The continuation of the first season of Rozen Maiden. We still have our lovable dolls and two new ones. With these two new dolls introduced all seven of the Rozen Maiden have assembled. The beginning and the end of the Alice Game has finally come. Here we will continue to see comedy moments and drama moments. Both playing important roles into the story.

This time we continue with the aftermath of the battle from Shinku and Suigintou. After that battle Shinku is in doubt. She decides to longer fight in the Alice Game. She isn't the only in doubt as well. Others don't know what to do since they cannot fight against their sisters. Some believe they have no choice but to fight since it's their fate. However when 2nd doll Kanaria and the seventh doll Barasuishou the games start. This time there will be tragedies and sadness within the Rozen Maiden's and Jun's hearts. The main villain who brings these unfortunate events is the seventh doll Barasuishou. Not a very cool doll, just a pure evil minded girl just as Suigintou.

Now we still have our supernatural powers still. Each doll has its own character which gives each of them their own kind of power. Such as controlling rose petals, strawberry vines, black feathers, crystal, plants, and sound. These kinds of elements give the battle scenes topnotch action.

What makes the story good is how they manipulate the scenes. By having fun moments and tragic moments. Each playing their roles at the right time. When there's doubt or someone is troubled we get these fun, laughing comedy scenes. However after these events that's when tragedy strikes.

Animation
Still the same which is great. I really don't have to compare now do I. Still to me I can look at the Rozen Maidens who look like dolls yet human at the same time. Still love that. The battle scenes at the last two episodes were really great. Actually all of the battle scenes were great. I mean the pace went very smoothly.

Sound
OP theme still good. It has the same feeling from the first season. I mean the tone especially. The message is still great. Now for some characters voice especially the new characters I got to say strange. I mean the one in the hospital she looks very mature however has a squeaky or light voice.

Character
Okay for our new characters i have to say annoying. Especially Kanaria who uses the violin as her weapon. That's cool but her personality is pretty annoying. But her way of thinking is funny. Next Barasuishou is what i believe your typical villain. Her purpose is very predictable. So not a very interesting character

At the end I was pretty disappointed of how the season ended. I mean it didn't end strongly as it did in season one. Because in season one it didn't necessarily need to make a season two. It just ended good. However in season two the ending definitely tells you that there's going to be a season three. Well if there that would be a great disappointment to us Rozen Maiden fans. Also their were couple parts that were confusing especially the end of the episode.
Also I really didn't understand the rabbit's role that much. He just made the story a bit more confusing for me.

Anyways to those Rozen Maiden fans you must watch this. This will not be a waste of your time. Because we still continue for the truth about the Alice Game.

After an overwhelmingly enjoyable first season, bring on the second season! - Rozen Maiden: Traumend (Dreams/Dreaming).

This season, we are introduced to two new dolls and a new plot that now expands on the Alice Game and its quirks. The two new dolls are Canaria (2nd) and Barashishou (7th, f---); one is an ally while the other is a psychotic villain (good times ^^). This season around, the Alice Game will end for good, and in greater tragedy.

In all its glory, Rozen Maiden continues to be both laugh-out-loud comedy and tear-jerking drama in perfect moments, never dulling with each transition. For the most part, the parts are played out perfectly, rationally and logically. The dolls' personalities keep the comedy interesting while growing developments of the dolls keep the tension on the drama raised tight. It's only a shame that this season around the ratio between comedy and drama got shifted in more favor of the comedy; the drama parts felt rushed and compact. Nevertheless, excellent directing on both parts and each episode keeps you wanting more.

However, in spite of the good pacing, the plot falls from being okay to mediocre and almost confusing. The main villain, although psychotic, is unlikeable (unlike Suigintou from last season), and the rabbit speaks in a weird dialect. The dramatic showdown has been pushed from 3 episodes to 2 (it's a factor of 3:2! that's huge!) and the final episode, although exhilarating, uses a deux ex machina; when the reasons have been revealed and the Alice Game *ends*, certain plot points are unexplained and it felt like there was a change in script between episodes 11 and 12. It felt as if the ending cheated out in order to raise hopes for a third season; the first season's ending was better. In any case, the whole plot does make sense, but it feels incomplete and almost incomprehensible.

