I enjoyed this anime, but somehow I really felt something was missing here. Everyone like vampires, but as a general school life romance anime, it lacked spice.

For those who like the general school life/romance animes like Fruits Basket, this is still a to-watch anime, but it isn't too special.

We all love watching ditzy romances occasionally which is why I watched this too. However, as I continued watching it, this anime lacked a theme. You can say its love, but that's too generic and non-original in my opinion. Because it lacked a theme, it was really hard to devolop a strong final impression which I believe is as important as a first impression.

As for the character design, I feel the characters were too generic. The details of the characters fit exactly in a certain mold and lacked originality it seemed. You could easily replace a character with a different one threw it in the plot and had the same story.

Okay story, decent voice acting, no gimmick. My take: Good if the like the genre, otherwise, you might not entirely like it too much. To the potential viewers of Karin, I would totally recommend Fruits Basket before Karin. It has a similar feel, but better overall.

Karin is a romantic comedy based on a relationship between a weird looking guy and a female vampire (an unvampire to be more exact). The recipe is pretty simple, attach the inverse of a vampire to a cute personality and throw in an inexplicable attraction to the strangest looking guy one can find. It's a fairly light series overall but there are some pretty good cliffhanger moments near the end.

The series is a bit long and certain episodes aren't related to the main storyline at all but overall the series has a good progression and overall left a good impression.

Karin is a very unique vampire series anime. I feel like it's a parody about vampires. Why? Because Karin the main character is completely the opposite of vampires.

Okay I think the main attraction for this anime is the love-romance. However i find that this love-romance thing was a joke. I mean Usui Kenta, random just some random dude out there to fall in love with. Weird eyes normal kid. Just gets Karin blood to boil. That's all. How's that love ? Whatever. Next if they were trying to make this a love-romance anime don't use flashbacks that much. It just gets annoying and completely. I mean seriously to use it in EVERY episode? Come on. Could they think of something else to put.

The ending of the series was okay. Not too great and not too bad. They saved themselves a bit on how they ended it. Yes of course they got their love through. This is a love-romance anime. Not a really good one. But hey they showed a full fledged vampire. Oh my god! For once but only for a brief moment. Aww...

Well there are some good points to this anime. First we got the defected vampire. Second we have the poor boy who helps out Karin. Next we have the vampires that suck blood from people. Now each vampire doesn't suck on just any blood. They suck on the ones that they prefer. Mostly which type of personality blood that suits them bets. Hatred, liars, jealousy, unhappiness, depressed, and pride. That was one of the strong points about the anime which boosts the character value.
So i see this anime a comedy show of how Kenta helps Karin. Even though i didn't laugh at all.

So this show is plausible for people to watch.

Karin has a lot of good things going for it, like an original story and interesting character background, but these things are wrecked by its technical aspects.

For example, Karin uses too many flashbacks. Being a 24 episode series, it doesn’t need to show flashbacks, but no- almost every single episode has a flashback -most likely being one that was shown an episode ago- and it is frustrating. We are not stupid. In total, you see about 20 quick flashbacks from the same episode throughout the course of the series.

The Opening is nauseating. Why do we need to see pornographic pictures of Karin and Usei? It had no purpose. True, some of the lyrics to the opening song Scarlet were a bit sleazy, but even so, there was no need to show all the characters naked and such (its not full-frontal, but its still annoying).

Something the series did succeed on is its length, unlike Gundam Seed. Although Karin could have been shorter by 2 episodes or so, it didn't drag on too long. This is one of Karin’s strong points.

I would have given enjoyment a 9- but its flaws prevented me to enjoying it to the fullest. Karin could have been an awesome anime if the creators sat down and put just a little more effort into their work.

Karin is a unique anime is several ways. It takes a good twist on the classic vampire anime and turns it to something that's actually enjoyable.

The anime has several strong points. Its light-hearted feel, comedy, character development and unique style has made it an instant favorite for me.

There are a couple things in this anime that should have been done differently. T
1) he anime is a bit longer then it needed to be to get where it wanted to go.
2) The opening needs to be completely scrapped in my opinion. It makes the anime appear to be some strange fan service show, which if you watched the anime for 5 minutes you'd realize it isnt.

I am happy I watched this anime and plan to buy it on DVD when I get my next paycheck. I'm very lucky I even found it. I just saw a small summery about its manga on a random site and looked up its anime.

