecchi pervertedness, totally random magical scenes, breaking out of the shell, growing up themes, and some confusing parts that allow you to watch it to the end in order for you to figure out what exactly is going on. The length is just right for this type and it doesn't run the enjoyableness too thin. It is worth watching mostly because of the close human interactions that exist within 1) the table of past magical girl managers 2) the apartment with the guy 3) the publishing place 4) the elementary school. I really felt warmth in the character interactions. Even when the world and character bonds start to fall apart, the atmosphere is still there that keeps you watching.

As for the magical transformation of this anime, I found it to be totally out of place. If someone were to walk into the room while I was watching it, they would think that I was watching a hentai and it would be really embarassing. If only they didn't make it seem like they were being molested from the Realm magic place, but I guess it is just a way to lighten the atmosphere. The fact that the latter part of this anime has less of this tells you how serious it tries to be.

One of the downfalls of this anime is that aside from the 'warm human interactions', and the random magical fight or humor scenes, the pacing is kind of flat and boring. They also use the same repetitive elements between excessive magic and Realm stuff, human problems with change, pervertedness, and then some "romance". The end is also kind of (?) confusing. I don't really understand the point of Realm at all. The whole thing with Realm and Wonderland really detracted from the story. I mean, it is a nice way to draw out what it means to be human and to change for the better, but it gets really corny at times.

In the end, this anime is kind of unique in that the characters seem to be somewhat dramatic, somewhat slow, yet somewhat boring at times, all wrapped up in a weird shell (animation-wise) and that could easily fit hentai animes or weird silly random animes (because the main character seems to be so air-headed, yet really isn't). It just doesn't seem to add up. Sometimes I wonder if it just one big sob story... or if it really has any merit. Maybe its both.

No Kiss? What about sex? or touching boob?

Once the anime got 'another world' you know it gonna be suck. This is not a boring anime but it sure ain't interest one either. First they bring us a load of ecchi fanservices. Transformation scenes look like a girl having an orgasm. Acutally this is the worst magical girl transformation I've ever seen. Secondly the plot is weaksause. Other reaml world creating the human world is one thing, but they never explain anything about magical girl or how they manage the whole world. Who ever made the law about kissing should be behead. It does not make any sense they can't kiss but can get married or be naked with each other.

If you can by the stupid ideas I just mention, then you had good characters waiting for you. And a good background music to boost it up. I nod my head left and right sometime while watching I just love the sunny days and the beach :D Main chars can sum up as chilish, both of them were. I like Sayaka(Cruje) the most maybe bcuz i'm always a cute girl magical girl but she is just perfect girl to be one.

Anyone who don't mind a pointless plot or no real story should check this out, don't be fool/annoy by the early ecchi, it calm down and they got more chessy scenes for ya.

Okusama Wa Mahou Shojo, is an anime that loosely fits into the magical girl genre. Despte this fact this anime was quite good. The story wasn't the deepest around however, It just fit with the mood of the show. If you want to know more about this decent anime read on.

Full of fanservice and plotholes. It has romance but I didnt bite. Some cheesy drama, a little love triangle, and pointless magic blabber.

Good:
It has Belldandy/Mizuho(Oteacher) voice actress and a fairly promising premise for romance fans. Extremely ecchi but funny transformation. There was also a love triangle that started interesting but ended up disappointing. I liked how Agnes uses magic around the house.

Bad:
The whole formatting of the town concept was something I could not understand. The whole magic council deal just made it way to... silly. Agnes really didn't have to be married from the start, which took away any sort of legitimate bonding with the main character. Finally, I thought the ending was too predictable and a few resolutions felt forced.

Conclusion:
Fans of magic girl animes and corny romance, give it a shot. Otherwise, its rather mediocre.

Really nice suprise here - seemingly typical mahou shoujo theme with a new twist.

I like it for the reasons I love all my favourite anime:
- characters are likable, they grow on you within 3-4 episodes
- the story is interesting and although not very inventive, it's good enough for me to wait for each episode
- the execution - sound, animation, backgrounds - is just perfect for this story. I'd call it "classic" style.
- when you watch it, you never feel bored, despite the fact that the action itself is pretty slow

Don't think it's just a childish shoujo - there are some pretty serious "adult" problems shown and it makes you think a little bit.

Among other shows aired this season, it reminds me of Zettai Shounen and Honey and Clover. Mostly because of this "nostalgic" feel to them. I don't think that they are really shows for little kids, though.

Anyway, if you're a serious anime fan, you should give it a try.

Above review was based on 9 episodes only.

Okusama wa Mahou Shoujo is one of the big surprises of the summer season. The show really at first reminded me 1960’s U.S. Television Series, Bewitched. But it has changed to a very different type of show. One of the show’s big pluses is how much the show is character driven in the episodes that have aired so far.

The quality of the Seiyuu cast in this show is outstanding. Inoue Kikuko, who best known for the voice of Mizuho from Onegai Teacher & Belldandy from AA! Megami Sama has just the right voice for the lead female character, Asaha Ureshiko. Kishio Daisuke, who has voiced such characters as Chitose from Happy Lesson and Suginami in Da Capo, does a great job as Kagura Tatsumi, the main male character.

With 9 episodes aired out of the 13, I am going go ahead and rate this as a must watch and recommend it to anybody that will listen as one of this year’s best.

One word, LOLLLLLLLL!

It was amusing.. XD!!! Saving the world secretly?! O__o;; now that's just odd.. hahah ---

but the problem with this story is that it's somewhat predictable in what will happen later on. Some things in there were funny XD .. ohh what laugh-- hm.. although I've seen a couple of episodes since this anime was released.

I really enjoyed the music, sound, animation, and-- hm.. the background music with different scenes were a perfect match, heh, i really want to see more-- what will happen.

I don't see any conflict yet, but that's okay--

one thing that is strange... and i quite don't get it.. but how did she married her husband, if she didn't even kissed him?

i guess i enjoy it, it's funny.. well i usually wait for funny scenes to pop up-- :P