That doesn't mean I didn't enjoy this thoroughly; I love this series to death and I can't wait for the OVA and a third season. Definately check this out if you are a Rozen Maiden fan!

The 2nd season continues directly from the 1st season with no explanation whatsoever with the character background, and story background. You must actually remember the story from the 1st season to enjoy this. This is mostly a lolifest for those who has a skewed view on this. the story is really really short, spanned over 12 eps, and in that you actually get lots of character development and more fan service of the dolls. Its not really bad, but its not really good also.
Mostly the dolls behaved like kids, and they should be, and since the story has little climax to it this time, so its not really something that is memorable. Other than that, the story has the same op/ed type as the 1st season. Catchy intro, slow ed. There are 2 new dolls, in this, and this time, the story is about how dolls waste thier time on a daily basis.
Seiyuu same as 1st season, and the only seiyuu that was nice was siseiseki (the green doll) which is kind of mischeavous.
The ending, is not really an ending, but it gives room for more of RM...if they ever decide for more RM.
This anime is a niche, will not woo many. It will only woo lolifans, and kids as the theme is very very innocent. It has a good way of attracting the audience, only that its too slow and if made into 6 eps, it can be better as most of the time wasting in it is gone away. Another plus side is the fighting scenes which are more here, and less before, so this is a plus. On which is the strongest character, thats no brainer, in fact looking at all the characters you can preety much make a a list from 1st till last.

Just like the original Rozen Maiden, I get the sneaking feeling that I really shouldn't have liked this as much as I did. Rozen Maiden: Traumend is the second season to a series that closed 2004 on a surprisingly good note, despite some shamefully weak comedy and occasional obnoxious characters. Unfortunately, you're going to find those hallmarks once again in this title, especially the latter. The comedy is kept restrained to the first three episodes, thank God, because it is painfully unfunny and lame. When the plot grows serious, that's when the anime is really allowed to get going, and get going it does.

See, a lot of Rozen Maiden/Traumend's flavor comes from the interesting Elegant Gothic Lolita complex. For those unfamiliar, this is a Japanese fashion statement that basically glorifies elaborate pseudo-Victorian outfits and demeanor. Bizarre and impractical, yes, but it looks cool in a twisted sort of sense. Because all of the dolls exemplify at least one half of this (the fashion), the characters and settings have an interesting sort of verve to them. The anime isn't afraid to be a little weird at times, which is a point in its favor. Be prepared to see things like violent violins, talking rabbits that hop through dimensions and elaborate duels in elegant rose gardens. Rozen Maiden: Traumend, for all it's worth, is a very interesting anime. It's also quite like its predecessor on almost all fronts, except for a few key changes. That, as far as I'm concerned, is a good thing.

I finally understand now that Rozen Maiden is all about feeling - the bond that is created between the dolls, through all the fun times and through all the tough times. It is an anime about friendship, sisterhood, personal dreams, and all the conflicts and pain that arise from differences. Each doll has her own unique personality (thank god they aren't stereotypical!!!) and

In my Rozen Maiden 1 review, I criticized how it was so "cool" and "serious" in the beginning, yet uselessly silly and full of fillers for the majority of the remaining episodes. I still stand by that view. However, Rozen Maiden 2 continues with this fun but in a less to each her own fashion and more of a sisterhood family way. Each doll has grown to love each other rather than having the desire to become Alice. It is almost as if Jun and Nori are the mother and father to a whole family of chidlren dolls. They truly do act like a family and there were many touching moments.

