After watching it a 2nd time i gada review it. Hands down one of the top animes. All the characters are entertaining and have their moment in the spotlight. The bad guys are hard to distinguish at times meaning characters have crazy personality's. At the beginning you might think its a childish bunch of crap but after ep 5-ish it really picks up when the hunter exam is started. When you first meet the "bad guy" Hisoka you might think what a retarded looking guy but he because better as the show progresses.

As for the main chars Gon Killua and "the chain user" they each are great. I urge everyone to get this anime from wherever and watch it its a must.

Word of advice the original series is 62 ep long and totally worth it but it has no end watch after the credits in the final episode. There are 3 ova's that complete the series and tie up most loose ends. All except one ^^ lets hope for a part 2!!

Since I'm reviewing it in 2008 (almost 10 years after it's original release), I won't give a ten for animation... But its pretty decent for it's time and it's solid through the whole series.

This it probably my favorite anime of all time.

I watched it for the first time back in 2000, the initial impression wasn't so great, with a little kid dressed in green talking about becoming a hunter... didn't sound like a plot to me.

Boy... was I wrong...

After the 2 hunter exam I was already addicted.. I spent like 15 hours straight watching all episodes I had.

The series is filed with mysteries that get solved little by little... like... what is a hunter?, why hisoka is so stupidly strong? what is nen?, what are the advanced forms of nen? and a lot of other little (or big) plot twists that are presented brilliantly by the author.

I've probably watched this series 1 or 2 times a year since I first got it, adding up to 10-12 times by the time of this review... I can hardly think of any other series with such high value. (Ok, may be G.T.O. ^^)

Hunter X Huner is a must see for anyone who enjoy anime, it's old, but it's still MUCH better than some other shounen anime airing nowdays...

The ovas pick up where the main series stop, and the mangá is still running (very slowly tho') so We'll probably see more Ovas soon! I can hardly wait!

Hunter X Hunter brings back memories, it is the kind of anime that would make you want to rewatch again and again (hence the high value score). Like other reviewers, HxH is NOT about hunters in the forest hunting animals, they are much more than that. This is what that makes it interesting. Being a hunter is probably one who chases after your dreams. Watch the anime to understand the magic of it.

Admittedly, I gave up after watching the first 6-7 episodes at first, but picked it up again after "accidentally" watching episode 15ish (can't really remember). As far as I remember, I did not stop watching it whenever I had free time until I finished all the OVAs too. THIS STUFF IS ADDICTIVE!!!

Animation is pretty decent for a production of its time, hence the good mark. It's opening is one of my favorite songs (along with another opening also from its OVA). Story? I've heard naruto was based on it, so you wouldn't be disappointed if you're a naruto fantic. If you dislike naruto, give this a chance anyway. It's less draggy ^^;

There are four main characters Gon, kirua, Kurapica and Leorio. The story revolves around Gon who wants to look for his father, a hunter. He then joins the hunter exam, meeting all those wonderful people.

I really, really enjoyed this anime. So be patient if the beginning's not what you expected. Hang on, it gets better when the exam really begins.

Hunter x Hunter (the 'x' is silent) gave me an impression of being an anime geared towards kids when I first saw it, but towards the middle of the series I realized that I couldn't have been further from the truth. There are mature themes, the characters are great, the animation is pretty, and the plot is also quite good. Altogether a well balanced, well fitting anime.

This Anime is great, and very addictive. There is a great plot, and the character development is some of the best i have ever seen in any of the anime i have watched. I enjoyed watching this, and would encourage everyone to watch this too. Also the opening and closing songs were really good. i have most of them on my Ipod. This anime series is in the top five of all the anime i have ever watched.

What could someone say about this anime other than it's amazing. I honestly never get addicted about an anime since first of all i'm always selective and discriminative with almost everything, especially anime that pertains to any of the shonen genre, but hunter x hunter after watching 20 episodes a day has somehow converted me. The anime looks so refreshing and different than any other anime.

If anyone reads the story's summary they would probably preconceive that it's about hunting animals or anything else on that same line since the most i read in anime websites are expressed that way, but it's assuredly none of this case. The word hunter probably comes in the context that the characters are searching for their dreams, and some for revenge, and other for wealth and why this name. Gon for instance, he is the main protagonist, he is in search of his father and also to become a hunter. Gon unlike many other protagonist doesn't fall in the concept of always winning against everyone and neither the perpection that he's different than an average person . He's just ordinary and has many flaws. He's however a strong-minded person and sometimes naive and defiant with his beliefs and The other characters including the antagonists are also as great as him. Another thing i like in this anime is the concept of Nen or energy that is also revealed in Dbz and naruto, but it isn't virtually the same. Nen is more complex and understable.

