I almost forgot I had this show in my folder, and I truly wished that it had remained forgotten. I only got it because of the Fansub group - Lunar. I like their keen interpretation and clean finish.

This show, however, was a disappointment. It starts okay, and even with the fillers, I could stomach it since it is a romance comedy. The plot, on the other hand, fell off the track towards the finale as all values preached over and over prior in the show were upheaveled.

The protagnist was portraited as a reserved fellow, dense, but reasonable. And such a reasonable fellow end up choosing a cousin that he only lived 1 year with over a childhood friend that he had know for years....ya.... good job, screenplay.

If you want to waste 5 hr of your time over a worthless ending, be my guest. Otherwise just cut the show 2 or 3 episodes from the end and you should be fine...

(Though I have a feeling that anyone who read this would probably finish the entire serie due to curiosity :)

I haven't been watching that many fantastic animes lately. Until I watched Canvas2 ~Niji Iro no Sketch~. It had a good plot twist at the end. (Only if you can get through the fillers) Click on the more from this review button to see more.

The animations were excellent. This is an anime about paintings. So why wouldn't animations be rate high? And all of the characters are very well drawn.

I love the OP song. It's just incredible and it's very catchy. The ED was pretty good as well, just not as good as the OP. There wasn't that much music, but the background music was played very well. The voice acting is pretty well done. Every character's voice fits their personalities.

The storyline was pretty sad, but very emotional and touching. The ending was one of the best, I have even seen. The story kind of has a lot of filters, but it's those filters which make the ending so good. The story is about a guy named Hiroki, he is going to be an art teacher. He used to draw really good, but somehow he won't draw anymore. (Finds out why later in the anime) The two girls for this harem are Kiri and Elis. Kiri is a childhood friend of Hiroki and in the past, she once asked him out, but she got rejected. Then there's Elis, who is Hiroki's cousin. Elis wants to be a artist, but she cannot use the color red. (Finds out why later in the anime) At the end Hiroki chooses one of them, but it's the plot twist that makes the anime so good.

Hiroki - Lead male character. Art teacher in training, but will not paint anymore.

Kili - Childhood friend of Hiroki, asked him out a long time ago, but got rejected. She is now back and she is still in love with Hiroki.

Elis - Hiroki's cousin, who wants to be an artist. She admires Hiroki and wants him to draw again.

There are a whole bunch of characters, but they're kind of like side characters.

Once you watch it, you've seen the whole thing. Unless you really want to watch it again. But it's an anime that will stay in your mind for quite some time.

Canvas 2 is a show that is not made enough in anime these days, a slice of life in the Modern day. It could have been set just as easily in New York or Chicago as it was in Tokyo and told its story. Having played the Bishoujo game that it was based on about a year or so before the series started in the fall of 2005, I was rather happy to see that the series was executed very well. That does not always happen with shows made from games(Think Shuffle!). Many people dismissed this series quickly as a harem show, but there were only two female characters that really mattered, Elis and Kiri. It was nice to see a decent regular guy as the lead in this show. Hiroki was the best male in a show like this since the likes of To Heart or Comic Party. To those who would say that it was too long at 24 episodes, I would have to disagree, I felt it was just the right length.

Much has, and will be said, about how the show ended. I really liked the show's ending and enjoyed the twist. Random Curiosity, an anime blog I visit on a regular basis, had its biggest response to a single episode of anime that it has ever seen when it aired and the discussion became very heated.

It's one you will have to watch for yourself to appreciate. I can't recommend this one enough . . . .

I enjoyed this anime very much even though at the beginning I had low expectations for it...and I was so wrong. Its your typical harem and love-romance anime, but has a very deep story between the three main characters: Hiroki, Elis, and Kiri. You think you would know what will happen, but you are wrong especially at the end. I very much like the ending and glad it happen the way it did. This anime is above average in almost all the categories exception the animation looks very well done.

I first got into this anime because Lunar, the fansub group who were subbing Bleach, subbed this. It was not a regret or mistake, but a good choice.

The basic story is this: two girls like the guy, and around them is a whole set of girls that influence their decisions (and I can only think of two minor male characters that play a role) and is set in the theme of art and paintings. Pretty basic for a harem anime. There are also 24 episodes to cover, in which half of them are fillers that exploit the characters of the minor female roles.

The animation was pretty good, but not impressive. The thing that annoyed me the most was the hairXeye thing in the character's faces, but otherwise nothing else stands out. The paintings themselves were a little lacking, since they are the theme of the story. They could have had extra touchups to them.