The setting essentially takes place entirely in two places: Jun's house and the N-field place where the dolls battle. (Which all the more supports the idea that this is more an anime about feeling - the dolls never really leave the house and are housed in with each other). However, one newcomer doll - Bara Suishou - decides to want to win this Alice game and ruin the harmony for all. As things become more fanatic, and only one Alice Game winner can be decided, the family starts to fall apart as the balance between keeping the status quo and keeping Rozen's wishes conflict with each other. Here, the anime starts heating up to its climax and where heart breaking story moments are told...

Rozen Maiden 2 is far from perfect. However, it is definitely a whole notch up from its predecessor and prequel. It maintains a good balance between the serious and the fun. It has an interesting story and some mysterious elements that aren't revealed to the end. Best of all, the doll are absolutely lovable in every way - from their adorable behavior to their pure and innocent emotions, the Rozen Maidens are sure to warm the heart of any one who gives them a chance.

(based on Ayu fansubs)

I enjoyed the second season more than the first and if there's a third season next year I'll definitely watch it.
The story this time is completely different and much better than the first, though it leaves a lot to be desired.
Probably the manga hasnt finished yet and they cant add story elements arbitrarily
I havent read the manga that far and hopefully a third season will take place after the manga's ending to finally
reveal everything behind the story, the Father and the Alice game.

So in terms of story dont expect much to be revealed, except two new Rozen Maidens, the Rabbit who according to the manga could also have appeared in season 1
-he's called Laplace's Demon(!)-,the man whom they call ''Father'' and two new Mediums.
Jun isnt given much screentime as in the first season and Tomoe and his sister even less. I liked the reappearance of
a certain character and in season 2 this character is much more impressive than all the rest, especially in episode 6 (the best episode of both seasons).
Her Medium though isnt that well developed and if it was she would be even more impressive.
Fortunately the producers didnt focus that much in comedy elements, and even the moments they did the characters werent as annoying as season 1 ep 5 and 10.
So I could finally manage to tolerate Hina Ichigo and Suiseiseki and in the last episodes they became more serious.

Shinku wasnt as well developed as in the first season, but this would be more difficult since in the second season the two other villains are also good characters, the
twin dolls too. I didnt like Kanaria that much, but her violin weapon was impressive and reminded me of another character from a well known and funny manga.

Animation and sound keep the standards of the first season, though the second season is more battle oriented. So expect well animated battles.
The BGM has the same quality too and remains effective in keeping the creepy atmosphere in some moments of the anime. The OP and ED are better
than the first season both in visuals and animation. I liked the OP and ED music too.

This anime is one of the good titles of 2005. A must watch for those who liked the first season. Hopefully the third season will
turn even better, if they ever decide to produce it.

Traumend picks up from where the original left off. This time introducing new characters. As usual, the squabbles between the dolls and Jun bring life to the show.

Traumend still fails to answer the questions that the original left. About the N-field, how the dolls are simply given life and how they get their powers. (I wrote something similar in my other review)

Story-wise, Traumend packs in more action and gripping moments. The Alice Game starts and everyone is in a mad rush to make up their minds whether to fight or not. And the seventh doll appears, apparently she's the biggest mystery through out, no flashbacks about her whatsoever.

I felt that the ending was quite a let down. The identity of the father also isn't revealed. Music carries on the same style as season 1, which isn't really to my liking, however background music during the scenes are good.

Apparently, Traumend is at most lukewarm, kind of puts your expectations on high, but fails to deliver. Still it's worth a watch for its great animation.

Rozen Maiden was a good anime to kill my time. I hence looked forward to it's sequel - Traumend. The second season had all the chances of becoming a TRULY great show - however Peach-Pit obviously decided to go with the tried and tested strategy they did with Rozen Maiden.