The music is also great. I like how The second opening song goes accordingly with the tone in the fourth arc, dark and unique. I love their voices and especially hisoka's. His voice reflects perfectly the perverted and lunatic behavior that he has. The animation is also great and almost realistic and i also like the fact that it doesn't look immature like naruto.

Hunter x hunter is great and that's what i can tell you.

One of my absolute favourite series, and definitely the best Shounen around. The only thing to complain about with HxH would be it's slow start... Even though I'm an avid fan since long now, it took me at least a couple of episodes before I was beginning to get hooked.
I'm really and lacking of words to describe how much I long for Togashi Yoshihiro to get well so he can continue with the manga (of course for his own health's sake, as well, but that pretty much goes without saying) so that we can all enjoy the next story arc as another OVA!

With every other Shounen I've read or seen (namely Naruto, One Piece, Yu Yu Hakusho, Dragonball and probly some random others) I've felt that they drag on.. Things just don't happen... Battles go on for forever, for no real reason... etc, etc.
But with HxH, everything just flows smoothly and quickly, never once losing pace but at the same time never going too fast.

Overall, an exceptional anime and a must-see for at LEAST those who like Shounen, though I'd recommend it to everyone.

A good Series.
this is based on the series alone, Ova's Not included

Once you start watching you'll be hooked. It started off a little slow but quickly picked up the pace and became action packed. Taking the year into account i must say the animation was quite pleasing. It didnt really have flashy effects but it served its purpose.

Soundwise i didn't care much for the op and end but meh everyone has their own opinions. The SFX seemed to match well with the actions and the seiyu seemed to capture the character perfectly.

The ending is what ruined it for me. To me the series was going great, it had so much potential, until I finally checked how many episodes were remaining. when you get to arround episode mid-50s you'll also come to the sudden horrible realization that theres no way they can end things well, and cover up the loose ends of the story. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING IS RESOLVED!!!!!!GAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, for all the Major Characters and even most of the minor (not including the nameless extras) their problems still remained more or less the same regarding what their difficulties were from when you first met them. This series left so many loose ends, At the end of the series i was speechless. The End is probably the most important part. Whenever you go to a movie, you go to see the ending. Its like those terrible "to be continued"s from our childhoods. To me there shouldnt be a need for additional OVA. the series should cover what it placed out.

In terms of character developement there really isnt much. gon remains the happy go-lucky-son goku-esque character he started off as. Very Little is developed about Leorio, Kurapica may be the only exception. They reamin pretty close to the character they were introduced as.

placing the ending aside, i must say i really enjoyed the series. it had its moments when you worry about the characters, and when you laugh alongside them. Its hard to turn it off once youve started watching. (I watched it within 2 days) :P . Its a must watch

Hunter x hunter definitely is a must-see anime and one of the best if i should say actually. Although at some extent it could say to be old, but it still stands higher than any anime that has come out lately.

The story is definitely one of the greatest aspects of it. It never drags at all and there are no fillers which is quite rare actually for an anime who reached over 50 episodes. The fights are also great and they don't also drag, unlike a certain naruto who always dragging continuously on more episodes.

Although the story is led by two kids, killua and Gon, it doesn't appear at all like the juvenile genre. It's really mature and the target audience is probably over 17+, it's really hardcore.

The other great aspect of this anime it's the characters. they don't come at all like any we've seen so far in other anime. The villains are more emotionally concerned to their surrounding , they don't kill for no reasons. There are also no side characters, everyone's important as anyone else, whether you're the antagonist or the other.

The animation is also perfect, although the art appears a little old in the beginning. The sounds are also great and i love the openings and the endings they are quite unique.

hunter x hunter is really an enjoyable anime and anyone who've seen it so far have also told that it's great. Unfortunately the serie is imcomplete, however it still continues in the manga.

Hunter X Hunter is a pretty good, and very addictive, anime. I don't quite agree with the extremely high score it has, but it's not way off. Since they say Naruto practically is based upon this anime, I'll pick up the tradition and compare according to my views.

Firstly, the art of this anime fits my taste almost perfectly. The animation is not superb but pretty damn close at times. All main characters are nicely drawn, and sub characters are, while generic, not bad looking. The animation is one point where HxH is in a different league than Naruto, most of the time. Some fights in Naruto is better than anything in HxH, though.

The sound is... neither good nor bad. The opening and ending themes didn't bother me, but they were not good, either. The music during the series, however, is one of the truly weak points. To compare with Naruto, which soundtrack is borderline genius, the HxH-soundtrack is just lame. You barely notice it, as it sounds like some random employee sat down a few minutes with a synth, producing music sounding like a SNES RPG at best. The voices are good, and while we're comparing to Naruto, I might as well mention the obvious fact that both main characters are voiced by the same girl! HxH takes this method one step further, though, and let girls dub three of the four male characters in Gon's party. Personally, I think Naruto has a slight edge when it comes to the voice acting.

