Shinji and Asuka are neighbors and childhood friends.
As usual, Asuka comes Shinji's home to wake him up, but this morning is different from other days. On their way to the school, Shinji bumps into a short haired girl with a slice of bread in her mouth.
Later, they meet her again in their class room. The girl they met is a transfer student, Ayanami Rei.

Yes, this setting is that appeared in the last episode of the TV series. Cheerful and talkative Ayanami Rei might make you feel strange at first, but she might look cute when you once accustom yourself to its setting.

In the beginning, the story developed as expected, therefore, I thought it was a normal school comedy revolved around the love triangle.
However, the story gradually changes, and it begins to relate to the main stream of the TV series. They are invited into NERV as test pilots for newly created machines….

I enjoyed the school comedy parts in its way, but I don’t like the SF parts. I think the author should have focused only on the school comedy part. The worst thing of the SF part is that the author cannot conclude the mystery sprinkled in the story very well as the TV series couldn’t. Probably, you will be disappointed when the story reaches to the end.

This book can be divided into three parts, the first one is the mentioned above, based on the school comedy parts in the last esisode of the TV series, the second one describes the encounter of Ikari Gendo, the father of Shinji, and Yui. The last one is collection of the side stories. I think each part is too short to describe the story very well.

The drawing of manga is that of popular in Shojo manga and different from most of the manga for boys, and I don't like the author’s style.