Karin is a wonderful vampire anime. This is my first vampire anime and it has been a good one. YAY! When you think of a vampire anime you think of something scary or an action anime, but this anime proves different. It is a love-romance anime and a good one in fact.

Animations are done fine. Karin has basic animations that get the job done. Backgrounds get a little plain and boring at times, but the character models are really nice and I like their facial expressions when something unexpected happens.

The OP song is the best OP song ever. (Well so far .....) The ED song is quite well also. They sound really J-popish. So if you don't like pop songs, you probably won't like the OP and ED songs. The background music and the voice acting was done good, but not as well as some other animes. And Karin's voice got annoying after some time. But overall sound was pretty good. Especially the wonderful opening song that this anime has to give you.

The story is original and what you would expect from a love-romance anime. It is about a vampire girl falling in love with a human boy. But can love happen between a human and vampire. It has its sad parts, it has its good parts, and it has its boring parts. The ending of this anime has a lot of drama and kind of felt like it was rushed, but at least the anime ended nicely and wonderfully.

Maaka Karin - A girl who falls in love with a human boy, but she is a vampire. But what is different about her then other vampires. Is that she is a blood maker and instead of sucking blood she gives out blood. So that means she can live in the daylight and eat normal food like hot dogs or hamburgers instead of blood all the time.

Kenta Usui - The human boy that Karin falls in love with. At school people are scared of him, because of his big eyes. But you can't blame him he was born with these big eyes.

Maki - Karin's friend. She gives out great advice and helps people in need when they feel down. I think she is a great character and they should have shown more of her.

Winner - I like him and how he hunts down vampires. But he falls in love with Karin and doesn't even know she's a vampire. He makes this anime a comedy and is a fantastic character. I don't like his voice though. He sounds like a little child.

You have the rest of Karin's family. Karin's younger sister loves her older sister. Karin's older brother is a player and a punk at the same time. Karin's father is overprotective of her daughters. And Karin's mother is umm well I can't really describe her. They all have a depth, mostly the younger sister and the older brother. They even have episodes of their own. Which was really nice and that whole episode was dedicated to them instead of the two main characters.

All I can say is this anime is unique. Instead of violence and people dying you are given a love-romance slash drama anime. Though the anime can be slow at some times. It's still worth a watch for you people who love love-romances.

Don't be off-put by the opening theme of the episodes (after Ep. 1), the show isn't like that at all. Karin is sort of a romantic comedy fiction story. Best I can describe it as. It involves a bit of vampire lore and puts a new spin on it. Frankly one that I quite enjoy. It is also nice to see the "monsters" as regular, well close to regular, people. And as a family.

The characters were unique and frankly sometimes just plain funny. Also, no more endless lists of characters that just showed up for a couple of episodes. Admittedly, there is a supporting cast, but it really didn't get annoying huge or interfere to much with the rest of the characters.

The animation was smooth and well colored. I have to admit, I didn't notice how nice it was until I looked at some other animes. You really start to appreciate it.

Sound was good in the episodes I saw on YouTube. I watched in Japanese; the translations worked fairly well, although there was one episode (provided on YouTube) that had the subtitles a few seconds off of the actually dialogue. I found it annoying, but it was okay nonetheless.

Story could have been a little better. They tried to explain why Ren, the older brother, hated humans. I watched the whole silly thing and I didn't really get that much better of an idea than I did before. Also, the story isn't overall action packed, which some people require to enjoy it, but I was thoroughly entertained. I don't really think there was a filler episode at all, as each one carefully developed the characters and set up the next plot point.

I intend to watch this again, and currently I am sharing it with my friends. If it ever comes out on DVD (or if it already has) I intend to own a copy for my own enjoyment. I'd recommend it to anyone, albeit it is sort of a girl's kind of anime. My guy friend liked it though, so I'd give it a try either way. Hope you all have fun with it!

Based on episodes 1-11, 18-24:

Karin has got to be one of the most dull animes of the year. While it isn't necessarily hopeless with its slough of semi-original ideas, there certainly isn't much to jump for joy about. Mainly, it is the horrible lack of any real tension or interesting characters that make watching this such a dull experience.

Essentially, this anime attempts to advertise the love appeal of some sort of chipper and optimistic backwards female vampire who happens to meet this entirely random, "normal", and arbitrary guy that transferred in to her school. Her entire family consists of "normal vampires", but then again they aren't normal vampires in the mythical sense. Instead of stealing their lives or converting them to zombies, we have vampires that actually feed on blood for a human personality attribute. For example, Maaka's father likes prideful people's blood and when he sucks out their blood, that person temporarily loses that attribute and becomes humble. Yay.

