A cute series about a college boy and his adventures with multiple "cyber dolls", including one named May, Hand Maid May is a simplistic and cute series that lacks serious drama, conflict, and romance in exchange for light hearted comedy and hints of romance.

The animation is solid but not great; character models were well done and the use of color was good throughout the series. However, there is nothing about the animation that will wow you, and the cartoony animation at times gets a bit over done.

The OP/ED song is decent but not great, the soundtrack isn't memorable, and a couple of the voices are a bit annoying (Nanbara especially).

The story is simplistic, straightforward and very predictable. There are a couple of plot twists, but they are easily seen through, and the attempts at drama and conflict arn't that interesting.

Also, unlike a series like Chobits, which explores the nature of the relationship between the cyborg Chi and her owner, Hand Maid May does not go to those depths or explore the philosophical aspects of "robot love" that Chobits and other anime do.

Gaping plot holes abound as well, especially when "Commando Z" becomes involved in the storyline near the end of the series.

The characters are fairly bland and very cookie-cutter like. The brainy robot, the child robot, the experienced older robot, and the human girl trying to compete with the robots for Kazuya's affection.

Most of the characters are very one-dimensional, there are so many introduced in the 10 episode series that none, even Kazuya the main character, are really fleshed out too well. Kasumi, the human daughter of the landlady, is really the only character with much depth at all, and she doesn't do too much in the series despite her abundance of screen time. Specifically, though there is a lot of introspection on her feelings for Kazuya, not much conflict or drama occurs because of this.

There isn't much value in this anime unless you enjoy harem animes or light-hearted comedies. I won't be rewatching this anime.

I didn't hate this series, but I just can't give it good scores in the various categories because it just lacks the depth of so many better animes.

Really cute series. I enjoyed it immensely. Harem, ecchi, bishojo. The ecchi is mild; there is a lot more gratuitous ecchi in other series out there. Short series and the story is light, but it isn't insipid. May and friends are all very kawaii. Catchy tunes. I will keep this one in my collection. Imagine Chobits minus its shortcomings and drama, paired with Love Hina and its lighthearted fun. The main guy is even just like Keitaro plus some computer skills.

Highly recommended as a fun romantic comedy.

Hand Maid May is a carbon clone harem story where the Joe Average Saotome has his rival Nambara give him a CD-Rom which contains a virus. It orders a six-inch cyberdoll named May for him. A bill collector comes, and trouble ensues. Saotome can't afford to pay. But since this is a harem anime and the bill collector is female, she lets him keep May because he's TEH SMECKSY.

It's been some years after this was released, but the animation design was still great. They got the shading and lighting and colors right on characters. Everyone also looked very proportionally right. Background is brilliant. There isn't any CG or anything flashy, but I think animation deserved a 10. I was quite impressed with what they have done.

The opening and ending songs are catchy and really nice to listen to. They fit into the anime well. Sound effects are pretty norm for a recent anime, so nothing wrong with that. The in-anime music is okay; there's nothing truly great about them, and there's nothin bad about them too.

This is probably one of the worst stories I've ever watched. Events happen for the stupidest reasons. They don't even seem practical. There's also a lot of questions unanswered, for example, the whole time travel thing and Cyber X. And there's a whole less of exploration of characters. At least the harem isn't very stupid.

Characters are all very lovable. Everyone is adorable in their own way. Plus, there's no bad guy! Everyone is good. This could be a good thing for less violent watchers but bad for action viewers. Some of the characters have nice humorous personailities, but nothing is truly funny.

Hand Maid May is a short anime. Things are shortened, but I felt like almost nothing is left out from what it introduced. I was disappointed that there was a lot of questions unanswered, and that could have been solved by just extended the length. But overall, I liked that the girls are really drawn nice, the harem it has, and the good nature of this anime.

Once in a while, You happen across a show that clearly tells You what it is from a very beginning. Even while reading description You can precisely tell what it is about, and what will be inside. And when You begin to watch it, Your expectations are met.

