| I wasn't expecting much from Pani Poni Dash! as it didn't seem very popular judging from the number of reviews on AnimeNFO.com... =/ But there were MANY Excellent Ratings on AnimeNewsNetwork, So I Decided to give PPD a try, & I Found One of the Most Funniest Animes Ever~! x)
Animation was Pretty Good~! Well, It's Expected of an anime from 2005. There are Many Different Art Styles used due to the parodies, & The Animation Are Always Very Well Done. But Not exactly deserving of a 10, as there wasn't really anything that really Amazed Me... =/ But Character Designs were Well Done, & Animation Was Very Well Done. =)
Sounds? Having well Known Seiyuus voicing the characters in this anime and sometimes parodying the other animes that the seiyuus had previously voiced in?! Very clever, & Making Use of these Really GREAT Voice Talents to Sing the Theme Songs for the PPD? What More can you Ask For?! All the Songs featured had a Great Tune, Funky Beat & Nice Melodies, or just had its Comedy Value? If you Like Female J-pop and maybe even some techno, You'll Definitely find yourself Addicted to PPD's Theme songs & Want to listen to them Over & Over Again~! Definitely TOPS for the Sounds~! =D
What about the story? Well, for a comedy anime to be funny, it has to cleverly make use of their characters to bring out the comedy. With that, Many Characters are Instantly Introduced within the first few episodes, & Most of the names would probably not stick in your head until the 10th or even the 20th episode?! or Maybe even NEVER?! Well, Basically, PPD Parodies Various other Animes & Cultures from Japan & America, while putting in some of its own Original Comedy, so they aren't just a copycat.
Well, I'm not from Japan, so I couldn't enjoy the MAX Potential Comedy that Pani Poni Dash! had to Offer. T_T But STILL, It Was REALLY FUNNY ANYWAY~ Even though i didn't know most of its parodies, and had to read about them through the notes of the fansubs. I Would Most Probably had Definitely Enjoyed the Comedy MUCH BETTER If I was from Japan, so that I Could understand the culture and some of its hidden jokes and PPD's parodies and many references. Despite that, Even though i couldn't Enjoy the MAX Potential Comedy that was there, I Still Enjoyed PPD Anyway, Laughing Out REALLY LOUD EVery Episode~! =D
Well, like i said, Many Characters were instantly introduced in the first few episodes, and the names probably wouldn't stick with you until MUCH Later or maybe even Never?! Well, that is probably one of PPD's flaws. Another flaw might be, some of the character's information flew by too fast, & until only just now, I thought one of the character which was a student, i thought she was one of the teachers. =_=
Well despite that, All the Characters were Used Very Well to bring in Great Comedy for PPD~! DEFINITELY~! Okay, so some might think that PPD is a copy of Azumanga Daioh. That may be true in some ways, but as the series progressed, i felt that the characters of PPD start to feel more original, and they probably kinda grew onto me, so i don't feel that way. =/ Well, even though Pani Poni Dash! was FULL BLAST Comedy, It had some good touching nice slow moments which developed the characters quite a bit. Wait, no, just being able to enjoy all that comedy with all those characters had made me feel as though those characters had grown onto me, and they were developed every episode with the comedy. x)
Overall, I Enjoyed PPD a LOT & Think that Pani Poni Dash! is a Really GREAT Comedy Anime, Probably one of the Best Ones Around Too~!=) However, i would only recommend it to those who have vast knowledge of Japan's & America's culture, as you probably would not be able to enjoy PPD at its Max potential if you don't. But then again, it's not really necessary, because Pani Poni Dash! has Its Own Comedy to offer as well. =)
It's also Pretty Rewatchable as Each Episode is a Random Adventure~! =D I'll Definitely Watch Pani Poni Dash! again someday. =)
& Lastly, If you enjoyed the comedy of Azumanga Daioh, it's pretty much confirmed that you'll enjoy Pani Poni Dash! =)

