Overall, I have found this series to be quite enjoyable. I am somewhat biased in this, however. I am a huge fan of vampire stories, and for some time I have been fascinated with Catholicism. This anime is literally the perfect blending of the two. For the most part, the story was fascinating as it blended the two worlds of man/vampire and blended the religious implications in with each. Part of what made me like it so much is the innocense of the Pope in the anime. He's quite a touching character. The character designs are flawless, and the sound track supports the mood throughout. If you are looking for a great take on the vampire mythos, I would highly recommend Trinity Blood. (p.s. if you can find the box set, it is well worth the price tag)

TB is one of the best vampire shows I've ever seen!! I would put it right behind Hellsing and Shingetsutan Tsukihime. There are some flaws with this show but overall i would definitely recommend this anime to anyone who enjoys action and violence (this show is about vampires so you can definitely expect the GORE to be OVER THE TOP)!!

Well 2005-2006 was year of the vampires. We have blood+, Blood black brothers, and now trinity blood. And I have to say this is the worse among the 3. blood+ balanced action story, black brothers all action, and in this too much politics.

Trinity Blood is a pretty impressive anime overall. Its story (any alot of its concepts) is structured much like Trigun. For the first half of the show, the central plot line develops slowly, and the series focuses on episodic conflicts. At around the 1/2 way point, the plot starts kicking in.

The central plot line is interesting and thoroughly dramatic for the most part. The last couple of episodes introduce new characters and elements that are too little too late. The viewer gets no grasp of the characters because of their tiny bit of screen time and even tinier bit of of dialogue/monologues. The rest of the story is centered around political unrest, prevention of war, etc.

Trinity Blood's drama is pretty simple. The characters are put in situations where they have to choose between things that are important to them, i.e. their own life, or taking their friend's life. A promise they made a long time ago or an innocent life, etc. Classical anime stuff. It seems to draw at least a little from shakespearean tragedies.

Overall, the tear jerkers still manage to work because it's rarely overstated. There's not much yelling going on in most dramatic scenes. The story unfolds itself and the characters emotions never seem forced (even if the scenarios themselves do).

The musical score also helps these scenes work. The score as a whole is great, including the opening and ending themes. While i wouldn't listen to it all the time, it fits well. There is one track, often played during tragic scenes, that is seriously perfect. It sounds like pure lamenting, or mourning.

One minor problem with The scene direction in Trinity Blood is the overuse of a fade away kind of technique during crucial scenes. When something exciting is about to happen, perhaps, a character is about to be killed, the murderer slowly, very slowly, raises the weapon, and says something like "prepare to die." Just as he pulls the trigger, the camera swings up real quick, or fades to black, or does some other thing that makes it so you can't see what happened. 5 or 6 seconds later, you see that someone jumped in front of the character to protect him, or someone shot the villain first, or perhaps the character actually got shot. You'll notice that this camera technique is used all over the place, dare i say, shamelessly, and it starts cheapening the scenes it is used in.

While none of the characters are unbearably corny, I find it strange that some of them aren't even characterized, all the way up until the end. Mainly, Abel, and all the villains will never be grasped by viewers. Sure we know Abel is goofy and compassionate, but he never does anything that makes him feel whole. None of his characteristics are put into focus, explored, and you end up with an empty main character. On the other hand, some of the side characters are pretty interesting, and well established. Esther and the Duke of Memphis for example, are both blossomed characters. They're in no way deep, but the viewer will get to know them, unlike Abel or the villains.

Trinity Blood's ending is quite abrupt. It's clearly setting up for a sequel. I don't really mind that much, but I will say it's poorly executed, as there is no resolution (literally no resolution, you don't even see the result of the climactic battle), and not even the slightest bit of closure. I do prefer unresolved endings to overly wordy and explanitory ones though.

Trinity Blood is a wonderful story filled with complex and varied characters who follow a sophisticated plot.
The protagonist is Abel Nightroad, a priest of the Vatican in a fight to maintain peace between the Vatican-ruled lands (Western Europe) and the Vampire-ruled Empire (Eastern Europe and Middle East). He is silly, scatter-brained, and very sensitive, but he is also a Cruznik, a higher race of vampires who feeds on regular vampires. He wields an intricate scythe, conjuring the traditional image of Death. He is joined in his quest by Estelle, a young woman torn between her own message of peace and a desire for revenge. Later, she encounters a little charismatic noble of the Vampire realm and has to choose between admitting him into her life or pushing him away because of his nature.
Though it takes place in a post-Armageddon world, the struggle between two Empires (Holy Roman Empire vs. Ottoman Empire???) takes the characters all over the continent, showing unspeakable amounts of historical settings such as Barcelona, Rome, London, Budapest, and other major European cities.