Prime example of such rare honesty is Hand Maid May. Surprisingly devoid of any 'marketing strategies', this show from the very beginning shouts one thing at anyone who has ears to listen. HAREM.

HMM greatest feat is that it is honest to what it is. With all those hackneyed characters, with trite story and things that are taken out of place and out of time, pulled out like rabbit from a hat, HMM managed to convince me from the very beginning that no explanations will be given.
Knowing that I was able to enjoy it for what it was, hence my high enjoyment for such cheesy, ecchi, harem anime.

Ecchi filled harem anime aren't usually my thing, but I couldn't resist this show as I only paid £8 for the entire region 1 set of DVDs *lol*
Hand Maid May was infact quite a fun, light hearted comedy, which vaguely hints at romance.
Nice animation, lively intro song, cute characters and wacky characters, with a half decent storyline make this a more enjoyable harem style anime show.

Hand maid may was an anime that surprised me many times. at first it seemed like an ecchi anime, then it sort of calmed down a bit. overall, it was really good and has enough diversity to keep everyone of all ages entertained. i was also surprised when may "changed" half way through the series. although there wasnt as much romance as i was hopeing for, it still left me with a nice warm feeling. if you liked chobits and midori no hibi, deffinately check out hand maid may.

Comedy is great, see I don't see why they need to convince a teenager that it's okay to be romantically involved with 8 inch maid. Did they not learn anything from Thumbelina? O... How about that show where there are these giant teenagers and they start smoking and stomping on people... what was the name of that...?? O... You know Ah! My mini goddess is starting to look interesting now...

The biggest problem with this story was that it lacked attention to detail. I haven't looked this up, but I have a theory that it was originally intended to be a longer series but was cut short at the last minute forcing them to cram the story line into 10 episodes.

This seems especially evident in the later episodes, where the plot line will frequently have you scratching your head and saying "Wait a minute... that doesn't make any sense!"

There's nowhere near enough time to include anything but the most rudimentary character development, especially considering how many characters actually appear. That's a shame because some of them look like they could be developed in interesting ways.

Also, if you're good with computers, you'll reach the same conclusion that I did: whoever wrote this is not computer literate!

It starts with the first episode. I thought the description was mistranslated somehow, but it's accurate. You can't even articulate a good response to it, you'll be sitting there saying:

"Okay... it's a virus that can be defeated in such a stupid way... and that somehow accidentally logs you onto a website and orders a robot maid for you?? How.... What... Why.... Oh forget it! I have a headache!!!"

As much as I'm making fun of this series though, I will say that it wasn't a complete waste of time to watch. The stories had some genuinely unique material, and even though the characters weren't well developed they were still interesting enough to watch.

If you have the choice, I'd suggest renting this title rather than buying it. It's good for a one-time watch, but it won't be one of your favourite keepsakes.

A nice anime with lost of ecchi in it. Storyline a bit weak, but better than steel angel kurumi, but below mahoromatic for this type of maid-robot anime.
Worth it if you really like chobits, mahoromatic, steel angel kurumi. Don't expect much even though its much hype about.

Very kind, romantic and funny series, once again exploring man/android relations. A story is a little weird, some things can be explained only with a significant amount of imagination. However, closer to the end it evolved into so very interesting time/characters combination, that previous fan-service is forgivable. Anyway, this is not the point. The point is characters - cyberdolls - which interacts with people and each other in so cute and different ways and have so strange passions and attitudes. And however standard is a main character, May, with all her singlemindedness and positive thinking she definitely will made a way to your heart. You will be offered a question in the end: Had May become a part of your memory? As for me - yes, surely she had.

Though the harem/android maid who does everything for you have been copied over and over again, Hand Maid May certainly provided a really entertaing version of it.

Rather than focus on the romantic aspect between characters, it just create a really funny atmosphere to the viewers and there isn't a whole lot of ecchi in it too!

Characters all have distinct personalities and just a blast to watch them do their thing.