The story really has its ups and downs. I hate to say it, but the first episode introduction is just piss poor. But then again, many animes start off pretty odd and turns out really good when the wheels start turning. And so does Hunter x Hunter. While the first episodes leave you worrying about Gon's mental health, the series quickly become quite addictive, and eventually, the story even becomes interesting. Then why have I given it a six? Because to me, the end is most important. The middle part of the series was good, planting a ton of potential into the series. However, a LOT of parallell plots branch out and never conclude. They just vanish, which is VERY frustrating. Instead of ever truly finishing anything, new things get introduced, which is interesting but only up to a point. If you do not include the OVAs, then the series consists of a constant rise of tension with no realease and climax, which sucks. If you do include the OVAs, some questions get bad answers, and is then replaced by other questions which aren't answered, which sucks even more. If the plot had progressed in a more logical fashion, I would've given it 9 or 10. If only at least the main plot had concluded, I would've given it an 8. But I believe there is reason enough to deduct an additional two points from the story due to the fact nothing really ends, and there you have my 6.

Many of the important characters are very well designed, and have really interesting backgrounds which open up a few additional side stories. Characters like Killua, Kurapika and Hisoka are very interesting and three-dimentional, while Leorio and unfortunately also Gon are plain boring. Gon is very similary to Son Goku from Dragonball: a 100 % pure hearted fighting super-genius, and nothing more.

Overall, HxH is a pretty good, but not very good, experience. You're guaranteed to have a good time if you like shows like Naruto (and yes, Naruto has downright copied some stuff). I personally don't think HxH is superior to Naruto, though. While HxH eventually builds up a plot with more potential than Naruto, potential means nothing if not realized. If you read my review and watch the show, you'll probably think "boy, was that dude wrong or what?" When you're out of episodes to watch, however, and all that remains is the echo of a hundred unanswered questions, you'll probably come to a similar conclusion as I did.

Overall: 8

I must admit, i can't get enough of Hunter x hunter. Yes, even with 92 episodes. I wish it would just go on and on. I started watching because of this current surging hype that is saying it is better than naruto, and man, you can't really call youself an otaku these days if you have not seen this just like if you haven't seen Rurouni Kenshin, or Naruto for that matter. Its popularity is still in the dark but all the people who have seen it also enjoyed it and i can see why. The package was perfect; great story, great music, great animation, who wouldn't fall for it?

Putting in words to describe how much i love this anime, it's almost literally impossible. This anime is the example enough to where i think Naruto and Bleach failed to convey a really captivating profound storyline. Actually you could also say that HxH is the mature version of these two shows i just mentioned.

HxH has a really addictive story, it never gets boring and the end of each episodes and arcs always leave to a cliff-hanger. HxH also has An unpredictive storyline that really gets confusing quite sometimes. Like for example, how they carried out just until after the first arc to introduce the generality about Nen which is in fact the Highlight of the most part. Nen, it's like chakra(Naruto) but more thoroughly explained and logical. Though Nen it's highly emphasized in the story, but actually It's the hunters. Hunters are like rare a breed, always searching for the unknown or basically something to live for. Money, Revenge, Glory, They all attract a person to be a hunter.

Four characters particularly highlight the story who are in need to become hunters. Gon, a simpleminded person who always attract people to his entourage and is becoming a hunter because he wants to find his dad. Killua, he may seem sometimes like a natural little boy, but truthfully his character darkened the whole plot. He is actually becoming a hunter in trying to stray away from his dark state. Kurapika, an avenger and her feminine traits can sometime be really perplexed since he is actually a man. He is becoming a hunter in terms so he could revenge for the death of his clan. Leorio, little seem to know about this guy rather that he had a friend and he died because Leorio had no money to hospitalize him and which is why leorio is becoming hunter in chances that one day he could become a doctor.

Hunter x hunter has an amazing Fighting structure. Unlike the naruto we all know, they actually take their time to explain everything. Their fighting capacity or level are nothing exaggerated. There ins't anything like for example because you are the protagonist, it means that you are unvulnerable to everybody. Having this said i can directly say that Their fighting too are deep and amazing!!

The animation quality it's all someone could ask, but don't forget this anime like One piece and naruto they all started in the year of 1999 and at that time the animation was never that great.
It was only after a few episodes that we see the designs and everything are starting to improve. The first episode of Pokemon and the last current episode can also be brought as an example. Aside that i can just say everything is just perfect.