The series begins in a very different way than it's counterpart. It is much more dark - the last doll has awakened and The Alice Games will begin. And since there will be just one doll at the end - it gave the creators a lot of opportunity to develop the characters. However it goes in the silly way like the first series - trying to entertain more and making the plot secondary. Like the prequel you have a filler at epsiode 5 - which went horribly against the dark theme of the series. Some scenes were not needed - like Jun and Enju's working together. It was intersting but when you look back it hardly contributed tot he main story. The series does pick up from episode 6, goes brilliantly for 5 epsiodes at a breathneck mix of drama and action.... only to commit suicide in the last five minutes from the end, leaving more questions than answers. A huge wate of potential.... *sigh*

Despite the flawed direction - Traumend does deliver on characters. Shinku is given more despair and needs help - giving her personality a different look. Susie Seki was developed perfectly - easily the best doll of this series. How she handles Sousie Seki and her feelings for Shinku are wonderfully shown. The characters introduced in episode 6 (can't reveal, will act as a spoiler) is also shown in different light. However in the end it remains an ambigious character. Even Hina-Ichigo is shown to have a serious side. On the downside Jun is sidelined - he is like 'another fellow who can't do anything.' Enju, Laplace Demon, Barashushio, the yellow doll are wasted potential. Sousie Seki was as of a useless character as in the last series - some people liked her, I hated her - screwed my mood completely.

Traumend could have been awesome, but as of now it remains only marginally better than its predecessor. If it were not for the dreadful last 5 minutes and an unneeded filler, I would have rated this much higher. Do I recommend this? YES. Despite the many flaws I really liked the second half - this one is definitely better than the last show. Just be prepared for a so~so ending.

Considering the manga is ongoing, I do hope that they answer the questions in another installment. For now I wait for either RM 3 or for the manga to get completed.

Rozen Maiden does not fail as one of my favorite anime. It may seem that the sequel has not much to do with the frist season, but in fact it does. There are many things that was not explained in the first season are explained in the second such as the background of the Rozen maidens and the "Alice Game". The characters are further developed. Although the story can be seen as a comedy, there are many deep thoughts buried in it. For example, the dolls' relationship with their father. I guess I feel this way mostly because I was raised in an Asian culture in which the children must obey the elders and any defiance would be considered as dishonor (especially for females).
On the other hand, the whole thing about "Alice Game" sets an oppressive atomsphere for the story because this is the final and only destiny awaits the characters. Well, you have to see the last a few episodes to understand a very important aspect of both season 1 and 2. The last a few episodes are very emotional; however, the last episode has room for improvement. Or, maybe a 3rd season won't be the best! I think this Anime is suitable for people of all age groups and I do recommend it.

After the one of the fave animes of all time, its sequel had a lot to cater for, Rozen Maiden has a great blend of comedy, dark atmosphere and characters but what can RM: Traumend do to stand out?

RM:T is good in the sense that whatever people expected from the first series is pretty much still present here in the sequel. The great comedy, the characters and its overall atmosphere is well done. Though the series has gone a bit light-hearted and now even the prospects of a Alice Game seems half-assed and not as serious as it should have been.

Still, despite what RM:T lacked in story-telling, it made up for what it already has, a strong-willed cast from the likes of Shinku, Suigintou and Suiseiseki with new characters like Kanaria and Rose Crystal making appearances. RM's strongpoint has always been its delightful characters and the situtations these dolls get into, and this series is no exception with comedy abound and great interaction between the characters.

RM:T is a good little series, not as fresh and brilliant as the first series, especially, when the consider the bad major plot-twist at the end.

Overall, 8/10
Grade: B+

It's kind of strange that the first and second seasons of Rozen maiden are seperated, but it's nicer this way. I can tell you now, the second season is not as impressive as the first in many ways. Not to say that it's not worth watching for those who liked the first season, but the impression it leaves by the end is decidedly different. In fact, the whole second season, apart from the fillers, is quite different from the first. I would say that it would be a good idea to not lump these two seasons together. The second season did dissapoint me, but because they are seperated, it will not hurt my impression of the first.

Traumend is an obvious step down in visual quality and creativity. The dolls still look the same, but the action sequences not only lack the creativity and variety of movements in comparison to the first season, but it also lacks simple quality. The characters aren't always animated fully when they move.

