Erementar Gerad (a.k.a. Elemental Gelade) is the tale of Guardia. It is a world where there are special humans known as Eldel Raids. They can react with humans to form a special weapon.

Coud is a sky pirate. His team hijacks a shipment, and among the booty is a cask. Inside is Ren, a special Eldel Raid known as the Shiko-houju. Ren's goal is to go to a land known as Eldel Garden. Coud agrees to this. Along the way, they meet Cisqua, Rowen, and Kuea. They are with Arc Aile, a group dedicated to protecting Eldel Raids from those who would abuse them. Enemies from all around try to stop them.

Elemental Gelade is an OK series to watch. At first it may look like a kiddie show [which I think it is], but it actually get's a little better and more entertaining so it might be something those of us over 13 might enjoy....just keep in mind it's still simple.

Erementar Gerad one of the series that I would expect to come. Humans using Eden Raids for weapons, while the Eden Raids use the humans for a body to use their power.

Well the beginning was really really strange to me. I mean we get the most powerful Eden Raid by bombarding a ship. How random is that? How did those guys obtain it in the first place? Well i guess they can't start a story without that i suppose. Basically Coud makes a pact with Ren and they unite as one as a weapon. Coud doesn't want to use Ren as a weapon though. He doesn't think of her as a tool. But Ren wants to fight in order to protect Coud. Well that's what happens on the way of the story. The purpose of the story is taking Ren to the garden of Eden.

The battle scenes is what makes the Erementar Gerad going. Yeah i enjoyed the battles. Especially the way how Coud uses a hook (grappling hook) as a weapon. Strange for a weapon but i guess it'll just have to do. Now what they done well was the weapon transformation. Yes beautifully well done along with the transparent Eden Raid person in the background.

The characters is alright, but gives each character unique personalities. Such as Rena hating humans but changing later. Coud wanting power yet not wanting it at the same time. Kuea always being hungry and Rowen whose mister perfect or almost. Cisqua i believe is just one of those dunce/idiot i disliked her the most. Not funny just being a retard. I thought that the voice for each character was good. Each fits their personality the best i suppose. The sub-main character voice acting wasn't all that great. And yes the voice actor for Cisqua did a great job in making her stupid.

These types are just one of those plot twister ones. And I expected that this anime had one so i wasn't too surprised. Especially the ending.

Overall if you like some fantasy and action. This is your stop right here. Story may be shaky but the fighting makes up for that and the characters too.

Erementar Gerad is an anime that doesn't fall in the good category, but it barely misses the bad category. Putting it in the mediocre/bad category and you don't want to be in that group at all.

Animations are meh. The backgrounds felt like they were rushed and made by a nine year old. This is an anime that came out in 2005, the animations look like they came out in 1990s. At least it was colorful. Which was the only good thing about the animations.

The background music was awful to listen to. I didn't like the commercial song, it sounded like something you hear when you're in the civil war. The OP song was awesome though. (That was the whole reason I watched this anime) The voice acting was average, everyone sounded boring and felt like the seiyuus didn't care.

The story seemed like something I watched from a Saturday morning cartoon. The story was save the world from the evil people. It was like the producers had a checklist. Typical. CHECK! Boring. CHECK! Predictable. CHECK! Cliché. CHECK! Now let's make this anime. The ending was fine at least, it was better then some endings I've seen from other animes. There isn't that much depth in the story and that makes it feel like you're watching a slideshow of events that happened in the anime.

The characters are predictable. You have a shy one, a noisy one, the smart one and you could probably guess what would happen next and what the character's would do next. Totally boring characters.

This show is only here for you to kill time and when you are bored and have nothing else to do with your life. Nothing really interesting happens in the anime except for meeting new characters and getting a little bit farther in the journey.

If you like plain and boring stories or love plain characters who don't change at all in the story, old graphics, and mediocre background music then this anime is for you. But if you don't like those four things I mentioned above then watch something else and if you see this anime somewhere run as far away as you can.

This is a decent anime. Decent, not excellent, but not bad either. It gives you a feeling that the story ended too fast, which it probably did because it only has 26 eposodes. The setting in this anime was decent, although not excellent since it doesn't trigger any future plot twists of the story. It has good base characters such as the main male and female protagnists and their sidekicks, but didn't develop them very well because they didn't "change" much(either emotionally or physically) as the story progresses. Elemental Gelade contains a good plot. However, it isn't very unique and it didn't show many signs of development as the story moves on. I have seen better animes that are similar to this (e.g.,Eureka Seven), where the plot and characters "grew" with the main story.