I love the OP and EP for this series. They're both very catchy. Unfortunately, background tracks were played in the wrong places sometimes, so that's a mark off.

As for the story, half of it is filler, while a quarter is drama and the other quarter a flat plotline. It is still enjoyable, but it leads to a flat climax that just drops in the final minutes of the series. This series could easily be halved to 12-13 episodes instead of 24.

There are three main characters out of a medium cast, and they all stand out very well. The lead male, Hiroki, is not a wimp - he is a responsible and mature adult and rarely shows a bad side of him throughout the series. Kiri and Elis, the lead females, are pretty realistic, too. The bad thing is that almost nobody has a bad side to them - the characters are just too goody-two-shoes. At least the male role is not a wimp. And then there's his decision at the end...

Overall, I enjoyed Canvas 2. Before the final episodes, it was better than SHUFFLE!, but then they equal out at the end. You'll be in for a surprise if you stuck through all the fillers.

Another entry into the hat of H Games turned anime for 2005. This series ended recently so I felt it deserved a legit full on review. Overall, this is a light hearted series, dabbles in a bit of drama, but is more or less a feel good comedy-romance anime. As with animes of this drama, you will feel yourself polarized to be footing for one of the girls to get with the guy, and it is this momentum which the series uses to suck you into watching the whole thing. The plot, about a guy who advises art at a school but doesnt paint himself because of an early trauma, and a childhood friend-cousin-little sister-ish girl who inherits similar skill but is also impaired by an early trauma, and the plethora of other girls who all had their perspective to the story. A series with alot of filler, but enoyable nontheless, I liked Canvas2 =)

In all aspects, I'd say this is an enjoyable series to watch for laughs.

The animation is decent, not exceedingly great compared to some other series I've seen this year. But, its bright and colourful giving a positive-happy kind of mood.

The sound is one of the weaker points in this series. Some music tracks were constantly being reused for similar situations from one episode to another, which got a bit annoying since it completely gives the mood of the situation away. The voice acting were okay, although sometimes it seems too unrealistic.

The story is probably a typical one. A girl who had a life or death experience at a young age and somehow manages to get on with life with the help of a close relative/friend. She is now attached to her cousin possibly for this reason, but the problem goes on with her cousin meeting an old friend from high school again. I gave the story a high rating because I felt that each episode had more thought put into it, which makes it fun to rewatch some episodes again to pick up the messages you've missed.

Characters were enjoyable to watch and see how they interact with one another. But again, their behaviours seems too unrealistic and irritating at times.

For some reason though, I found this series really enjoyable so far [based on ep. 1 to 6]. There isnt anything exceptional or worth mentioning in this series, but I thought it was a very much enjoyed; probably from the strange and odd personalities of some characters.

Edited: Because I lied and said I was going to drop it after seven episodes, but ended up persisting and watching the entire season. It got better.

Watching this anime, the intro quickly shows a sequence of something between 5 and 10 girls, the 2nd of which is clearly the lolita. Turns out she's a high schooler despite looking eight. Anyways, after a quick highschool confession flashback, the scenario quickly resolves itself into an incestuous main relationship where the effeminate looking male lead wakes up in bed with his sister, who is really his cousin, in a sequence that is totally Chobits. One of those not-sisters which is genre standard for reasons I'd rather not think about. Shortly thereafter, you introduce the childhood friend, and you have an, ahem, love triangle. At this point, I had a hard time imagining how they could more quickly convince me this anime is not worth watching, as a totally puke-worthy standard horrible translation of some hentai game into an anime that we see half a dozen of every year.

Wrong. It's worse. Research shows that Canvas 2 is a harem anime inspired by a non-H dating sim. This explains so much. At any rate, more mockery and parody of the genre has taken place than can be properly covered here, but the genre persists.

Ensuing episodes consist of a string of girls who might be interesting if you didn't know they were standard cardboard cutouts from such games designed to appeal to various preferences in female types.

You get the idea.

Despite all that baggage, Canvas 2 quickly establishes itself as having a kind of bland charm to it, and as there's a steady collection of moments in the anime that are enjoyable. The characters have their moments, the dialogue has its moments, and as such, Canvas 2 manages to keep from being totally emotionally barren, because despite the incredibly lame setup, the anime just sparkles sometime. They're not convincing as real people per se, but they're convincing as consistent characters. Despite myself, I find myself mildly interested in why the main character no longer draws, apparently his greatest passion in his past. They pull of the childhood friend angle pretty well as well, as the two have a relationship that is actually believable. The excess girls which episodes are thrown away on aren't that bad, mostly because there's not a trace of romantic or sexual involvement concerning them. Hm, not that that's necessarily a bad thing, when I think about Great Teacher Onizuka, but I'm pretty sure it would have killed Canvas 2.