This is the first time, and probably the only time i will ever think this, but the animatino quality isn't all that important in this action anime. Normally, beautiful animation makes action sequences more compelling and dramatic, but Traumend uses the character interactions to make action sequences dramatic enough. Not that really hot animation wouldn't have helped, but at the very least, the action sequences left me content.

The sound is used well. Most of the tracks used are from the first season. Every piece of music played in the series is noticible. Music in anime is usually almost elevator music like, phased out by the viewer, but works in a way to establish a mood. In rozen maiden, you will hear the music. None of the pieces sound like background music, and it still works to establish a mood.

While the plot is a little different from the first season, the structure of the story remains the same. You are introduced to the villain early, and they don't begin to play much of a part until later on in the series. The middle section is mostly filler/introduction of characters. I would say that it mirrors the first series even closer in that it takes 2 episodes towards the middle to introduce Kanaria, which reflects Sousei Seki's introduction in the first season. In the same fashion that sousei seki's introduction was the weakest part of the first season, kanaria's was the weakest of the second.

There are periodic clashes between the heroes and villains along the way, and these conflicts generally develop the story pretty fast, and are pretty dramatic. There is a lot of setup for the final conflict which occurs in the last two episodes (again as it did in the first season).

There is something that traumend lacks though. There isn't a character that functions in the same way Jun does in the first series. His development and despair were a core part of the first series. Shinku's weakness towards the begining of traumend departs her too far from her character in the first season. Shinku was a very solid character in the previous installment. She had an essence of maturity and power that the viewer could easily grasp, even when she did despair once, the essence remained. Most of the second season works to break the viewer's knowledge of that essence. This really hurts shinku's functionality as a character. A slump in the character's resolve and presence isn't neccessarily a bad move, but making Shinku play the helpless maiden doesn't work.

The thing that dissapointed the most was this huge plot twist in the last 8 minutes or so. It was such a gimmick. It tries to change the whole plot in the last 8 minutes. What's more, the rest of the ending was so hurried and empty that I cannot say Traumend made any lasting impression on me.

As far as the characters go, Traumend somehow lacks far behind its predessecor even though they use mostly the same characters. Shinku looses her essence as a character for most of the conflicts in the show (she's still bossy, but she doesn't have the determination or confidence she had in the first series). Jun's problems were pretty much resolved, and his relationship with Shinku hit a ceiling by the end of the first season, so there's really not much left. Nori may as well not exist anymore, as she has no real part in anything, not even the fillers. The main villain barasuishou is more of an empty plot device than a character. Suigin Tou in the first series made a functional villain because at the very least, she had a personality.

Not that there are no improvements, just that the steps backward far outnumber the steps forward. Sousei Seki's character is revamped (there wasn't much a vamp in the first series anyway) and Suisei Seki is given a lot more attention. Her interactions with Kanaria towards the very end is especially touching. Shinku does end up regaining her lost character, late as it came, it did happen, so atleast she wasn't broken for all of the series.

While the story structure mirrors the first series in many ways, Traumend is actually very different from the original series. It takes the Alice game to the center of its plot instead of Jun's development. There are many compelling scenes in Traumend, don't get me wrong, but the ending, and the lack of Rozen Maiden's best assets (Shinku's character as it was in the first series, and Jun's development), The second season is just not as good.

I would go so far as to say that if you felt the major conflicts in the first series were resolved already, which i did, forget the second season exists.

Second season is slightly better than the first one.I think i liked it more because its more mature and story is somehow more serious than in first season. There is almost no comedy, which i liked, but there is more drama and more emotions involved in story.
Animation is the same as in first season, that is okey since animation is one of best thing about this anime.Maybe CG is little improved.OST is also from previous season, but some songs that were not used are used and that gives refreshing feeling for your ears.Timing for songs is perfect, voices are great,so for me there is nothing negative with sound.
Like i earlier said, this season is slightly better because of better story and great ending.Everything is answered in end, there are some nice twists that make it more interesting. There is also some space left for possible season 3.
Characters are basically the same, there are some added characters like 6th and 7th doll, father of the dolls and few more.New characters were great, because it gave new life to story and greater possibilities for better plot development, which was used and made it all more interesting.
Enjoyment-yes,i did enjoy second season more than first one and i wouldn't mind to watch season 3 if it can keep this quality.Forget about the dolls and watch this,i highly recommend it !