The songs in this anime are not very enjoyable. The OP song was pretty good but the rests are just a bit above average. It doesn't gives you the excitement or an adrenline surge that you would normally get from other action/fantasy anime theme songs.

In conclusion, if the developers know how to truly bring this fantasy story to it's limits, such as further develops the plot and the relationships between the character, it will be a very good anime.

Erementar Gerad is a run-of-the-mill action series. The story has all the elements you'd expect from a series like this; the damsel in distress, the spirited youth that falls in love with her and gets superpowers, the superpowered sidekick(s), the powerless sidekick(s), the bad guys, and some elements that are actually somewhat surprising, including a fairly clever conclusion.
I might be making this series sound quite bad now, but it really isn't. It's quite entertaining and has a memorable housy OP and nice animation. With a few exceptions, the characters are cool too. By far not a must-watch, but worth it if you like superpower anime.

For a series predicated on such canonical shounen pitch, Erementar Gerad lends itself surprisingly well to romance fans. Coud accompanies Ren in search of her homeland - allowing great scope for romantic maneuverability. Rarely has a shounen shown itself more adroit with the musings of a romantic drama piece than the remorselessly kinetic action of a full-blooded shounen. As if to complement the romantic in Erementar Gerad, the story is set in a land that closely resembles a medieval Europe fantasy. Here, humans foster rapport with humanoid weapons; pitched battles are waged with huge blades.

There is no gainsaying that the anime has more staple elements than most in its vein. It hasn't the cachet of the usual romance titles, which makes the appeal of the series surprising. Erementar Gerad is awash with simple romantic gestures, but that doesn't mean it isn't delightful to watch. If anything, its simplicity makes it potent, the story never giving in to stilted symbolisms or maudlin. As Coud and Ren strike out for each other the screen brims with emotion, especially when they are kept apart trial after trial.

Plot trajectory is linear, but that's what its audiences should have seen coming. Because Erementar Gerad is shounen, its makers probably feel little pressure to craft the romance into something really excellent; this in turn has a positive effect on the anime, as its makers are more able to draw on their instincts to make the drama feel real. Coud and Ren are eloquent with the subtle language of attraction, but the anime only reaches mediocrity on every other level. The entire ending is a showpiece for anime mawkishness, and the rest of the cast either fail to charm or lack emotional resonance. Though in its own way, Erementar Gerad is a glorious rejoinder to turgid romance dramas. Few could truly appreciate the modest success of the anime, and despite having an overall coarse appearance, Erementar Gerad has swashbuckling appeal, with enough intensity to make it worth a look.

OMG... my first review...

I first found out of this anime as i was browsing through the Gendou Forums. I decided to try it out since my hoildays were coming and i had nothing better to do. I felt the anime was quite good although i can understand y others may not have like it.

Animation:
Not that great for a 2005 released anime. Acceptable.... but could have been much better. Most of the battle scenes were quite plain and kind of boring since most of Coud's offencive skilled all looked pretty much the same. Overall its nothing to get excited about.

Sound:
Nothing much to complain about the voice acting other then Ren's pronunciation of "Cou"(I wish he has a different name). The voice acting was pretty good as far as I'm concerned. I liked both the OP and the ED. I enjoyed the BGM even though i not a big fan of Kajiura Yuki (I 1 of those few ppl who dislike the .Hack//sign series soundtrack). I felt the arrangement of the songs where very good and some songs got me really emotional. I felt the songs had a Final Fantasy/Tales series kind of feel, very RPG/game like. Overall a very enjoyable soundtrack.

Story:
Not the greatest story ever, but its not bad either. It had quite a few twists and "shocking" revelations, but it didn't bring much excitment. While the story was enjoyable, i didn't feel the urge to watch the next episode like i usually feel when i watch a good anime series. The series was pretty good in the 1st few episodes, but when downhill after a while. That said, i really liked the last few episodes of the anime, the ending was pretty satisfaying. The biggest and most obvious flaw if this series was that its story had VERY little depth, which is a major turn-off for most ppl. As i said, I liked the series, but think i can understand why others wouldn't. Basically, u need not think much when watching this series, as everything will be answered eventually. This is 1 of those "complete" anime, where there really isn't a need for a second series (although a sequel would have been nice).

