What? Not another school-revolving-parody of life? Oh wait! Yes it is!
Wait? You say this is an AzuManga rip of? Dear- let's keep this nice clean and easy!

I've read the first 5 volumes of School Rumble- [I'm so behind I know!] and all I can say is- that- it's- extremely funny. If you have a light sense of humor and can easily connect to the characters and the random situations you will actually appreciate it none the less.

Up to chapter 283 (END). Don't forget the flat and natural chapters!

Harima loves Tenma. Tenma loves Karasuma. Karasuma loves his Kappa costume and Onigiri. Voila! A love triangle appears and craziness starts! Along with that, the whole class gets involved in a huge mess and the whole thing gets crazier than crazy. This went on for 200+ chapters, with the first 160 having been adapted into anime with an OVA for the last several chapters.

Design: The pages are EXTREMELY CONDENSED in my opinion, and KJ seems to really favour the horizantal rectangle scheme. Then there's the character designs - many unique males and females, but sometimes he tends to "manilize" his females when they're in major shots (Eri in recent chapters, for example). I tend to favor the anime's character designs for they aren't so "manly" and they're simplified. However, there's lots of action, exaggerations, and cool shots everywhere.

Story: Here's where you think it's funny, but it's not. The manga is EXTREMELY TEDIOUS with tons of "guru-guru-mawaru"'s to the point where you'd just wish KJ would end it already. The anime seems to neutralize this aspect, though. The jokes are mostly based on puns and misunderstandings (which are tedious), but they're good. There are quite a bit shocking plot twists for the relationships, too.

Character: I don't even want to touch this area, so all I can say is that they, for the most part, EXTREMELY WELL DEVELOPED (mostly due to the long-wrought out story) There are quite a lot of them to find and like, and lots of relationships to root for. My favourite would have to be the IchijouXImadori pairing (a shame they haven't been featured a lot recently).

Value: School Rumble is popular, but I would rather watch the anime (a good example of a good adaption). However, there are a number of chapters that weren't adapted, so you should read to see how they flow from one season to the next. Also, some jokes are better on manga than anime.

Enjoyment: Thanks to the anime, I enjoyed School Rumble quite a bit. Except that KJ trolled us all at the very end. Here's to School Rumble Z!

Based up to chapter 283:

School Rumble's Yakumo and Eri are among my most favorite female characters ever created. Although romance never really develops, I really loved the romance situations dealing with these two characters. I really enjoyed School Rumble anime. However, both good and bad, the anime is an exact replica and reproduction of the manga. In other words, if you have already seen the anime, the manga will provide nothing new aside from the events beyond chapter 160. This was a big disappointment for me. Although it was sometimes fun to re-read the story events, the anime form with its higher quality animation, music and suitable voice acting is superior to the manga in almost every way and form.

After reading these 211 chapters, I felt extremely disappointed with the School Rumble storyline. School Rumble manga isn't too spectacular... and at times the drawings felt really lackluster and lazy. Do not bother reading this if you have already seen the anime. You won't gain anything new in story. You might as well just watch the anime again if you enjoyed it in the first place.

For a more in-depth review about the actual contents itself, check out my anime reviews for School Rumble and School Rumble second season.

===

Just finished the manga... I must say the ending is really bad. This is one of those mangas where the best moment is the actual moment. If you don't enjoy reading it, don't anticipate anything good as you keep reading. The humor is where it lies... not the romance. There is no good story build up... the ending is just too disappointing.

This is some funny stuff. I get some good laughs and makes my time worth it. It's very similar to the series perhaps a bit better.

this manga is pretty good. its hilarious (where the writer comes up with some of the stuff, i dont know but its original and its gold) i got kind of annoyed when they tweaked the drawing abit towards the later chapters- 90s onwards peraps? cant be too sure. but they changed it somewhere and its just sth as small as tenma's eyes but it annoyed the HELL out of me and still duz!!! like CHANGE IT BACK!!! but overall its a great read, funny, romantic- general light-hearted stuff. it did drag abit along the way and the chapters are really short but things do get moving and i wanna read more coz u get intrested in the relationships and where they are going (im rooting for harima and sawachika eri!!)
