Not sure what the big fuss is about this anime. The story tends to drag, fighting the same enemies over and over and over. It was interesting until 20 somewhat espisodes, it should've ended there with a good ending.

When I watched the first couple episodes of Blood+, The first thing that came to mind was “What in the [beeeeeeeep] did they do to my show?” Anyone who has seen the original Blood knows what time it is....Blood was pretty hardcore, no bones about it! So my initial reaction to seeing this new Blood+ [and Saya] amongst all this idyllic scenery and a regular school and home life complete with parent and siblings was complete and utter shock leading to dismay indeed. But then as this amazing story unfolds, I realized that this show way better than it seemed at first. Even if the art style is kind of shoujo, do NOT let that mislead you or dissuade your from watching this series!

BlOOD+ An honest review

Well just finished the entire series, I tend to watch English dub versions of anime I feel could be a hit and miss and Blood+ was just that..a miss.

Animation

Was average, nothing special at all, after watching The Movie BLOOD i was surprised they used such cute-ish character designs that I have seen in so many school life animes. Action-wise the animation felt a little dull but not terrible.

Sound

Well I watched the English dub as stated
The voice actors where well chosen but nothing extraordinary yet again.
Opening and Ending was average yet again..i mean average comes to mind so much I dunno what else to say.

Story

One word keeps coming to mind when I think about the story…..POTENTIAL.
Once I got to the end of the anime and I knew the whole story I found myself thinking it had a lot of potential but the implementation of the story was mismatched, slow and it just feels very anti-climactic. I was disappointed because it felt like the story stole elements from various other animes and it just seems like another TYPICAL monsters vs. the hero anime. I think people who watched the movie blood will defiantly be disappointed with the story but then again that’s just my opinion.

Character

Well the characters where all AVERAGE variety IMO, but I feel like it was a bit too cute-ish as mentioned before I mean you had a lot of military guys scientist and siya herself. I did’nt really have a problem with the characters they all just felt very predictable with little or no depth to them even the mysterious siya herself.

Value

Very low value, I wouldn’t buy it, recommend it or watch it again.
Chances are if you like this and give/gave it a high rating you haven’t seen animes
Like this before, SHANA for example, which is better IMO.

Final Comments

If you watched the movie BLOOD and are expecting a similar series you will be in for a unpleasant surprise. BLOOD+ is not the worst anime I’ve seen but I just like watching anime with originality and depth. Yes I am picky when it comes to anime what can I say.

6.5 / 10

Blood + is an anime that shows us there can never be too much action. The monsters may look a little silly, but the animation is pretty good. The characters are well-developed, and unique. The best part about this show is the storyline. The plot takes us through twists and turns and resolves quite nicely. If you like action and a good plot, this is the anime for you. If you like mindless nudity, you will not get it in this anime. It also has some really creepy undertones, and a love story which is not over the top for once.

Excellent series. It's greatest strength and source of uniqueness is the ambiance it creates that not only draws in the viewer but connects the viewer to the characters who are also inextricably woven into the environment of the overall mood. Hope that doesn't seem too esoteric, but what I mean is that Blood+ does not simply present characters acting in a neutral environment, the struggle is characterized by an overall tone that all of the characters appear to be immersed in and aware of. The series starts off weaker than it becomes as it takes time, it seems, for the creators to really settle on their characters and for the characters to become less extreme and more multi-dimensional. Finally, the creators are very willing to break from archetypes and general rules; although they struggle with making this work sometimes it is a valiant effort.

General idea of ratings:
below 5 is outright offensive, 6 is annoying but you can deal, 7 is not good but not bad (par), 8 is good but not great, 9 is great, 10 is so good I can't imagine how it would be significantly better. Something really has to strike me to make a 10.

BLOOD+ is a 50 episode Vampire Anime about a girl named Otonashi Saya.

I rank BLOOD+ as my second favorite anime just under Full Metal Panic.

The anime runs for 50 episodes which has the possibility of being sluggish and drag on, but Blood+ didn't do that. It made me want to watch every episode right after another. I finished the entire series in 4 days.

The plot was well thought out and it does well at developing an intriguing story. I thought Blood+ was far superior to Blood: The Last Vampire (An OVA that gave the premise behind Blood+).

It explained so many questions that I was asking after watching Blood: The Last Vampire which is expected since they had 50 episodes to do it.

I sometimes got frustrated at Saya but for the most part the support characters like Haji and her brothers always kept my hopes up that she would reach her potential.

This anime also has one of my favorite villain characters being "Diva". As the story fills in the mystery behind this woman it really pulls you in.

Overall, I really don't have anything negative to say about this anime. I am always looking for new anime series to watch and even with the length of this one I will definitely take some time in the future to re-watch Blood+

I'm incredibly surprised that this anime isn't on the top 200 list. It should be

Before I watched this anime, I read some of the reviews. I heard a lot of things about how bad the ending was. This definitely was not true, as I thought it was the best part of the whole story.