Characters:
Hmm, the character design were ok, nothing too special. I didn't go Wow when i first saw Ren, but i eventually grew to like her. I liked most of the characters, espically Cisqua for crazy overly optimistic nature. I like both Kuea and Rowan as I felt they played a parental (is that how to put it?) role. I like Ren for her innocence and her kindness. The only character i didn't like was (ironically) Coud. He is just a "standard" male anime lead, with exception that he is practically useless without Ren. He is probably the least original character. 1 thing I liked about this anime was it villans. Throughout the series i kept wondering if
*spoiler* the choas choir was really evil, and it turned out that they really were. But at least they were willing to admit defeat when they realised that they were in the wrong. In the end, what they truly wanted was not to rule the world (or just liked senseless violence), instead they just wanted peace for Eden Raids. *end spoiler*.

Value:
Not much i guess, it not 1 of those animes i will remember for a long time or rewatch in the near future. But it is fun to watch and good to kill time.

I really enjoyed this series, its the type of anime that i really like (fantasy, action, romance and comedy). Its definetly worth the time, espically for fantasy anime fans.

This anime was nothing too special, didn't really affect me as the viewer and was really just there for me to watch..kinda like one of those flight-trip books, occupy time.

The animation wasnt anything special, but it wasnt bad. It fitted the type of genre it was in, and portrayed what was intended to be viewed to its full extent. It did its job the best it could.

I didnt really like the songs, and in the end I didnt really listen to them, hence why I have nothing to say about them. For the voice acting, there wasn't anything negative I noticed, so it did its job well.

The story was a little bland. It had its fair share of twists and side-walks, but at the end, it didnt really have any depth to it. The story in all, was in a way kind of original with its twisty plot where you don't know what the end of the plot will be like until near the end (when your supposed to find out). But the story itself was very shallow. Kinda pathetic. There was an attempt for depth, in a way relating to the modern world and the characters are fighting against it etc etc, but its kind of lost into the flashy attempts of actioning up the story.

The characters were not original at all, as the male protagonist is the normal (kinda annoying) hard headed, little on the stupid side, seems to always attract the female protagonist and always works out with all the other characters in the end and bam end story. The other characters were also not too original, but were easier to relate, and fit well with the story. They were all unique in their own way, and covered up for the bad one.

Watch it if you have nothing better to watch, or just want to occupy some time. Wouldn't go as far as to say it was a complete waste of my time.

As anime grows as a medium it is only natural for plots and ideas to be repeated and recycled. Erementar Gerad, as an idea, is one such anime. Using another living being as a weapon to fight others, varying in power and level is a little generic. However, this anime does surprise you a lot along the way. From the various twists, to the endearing characters...it is far from the generic anime it looks to be.

Nothing really interesting about this anime. To me it feels like this is a combination of things that were done sucessfully before but turned out not quite right here. Pathetic animation, dull and cliche storyline with your sterotype characters made it quite an average experience watching this though. It is something to watch while waiting for the better series to come.

To summerize it fast: feels average, maybe a bit over it. Not quite complicated story. Characters feel a bit simple.

Animation: could be better, nothing new, feels like the '90s.

Sound: seiyuus ok, but nothing special. Kajiura Yuki music, very good as we would have expected, but doesn't fit the series exactly, should've been used for a better series.

Story: simple, at the beginning slow, but than again, moving (I mean moves the heart, though just a little, since the emotions are a bit simple).

Character: not much improvement here. Except for a few exceptions the characters remain the same from the beginning 'till the end.

Value: sometimes moving, nice ideas about how people could live together. Than again, still feels a bit simple.

Enjoyment: the series felt average and simple unfortunately, though it had very good parts. With more complexity it could have been a great series, but like this it's more like average, or a bit over average.

This one was a pain to watch, both by artistic points as well as story wise. I still cannot understand how have people rated this show this high, for this is hardly original, and is hardly entertaining.

The animation is BAD. Whoever says otherwise has obviously not seen much anime. The backgrounds are plain sketches, so plain that they remind me of the drawings I did when I was 10 years old. The faces are crude and so are the costumes. And was Ren supposed to be cute? She looked to me - kinda - on dope.
The sound was the same, way average with not a single score noteworthy. The seiyuu were also average with the exception of Cisqua - her seiyuu was - different, definitely original and it made an interesting watch.

