| I only watched this because someone gave it to me for free. And since it only had chinese subtitles, I had to watch it in dub as my chinese reading skills sucks major ass. It may have resulted in lessening my enjoyment of the show, as they weren't the best dubs I've heard. Luckily they weren't the worst either.
From what I can gather, this seem to continue on from some early Gundam series and eventually can be traced back to the original gundam itself. The original Gundam series was supposedly pretty good, but judging from this the original series had to be a lot better to live up to that kind of praise, because Gundam 0083 is lame.
It may be because I hadn't watched the previous series, but I thought the story was somewhat confusing. This series fails as a standalone series, as it doesn't really provide any background on the seeds of conflict that has obviously been sown previous to this installment. I don't know who this Zeon group is, I don't know where they've recruited this psycho woman from... I don't even know why they're fighting. They're sacrificing their lives for what ideals again??
At the heart of the anime, there are lots of paper thin characters. Knowing full well they're pretty poor, they then sacrificed realism and rationality in order to make them "interesting". As a result we end up with lots of strange twists in the storyline where people made strange decisions to try and spice up the predictable plot.
Having said all this, most of it was still enjoyable to some extent. It's exactly opposite to Gundam Seed Destiny. With Destiny, it was sometimes an effort to watch even though I acknowledge the quality of the anime. With this, even though i knew what I was watching was crap, I can't seem to stop watching it!
The ending was terrible though. If, by some miracle, it managed to resolve anything, I must have missed it.

| The Gundam 0083 series were nothing less than expected. Actually, a bit better than I hoped for. I should mention that you should have watched "Gundam 0079" before watching this one to understand the plot fully.
Already after the first two episodes I felt that this was another hit. And my felings were right. All the way towards the end I followed the plot with big amusement. The end itself was also pretty good. There could have been some improvements to animation and sound quality, and the character designs aren't great, but overall good when you think about how old this series actually is.

| Gundam 0083, is a show that I saw origonally on adult swim a few years ago. I finally was able to see its conclusion and I must say I like it. This show was much better then 0080 which I initially thought was good. This show has an epic struggle taking place, four years after origonal Gundam. If you want to know more read on.

| This is the first older Gundam I've watched and I found it to be a bit hard to watch. For reasons of animation and sound. It is very ancient like.
I watched it in English voice only and for this reason this was really torturous to watch despite how much I tried.
The characters were really hard to like. Unlike Gundam Wing or Seed/Destiny, where the characters have interesting personalities, the characters in this anime don't really change. They don't even have great personalities to begin with. I am used to more character conflicts and internal problems rather than these poorly executed battles.
I am not a fan of pure mecha fights if they don't supplement a good story. This is basically what this is: poor story with poor characters and even worse storyline.

| This is probably one of the best OVAs in Gundam history. The animation is good for 1991. The story was good until the end. It just kind of went south and all. But a lot of action makes up for it. And silly/serious drama in this. The characters could have been better. I wish they would have gone into them more. There is one part where they went into the one armed guy Kelly guy. That was probably the best fight there. Gundam StarDust Memory is a good one to watch. And you can basically watch it over and over if you want. It never gets old. The only thing like I said earlier is the ending. I didn't quite understand it too well. So I'll have to do research on that. But it is a must watch.

| I remember the first time I viewed this OVA. Gundam 0083 was part of Cartoon Network's first full Adult Swim anime block. It aired with Yu Yu Hakusho, Cowboy Bebop, and Pilot Candidate. I had read up a bit on this show. It fills the gap between Mobile Suit Gundam and Zeta Gundam, though it was produced years after Zeta. I guess it was just a side story project that some people at Sunrise were eager to do.
The character designs are fairly standard for shows produced during that time. The art and animation still hold up well. The music fits well. The sound effects are good. The mecha designs are grand. The battles can get pretty intense, too. Plus there's the added suspense that a nuclear warhead adds to the mix. But then, why have I given this show such a low score? Because it's not just wholly derivitive of the original Mobile Suit Gundam series, it's a flat, carbonized copy. Then again, looking back, what was I expecting? The storyline is the backdrop for an event that leads up to the next series. It was filler.
The rivalry between Lieutenant Uraki and Zeon ace Gato is like Amuro and Char, much like flat soda can be compared to perfectly fizzy soda. Certainly any attentive fan can see what an imbecile Kou Uraki is. If even pilots like Amuro Ray and Shiro Amada can hold their own with little training, why can't a highly-trained test pilot like Kou Uraki keep up in an advanced mobile suit? Sure, often his opponent was the fan favorite Anaval Gato, but Kou looked pathetic in almost every battle he entered! Kou annoyed me to no end, and his relationship with Nina seems tacked on merely to fill a need to have a romance in the story. Then there's Gato. Anaval Gato is a fan favorite because frankly, he can kick ass. A lot. But what else is there to him? Character? Angst? Depth? There's something that *resembles* it, perhaps. But it didn't convince me. In the end he comes off as a Zeon robot, without any question to the corrupt forces he works for.
I suppose it wasn't really meant to be anything special, but it did leave a bad taste in my mouth with its ending. Then again, the events at the end of the OVA had to be fulfilled like a prophecy, because this was made long after Z Gundam. And it wasn't all bad. I enjoyed characters like Delaz, Cima, and Burning. Kelly Lazner was an interesting, tragic character. All in all, check this out if you want to see all of UC Gundam. I don't see any other reason, really.