Trinity Blood is ... a lot like many series but also not. Not making sense? Well, you will find lots of similarities (Most obviously are the Trigun and Hellsing references) but also lots of contradictions to your previous comparisons.

Well, back in Order:

Animation:
It was done by Gonzo, any questions? As expected the 3D-effects are great, the Characters are great, the landscapes are great and about everything else. Except for the slips they make over and over again. Some birds appear far too obviously 2-Dimensional and there is some jump in the digital department after the second episode, meaning the first two weren't that extremely top notch as the rest (but still better than most effects from other studios).
Overall: Incredible, might make blind people see.

Sound:
Not much to be said about the sound except for that it fits perfectly into the scenes and atmospheres. Most of the times one doesn't even consciously percieve it.
The voices are good to great, where especially Abel excells.
The Ending fits perfectly underlining in most times the mood you were left in at the end of the Episode. While the Opening fetched me really hard, to the point of me being able to sing it without text or song. (Kagamino maede, kimi to ...)
Overall: Great soundtrack except for several minor glitches.

Story:
The story is fascinating. Every Episode seems to be a standalone-Episode on the first look, but if you pay enough attention to the detail (and are able to memorize it) you will realize several threads going through the story. Much of the story can be understood and almost all mysteries can be solved with enough attention and thinking. This leads to the fact that one can enjoy a complex story - or just a "Quicky" with the same anime.
Overall: Nice Story, but not graspable for people not paying close attention.

Character:
Except for the major slip with Abel in the first two episodes the characterdesign is constantly excellent. I especially enjoyed that one gets to know plenty of details for almost any sidecharacter known by name (and that those are in most cases somehow connected to the main storyline). One can reach into the Back room of some characters soul - but as with the story this is only possible for those keeping stern attention on all the details.
Overall: Great characters but a major mistake with the main character.

Value:
It is a great anime to kill some time (one can even choose a random episode and won't have to remember more than the rough details on the Storyline) that with his easy accessibility to what's roughly going on and with all the well hidden details and hints can be re-watched over and over again. Popcorn goes well with it as does wine and an occasional break to play a game of chess.
Overall: Great to kill some time without and with thinking.

Enjoyment:
Factoring all the above points make this one of the top-Ranking Animes. Trinity Blood is funny, serious, tragic and mysterious as well.
Suitable for: Almost averyone
not suitable for: All with fear of: SciFi, Fantasy and especially: Action. Oh, and Children below the age of 14 (imo)

Trinity Blood is a 24 episode long decent anime from Gonzo with major flaws in its character development.

I was not satisfied by the animation of Trinity Blood. Some scenes seemed far too bright while others were too dark, and the overall use of colours just wasn't quite right. Apart from that, some scenes had great contrast in detail, for example, the foreground would look no where near as sharp as the background.

The music and sounds in Trinity Blood are sufficiently good throughout. However, there was a particular episode which lacked immensely in this department. Other than that, there was nothing sound wise that captured my attention.

The storyline of Trinity Blood could have been good, had the character flaw not been there. Because of that, the general storyline of the anime was pretty much ruined. However, several individual episodes are still pretty interesting to watch. The ending is confusing and seems to be extremely open ended: I suspect that a sequel will be coming out which might explain the overall storyline better.

The major flaw in Trinity Blood is its inconsistent character development. Some uninteresting side characters are developed too much while several interesting and more important characters are barely developed at all. I for one still have no idea as to who the main villain or villains of this anime are, and as to how some characters suddenly seem to have gained unexplained abilities. In fact, I don't even know why the main character is doing all the things he is doing throughout the anime.

I suppose Trinity Blood is extremely rewatchable due to poor character development and hence storyline. Nevertheless, apart from enjoying the few individual episodes which had consistent quality throughout, I didn't really get into the mood of this anime.

Trinity Blood is a lot like Hellsing in that it's a series about vampires and in that it's an incredible waste of potential when it comes to the story and the characters. This series only real strong point is the graphical splendor.
The series suffers greatly from an incoherent story, hopping from insignificant sub-plot to sub-plot without really building on the characters.
The ending, besides an unexpected revelation, doesn't make much sense whatsoever and leaves you with the feeling that you've seen 13 random episodes of a 26 eps long series, even if that's not the case.
That said, the series is probably a lot more enjoyable if you don't expect the story to make sense beforehand. Worth a try, at least.

> OVERALL

I started watching Trinity Blood as it played on [AS] this September, and unfortunately I have not finished watching it yet, though I have every intention to finish. The only reason why I am breaking my own rule of "watch it ALL and then review" is because my perspective on the series differs greatly in certain aspects from that of most other reviewers.

From the intriguing previews, I could tell, as many others have noted, that the animation would be very nice. I wasn't disappointed there. So far, it's very pleasant to watch, minus a couple very small nitpicks. I'll address those in a bit.