Other criticisms being that it was slow, those are true. It started off slow, actually the entire first season was slow. Then it picked up and slowed back down. The last 10 episodes at least should have been compressed into one. this would have worked so much better as a 26 episode series instead of a 50.

The animation is good. I cant complain about it.

The story was good too. I hear people bashing it because it was not very original, but that doesnt matter. They took a new spin of it and made it have a good story. Although the story in this anime was just dragged out way too long. The story was still consistent, kept you guessing (kind of predictable, but good enogh I guess), and was interesting.

Characters. First of all, Saya sucked. Terrible main character, one of the worst out of the many animes I have watched. She was boring and flat-lined when it came to emotions. Kai was a character in which this series should have mae the main character. His progression through adolescence to adulthood was excellent and truly believable. If the anime was shown through his perspective rather than Saya's, it would have been so much better. Haji was also a really cool character. Although his kack of concern for himself kind of made me dislike him a bit in the end.

My complaints about this anime sadly outweigh the compliments. It stretches out a 26 episode anime into a 50, has a horrible main character, and the first 20 or so episodes were boring.

I did enjoy watching it tough, despite the poor comments. If I didnt want to finish it, I would have stopped watching like I have with a lot of other subpar animes. I have to tell you that I was on the bordrline with this one though. Its worth watching if you have nothing else to watch though. I would assume this makes a better manga.

My ratings may look strange, but I thought it was a great story with poor characters (with a few exceptions) and fairly low value. I will not watch this again. It is slightly dramatic and too long to watch a second time. I enjoyed about 10 of the 50 episodes. I just wish there was some comedic relief or somethingh, I guess this genre isnt to my fancy.

This had everything I was looking for and even more. There was action, drama, romance, etc. Some would call it slow-paced, but I didn't notice. xD It picks up extremely around episode 23. BUT, the best thing about it is...there are absolutely NO FILLER EPISODES. BLOOD+ was very addicting that I realized I was watching over 10 episodes a day.

All this about vampires, ressurections, a woman with a sword, a world tour, and a couple amazing fight scenes could win over a huge crowd for it's complicately delightful 50-episode story with absolutely no substance.

As people jump on the bandwagon since this was a spin-off from a popular movie in addition to being a Saturday 6:00 pm show, we are introduced to a world filled with monsters known as Chiropteran. Later, the Chevaliers appear and the world is on the brink of destruction, only to be destined to be saved by our heroine, Saya, a Japanese who may appear as a teenager but later transforms into some sort of merciful and heartful killer. Her blood is drawn by slicing her own skin and one slice from her blood-covered sword into an open wound can kill any Chiropteran, monster or Chevalier, by infecting their blood and turning them to stone. Sound exciting? At first, maybe, but later, I realized that the story has been playing with my mind and that the substance apparently abandoned the show on the zeroth episode. I only continued since I was on the verge of finishing it.

BLOOD+ is successful in that it's story is so well contrieved that it hides almost all it's faults by moving on from arc to arc with evolving characters you'll come to love from hating and fight scenes that keep getting better and better. You MUST commend the storyboard directors for this. From Okinawa to France to London to New York, the animators have the liberty of drawing many backgrounds and architectural styles while the story opens and closes at various points while it remains flowing. Characters face many many obstacles, and the mystery builds forth until it explodes in your face like light from a rising sun after a temporary 24-hour darkness period.

But when all is flowing right, there will seem to be something missing... Ah, that's right: this is a vampire story. No matter how much depth you put into it, it's still a vampire story, and something off those lines, too. Actually, this is too happy to be a vampire story. There was an idea, and the storyboard just put it to good use, but in the end it's still a... happy vampire story? Saya looks to be happily killing off her own kind, and when the world is about to come to an end, she happily kills the last threat and comes to a happy peace. What is this bullcrap anyway? As you can read... no substance.

Don't take my word for it, but this is a happy vampire story that dug a well too deep that it didn't realize it completely missed the mark by a few meters. Watch it if you love a good story with interesting characters that actually evolve. Stay away if you're about to say "this is another vampire anime".

Blood, the 2000 mini-movie was responsible for a lot of talk in the anime community. After 5 years, Production I.G decided to re-tell the story of Saya (the 16 year old introvert), this time in its entirety by making it a 50 episode mammoth series. Needless to say, the expectations were high from this series when it started airing in Oct'05. And it did justice to its fans, but only till the first season. Then it just slid off into a downward spiral of angst, repetative dialogue and incidents which only put it to shame.