| Even though this OVA series is set at UC 0083, which is before UC 0087 (Zeta Gundam), it is actually made 4 years after Zeta Gundam, kind of like the Star Wars series. This series intends to provide a background on the creation of the Titans, a EFSF military that was in Zeta Gundam.
First of all, the animation is very good consider it is made in 1991. Actions are excellent and Gundam designs are really cool. But that is probably the only thing that this series it excels at. The sounds are acceptable, but characters voices can be better. The story is not that good, as it likes to jump all over the place (wtf is with the love triangle that appears so suddenly, and Lt. Burning's death is needless and stupid!), but since it went through 3 directors before completion, it is something that can't be avoided.
This series probably has the best action and fight scenes, but just don't expect too much from the story.

| The ending of an anime is the part that usually leaves the biggest impression. Fortunately for G0083, the ending was nearly perfect. This is how an anti-climax should be. Instead of dissapointing me, it almost moved me. The anti-climax is that the focus of the whole anime is honour, instead of the usual "Mommy, I'm going to destroy the world!" scenario, which it appears to be, until the very last moment.
Other than that, G0083 is just slightly above par story- and characterwise. The sound has also aged too much. The gunshots of the old Gundam series have been re-used too much. (Fortunately, Sunrise seems to realize this). The sound fits the series, but that's about it. The story only gets a good score because of the ending. Even that could've been improved by making the most dramatic moment of the anti-climax last longer. Unfortunately, it was over in less than two seconds. Other than the ending, the story was pretty much the succes formula most Gundam series are based on. The main character gets a Gundam, so does the bad guy. Throughout the series, these things get upgraded and the main character improves his skill. Later on we get a pretty forced love triangle, which wasn't wrong with the story, it was just too rushed. However, the 13ep format is partially to blame for this.
The characters don't really need any kind of explanation. All of them are without background, and I couldn't care less if one of them died or whatsoever. The love triangle is supposed to make two characters more interesting, but it fails.
Still, I reckon G0083 is a good anime, one that should be watched. Despite the series' overly re-used storyline, it's still good. Don't change a winning formula. That would be the best way to put it. The bright side is that you'll get lost of action, a few good laughs, more action, and in G0083s' case, a great ending.
(This is just something I need to get off my heart -- I've noticed a funny thing amongst most Gundam series. They appear to be a somewhat altered recap of WW-II. The frequently used German naming of either characters or mecha and the winning side using the most cruel weapons (A-Bombs and stuff) only enforces this train of thought. And with stuff like "Sieg Zeon" it's kinda obvious if you ask me. Oh well, at least it's good fun to watch.)

| Even if you didn't touched the Gundam Sentinal, the fabled "Real robo" or "realistic" Gundam series of this long franchise, Gundam 0083 is a good place to begin with.
But, be warned: once you embark on this road there's no turning back, because those other series that used the all too common "invincible NT kid with kick-ass Gundam kick everybody's butt from the get-go" (Gundam Seed included, sorry) plotline would become very lame to you.

| Gundam is just too damn collectible to slip this one up.
I never got around to watching the orginal in subbed, but that in no way destroyed this experience. A gundam with a nuclear weapon who wouldn't want that?
That little love triangle came out of the blue and was rather stupid and, I dare say, silly. No Newtype or super human pilots just guys who become aces based on talent not enchanced abitlites.
Gato is the dumbest soldier in the whole series, ooo...honor yeah you can find that aplenty in an organization that acccepts crimanls and other such scum. Zeon ought to stop lying to itself, there is no honor to be had or defend in war. I'd rather have live soldiers than dead "heroes." The Feddies just keep getting darker and darker...
Recommended to all fans of Gundam, as invincibltiy doesn't really kick in until the end.
Wait minute if Zeon and the Federation have the Technology to build the bomb, woudln't that enusre the idea of mutually assured destruction? Also any one else notice that the Zeon flag looks like the Kreigs Marine flag circa 1935-1945, minus the Iron Cross and the Swastika? We all know how "pleasant" the Nazis were right?
-The point of war is not to die for your country it's to make the other poor bastard die for his.