Overall, everything is good. It's great in some places, and a bit less than both in others, but it's still very interesting to watch. Having seen every episode several times, I'm noting hints and plot threads that weren't as apparent before, things that tie the series together much better than I first thought. I can only hope that through those, we receive some kind of resolution before the close of episode 24.

All in all, Trinity Blood is very attractive to see and to hear. The characters, though similar to some others, stand by themselves very well. I hope to see a bit more development and explanation, but I don't expect it to me blatantly obvious. Most of what I've seen so far was pretty subtle.

When watching, try to disregard others' opinions and seek your own. A lot of people say that it was very hard to follow at some points, but if you watch closely, most things are tied together. The characters are as deep and individual as an openminded viewer is willing to see, and the enjoyment can skyrocket if one is not actively searching for mistakes.

Most importantly, keep an open mind and a sharp eye while watching. You might be surprised to find that Trinity Blood is pretty enjoyable.

> ANIMATION

As expected, it is extremely well-done. The cities and towns are beautiful and leave an imprint on a viewer's mind. Water, light, texture, color... everything is very impressive. A lot of the time, I found myself gaping at the screen because of the beauty. Not only are the buildings done well, but nature is portrayed beautifully. Sunsets, plant life, and seascapes are all easy on the eyes.

The characters fit surprisingly well with the background. Like Ghost in the Shell, sometimes the background animation seems just a bit superior to the character art, but I didn't find too many instances of this. The character designs in themselves are pretty varied, though a lot of them have a sort of religious look to them (lots of crosses). The actual characters are pretty good. There are bunches of bishies, but I'm not complaining.

The only reason I gave animation a nine rather than a solid ten is because of the doves.

Okay. That probably made no sense at all. If you think back, though, you might remember doves flocking away from the scene at certain parts in episodes two and three. From far away, they're beautiful, but when it gives a closeup of one or two of them, it's kind of jarring. They look a bit like paper bags with life breathed into them. Or maybe that's a bit harsh. To me, the coloring just seemed a bit off.

Curse those doves.

> SOUND

The sound: top notch. I'm okay with the intro, but the ending cinches it for me. Absolutely beautiful. The sound effects are good, too. More often than not, the nice effects made watching Trinity Blood all the more pleasant. I like the English voice-acting. The voices fit the characters.

Abel's can be unbearably silly one moment, then comforting and persuasive the next, and before you know it, he's as cold and serious as a brick wall. At first, his appearance didn't seem to match with the voice given to him in the dub, but after just a moment I knew why it was chosen.

Esther's is nice, as well. Colleen Clinkenbeard—funny name but lots of talent—also played Rose in Fullmetal Alchemist, and the similarities in character and in voice are apparent. She does a good job of portraying emotion.

I was surprised by Tres' voice for some reason. I was expecting something softer, but it's understandable and I've come to love it.

Not much else has stood out so far, good or bad. The voice acting is definitely top-notch.

> STORY

So far? I've only seen up to episode nine, so perhaps I'll get back to you on that one. The episodes I've seen until now have seemed a bit fragmented, with a few threads lingering in the background to tie them together, but from what I've heard, a lot of them are picked up.

It's not the best story I've ever seen by far, but it's not the worst. It's been done before in certain ways, but little twists and an interesting atmosphere give Trinity Blood a very unique flavor.

Usually I like more subtle, unique, and surprising storylines, and this one has been pretty straightforward in most aspects, but I'm still loving it. the characters and their interaction is sometimes riveting and sometimes adorable.

Each episode is almost stand-alone. There are some pretty huge cliffhangers, but a positive point of the series is that each episode has a definite, beginning, middle and end. Each builds tension up to a climax pretty well, which makes individual episodes okay for rewatching without having to worry about too many others.

No serious complaints here. Different people may see different things in this story.

> CHARACTERS

The characters are okay. Obviously, there are endless parallels to other anime—most notably Trigun, with the Abel/Vash comparison—but for some reason, even after suffering through rather obvious cliches and story arcs I've seen played through many times before, I'm still watching.

Does that mean I'm just stubborn? I would say so, but doing that would take credit away from the overall attraction of the series. Despite everything, it's kept me holding on.

I guess it would be right to say that cliches don't bother me too much. The world has been around for so long that every single twist in a story, every single turn, has been done a billion times before, and then some. Characters from one show will invariably match up with characters from somewhere else, and while this is a bit more obvious in Trinity Blood, I don't mind it too much. It's best to forget the parallels and enjoy it for what it is.

Personally, I like the characters a lot, especially Abel. Fortunately, there are a few things that keep him from being too closely related to Vash in terms of character, and that helps, too.

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what these characters do in the future.

> VALUE / ENJOYMENT

Entertainment value? Very, very high! Enjoyment? High as well.