The main theme that drives BLOOD+ along is truly marvelous - in theory. The only problem is that this anime proceeds very very slowly in the beginning all for the sake of providing the background to this main conflict. Essentially, we have two main opposing forces - Diva (one - Diva's chevaliers and two - the humans who work for Diva that don't really know what is going on and Red Shield - the group that gathers to fight against the Chiropteran monsters in whatever shape way and form. Meanwhile, Saya is stuck between both sides... she doesn't have a side herself and essentially is an independent agent. She has a deep and long past that extends many lifetimes, but her current memories are all human daily life memories. Which should she follow? What is her desire? This is the essential question that BLOOD+ asks.

As Saya and Red Shield travel around the world, the viewer starts seeing just how deep everything runs. Saya has some sort of past in essentially every place that the Chiros appear, and these memories are slowly and gradually revealed to us. However, it isn't until really episode 19 that it tries to tackle this problem and there were many times when I felt like giving up during the Vietnam arc. And even stilll, the series proceeds quite slowly in terms of any real solid developments - everyone is doing something substantial and meaningful except Saya. Yet a large part of this series focuses on Saya's problems.

Again, in theory - this anime has a lot going for it. Lots of opposing parties, lots of background story, lots of characters that gather together for different reasons - but the only thing that it lacks is some sort of tension that pulls it all together. One may argue that discovering and figuring out the true past of Saya is what keeps interest, but Saya is the most uninteresting of all characters in BLOOD+, thankfully she has a cool Haji that follows her around.

Another complaint is the vast amount of dialogue in this anime... something that cannot be fixed simply because of the time long dialogue requires. Long story explanations aside, this isn't helped by the fact that there isn't much tension or feeling in the dialogue as most of it just feels kind of ... boring. The amount of detail put into this series is a double-edged sword. It provides more richness to the story but it also dims the intensity.

Overall, I feel that the story and the depth in this series could be appealing to many people. The production quality is definitely nice and the action is decently choreographed with interesting action sequences- definitely orders of magnitude better than those half-assed action animes, but something so intricate as this with all the amount of dialogue and story explanations would have been much more interesting in a text-based manga form.

What? You got a series with a cute, sword wielding school girl who slashes through monsters for 50 episodes? I'm sold.

Actually Blood+ is only 25 episodes of that and 25 episodes of love and other big emotions. Overall Blood+ uses it's length quite well. At the end of the series I really had a feeling that a lot had happened during the year and the first episodes felt nostalgic.

Much of this is related to good character development the series has. The story doesn't stop rough handling the characters and that shows. Taking for example Saya and Kai. I loved how their roles reversed after the dramatic events in episode 32. How Kai stopped being so angsty over himself and started to do things for others and how Saya closed and started to fear for others was very nicely done. The main character Saya, a vampire fighting for humans, is very much likeable. Point one: she's cute. Point two: she wants to desperately protect the ones she loves. Point three: she can swing a sword. Usually when a character starts stubbornly reject people's affection like she did, I'd be annoyed but the series handled her transition strongly enough, it felt natural. Mostly I just wanted to hug her. Quite the opposite for Kai: he was annoying and bratty at the beginning but after huge maturing during the series, he became quite likeable.

There are a lot of side characters in the series too. Luckily the series is 50 episodes, so everyone's story gets attention. I liked how Diva's side got enough attention to make clear how different their motives were. Also Diva's playful attitude was just charming. What comes to the Sif, first I felt they were an artificial addition to fill the series but their story soon got enough flesh to be interesting. And they offered some cool fight scenes too. All in all there wasn't any extra characters but all filled their imperative roles nicely.

Storywise Blood+ wasn't quite so good. It took the series some time before it got good speed. Namely the Vietnam chapter was a bit lame with its Phantom of the Opera theme but after the gang moved to Siberia the story really sucked me in. Until we got the huge thriller during episodes 25-32 after which nothing felt like before. Even if the story afterwards had some interesting stuff going on, as a whole it didn't feel intense enough. As the final climax comes it suffers from the familiar syndrome of good guys suddenly powering up and matching enemies that had wiped the floor with them before. The ending however is very satisfying taking into account how gloomy the series was occasionaly. In the end theme of the series isn't fighting or power but love and friendship (now that sounds really corny...)

Animation isn't all bad either. The overall color mood is fitting for the series and there are some nice fights from time to time. Character designs look somewhat pale, probably because they are quite realistic. Unfortunately character animation isn't too shiny and the characters appear too much like blocks of wood to be too appealing. Some of the monsters were more comic than scary too. Music is good classical and at times pompous stuff that keeps the mood up. Never to forget Haji and his cello. Extra credit goes to the third intro which is both picture- and sound-wise spectacular. Easily in top-5 openings ever.

It's a long run to watch Blood+ with its 50 episodes but excluding a couple of the Vietnam episodes I never felt bored and was waiting for the next episode anxiously. It uses its length in a meaningful way which is something series like Gundam Seed/Destiny or Fushigi Yuugi never did.

