| I didnt know anything about xxxholic while watching this OVA. This OVA was also the reason that I tried the TV series.
While watching the first few min of it, it seemed to be like one of those show with wack presentation like FLCL or Melody of Oblivion.
Near end of the thing, I realised its actually a horror show.
At the end of it, I see it as a heartwarming supernatural show.

| If xxxHOLiC the TV series had only had such nice animation as the movie, it would have been a godsend. The best aspect of Manatsu no Yo no Yume is the animation. As for everything else, well... it is kind of your typical simple story with a very optimistic ending.
For those familiar with xxxHOLiC the series, this is basically the same thing. Yuuko gets a request... of course relating to the spirit world, then we have Watanuki and Doumeki tag along as we get the same antics of Watanuki flying around the screen being chased by spirits and Doumeki silently chasing them away. Most of this movie is basically spent on showing off various parts of the 'mansion' this story takes place in. There really isn't much of a compliated plot nor emotional character developments. Really, it is just a show case of animation, with plenty of first-person perspective chase scenes- but at least it does that well.
The mansion that this movie is set in seems to be modeled after the Winchester Mystery House in California Bay Area. I found this to be a very cool aspect of this movie. The basic concept of this house is that someone is paranoid of spirits in the house, so as a result more and more rooms are built with windows leading to dead ends, doors going up into the roof, and such. There is plenty of weirdness in the room and each time Watanuki opens a door, we get brought into some differently themed room. Basically, the story is: how do I get out of this crazy place?
xxxHOLiC always brings a lot of original and impressing fantasy stuff from different sources. Mixed with nice designs and good animation, this movie is good in terms of short-term enjoyment. I definitely won't remember much of this in the future, but for now... it was a decent watch. Not much substance, but not a total bore.

| Firstly this anime has a series to be released this year. I am not sure about the story. Its confusing, but in the end it does provide jaw dropping graphics and sound. Firstly, thre are things of the story which make poeple detached from this anime, and this is a downpoint but actually fits quite well with the horror/weird story of the anime. Its not bad at all. In fact its quit a nice story to watch.

| Animation is very well done. Graphics are up-to-date and a lot of effort has been put into making the smallest details. Animation could have been 10, but the characters were all unusually lengthy.
Even though sound is clear and audible, and sound effects varied and nicely done, the music part of the sound wasn't the best I've heard. It was just the choice of music and the way it was done that didn't seem to stand out as great. Other than that, sound's good.
This story is one of the lamest and confusing I've seen and heard. I know it's an OVA and that there's a series after this, but this XXXHolic is still very confusing. The story doesn't explain why Watanuki see weird monsters. The events in the mansion are just plain weird, like from a dream. Everything in this anime seems like a dream-scape. A lot of things are introduced and not explained. I hope it is in the TV series.
Since this is a movie, the characters don't develop much. Each character is different at least. But mostly, the main characters aren't well introduced in this movie. I didn't get to know their past or what are their roles in this movie.
XXXHOLiC Manatsu no Yoru no Yume by itself is not a very good anime. It doesn't present anything great. It does present a fantasy world where strange things happen. The main plot of this movie doesn't feel unique, and so, not great. One good point I like to point out is that Watanuki is a funny character. By all means, do not watch this movie by itself, wait until the series come out and then watch everything at once to get a better picture.

A cinema release of a CLAMP movie. What better premise for amazing animation? Truly the animation that is the trademark of CLAMP is perhaps the most amazing thing I've seen so far. If it wasnt for the peculiar character design and body structure that ruins it a little. But the character animation, the environment, the backgrounds, the CGI animation and the various fx, especially near the end make XXXHolic the Movie a masterpiece.
I've read the manga also up to volume 9. The movie is an individual story not featured in the manga yet but despite that it has all the elements that make the manga an interesting read. 2-3 times it has also some scary moments that would surely be more effective had I seen it on cinema.
The cast are Watanuki, Yuko and Doumeki for whom Watanuki always finds a reason to argue, though Doumeki doesnt care.
Himawari also makes a short appearance in the first minutes. But Yuko, the Dimensional Witch is the best character here. Truly like the manga. Also those who've seen Tsubasa Chronicle will not remain dissatisfied in the end.
If you havent read the manga you can watch this as a decent supernatural-horror anime with a creepy atmosphere and a nice ending. The bizarre is what characterizes XXXHolic. Though here the viewer doesnt get the typical ''a wish for something in exchange'' as in the manga, the action that takes place in the manga is adapted here with amazing animation.
One of the good titles of 2005.