If you're looking for deep philisophical revelations or thought-provoking, complex storylines...not so much.

This is a drama, and that is reflected in the fact that the episodes aren't jam-packed with fighting. All blood and gore is pretty well-placed, sparse enough to be satisfying rather than, "Oh, someone got beat up again."

Like everything in the world, there are things not quite perfect about this show, but Trinity Blood is holding me rapt for now. When I'm finished, I may have a different opinion, and I'll edit this if I do, but for now, almost halfway through, I'm okay with it.

I'd definitely reccomend it to someone looking for a show to pass the time.

It all came tumbling down...

Trinity Blood has a lot of interesting types of conflicts: religious, political, racial etc...but unfortunately no good characters are there to back this enticing plot up.

The major weakness of Trinity Blood would be the characters. There are many serious issues being explored in the anime, but the characters screw up everything because of the EXTREMELY uneven amount of screentime. If a storyline is to deal with political and religio-intrigue, then there has to be a group of equally complex characters to enhance the complex storyline. Not only do the Trinity Blood characters fall very short of characterization, most of the screentime is given to Abel and Esther. I think there is a huge problem with this because neither of these characters are likeable and they are both unintelligent (how did they ever survive?).

My criticisms for making Abel and Esther include the fact that there are many other more interesting characters out there, including other members of AX, Dietrich (sp?), the Pope or Catherina (sp?) Sforza. The anime completely ignored these characters' interesting stories and backgrounds and chose to focus too much on Abel and Esther (even after they have run out of things to say about them). Why? It just HAD to be the two most pathetic characters. Trinity Blood tries to establish this serious and highly sensitive world that is tense and volatile. Abel sticks out from this world like a sore thumb because he acts like a moron and behaves inappropriately, which destroys the anime's mood entirely. I do not like Esther in a different way, because I just find her so useless. Her role in the anime was ONLY female lead. Nothing else. And she wasn't even a good female lead at that.

Character design was very well done, especially for the AX members. I thought that Dietrich had a very sly face that suited his role, while Catherina Sforza had a very stern facade and imposing features that conveyed her authority (her huge hat was cool). I liked the characters' clothes a lot, especially the uniforms of the AX members, because it granted the characters a sense of cohesion and unity.
Major complaint about character design: Esther's super-huge eyes that made her look like an insect (for real).

The storyline of Trinity Blood was promising. It was backed with some historical references to famous people (such as Wordsworth) or to familiar places (like Vatican City) that add to the realism of the world they've created.

I find that Trinity Blood managed a good balance between dialogue and action, therefore the storyline flowed at a good speed. The plot was not very complicated, though, as most of the things that happen in the anime could be foreseen. The worst part of the storyline must be the ending. Like many other viewers, I also believe that the ending was very inconclusive and empty, and it did not satisfy me. Likewise, there is another problem with character screentime in the storyline as the main antagonist appears very little (only towards the end) with all motivations unexplained. It seemed like they were in a hurry to end the anime or something and they made a mess of the ending.

Sound has got to be one of the best parts of Trinity Blood! The OP and ED song were wonderful, and very pleasant to listen to (over and over again). The bgm was very soothing at times and aggravating other times, but most importantly it created a mood of tension and a feeling of the pressures of religio-strife. Voice acting was good, and I especially liked Radu's and Tres' voices.

The conclusion to this review is very simple. Trinity Blood was destroyed by the characters (lack of characterization and too much focus on the two worst characters). The 'enjoyment' score would've been much higher otherwise.

this anime had potential to be a great all timer but it just manages to screw up in every aspect.

another vampire anime, basically humans vs vampire, theres the vatician which is the main human force vs the empire lead by vampires, and theres a 3rd party call the orden which basically only point in the story is to frame the vampires or humans into killing each other and starting a full scale war between them. now that sounds like a simple plot but this is where its gets tricky and confusing and ridicoulous

first off the episode transistions from one and another is totally fubar (f'ed up beyond all repair) for example, you'll have one the main character, father abel nightroad, quittin the vaticians special forces AX then getting into a fight at the end of the episode where he protects the cardinal and i think he like dies? or gets really hurt? well you dont really freakin know cause the episode cuts off and the next episode begins with father abel nightroad on a mission with a vampire from the empire, so basically the audience has to assume that this fool surivived the massive onslaught attack from the previous episode, all order is restored, and he has rejoined AX.

with the lousy episode transistion, the story line gets f'ed up, and you dont get a feel for character development,
also in addition father abel nightroad is called a "crusnik" supposedly a vampire eating vampire being and to kick things off hes like vash from trigun, a wimpy passivist who refuses to kill but has some kick ass power when pissed off or pushed in a corner, and in both cases they have a reason for no killing, they made promises to some person they cared about, but in this case you dont even get to hear the reason why he doesnt kill people, and the person he made the promise with, you only see flashes of her throughout the anime and at the last episode and even that doesnt explain much.