The story was - hmmm - childish. It would set a 12 year old kid on fire. Unfortunately I'm 22. Not so appealing, all the aspects are done childishly, the fights are crude, the emotions consist of Coud blushing and Ren sleeping. The story in the first 12 episodes is - episodic. It pulls up a little from episode 15 but always stays below the line of OK - which was very frustating, for I always believed that it would get better (which it did'nt.)

The characters were way below par. Ren was on dope. She reminded me of a sleepy pegion going "COO!!!" Coud was a complete clone of Edward Elrich. And way below him. The only character who stood out was Cisqua - she makes the show lively, and her seiyuu was incredibly funny. All other characters are pieces of crud.

Erementar Gerad was useless, and I only recommend it to kill time when you are so bored that you just have to do something. Otherwise this is for 12 year olds. *presses the delete button, frees up 4 gb of space*

The way this anime makes light of tragic events was the first sign of a bad anime. Not only did they try to make comedy out of more sad events, they left out a lot of transitions in between events. For example, in episode two, somehow the Coud was in a ship, then the next moment he is found hanging upside down in a tree. A lot of things in both story, character development, character interaction, and animation are taken for granted. They somehow expect us to enjoy this atmosphere and fantasy world with gaps in between. This is one of those animes that follow and rely solely the law of infinite energy, because the character basically has infinite enthusiasim and motivation... nothing interesting aside from seeing new places happens in this anime.

The only good part of this animation is the vibrant color. The character designs are kind of nice, but again the only reason that animation is kind of bearable is because it is made recently. But the lack of effort in animation makes this anime hard to take seriously...

What I also do not like about this anime is how the characters express themselves randomly. All the characters jump from happy to serious in a blink of an eye. There is not a good balance of realism. For example, when one of the villagers went to tell their landlord about the landing of Ren, the way they 'convinced' him to tell what happened is really arbitrary and random. In the end, this seems to be targeted towards the younger audience. You do not really need to understand the sequence of events. You just need to be able to understand moving pictures to watch this.

However, if an adventure/fantasy anime has a good story or fantasy world. Yet I found characteristics of Erementar Gerad to be similar to many other fantasy animes. Some magical/fantasy element to make it a fantasy anime, some greedy villain to fill ultimate baddy, some kind-hearted main character, some place to go to.

If you've seen Tsubasa Chronicle, this anime essentially has a similar atmosphere about it. Each episode has a very light connection to the previous episode. There is an ultimate goal, a lot of adventures in between. There are a lot of weird magical elements mixed together. However, unlike Tsubasa Chronicle, the main character is very unlikeable. Also, the humor that is randomly interspersed is annoying and makes this anime hard to enjoy fully as an adventure. It just feels that each episode tries to be independent and if you stepped in at any time, you could still follow the main flow of the story

This is actually my first review, but I've got lots to say about this series...

First off, let me say that the description is VERY misleading. The first time I read the description I thought to myself this is going to be another crappy anime that uses strong sexual themes to get it going. That mainly came from the word "pleasure"... which I believe should be "Pledger" instead (it makes perfect sense... it's a person who you pledge to!).

With that out of the way, let me try to categorize the review...

_Animation_
It's nothing exceptionally good and nothing terrible. I'd say it's not as good as other animes at it's time (2005), but I think it's acceptable. There were times when there was noticable drops in quality but that only happened a few times in the later episodes anyways. Besides that the quality was rather stable and if you can get over the point that it's subpar for its time, you should find the animation pretty enjoyable.

_Sound_
I'm giving it a 9 because the voice acting was alright but the soundtracks they used were fantastic, at least to me it seems anyways. If you like a more classical sense of music (I guess somewhat like Full Metal Alchemist) you'll like the music this anime has to offer. Sometimes there are a few other style (mainly in battles) but they're implemented well.

_Story_
Generally the story is about Coud (the male protagonist) finding Ren (the female protagonist) and somehow he made a promise to aid her in her quest to their destination - Adil Garden. Now I'm aware that there are many different translation of that word, but I just don't believe it's Eden. Anyways it's a typical adventure story. However the story fall shorts as it seemed rushed in the later half of the series. Battles were cut short noticably, Characters suddenly seem to understand each other so well when there shouldn't have been any kind of relationship between them... I would give it an 8 if the story was not so rushed. Also the resolution was rather weak and quite expectable for a series this size... which is rather unfortunate.