In fact, by the midway point, Canvas 2 has established a very strong story and convincing lead characters. The excess girls who could have dragged the story down become very much supporting roles. There are three primary dramatic tension points Canvas 2 hinges upon: 1) The lead character's inability to draw due to a crisis of confidence in his youth. 2) His cousin's inability to use red due to standard tragic past. 3) The love triangle. At any given time, at least two of them are being done well. Though simple enough, I found myself increasingly drawn in and wanting to find how the story concludes these three disparate yet intertwined issues.

But near the end, there are pacing issues. The conclusion of ALL three of the main dramatic points are left to a single episode, which it ties up neatly enough, but left a sour taste in my mouth, mostly because they blindside the viewer with an illogical ending.

Oh, and the end of episode previews are real gems. They're quite funny and clever, and cute besides. Actually that might be a description of the anime at as a whole. Despite its faults, it's as a whole cute.

I can easily recommend it if you're the sort of anime watcher who liked Kanon and reads Megatokyo, because it's certainly better than stuff like Da Capo despite its failings.

This is the classic love-romance random anime-type triangel drama story. In similarities to Da Capo, Kanon and Air, we have a few episodes to get to know the different characters. I think it's very unfortunate that people who seen less than 4 episodes makes reviews of it. I too didn't enjoy the fillers where they introduced new characters. However the main story is really appealing. Mostly because there's no given answer shown, unlike most other series, you know that the lead girl and main dude will get it together sooner or later. And unlike the harem stories, there are a lot of girls introduced, but only two of them are seemlingly into the guy.

The animation is very very similar to the one in Da Capo (the first season). I'm really surprised that they're made by different studios. It's not too seriously drawn, not too cute. It's quite simple animation, but it's smooth and fills its purpose more than well.

The story is a more serious and more deepgoing one than the ones of other series in the same genre. It's nothing really original, about high school crush and triangel love. But then again, dramasseries has been successful several decades, this one is not an exception.
I only wish that the episodes of introducing other than the main characters would be removed, they're not really involved in the main plot anyways.

The characters are great. Those you get to know, Hiroki, Kiri and Elis. The three that make up the main plot, their characters are developed constantly and you get to see things from all their perspective. They're very easy to empathise with as well. The other characters however are just fillers, they serve no real purpose except making the serie longer. As I said before, it's just like Kanon or Air. I could do very well without them.

All in all, this is a rather stereotypical serie in this genre, however I find it to be one of the better. After a slow start, it leaves you longing for next episode wherever the episode ends. The last time I felt this about an anime must've been when watching KgNE.
If you're into this genre, I highly recommend it. If you dont like the genre, this wont be the anime that'll change your opinion of the genre.

For people who like Da Capo season 1. This is your long desired second part, as opposed to DCss.

Ep 13 update - okay, I've followed this one for awhile, so I think I can give pretty close to my final judgment. It's had its ups and downs ... .

So far, this series seems to have a little something that many other love sim-adaptations lack, although it's a bit hard to describe. I suppose maybe I just have a bias towards artistic female characters, who knows. But maybe it's in the spaces between the dialogue (which itself is almost bland at times) when it seems that the emotions run a lot deeper. In a way, I really see myself in the PE teacher's shoes a lot of the time.

The story is, as expected, nothing special. This is very character-oriented, but the characters are rather well-developed and balanced. One does have to wonder about the insistence in this genre that first cousins get a go-ahead for romance ... it's really a bit creepy at times.

There are some nice touches, like the very cute chibi previews at the end, the actual movement during basketball games (this is such a rarity ...), the fact that there are love-interest girls who are neither sick, weak, clumsy innocent dolls nor loud, violent sexy babes. It's still not realistic by any means, but just a bit more touching to the human heart, methinks. But yeah, I do have a thing for art and reunity of formerly dating couples.

Lots of redundant episodes, but 1, 2, and the one with the little neice were really good. When it wants to be heartwarming, it is, but sometimes it's just rambling in what I guess might be one of creators' fantasies .. certainly not mine, that's for sure.