character development is totally weak, the pope is depicted as a weak boy that cries at every little thing, some AX members dont get enough air time to know what there powers are, or motives, goals etc, you dont know who the main enemy is behind the curtains (ie. the orden) untill the last like 3 episodes and thats not enough time to understand who the hell he is, why abel has to kill him etc.

id recommend this anime to only people who are fascinated with vampire related animes, big breasted nuns, people who dont give a crap about story or character development just things gettin blown to pieces and things going boom.

cause in the end your just left hanging, wtf really is a crusnik, why was there dispute among the crusniks? what was abels promise?wth is this anime about? etc, its just a major headache and waste of time imo.

Despite all its shortcomings,I managed to enjoy this anime throughly.Like the others had mentioned, animation was certainly the most outstanding aspect of the anime. As expected from GONZO,the anime was equiped with detailed artwork and awesome CGs.The beautiful character designs were eye-candies too.The musics played throughout the anime were also a perfect match for the dark and mysterious atmosphere of the anime.I especially love the gloomy yet far-from-dull OP and the more sentimental ED.

The concept of the plot was really captivating. The introduction of beings known as Crusnik was very refreshing, very original. The fact that the story was being told in a rather typical way didn't bother me that much. But the anime could be a much longer one and there wasn't enough details given on the history of the Crusniks, not to mention the intentions and ambitions of the characters. It seems like we only watch them fight, but we don't really understand why they are fighting. This happened especially to the villains. The characters on the other hand were a pleasure to watch.I don't find any annoying or useless characters here like I did in other anime.Overall,I was fairly satisfied with all the characters introduced. However, too little emphasize was given to the developement of the characters. Some characters were just forgotten before their stories even began.

The ending is nothing like a conclusion. In fact, the ending seems like a beginning of another adventure. Many questions were left unanswered.Nevetheless, this is a descent anime. Its not the best, but its not bad either.Fans of the fantasy, action and drama genre should really give this a try.Plus, the impressive gothic fashion and architecture are a bonus too.

A lot of potential, fell tremendously short. That just about sums up the series. Despite the stunning animation and superb soundtrack, the story drags down the entire anime. For animation freaks, this will be an eye-popping experience. For those who watch for the storyline and prefer proper closure, avoid this one at all costs.

Animation:
Breathtaking. Very good animation on characters and backgrounds. Without a doubt the strongest aspect of this anime. All the characters were detailed and attired in well-designed costumes. And all the cities were stunning. The CG animation helped as well. To sum it up, it's an eye-pleasing feast.

Sound:
Excellent musical score. The emotional scenes were accompanied with soft, piano instrumentals while the battle scenes had fast-paced music. The ED was very nice. Top marks for this department as well.

Story:
Now, this is where the problem starts. The story had tremendous potential. Who doesn't like secret organizations that hunts down vampires? The setting, with two empires (Vatican, Empire) had very appealing aspects and provided for an extremely promising story. These potentials were never fulfilled. Primarily, the beginning is quite slow. Frequent build-up episodes and occasional fillers were annoying. Once it picks up, the pace accelerates only to crash at the end. The main arc starts very late and the main antagonist makes his first real appearance on episode 21. In a 24 episodes series, I don't believe 3 episodes are quite long enough to tell a story. Now this is the worst element of story: the ending. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO CLOSURE. Unless GONZO plans to fill in the numerous plot holes in a movie or a sequel, this is mark the downfall of this anime. Nothing is explained. No background history of these characters. The worst thing is that there are glimpses of these background stories but are never explored. This leads to a lot of frustration and anger by the end of the anime. Hopefully, GONZO will give it a proper closure with a follow-up.

Characters:
Another disappointment. I knew this anime was a conglomeration of many other animes but this was just too much. Abel is a carbon-copy of Vash from Trigun and the same could be said of Esther with the main protagonist of Chrno Crusade. Seems like recycled ideas. This leads to very bland characterization. Furthermore, the motives or any personal history are never explained.

Value:
I don't place much value on this anime. Unless a sequel is released, this is not worth buying.

Enjoyment:
Although the improper ending and slow build up pissed me off, I was able to somewhat enjoy the anime. I guess I just can't resist the idea of clandestine Christian organization fighting against all forms of evil. Vague and indefinite closure was the cause for the two-point knock-down.

Overall, this anime is hodgepodge of various anime (Trigun, Chrno Crusade). Although it may look appealing, it disappoints. Lastly, if you want a proper ending, don't watch this series.

This anime had tremendous potential. However, it is hard to score it well because of the fact that it didn't live up to its own potential.

The animation was amazing: the CG assisted battles and realistic looking character models were all very enjoyable to see. Abel's transformations into Crusnik form are especially enjoyable.