Following the orignal Rozen Maiden, i expected to be amused even more by watching this. I really enjoyed the first series (i gave 8.5) and I expected more development of the loose strings of the first series in this second installment. This anime does try its hands on tying up the aspects of Alice game, and dolls' relationship with their father, but apparently this anime wastes too much time in the beginning of this anime to finish things up in 12 episodes. Though this anime showed much potential to surpass the first series, especially last 5 episodes or so, but their truly realizes its dramatic and emotional potential and remains relatively flat throughout. animation also take a negative turn in this anime.

traumend devotes itself to the aspect of the Alice game. As you will eventually see, this anime takes a turn that's somewhat like second part of Mai-Hime but nothing that dramatic and emotionally straggering. though towards the end this anime become more serious, this series never takesitself to seriously to lighten up the mood. this can work for its good and bad I think. for me I think, however, this anime could've been more emotional to increase the amplify the pain the characters actually go through.

Characters remain about the same with the except of Suigintou. Barasuishou also is given more light at the very end which is a bit too late. Shinku is constantly and dry funny. HinaIchigo and suiseseki always is delightful to watch, whilte souseiseki adds some interesting dimension to this anime. I however, couldn't help but feel Kanaria was a just a extra character that really copied HinaIchigo's personality.

The animation style remains the same, but the quality of the color is slightly changed. the color is just not vibrant, and clear like the first series, which was a bit of a disappointment. To me the second series should always meet the sameor surpass the standard set at least in animation catagory. except that animation stays exactly the samefrom the first anime. same goes for the music. Much music seems recycled, which is a minus. OP sounds exactly like the fisrt series, and ED is just well.... forgettable.

this anime really could've lot better I think, but it really stays mediocre. But if you like the first I say there no reason not to watch this anime. You will get more of the same and some new information on some of the factors of the storyline the first series touched on.

Hmm... it took two seasons for me to realize just how much I like this series. Hands down best comedy I've ever seen, and the best you will ever see too! xD

However, if you didn't like the first season, then I guess this is not for you. It's pretty much more of the same, except a bit less on the fighting and more on the comedy.

Animation wise, this anime is nothing spectacular. With all the latest high-tech CG stuff from Macross Zero, Karas, and even non-CG samurai shamploo, this stuff doesn't really compare. But then again, those are all action anime and this is not. The animation budget will definately get you through the series without it being a hinderance, and that's probably more than enough.

VAs are absolutely amazing. Words cannot describe it adequately. So I won't try.

The soundtrack borrows heavily from season one. They did add some tracks but I don't think the new ones fit the overall BGM style very well. They're still *good* tracks though.

Characterizations are PERFECT. I literally mean that. The cast is diverse while complementary. They're also not based off your run-of-the-mill personalities aka Solty Rei. Suiseiseki = my favorite anime character. I mean, when this show has my favorite character, how can I rate it any less than a 10? =P

For the first half of the anime, the story's a bit of a stop-and-go, which, quite frankly, is a rather ridiculous way of organizing an anime season. It does gradually smooth out but the result still isn't much of a story. Not really surprising since season one wasn't too different. You can take that as a point of reference. I think it sucks, but if you thought season one had a good story then you'd be satisfied with this.

My main problem with this is that there isn't a solid foundation. Every episode has some new developments made up that comes out of nowhere. They don't follow the established groundwork or even outright contradicts them. It's hard to explain this. I'm not talking about plot twists here. It's a warping of the basic structure of the world, which makes all action seem petty and trivial. Eventually I didn't care what would happen next because literally anything could happen next. Poor planning.

When all is said and done, you probably won't regret seeing this.