Story only happens during the last 2 episodes, the ending kind of reminds me the manga called A.I. (which is one of the earlier work from the author of Love Hina!) and it is actually done quite well.

Don't expect too much from this anime and you'll have a great fun with it!

Ok, so the android maid thing has been done to death, but Hand Maid May does it with a great deal of style and superb humor.

The characters are all such a riot and the plot itself is so hilarious that you can't help but love this show.

Animation and sound is great, fanservice is pretty low considering the genre, and the ending is pretty good. The OVA is a good addition but not necessary to end the series.

It's a cute little series. I wasn't bored throughout the 11 episodes but the story doesn't offer anything new. And the it also doesn't make much sense at all and logic is all wrong.

Most comedic relief is done by the rival, Numbara (sp?) And he does get chuckle in places.

A guy with 5 female robots and a girl next door. All female is fighting for his affection. Not original and this has been done to death (Love Hina?). Fan services of course is expected but limited to panty and breast shots.

The redeeming factor is the character of May. She does arouse curiosity and you will get attached.

Also, the starting theme is quite catchy.

It not a bad show if you're bored and nothing else to watch. Just don't take it seriously.

Cute!, that summs up "Hand Maid May", the opening is adorable, though when the premis is a 6" tall maid it's hard not to be.

What surprised me the most is how well they did at keeping the cute theme without making you want to gag, it was very well done.

Recomendation: If you like cute it's certainly worth the buy.

Who this is not for: Kids, people who kill kittens and someone who just can't enjoy a good laugh.

For no reason at all, a maid is delievered at Kazuya's house. Ok... the start of this series wasn't the best. This series is another one of those plotless series full of filler episodes. Each episode is may trying to get kazuya to have a use for him. Kazuya gets turned on by a 8 inch tall cyber doll, which I found quite amusing. This series is anther series that is all character interaction. Just funny events happen that will put a grin on your face. Hand maid may is atleast worth a 1 time watch.

OK this anime might be good for the genre, but I'm no fan of the genre so for me this wasnt really good. The story made no sense, it had some nice moments but its completely bland. Characters were better than what I found in Love Hina, so I guess thats an upside. But there is wayy too much fanservice thats tasteless most of the time. I've given this genre a second try after Love Hina and I'm not gonna waste my time watching another one like this, unless a friend gives me his series... that way I wont pay for it lol. I think only people in early teens might find this fun.

One of my personal favorites, it never fails to get my spirits up when I need it... Great animation, brilliant sound, the story is perhaps not perfect, but it is still a lot better than most of you would think! ;-)

Practically a recruiting commercial for lonely men to devote their life to research into artificial intelligence and robotics, because if we succeed in this field, anything will be possible. Robots could be created in any form we like, and behave exactly as we program them to, or if we achieve the ultimate, perfect AI, a new independent life form, and after this, we will be free at last! Don't you people realise this? The future really CAN become something like this if we don't give up, and that's exactly what this show is telling us! There's no END to the possibilities! He he... =)

"If only I could make that..." Wouldn't it be great if "cyberdolls" became a reality? It can be, if we create them! Just watch this amazing show and see how much fun it could be, and then get your degrees in programming and electronics and start building a better world for all of humanity! Let's go "make" some friends! ;-)

"We have a lot of interest in people like you, who devote their life to study." Can it be said more clearly?

If you prefer to watch this "just" for fun, you will still have the time of your life! At least I did (and you should probably be a guy to fully appreciate this, hm?)! =)

This is a straight fanservice anime. Nothing ground breaking about it. After my second time watching through, I found it enjoyable but not rememerable series.

If you're into the 'art' of anime, this series offers strong artistic beauty. It is drawn and animimated well. It has some great back drops such as when they goto the firework show or theme park. They also do people in the background rather well.

The main failing is the story. It takes no risks and seems to revial in its being just being average. The best part of the entire series is the subplot of the soap opara they watch.