The soundtrack was good: I enjoyed the OP/EDs and the background music really got me into the flow of the story, so I liked it.

Now, onto the story. This is one area where the anime reaches for the stars, but seemingly forgets to grab them. The story has everything you could ask for: political intrigue, an interesting setting with multiple kingdoms ruled by different factions, a secret organization, a dash of romance, friends made, betrayals occur, and lots of conflict and mystery. However, the series seemed to forget something very important: a resolution.

Indeed, this series leaves you with more questions than answers; in fact it leaves you pretty much no answers at all. I wish I could give this anime a higher story rating, because I truly enjoyed the story elements in the series, but without a resolution it is hard to rate it highly. Not to mention the lack of background for much of the characters and organizations.

The characters in this story are all very interesting, especially characters like Seth and Abel. However, there is a true lack of background given for them, and we are left with many questions surrounding the motivations behind their actions. Why did Abel make a promise to not kill? How did Cain, Abel, and Seth have a falling-out? Who is the woman in the coffin at the end? Why is she in there? What were the vampires and crusniks created for? How did the vampires come to be in control of an Empire? Why do the Cardinals Medici and Sfonza feel the way they each do about vampire-human relations? This is only a small sampling of the questions we are left with regarding the characters and the plot. So, once again while I wish I could give a higher rating to the characers, who I really enjoyed, they just failed to live up to their potential.

This anime doesn't have much value as of yet: it is fun to rewatch it, but rewatching it just reminds you of the lack of resolution to this anime. It is just begging for a sequel.

If this anime did eventually continue, and the loose ends were tied up, I believe this could become a great anime. But, as it stands now, this series feels incomplete.

However, despite the incompleteness and lack of resolution of this series I really enjoyed it. I can only hope a sequel is eventually made.

A dark world of the future, where do the humans struggle in fighting vampires, who call themselves methuselahs. The war wages, the human empire controled by the Pope and infulenced by Christianity is trying to repel the treaterous invaders, who seem to be aliens or beings from another dimension. Then the sly group of people appears, calling themselves Rosencrauz Orden, Contra Mundi, the enemies of the world. They heaten the war by their very appearance, working in favor for either humans or methuselahs, but ultimately for their own, unknown plans. A lot of names, for either organisations or locations are spelled in german, latyn or other languages. The whole world looks fantastic, with the war going, humanity striving to survive and the main character who's kind of funny, but strong and mysterious.

It seems nothing can go wrong anymore, right? Anything with such premise would instantly shoot to the heights of being one of the best animes ever, right? It's impossible to screw anything what happens in a such fantasic world, right? But don't worry, there is but one, impoderable factor here and you might as well know it, it's GONZO. When I was watching this anime I was recalling an old tale about a person who wanted that everything he would touch would become gold, of course the ability to turn everything into gold brang more problems than advantages to him, since he couldn't touch any people or food. Well, anyway, it seems GONZO has a similar ability, everything they touch becomes shit. And it seems that in these times shit is more useful than gold, since these fat bastards create more and more high budget brainless anime, which in turn creates more and more brainless fanboys.

As you could have understood already, they managed to screw this up. They introduced a lot of characters, who later turned up to be no more than cardboards. They introduced an interesting main character, with an even more interesting past, yet they didn't show anything more than a 1 minute length flashback of it, showing nearly nothing in particular. At the beggining the story is full of fillers, and you bet, they are the highlights of the series, there is always a bad guy and the good guy kicks his ass in a cocky and spectucalar way, kind of reminding me of Hellsing. Yet after the show progresses and the real story starts to go on, it all falls apart. Irrational and ilogical plot twists, ilogical character development, no explanations about the past, furthermore, no good guys ever die, it was so predictible that I had tears of anger in my eyes in later episodes. The most idiotical plot twist was when one particular character suddenly turned up to be the kingdom heir out of the blue, with the crapiest explanation I've heard in my entire life.

Even though this and Last Exile is superficially different, since one is about vampires and humans fighting each other and the other is about two pilots, who don't do anything at all and bore you to death, in a world were humans are fighting some aliens, I thought that they resemble each other. Both animes have insane plot twists, pathetic character development and a terrible lack of explanations, while being carried out in a nearly fantastic and promising world. My recommendation only go to people who actually liked Last Exile. If you don't care about logic, rationality or inteligence at all, then this is your candy, mindless fighting in a spectacular world, that's what Trinity Blood is. Kind of makes me wonder if GONZO worked on previous titles like Dragon Ball Z or Pokemons before...

After watching this anime, I am really dissappointed, maybe because I have high expectation for this anime. Nevertheless, the animation is what really keep me going. Everything and Everyone is so beautiful. The best animation I have seen so far.
Weird ending, lack of character development, and pointless scene really made this anime bad.