| It's hard to find words to describe Pani Poni Dash.
But to sum it up in a few words, I'd say it's a crazy comedy that is best viewed by a native japanese or someone with vast anime/japan knowledge.
Why's that then? Pani Poni constantly has references and/or jokes about other animes, famous japanese people, important anime animators/creators, japanese history(as well as movie/anime history), and it's hard for an "average westerner" to fully appreciate these references.
The fansubs I watched had notes about all these references but even when reading those, some things just went straight past me.
But that doesn't make Pani Poni less enjoyable, you just can't enjoy it to it's full extent.
Since I'm on about enjoyment, I did not particularly like Pani Poni at first, but after a few episodes and when the characters grew on me, I came to like it, and by the end I have to say I almost love it.
The jokes and puns in Pani Poni are overall very funny, but not hysterically funny, but they do enjoy you quite a bit.
It was the individual characters and their quirks and specialities that really caught me though.
Pani Poni is about Rebecca Miyamoto, a child genius who graduated from MIT(the technological counterpart of Harvard) at an age of 11 and moved to Japan to become a teacher.
She becomes a teacher for a high-school class(meaning all the students are older than her), which creates some fun and interesting character dynamics.
Most of the characters in Pani Poni are from "Becky's" class, but a couple of students from the other classes also frequent in the anime.

| Crossbreeding Excel Saga and Azumanga Daioh is demanding task. Caring little for the risks, the brave men and women at SHAFT have put their heart to this groundbreaking genetic experiment. However, the results they've obtained are confusing at best.
The confusing part of the series is inherited from Excel Saga. Pani Poni Dash has quite a lot of obscure references to Japanese pop culture that only the most fanatic western fan could understand. I can easily say over half of the stuff went right by me. This wouldn't be so bad if they wouldn't be so present. There almost always something written or happening in the background that has some hidden meaning and I couldn't close my eyes from this. I would stop the playback to check translator's notes but this completely destroys to viewing experience. The only option I was left with was to let it all pass and feel like I was missing half of the content. In moderate amounts references, even obscure ones, are welcome in my book, but this flood of stuff was little too much.
That for the bad part. Good thing is that the show has same kind of manic sense of humor as Excel Saga has. There's absolutely no way of knowing what happens in the next episode or even in the next scene. Things like kappas building a missile, archangels, magical girls, a god of unhappiness (a cute little girl btw) or attacks from outer space are nothing but ordinary occurences in the world PPD. The wide and wacky variety of ideas is alone reason enough to watch this series. There is one unfortunate consequence of this: I can hardly remember anything of the series because it's so random and unbelievable. It's hard to remember something that doesn't make sense or has a logical structure.
Now, we should move on to the genetics inherited from Azumanga Daioh aka the characters. The cast of PPD consist from 10-year-old Rebecca, an child genious and already MITT graduate and a high-school class teacher. And then there's a bunch of girl students having fun with her. I think there was one male teacher and two male students in minor roles but that's very little compared to 10+ female characters. These characters are based on familiar school comedy stereotypes: bossy, energetic, gentle, silent weirdo, animal lover, maid, magical girl... uh, well they're based on anime stereotypes then. This is a weird school, you know? The ordinary characters don't matter that much because the series put them in such ridicilous situations that any character would react funnily. And of course, their charasteristics are a couple of times more extreme then in your average school comedy to make the humor work properly. My favourites from the big cast are Mesousa and Ichijou. Mesousa is depressed rabbit that gets abused in about every episode. It's so heartwrenching to hear his(?) trembling voice raise in expectations as he(?) sees some light at the end of the tunnel when you know that his(?) hopes are going to get trampled soon. And even that I know this sounds cruel, it's damn funny too. Ichijou is extremely weird class president that seems to live in some other world, has most extraordinary comments on things and very unusual capabilities. The sheer weirdness of her character is enough to make her every appearance worthy. Rest of the bunch is good too. The 'story' of PPD follows the budding friendship between Becky and her students as they go from one weird situation to another. The series does a good job depicting the abnormal relationship with a 10-year-old teacher with 17-year-old students. Unlike certain Sensei no Ojikan, the dynamics in the main group are functional and feel natural despite the unnatural situation.
I knew the good people of SHAFT from Tsukuyomi before this. In that series they used very unusual animation style and tricks. Now they do it again and as the series is as weird it is, I have to say the animation style works like magic. For example, during classes the 'camera' is sometimes taken back so that we can see all the stage crew and class being a simple prop. Or all the other students apart from active characters depicted as simple clones of each other. The series has a lot similar effects and unlike all the references in the series you don't need to have a Ph.D. in Japanese pop culture to find them funny. The music in the background is very similar to Azumanga Daioh as it's simple tunes that follow the scenes and make everything seem more funny. The true gems however are the first and third opening sequences. First of all both songs are very catchy jpop songs and with them goes psychedelic show whose match I've rarely seen. If I said the show itself has imaginitive animation, these openings are something way more extreme and they hypnotized me pretty badly. If you don't watch the series, watch them at least. They are little gems themselves.
There's a lot of good in Pani Poni Dash but unfortunately the excessive use of references took most of the fun out of the show. I'd really like to close my eyes from all of those references and enjoy the weird humor, but I couldn't do it. All the time I felt little irritated that I wouldn't understand much despite reading the translator's notes. But if you can ignore this, PPD is a thrilling ride to outer limits. Just remember: there's nothing wrong with your brain, it's just Pani Poni Dash that's running on the screen.