The comedy in this anime is really dry and uninteresting. The only time I chuckled once was at the sudden transition to Usui Kenta's totally wacked-out eyes... Otherwise, all comedic aspects rely heavily on an awkward Karin Maaka blowing her nose up at random points in time. While it may be interesting and odd in the first fewepisode, it clearly gets boring when they show it repeatedly.

The characters are amongst the most 2D I've ever encountered - and worse their basic personality had no appeal or originality to it. Essentially NO character really does anything substantial or memorable. This anime is basically some two-bit crummy love comedy with Maaka Karin going around blowing nosebleeds all over the place whenever she gets close to this guy. How... fun? As for Kenta Usui... there's like nothing I could say that will distinguish him from just a plain boring old character. So... he's had a harsh life and as a result he is what he is and is somehow able to cope with the fact that there is a family of vampires. But other than that, he doesn't do much except evoke this "odd backwards" feeling in Karin.

Animation and sound were so simplistic and basic that I felt it actually detracted from the overall viewing experience. The voice actors were just so generic feeling and I don't know if it was done on purpose, but the characters took a turn for the worse because of it. Music was nearly non-existant. Animation - both fluid motion (or lack of) as well as character designs were poorly executed. Absolutely lack of movement worsened by the fact that the story required little need for any real fluid motion scenes. There were a few fight scenes towards the end, but these were such a joke that I consider them filler rather than real meat.

Karin is such an utter disappointment, but it goes to show that these crappy animes still exist and are still being made. In about 1-2 years in the future, this anime will have been long gone and forgotten but I just was unlucky to have encountered this while it was still floating around.

Disappointing, to say the least. So, Karin was an anime that had all the potential in the world, right? There is just one thing this series lacks; a story. So something happens around episode 19-20ish, but what about episodes 1-18?! Karin has a couple of nosebleeds, Winner appears as a useless filler character with no contribution to the plot at all, and Kenta's mom continues to get sexually assaulted by her bosses. Well... that's about it. Had this been condensed to around the 13 or 14 episode mark, things mighta been different.

Karin was a show with a lot of potential to be the best anime of 2006. You have great art, great animation, fun characters, a fun take on mythologoy (a vampire who GIVES blood =D), and decent voice acting.

So what on Earth went wrong?

I blame it on Winner, an annoying vampire hunter who shows up about a quarter of the series. Because we can't have a show starring high school leads without some contrived love trinagle. Yeesh. Even not including him, though, the show just seems to change on its own. Over time it becomes less funny, less sweet, with lots more drama, but with none of the heart that made the early episodes so great. And the filler episodes really don't add much.

A fun watch, but nothing I would spend money on unless it was cheap.

I say this a lot when I review Vampire animes, but I'll say it again. Vampire genre has been play throughly ove and over. It is hard to come up with something that is different and worthwhile.

However recently Vampire animes have been proving me wrong to a certain extent. Hellsing was one of the most stylish thing I've ever saw. Trinity Blood was much more entertaining and in depth than I expected. Moon Phase was cute and very different in all aspects. and the list can go on a bit more...

Karin is another one of these anime that tries something different from your good old bleed till you are bored type of Vampire animes. Karin has an original plot, interesting characters and very well thought out drama and theme that really make this anime "unique" in comparison to other Vampires. I dont think I've seen any anime with Vampire that makes blood. Surely new situations are bound to rise and new possibility is there to be played around with.

What makes Karin work however is its characters that have surprisingly good chemistry and depth. There are plenty of religious/cryptic vampire animes that force depth with things that are undecipherable, but Karin is the opposite. Karin's family looks and acts like any other normal family expect for the fact that they are Vampires. There is the protective father, dominant mother, punk of a brother, and a caring younger sister who adores her older sister. The family chemistry is very well matched all through the anime. Quite a bit of drama, and comedy is all drawn this normal yet very unique situation. All the characters like Karin older brother and younger sister have surprising depth and another side of their usual self that pleasantly entertain us. The most interesting character however is the grandmother. Vampire grandmother the most central theme provider of this anime. She has lot more insider of her than her outside appearances. The characters are easy to understand and very emotionally true.