The worse ending ever in an anime series. Don't expect any answers to anything. Probably, the entire case for this anime get tire so they put together a 5 minutes ending.

I gotta admit, I've had this for a while but haven't watched it till recently. Part is this is due to the negative reviews on the story. I can kinda see why, but it's more because it just seems incomplete, it starts off in what I think was the middle of the storyline...

After watching it, animation was great, music matched well, I will say that there definitely needs to be more character development, but it does set the stage for a prequel / sequel.

This series just throws you into the mix of things without giving any historical info... Characters were all deeper than they appeared to be. There was no strictly bad guy... you always sensed a reason for it, but it's never given to you. Abel for instance... why does he try so hard to be carefree and somewhat aloof?

I really hoped for flashbacks and explanations of what the relationship of "Methuselahs" and "Crusniks" are... why is Abel a Vampire that preys on Vampires... but doesn't want to kill... why did he make a promise not to do it.

This series is begging for a prequel... a much more serious one that gives us the history of Cain, Abel, Seth and Lillith... one that tells of Armageddon... ahhhh... at least a movie!!!

Overall, I liked the characters... and now, I want to know more about them. Why they are who they are, and what will become of them and the world they live in.

I still do not get the idea why everyone is trashing this series. I guess the poignant thing to note about those who trashed this series was with regard to the plot of the series. I'll come to that later. Overall, I think this series is really good technically, but really, it would be a classic if not for the apparant lapses in plotlines and the fact that Gonzo is leaving the door wide open for a sequel.

The animation was really good, no complaints at all. While there were points where I went LOL near the end because the people and soldiers were moving so weirdly, overall, both the illustrations and their movements were very smooth. the background designs was really breathtaking, and realistic. The fight scenes was only average, however. Kind of expected more, but I guess the I got too carried away by the excellent background CGs.

Sound was excellent too. While I didn't really like the OP because of the person singing it (a guy), the tune was ok. Same for the ED. The music accompainment for the ED was really fantastic, the lyrics were fantastic too, but the singer just had too much accent while singing, and that really spoilt the song. Overall, the music was also excellent, and complemented the various scenes well. As for the seiyuus, it was near faultless too, I cannot think of any voice that sounded out of sync with the character portrayed, though I have to say that all the Rosenkreuz Orden people sound suspiciously similar. Even then, its really, quite acceptable.

We come to the main flaws of the series: Story/Plot and Character Development. I really have to agree with the critics that the story really has loopholes. For example, the start mentioned the sudden appearance of the Methuselahs, which was never addressed. In addition, the past of Abel/Cain/Seth was never really explored, which would definitely enrich the story. 24 episodes is definitely sufficient to explore such backgrounds, after all, some episodes really could be glossed over. Still, it is unmistakably obvious that the scriptwriters were evidently trying to state a point. The setting of the series alludes to the Cold War, especially in Europe, while the talk of religious differences/terrorism seemed to portray their take on the situation, which is definitely true. If the suggested changes to the plot was added in too, I guess the plot would really, really rock. While the past history of the critical characters was not explored, however, the interpersonal relationships between almost all the characters was done really, really well. My only regret was that the romance between Abela nd Esther never really took off, but that would be an indulgence and wouldn't really fit into the story that well, admittedly.

Value? Definitely worth a re-watch. I'll definitely catch the sequel, if there is any.

Before I end my review, I have to say that really, to enjoy this series (or any other anime series for that matter), you should put aside all opinions heard/read. I've thoroughly enjoyed this series, even though the plot was slightly frustrating at times, and would defnitely be there amongst the top 20-50.

Animation:
In one word: Spectacular. Starting off with beautiful character designs, they incorporate computer technology, with breathtaking and wonderfully drawn settings, to emmerse the viewers into their world so alike and yet different from our world.

The animation is the main factor that got me through the series.

I say...just watch the anime for the animation.
---------------------------
Music:
The opening and ending music was so compelling (along with the correlating animation); 'tis another factor of few that i looked forward to in the next episode. The anime's OST by Eguchi Takahito, is like no other of it's kind. Period. Listen to it.

I usually don't notice the (bg) sounds in the anime, but the whirrings and clankings of machines, the buzz of the crowd, all the subtle sounds in the anime just astounded me. Hail, to the new advancement of technology and anime.