| Everything about this gundam rocked, except the story ~_~
Animation, sound, characters are all great but the story seems like it looses focus of what's going on several times in the story. Tons of action (which is exactly what I want in a gundam show) coupled with an out-of-the-blue love interest between kou and nina, many many holes in the story, and things happening out of the blue at the end of the series. The introduction of the Titans was confusing (as I dont know who they are or what they're up to) and when you see the very ending sequence you'll ask yourself "wait a minute... what the hell?, i thought she..."
I read somewhere that this project changed production hands many times before its completion so I guess you can put the stories' faults on that. If you dont mind a little swiss cheese with your gundam this should be just for you.

| This being the second Gundam Side Story series I have watched (besides Gundam 0080), I have to say I enjoyed it. Its not as sad or realistic as 0080 but has qualities that make it a great Gundam Series.
First the Animation. For me, I enjoyed it. For its time period (1991 I think) it is really well done and the amount of details in this anime surpasses 0080 and The 08th MS Team. The sound, IMO, was great and I loved the sound of the beam rifles firing.
Story wise, I found it sort of cliched but a lot better then the other Gundam animes I've seen (Gundam X, F91 (ugh), or Gundam Wing). I also like the fact that Kou wasn't a newtype and was more of a normal rookie pilot because I find newtypes to be near invincible in most Gundam animes given that they have the Gundams.
The Gundams on the other hand are some of the best I've ever seen besides the RX-93 in Chars Counterattack. The only critism I have tho is that the RX-78 GP03S seem to be way too powerful along with Gato's mobile armour during the conclusion. They seem to be more powerful than the ones in Zeta Gundam and Z Gundam takes place in 0087, four years after Stardust memory.
I would definitely recommended this to Gundam fans and I recommend renting this even if you don't like Gundams.

| Overall this is an OK Gundam Series. It filled up the 7 year gap between the first Gundam and Zeta Gundam. Too bad that the fight and the war is the only thing interesting in this OVA series. The character development is not great, but rather barely acceptable. The relationship between Gato and Nina is beyond me, since it never explained. The reason why Cima switch side is also not clear (Right now we can only say that Cima don't want to die and that's her reason to switch side.) Still, it's not clear. The relationship between Kou and Nina is OK, but they include Gato at the end, which makes the whole affair confusing. Somehow not necessary.
In general, it serve it's purpose. Recommended for actions only.

| I am not a Gundam lover. Honestly, this is a good anime. But I really hate that Nina purpleton bitch. Artwork here is great but animation is fluid but lacks sharpnest and colours are dull.
Story is the usual gundam fare. I always give Gundam stories 7. Cause they are essentially the same with new characters and twist.
the action and the Gundams are breath taking. Watch this for that. Characters are pretty usual for Gundam. U know the extreme tpye who always shout in warfare even when no one is listening.
Nothing original but among the gundam series I've watch this one goes hand in hand with war in the pocket, MS08 team and Chars counter attack.

| Explains the rise of the titans, so it has some merit. Animation was good for early gundam, but not great. I liked Men of Destiny a lot, but everything else was so-so. Story was rather porous. Characters were a little stale, and it dissapointed me gato was such a blind patriot. While I did enjoy it, it is probably my least favorite gundam OAV.

| I never liked the whole Newtype thing in the original 3 gundam sagas. That being said, I'm glad they kept it out of this one. Like the other 2 U.C OVA's, you don't have to see the original Gundam to see this let alone like the original Gundam. The only problem I really had with this series was that some of the mechs were more advanced than that of Zeta Gundam like the Gundam GP03 which is god-awful ugly in that huge contraption, and that there was too much filler for a 13 episode OVA, other than that, pretty good stuff.

| You must like Mecha, particularly Gundam to like this one at all. Many Gundam fans regard this as one of the better series/OVA's, but I don't. It has great animation and the sound is also well done, but the story and characters, in my opinion, are some of the worst of the Gundam series. The combat and nice Mecha designs partly make up for this.
I am a huge Gundam fan, and I recommend this to any mecha fans, but don't expect a really involving story or characters. If you want your Gundam and a great story, you'll need to watch Gundam 0080 or Zeta Gundam.