_Character_
The characters were strong in this series, as they each have their own unique traits. Some might argue that they're cliched and overused (like a stone-cold character with little emotions and one who's always hotheaded), but I believe they accompany the story well so I'd overlook that point. There were some whom I had trouble with though like Coud who just doesn't feel like a main character physically. Some might say that makes him more human, but I would have expected a stronger character for this kind of anime. Also there were a few characters which I'd assume would take on more role but felt so disposed as the series rushed to its end. Some just reappeared on screen for old times sake without much explanation.

_Value_
The story, though rushed, explained itself quite well, so I don't suppose there'd be any need to rewatch the series. However you might want to watch it again just for the sake of it, as it's a rather fun ride.

_Enjoyment_
What can I say... there were humourous times and sad times in the series, and times when it intrigues you to think, so I'd say it was rather enjoyable if not for the fact that the second half of the series fell short. (Yes I really dislike that)

Overall I'd say, if you're in the mood for a fantasy based story that's packed with some good action and can overlook some flaws, then you'd find Erementar Gerad a series that's worth your time to watch.

I was surprised how good this show was!Definitely one of better adventure animes that i have seen.Ok lets start with review.
ANIMATION-now this was not that good ! Characters were drawn well ,action scenes were great to but most of the time background was awful. It looked like animation from early 90-es and that was disappointing. Not that background animation is that important but still it wasn't nice to see it.
SOUND-just great OST in this one.But when Yuki Kajiura is behind it there is nothing to be surprised.Opening song fits anime perfectly ,ending song i didn't like.Overall great OST !
STORY- i liked it ,some might say is was cliche ,but i think it was at moments very unpredictable and that is what i liked most. Also what is important for story to be good and not boring ,is pace of the story. And this one was fast , no "watching paint dry" moments ,story developes smoothly and in same time very rapidly so many things can happened in just one episode and i never got bored ,just wanted to see more. Most of the time endings in anime are bad but not in this one.Ending was great ,nothing was let unanswered, but there is something that leaves you thinking that there might be second season.
CHARACTERS-I liked them all ,especially Cisqua ! In beginning of the show ,all the way to the middle she was most of the time "funny character" ,doing funny things and giving funny comments ,but when show approaches ending she got more serious (that is needed for ending).Coud is main character and i also found him likeable since he trys to keep his promise which he gave to Ren that he will take her to Eden Garden ,and he gives all he has to keep that promise ,no matter what !Ren was very original character and that is why i liked her a lot.
VALUE- I think that if you are Anime Fan than this is a must see.
ENJOYMENT-Its been a while since i enjoyed any anime like this one.It was really great show with all elements for great action/ADVENTURE anime with some romance in it.

I wanted to change my review because after a couple other animes, I realized I totally overrated this anime and I felt that it was unfair to deceive other anime watchers into watching this. The thing is, the dning of erementar gerad was enough to change my mind about the entire anime, but the reality was that it really wasn't that great.

Erementar Gerad is riddled with problems but it's still not a overly bad series just.. not special..

Boy oh boy, Erementar Gerad (EG). What can i say about? Despite the 'ok' OST, and soem good episodes, EG is not a good deal of fun. The main problems lie within the overall story and the entertainment that it provides. The fact that this is an adventure should become an exciting one with interesting characters and interesting scenarios.. but no, this anime is full of boring almost generic events that almost serve no purpose aside from buying time to go to the Garden of Eden.

The story about Eden Raids, Humans and Sitting Raids is an interesting one that never got developed until the last episodes, but by then, i didn't really care. The talk about racial diversity and stuff should interest me but doesn't with the way how EG narrated it.. everything about it seems so down-trodden.

The characters seems to be another problem in my list, Coud and Ren build up a predictable ladder of love, which can be smelt from a mile away. While other side characters did their job to either a satisafactory or unsatifactory standard. One good character was Viro who thankfully is a highlight of this show, she was actually entertaining in terms of comedy, action or drama, so much said for the other characters who are predictable after 2 episodes.

Overall, a very boring average adventure.. adventures shouldn't be as bad as this.