The voice actors did a great job (though i did wonder if they were doing double roles). But I ESPECIALLY loved the voice of the Count of Memphis. (personal preference, of course...don't know why though)
---------------------------
Story:
Yes. This is one of the biggest let downs in this anime, if not out of all anime. First, the story literally sqeezes tears of boredom out of you through half the series, then when they finally reveal the GOOD and REAL plot, the ending leaves you RIGHT BACK WHERE YOU BEGAN, therefore leaving the anime's essence wallowing in the dirt. And oh yeah, they introduce the story's antagonist 3 EPS BEFORE the ENDING. YEP. I seriously say that they cut out the first 10 eps, and attach new ones to the ending, because the current story has the plot cut off halfway. Total disappointment.
Well, the historical parody and vampire twist is something to look forward to.
---------------------------
Characters:
I love the characters (although it may be for their looks, their voice; and they are rather annoying sometimes), I still love them. I thought it was very clever of the producers/manga-ka to name them the way they did.

Some are very nicely developed, and others are underdeveloped. Since the story is so jumbled, the characters don't have a place to fit in comfortably.

This portion, though, is bearable.
---------------------------
Value:
As for me, I'm definately going to rewatch it. The anime is very cleverly done in many aspects, so I would like to search for those historical parodies, and subtle allusions, and whatnot. I recommend that downloading the AnimeForever/Revquest subtitles, for they do an excellent job of telling you these historical facts. If you are a big social studies/historical person, this anime may be good for you (as I am not, I still loved this anime).
---------------------------
OVERALL:
The first 10 or so episodes are the most drawn-out, tedius, boring, and aggrivating episodes ever. (It took so long for me to finish the 24 eps) As I said, the ending songs and the wonderful (not to mention hott and beautiful) character designs and music were the only thing that got me into the next episode. AT FIRST.

Then they INTRODUCE the REAL plot and REAL characters, and the anime gets very fast-paced and exciting...to a certain extent.

With the symbolisms and allsions to history and the bible, the awesome animation, the wonderful characters....The anime had so much POTENTIAL, which was lost due to hastly done storyboards, and LOTs of loose ends.

I don't say that it's a total let down, just disappointing to see a would-be all-around exelling anime go to waste. You'll leave saying "a great ride, but i didn't get anything out of it."

(And I still rant on about the story, argh! It could've been so much more! grr....)

When I began watching this anime, I really thought this anime will reserve itself to some lame Hellsing clone. Now that I've watched the whole thing thtough, I'm glad I did.

What an ambitious and epic series!!! I don't think i've seen another of this scale since Last Exile and before that Vision of Escaflowne. Vampire animes usually reserve themselves to mystery and supernatural genre, Gonzo decide to so what they are best at: buttkicking epic. Add to this some of the most interesting approach to vampire genre, you've got a true winner.

Gonzo always make something that's feast for the eye. Last I finished Gankutsuo and I thought that was amazing. this anime, though in style very different, have truly astounding animation. CG incorporation to this anime is absolutelly flawless and the coloring is absolutely exquite to fit the every aspect of this anime. Character designs are stylish and orginal. We don't have that every character same face with different hair here. custom design for Vatican and Empire truly is inspired. Speaking of inspired their city design is something I would expect in star wars. It's epic scale and detail design is something that you will not find in other anime expect for let say Gankutsuo. Action scene are well choreographed for the most part, but they were usually short, which was a bit disappointing.

Combine this with some of the best backgorund music I've ever heard, you have a series with one of the most fantastic presentational value. the music is amazing throughout! One of those midi/crappy background music. It's epic when it has to, and at time its so sentitive to the expression on the characters faces. just incredible.

The story also rivals the presentation in its value. The conflict between Vatican and the Empire is well set up for the most part, and the Orden's activity ties into the whole general scheme very well.

The story is more tragic than what one might think. As you will see this anime will take you on a quite a roller coaster ride esecially towards the end. relationship btw characters really becomes the impetus for this.

The story essentially is about two different kinds of people who cannot understand eachother to a point of hatred. They are both to a large part slaves of false perceptions and stereotypes. I think out generation have much to relate to if I may add.

There are people who try to eliminate each other and others who seek for compromise. this is where characters really shine because for a large cast all the charqacters get their spot light soon or later except for more unimportant ones. From abel who is totured by the past we do not know, to weak, shy, too kind for his own good Pope, We have some very diverse characters that Gonzo work with here. The chemistry between characters are also fairly good. I especially liked how Brother Petro acted in many situations.

But in and in all, this anime bites more than in can chew. Perhaps this anime would've been better if they didn't not waste so much time in the beginning (about episode 1 to 10 or so). Character background is necessary but filler are not. there are just too much lingering in the first 10 episodes or so to slow down the pace. this contributes to rushing and very inconclusive ending.

this anime sitll leaves too many questions. What exactly is Orden? What about Abel's past? Krusnik? what are they? Mars colonization? thing are thrown out and never explained which leaves a bit of a bitter feeling at the end.

Even with all its flaw this anime is dramatic, tragic, funny, gory, exciting, and a lot more. I really think this is one of the best Vampires I've seen along with classic hellsing. If you like epic animes you can not miss this. Though it falls a bit short This anime have the making of a true classic.