| Comedy relies heavily on perspective. And from a non-Japanese centric viewpoint, Pani Poni Dash manages to both suck and blow at the same time*(1). I dislike referencing other reviews, but seeing as this anime has yet to receive a negative one, I'll be the lone voice of dissention.
Let's get the obligatory comparisons out of the view. This is not AzuDai. Or Excel Saga. Or Hare Guu. Or even Dokuro-chan. PPD lies in the realm of ADHD-inspired mindf__kery. As a resident of AA*(2), I imagine this is what some of those junkies see when they close their eyes.
[The * indicates an obscure reference inserted as a lame attempt to be funny*(3). See the notes provided at the end of the review*(4).]

| Pani Poni Dash! Is the tale of Rebecca Miyamoto, a half-Japanese, half-American 10-year-old with a doctorate from M.I.T. She has chosen to be a teacher in Japan, and goes there. Aliens, for some unknown reason, choose to monitor her as part of an experiment. The stories follow Rebecca, her class, and her hapless pet rabbit Mesousa.

| ok....this is the first series i have reviewed and put an all 10...but anything less is not fair for the blast i had with PPD....it was really a blast for me....i even wrote an essay at college about PPD when the tutor asked us to write an essay about the best work of art (in any form) we've experienced which was made in 2005...i had 19 eps d/led lying unwatched on my HD and i watched them all in just 5 days
first of all this is nothing like azumanga daioh....azu was slow.....really slow compared to the craziness that is PPD...think of more like excel saga and jungle wa itsumo....the many colours in PPD also remind me a lot of jungle wa itsumo
moreover, this is the MOST entertaining anime i've seen in my anime viewing career and also very creative (used many techniques other than the traditional animation throughout the series) and very funny as well. What amazed me was the enormous amount of references, tributes, and parodies in the show.It just makes you wonder at the sheer amount of material used!!everything stood equal to be used in this show...american movies (indy jones, kill bill, sin city etc), japanese movies, japanese variety tv shows , japanese radio programs , anime , manga , japanese dramas.....Pani Poni Dash is like a pop-culture blender which emitted a visual and cultural blast for the eyes and the mind in the end....
now,to analyze the categories one by one
animation is A+ quality....the series is nearing it's completion (speaking of subs) and the quality of the animation hasn't degraded at all.....it's sparking for 20 eps now,and it's as good as it was the quality of the naimation in episode #1....this is quite uncommon for anime tv series....the animation qual. drops after some episodes almost always....shaft is making a terrific job
sound is great.....the 2 versions of OPs and EDs that are used have very kawaii and upbeat songs....you just can't wait for the Ops and Eds to appear so as you can sing along....the background music and the music throughout the episodes' duration is nice....nothing out of the ordinary here....just fine
as for story.....the story is rather episodic (just like the U.S. cartoons, with the difference that U.S. cartoons along with the fun have some episodic plot development whereas PPD doesn't have any plot development throughout the episode XP) and the theme changes from episode to episode....in one episode it's an unknown virus, in another it's a school festival and the list goes on....the theme is introduced and the characters using the mayhem and the craziness they are accustomed to, walk their way toward the end of the episode
characters now....owww the characters are so lovable....becky is now my #1 favourite character....(now D from Dual! has to suffice with the #2) sensei da zou~~~...she is so cute!!!! blond pink hair, great syle, cute voice....10x the cuteness of chiyo-chan from azumanga daioh......also kurumi (?is that the name?) who says always maho and omega kawaii is very fond to me and has a really nice voice....well,there are also some other memorable characters each and every one with it's own distinct personality
value is a great 10....A+ series which is thriving with entertainment,fun,laughs,non-stop over the top craziness, creativity, various techniques, great character designs,top-quality voice actors,HQ animation, memorable characters,A+ OPs and EDs sequences....WHAT MORE COULD YOU ASK?
as for enjoyment....sit back and enjoy....sure thing is you'll never get bored throughout this series