This is, by far, the longest anime I've ever watched. And I stuck through every episode. Which means I thought it was interesting.

As a sequel to Blood: the last vampire (though you'll find little similarities between the two, except some of the characters), BLOOD+ aims and succeds to be superior in almost any aspect. Sure, Blood: The Last Vampire was a 50 minute OVA, but BLOOD+ is a 50 episode anime, which manages not to become boring.

Overall, I'd say this is one of the best animes I've ever seen. I can consider myself a fan, which is saying something. I highly recommend this series if you're a fan of vampires.

Can't say enough good about this one. From beginning to end the series had me hooked with exceptional character development weaving through an intricate (but seldom confusing) plot.

I'd give the ending a 8.5 or 9 out of 10. Wasn't the ending I expected, but I'm very satisfied... emotionally gripping, it even portrays a continuum of the story beyond the scope of the series, which is cool to think about.

it was a nice change of pace watching blood +, it started off slow at first but picked up in last half of the series and im glad i hung on and kept watching

animation
very good up to date anime, the fight scenes are what really bring out this anime, the detail, shadows, blood stains etc are just well done, i especially like how they manage to make everyone look more mature and older in the 1 year arc gap during episode 30 i think, very well drawn

sound
well im not much of a intro and ending song fan since i just usually fast forward it and start the next episode but i did give chance and it was well worth it.

story
besides starting off very slow and taking awhile to build up and being very emoish (cut yourself much saya?lol) but its the only way she can kill the baddies just couldnt help but laugh everytime. the story wasnt anything to special but it was the ending and the character developement that really hit it off for me, the last episode was just really well done. i cant think of any better way to end this anime except a few tiny things but that would make it to perfect and no fun ;)

character
each character gets there chunk of screen time letting you get to know them more, there reason for fighting or living,.
the characters arnt super passive yet super agressive, it would have been nice to see saya all super crazy bitch mode like in vietnam but oh well, it was a nice mix and made you feel for saya and her struggle to fight

in conclusion its 3am and this half ass review will do, character development and the ending really made this anime worthwhile watch for me, so go watch it!

I'm disappointed in Blood+ because it had so much potential but all wasted because they didn't really think it thru, or that they had a budget cut (which seemed the case to me). The story was excellent but painfully slow, and the later half of it is, sadly, only half decent. I was going to say characters were terrible, but they are okay on second thoughts, since everyone had their share of story-involvment and developed nicely. The animation is reasonably fliud overall with a number of episodes from the later half being terrible. The Seiyuu did pretty good. Overall I say watch it if you can bear the terribly slow and draggy episodes, which is probably better now since you can watch it in batches instead of waiting painfully every week.

Very very good anime, if you can get past 16 or 17 episodes... This anime starts out SLOW... I mean SLOW... It has a little build up in the beginning, but slows down to a near crawl. I was dragged in after that point. The story is gripping and dramatic. The low points in the beginning seemed a little cheezy at times, but overall it's been a very good watch.

Recommended for just about anyone, but particularly people who enjoy dramatic anime and have a bit of patience. If you're impatient, have a small brain, or some such... don't watch this.

Destined to be one of my top 20 favorites, if things go as they have been so far.

I found this anime to be exciting and have been following up to episode 38. I intend to finish the whole series. My personal fascination with "vampires" has something to do with it I guess.

You won't find really a lot of comedy here, but there are themes of love and family, and about wanting to protect each other. I would say it's quite a serious anime.

well i have never seen blood the last vampire so i am not going to caompare anything and just review blood + as a series by itself.the animation is the best od 2005 and it looks aweome in every way .

sound- this oppening was such a good song i love it so much one of my favorite oppenings ever it was so upbeat in the middle of the song and a nice slow tyope thing in the beginning i love it.kai ,rikku and saya had such great voice actors you can really here the emotio in the characters voices and when they cry to me this is a good and solid seiyu cast.

story-the story is good no you knoow what its awesome. its about a girl named saya who has amnesia of her past and fights monsters known as mouses and also diva and then remembering her past.
it may seem that it has been done before but not in this way it is truly a good plot that actually makes you feel for all and every event that happens.

characters- this is a cast that really you have strong feelings for all of them i and i actually felt bad for them .saya is a strong nice and passionite female character who is so deep and the character development of her in this series is very well done and saya is a very overall well developed character especially with her brothers kai and rikku.hanji was also a strong an d wicked cool character who waas a good fighter and was a very big mystery.overall the relationship between all the characters is very deep.

enjoyment- this was a good drama series and actually makes you feel soomethinmg and has such good bloody action scenes that i love so much. i am a big fan of this show ive only seen 20 episodes but i will watch this show to the end.