The character that I was disappointed with was Kenta Usui. Not because of his personality, because he is quite likable, but because of his lackof background. I would liked to know how his youth have affected him more. His family history would've strengthened this anime so much more because it would've brough more emotion and reality into the whole anime.

however beyond that everything begin to settle in mediocrity. Story is original and especially atowards the last 4 episodes pack some really intense drama. However everything happened altogether too late. The anime could've cut down on some really unncessary scenes and moment that were not necessary. Filler episodes could've been cut and anime could've been made more compact. I think the whole anime could've been condensed into 14 episode in total. that would've really made this anime fast paced and more dramatic.

another thing I didn't like was the female character designs. technically every main female characters except for Carrera had exactly same eyes and very similar structure and I hated the female eye designs. It's angular look didn't suit me very well. the eyes were also altogether too big. I've been big eues in animes. In fact most of us do. Anime afterall is known for big eyes, and small noses and mouthes. But the eyes in this anime were altogether way too big. the eyes were literally half of the face length. All the females looked like owls or lemurs of the night.

I hated the OP and the ED. however overall sound effects and music in the anime were decent and manytimes were quite helpful for the mood.

Karin was a overall unique and enjoyable experience. Although, the whole thing was a bit slow and Kenta's past should've been more throughly covered it wasn't bas enough to completely turn me away from this anime. there is plenty of comedy and drama that actually work most of the times due to wonderful character chemistry. If you are tired of "bleed till death until you are tired" type of Vampires animes, I say you might find this anime pretty interesting.

I really enjoyed watching this anime. It was fun and painless to watch. No drama here. Something good and light-hearted that took my stress away (yes, pun-intended, but I like Usui Kenta better than Ren).

Those two (Karin & Kenta) will stay with me for a while. I just want to say that I really really enjoyed watching this, and am up for watching it again. I really like it that the main characters are not losers. Since I enjoy cooking, I appreciated the bento lunch scenes, since it's one of the ways I express affection as well. It actually takes a bit of effort to prepare a good lunch for someone, but if it's appreciated, it makes everything so worth it, so I can soooooo relate Ü

Kenta actually has a plan for his life. Simple, but something you can respect. He just wants to get a job, and have a family, and not let them down. And he has the backbone to do it, even if it means working long hours and holidays to make ends meet. And he doesn't whine about how life is unfair or whatever. I guess that's why I like him.

Overall, it's an enjoyable watch. I didn't analyze it too much while watching it, but there were some scenarios which I can totally identify with (vampires & humans can't coexist together). I am going to watch it again both for the enjoyment value (it was funny!), and because I did find a lot of my life in that story (not that I'm a vampire). In any case, I'd wholeheartedly recommend it even if you're just after the entertainment or one for analyzing every nuance for a deeper message.

Sigh! Where can I find my own Usui Kenta?

Not your typical vampire anime like Hellsing, Karin puts a romantic/comedic spin on the vampire genre, and even the sucking of blood by vampires is helpful to humans rather than harming them.

This anime focuses on a young girl named Karin and her relationship with Usui Kenta, a rather normal young boy in her school. However, while dealing with this pretty strereotypical romance, she has to deal with the issue that she is a vampire, which really brings uniqueness to this series and seperates it from other romance animes. Despite this unique aspect, it is still a bit predictable.

The supporting cast is excellent, with characters like Winner, Karin's grandmother Elda, Karin's siblings Anju and Ren, and even Anju's doll-friend Bge bringing life and variety to the series. Overall, I would say the characters are the best part about the series, with Anju being my personal favorite. She and her doll remind me a lot of Reiha and her doll from Vampire Princess Miyu. While some of the characters don't have extensive depth, they all are given enough depth and background to flesh them out and make them interesting.

The series is light-hearted throughout, though with the occasional romance or vampire-related drama to spice things up; even the ending transforms from a dramatic action scene into a light-hearted reflection.

Some may be turned off (or on) by Karin's large breasts, and before I watched the series I read some reviews here that said it took away from the series, however while watching it I didn't anything regarding Karin's breasts that took away from the story or was detrimental to the scene that was being portrayed. In fact, in only a few scenes in the entire series were the breats really the focus of attention, and in all of them it was for the sake of comedy.

I would recomend this anime to most anyone to give it a try, though those don't enjoy these school-romance type animes shouldn't watch it. I might watch this anime again, though not for awhile, and even then probably only some episodes, but it is an interesting enough anime that I will keep it around.

Karin has an interesting approach in its attempt to create an interesting show by using the concept of vampires and twisting it a little to make a blend of comedy and love-romance possible. These is definitely nothing like Helsing or Tsukihime in both execution and concept. The whole idea of what it is vampires DO is changed so as to be more kid-friendly it seems.