| One of the best anime shows of 2005. I see alot of comparisons to Azumanga but it is different. PPD is way crazier which makes this show more interesting.
The animation was nicely done. SHAFT did a nice job with Tsukuyomi also.
The sound was awesome. Both the OPs and EDs of the show were very catchy and fun. The voice cast was just an all star cast. Just to name a few Horie Yui and Yukino Satsuki.
There is not much of the story. It's just a genius girl teacher and 6 students doing wacky stuff all over school campus. But this is enough to keep it interesting. Very crazy show with so much going on to keep audiences interested.
The characters were one of the most original characters to be in any type of anime. Very lovable characters. Though there are many characters. The main is Becky and the 6 students. Like I said very good voice cast and very original characters.
Overall one of the best animes of 2005 no doubt. Many parodies that make you say "hey I saw that the other day." One of the craziest shows comparable to Abenobashi Shoutengai. One of the most original concepts for an anime.

| for anime comedies, it's hard to get it right but this one does...at least most of the time.
it'll be side snaping funny at times, but then fall into all those basic anime gags you see all the time. There are many unexpected and harliously random events and scenes that give it real gusto. Something of a mix between azumanga and excell saga, if i were to choose two past funny shows. Like excell saga, it'll throwing in a ridiculous amount of anime references that even the fansubbers have a hard time keeping up with, but falls into excell's predictable and lamer jokes. But like azumanga theres more randomness that helps. It also mocks stereotype abundantly, especially when it comes to fanservice, which is one of the funniest points for me. (they'll just throw random fanservice at you without pretense and it catches you off guard)
And since anime is animated 1st then dubbed, you see an interesting way the animaters used their skills to make you laugh through their imitations of dating sim games and chibis. the chibis are so abundant they become a hallmark. In this way, you can have 8 characters on screen layed out in rows as chibi and have thme interact with their surroundings regardless of reasonable expectations. very unexpected and cute. a great use of anime's strong points.
with a really catch op and end, and nice music, i really liked to just watch and listen to the op and endings, which were also well animated.
But there's something to be said about its likeness to azumanga, since they are contemporaries of each other. both have very similiar characters. Pani poni, has a 11 year old chiyo variant, though she's the teacher and has an unshiny personality, theres a similiar yomi with glasses, a empty headed osaka-like character, a similiar chiyo's father like charcter who seems to be god, a tomo-like character, an event where the chiyo like character becomes tramatised in a car, and more. but the similarities apart, it separates itself well from it.
so hit's very hit or miss. some ep i laughed hard and others not at all. but if it's not funny, they'll give ya fanservice and cuteness up the yinyang

| First of all: Pani Poni Dash != Azumanga Daioh.
Or. Azumanga Daioh + more girls + some more guys + talking animals + creativity + hot mocha = Pani Poni Dash.
In fact, it's "Mahou Sensei Negima's" b*****d stepbrother. The show tries so hard to be funny that it becomes two shows at once; a visual gag and a verbal brawl ala talk show.
Good stuff, though.

| (Based on 12 episodes)
Wow what can I say about this anime? One thing is it's alot like Azumanga Daioh. Both animes are hilarious! At first Pani Poni Dash! was quite confusing and I didn't think I would continue after 2 episodes because it was soo... random XD. I'm glad I continued though! I'm getting the hang of it and now I know who all the characters are, etc.
Story is the weakest part. Because, like Azumanga Daioh, there really isn't a story. Basically about a group of high school girls and their teacher and their everyday life. Although really its more like 3 groups of high school girls and their teachers with class 1-C having the main role.
I like the animation alot! At times the art switches from regular pani poni dash art to another anime/manga's art for some scenes.
Opening and Ending music is very VERY catchy! And the background music and sound effectas are very good too. You will find silly, sad, upbeat, mysterious, and plain weird songs in this anime. Many different kinds are good to have!
Characters are definitely a high score for this anime. We have the chibikko teacher who is very loud and cute, Himeko the one with weird hair who says omega alot (its so funny!!), Rei who reminds me alot of Yomi from azumanga daioh (maybe its the glasses? o_o) who is known as the bully, Rokugo-san who is very calm, and Ichijou who reminds me alot of Osaka from azumanga daioh except Ichijou is ALOT more weirder believe me. All the characters of Pani Poni Dash! are different which, to me, is necessary in a good anime. I mean come on, who wants many characters in one anime that have the same personality?
But anyways that is my take on it after 12 episodes. It is very enjoyable and I plan to dl more when I have the chance. I definitely give it high marks!