Overall, Karin is an anime I can neither recommend nor reject. It is repetitive yet original all at the same time.

This thing is Awesome -_- JC Staff really outdid themselves here, I've not seen better work from them since Excel Saga (from a presentation standpoint... not the story itself, though the story IS awesome, just it's not by JC Staff and the stuff that IS handled by JC Staff is BETTER than awesome -_-). The story is rather based on opinion, but this story, imo, is a REALLY good take on a gothic love story. A classic that sort of reminds me of the old TV show 'Munsters' or 'Adams Family'.

Although the love comedy aspect of this show is somewhat generic, it's concept is unique.
In general, I usually stay away from any anime relating to vampires with the exception of Tsukihime, because usually they're just not interesting. This one puts a twist on any of the usual concepts, by not only making vampires do a lot more than just suck blood, but actually associating emotions and "taste" to it, it also gives what I call an inverted vampire. Makes blood instead of taking it.

Worth watching at the least for this unique concept involved, even if you don't like love comedies.

Karin, its about a big-breasted vampire who makes blood instead of sucking blood. A novel concept that fails? Or is actually worthy of your time?

Firstly, Karin is quite a unqiue experience, its got the samey generic romance/comedy structure there but it still manages to be oh so different from the rest. A big part has to go to its *slightly* predictable storyline which involves nothiing more than these Maaka trying to hide their identity and Karin trying to deal with her romance relationship with Usui.
Though not exactly mind-blowing, the executon is above par beyond the normal standards. There is somethign great about the whole cast, with the likes of Anju, Maki and Winner supporting the main characters, the lineup is strong indeed to keep the flow going.

What can be said is that the presence of a light-hearted, never too serious atmosphere which responds well with me. Aside from the last episode which drastically was different (but ended up being a comical situation anyways), everything was true to the 'Happy' message it gave off.

In fact, the worst thing that can be said about this anime would be the aniem can sometimes alienate some viewers into thinking 'WTH is this?' Its certainly different, the romance is never too high, the comedy is very few and far between generally and the drama goes a bit OTT sometimes.. HOWEVER, the anime is great because for me, it mixes in so well with the whole story. It never exceeds greatly in any of the categories but manages to hit the right note for me in some cases.

Overall, Karin is a strong anime in some respects, its never going to acheive the wide-known status that it deserves, but goddamn, i can go watch this all over again because its so damn entertaining.

When the word 'Vampire' comes up, people think scary, dark and bloody.

But never have I heard of a love comedy featuring vampires!!! It's funny, bright, but still bloody! ^^;

Anyway, I've watched the 13 episodes currently out when I reviewed this.I must say, I need more!

I think I've been a bit harsh with Karin. It gets better after episode 12-13, and tough I still didn't like Karin obsession for lunch box, Winner Sinclair is excellent and Usui Kenta quite original.

Karin seems to begin with an original idea in a very classical setting for a comedy (well...just guess...yes, school !) : a vampire (Karin, student, not flat-chested at all for the purpose of the complexity plot) who blood increases once a month instead of being blood-thirsty.
But somehow, she has managed to hide this little embarassing fact to her friends. Until the day Usui Kenta, a transfert student, arrives in her school. For some unexplainable reason, he makes her blood increases quite quickly.

Yes. That's like a gore analogy for love I wouldn't even have thinked of.

I didn't like the opening. For a reason I couldn't figure, Karin appears naked in it, and besides, the OP sounds too much "j-pop" to be enjoyable.

This anime respects most of the rules of the genre.
For instance, Karin will end to give Usui Kenta a lunch every day, and that will be the occassion to admire a lunch-box, as well as various meals. If anime were to improve your japanese gastronomy knowledge, Karin would have a little point here. But it isn't.

Alas this cooking part is just taking too much time on screen. It's like Karin cares for nothing else than learn how to cook new and incredible recipes. Though it gets better after episode 12-13, Karin could as well as be a character in a harem-anime, and that's BAD. For any anime.

Fortunately, it isn't true of others characters. Maki quite meany jokes, Usui Kenta scaring gaze, his mother bad luck, Ren playboy behavior or of course Winner - hm, yes, it seems it could be possible to name a character "Winner" - looser power create some fun combinations - especially Winner with his theatrical stances and his sense of the right word in the right place (you know, when the kanjis appear on the screen).

However some good ideas and new comical situations could allow you to give it a try provided that you could enjoy the overuse of cooking.