| In short, this series is deemed to be Azumanga Daioh meets Excel Saga. If you loved either of the series, you are definitely going to love this series. Keep in note that the manga differs a bit from the anime itself. Because it is distributed by Square-Enix (yes the FF/DragonQuest peeps), expect a lot of Video Game and RPG similarities.

| Not to sound like a broken record but this really is "Azumanga 2". If you liked that, you will probably like this. It's way over the edge, very weird, chock full of strange cultural referances and hilarious to boot.
Animation is sharp and shiny new feeling. There are lots of deform / effects / style moments that make it interesting.
The characters are a lot of fun to watch. You can relate to each of their specific personalities and you end up feeling like you know them. This anime is very character oriented. Parallels can be drawn to Azumanga as have been stated in all reviews before mine.
The Openings and endings are all very good while the background music is forgetable. I kinda wish that it was a little more interesting hence the 9. Sound effects are great though and add emphasis to the comedy.
There really isn't too much of a unifying storyline and each episode is it's own story. They usually revolve around a specific character and how Becky has to solve the problem (usually after she creates it).
Great fun watching this anime. I would suggest it to anyone that can take their anime lightly and likes watching it because it's fun. Won't appeal to everyone (there are some ...what?!... moments) but most people will find something or someone to like in it.

| I haven't really seen that much of Azumanga but from what I've seen there's not that many similarities between these shows. Yes, it's school setting and everything. yes, there might be similar characters, but..
Ichijou = Osaka. Pure lie, osaka's just slow, ichijou is entirely weird/evil.
Rebecca = Yukari. No, yukari is a slacker and a drunk, Rebecca is, well probably like.. chiyo-chan I guess. + more.
Otherwise Pani Poni Dash is more random, with segments like the show being a scene for..a tv show. And god is a cat? it's body temperature-nya.

| Well this series hit me by suprise. It is the Azumanga Daioh clone like so many people say it is, just a little over the edge. Even the character seem azumanga diaohish. Tomo being my fav character in Azumanga Daioh has been imo cloned to this hyper over the edge character named Himeko. "OMEGA kawaii" has become my most beloved phrase recenetly ever since i met Himeko. The animation is quite new to me, but i really did love it since it makes everything kawaii. Even the 11 year old teacher who is basically a fuse of Chiyo in the kawaii department with the attitude of the beloved Yukari-sensei.
If your looking for comedy catch up to this series, i will promise you a laugh or two. Hopefully the series continues to be as wierd and comical as it is now, this one will be a hit.

| Identical to Azumanga Daioh. I could almost call this a copy.
So far, I'm really liking this show. I've seen up to episode 12 so far, and it constantly brings flashbacks of Azumanga Daioh, perhaps because it's in a school setting, it's completely random, the teacher is obnoxious and rude, the students are all whacky and unique and there is an excellent cast. Anyone who likes Azumanga Daioh should watch Pani Poni Dash. It's the Azumanga of 2005.
The animation in Pani Poni Dash is super clear and cute. All of the characters look adorable and have wonderful designs. The art style is very unique. The colors are very pastel like. The opening in Pani Poni is good, and the ending isn't bad. I really like the background music, though. It's very catchy and always fits the scene. There is hardly ever a time when the background music is absent.
The story is Pani Poni isn't supposed to have any depth, this is obviously an anime made purely for entertainment. Since it succeeds in doing so, I don't see anything wrong here, do you? The characters are great. Any time that Behoimi is on screen is a pure moment of bliss. The Behoimi episode is a MUST WATCH by the way.
So far Pani Poni is a very fun anime. It's random as heck, so be warned. If you liked Azumanga Daioh, you'll probably love this.
Some Azumanga Daioh Comparisons...
Rebecca- A highly annoying 11 year old prodigy. Sound firmiliar?.
Himeko- Tomo. Both of the characters are highly annoying/loud and carefree. They are also quite prone to cute things
Rei- Yomi. They are almost identical. Both characters are the smart allecks and like to play pranks on the most annoying character (Himeko, Tomo). They are also very serious and get good grades.
Ichijou- Osaka. As hard as it is to believe, Ichijou might just be weirder than Osaka! However, each of them are very spaced out and can not be understood half the time.
Miyako- She's just like Yomi, too, except she yells alot and gets fairly bad grades.