The soundtracks are also amazing, they connect to the very trend of the theme of the anime. Their voices are all unique and the Ops/eds are one of the best i've heard.

I totally recommend this anime and if you like Death note or Fullmetal alchemist, then this anime is all you could ask for.

As everyone seems to compare this anime to Naruto, I will do so as well.

In contrast to Naruto, this series has a superior story. Its story does circles around Naruto's due to its intensity. The drama involved and the suspense used to bring forth the drama severely topples Naruto's shotty story.

Secondly, the animation is much better in HxH. Yes, I did say the animation is better. Many disagree, but they have two elements mixed up. There is Animation (fluidity of motion, fps) and there is Artwork (the style used to draw and color the characters). Naruto does have better Artwork, but the animation is only sub-par compared.

The sound, as far as I can remember was fitting to the story, but not remarkable.

The characters are excellently done. I loved learning more and more of each of the main characters. Think the rivalry if Sasuke vs Itatchi is good? Well, its nothing when compared to the rivalry between Killua and Irumi.

Value and enjoyment were also excellent. However, if I were to include the OVA's score in to this, I'd have to lower that score by a substantial amount. HxH's quality dramatically declines with the beginning of the GI OVA's. The artwork does get better, but the Animation suffers and mostly, the story becomes agonizingly boring.

Unfortunately, IF, another season ever comes out, watching the OVA's will probably be a must.

Great anime. If you enjoyed Naruto, you will enjoy this one as well.

hunter x hunter is often compared with naruto and i think hxh wins in every part. okay the animation may be not as good as in naruto but its from 1998 so i wouldnt count it.

hunter x hunter is about a little boy called gon who is in search of his father. his first step is to take the hunter exam which his father took.

in this exam gon makes friends and they go through difficult situations.

the characters are very well done. gon and killua are not the strongest and have to battle very hard to survive. these close fights are very tensive and you never know what will happen next.

what i learned from hxh is when there are to waysto choose you should take the third one :-).

everyone that wants to know where naruto writers get their ideas from should watch this and i would say if you like narutoi you love hunter x hunter.

First let me emphasized this fact that huntexhunter ins't about Animals at all and nothing actually that would come close to it.

HXH is probobly my favorite anime of all time. The story sucks you right in with every loveable character and a fairly good soundtrack. The storyline is plain superb with lots of in depth characters which really grow on to you as they age through the episodes. I'd have to say that it's impossible to dislike HXH except for that the story never really ends it seems. .

Note: this review is for Hunter x Hunter TV and its 3 OVAs.

In the weird world, full of atrocious beasts and monsters there are adventurers. People who hunt for unknown treasures, ruins or even food. People who try to harbor the balance of the world, people who hunt criminals for money or fame. They are the Hunters. Hunter in a world of Hunter x Hunter is not a person who catches wild animals, it's an ultimate form of adventurer, even ninjas would love to be Hunters, yet only the very few chosen ones can become one. To become a Hunter one first has to overcome an insanely strict Hunter exam, which is so dangerous that most of the contenstants die before its end.

To tell you the truth, I had the lowest expectations of Hunter x Hunter, just after hearing its name I decided that it's an extremely lame show. Furthermore, I believed that the so called Hunters are, well, hunters of the animals, so I thought I'll be forced to watch how do they hunt beasts all the time. To my huge fortune it turned out that I was very wrong. Not only the show proved to be interesting, but it was quite intelligent as well, at least the latter half that is.

Very well developed characters and an interesting very imaginative and original story is what makes this show so pleasant. At the moment the extremely popular show - Naruo, has ripped quite a few details from the Hunter x Hunter. It's hard to believe to be a mere coincidience. As for example one character, Kurapica, in the Hunter x Hunter not only has very similar past to the Sasuske, but has red eyes which are very similar to sharingan. The whole exam thing in Naruto and most of the objectives are extremely similar to the ones of Hunter x Hunter. While in my opinion, exam time, was one of the weakest parts of the Hunter x Hunter it proved to be one of the best in Naruto. In other words, the worst Hunter x Hunter has to offer is as good as Naruto ever could.

If you like pure shounen genre (Rurouni Kenshin, Naruto, Tenjou Tenge, Bleach), then this show is one of your best candies. In my opinion it is only second to Rurouni Kenshin in terms of shounen (which ironically is directed by the same person). Though if you value brash fighting over philosophy, then this might be superior even to Rurouni Kenshin for you.

I have never encounter another anime that could at least measure up to the calibre of this anime. Not only the story is addictive but also of great value. I watched this anime already 4 times and i'm still not bored from it. The simple view of it it's that all the characters are loveable and i wouldn't imagine a better story. Gon for a main character almost look like a teady bear, he's very cute and i love that stability that he has that attract people around him. He's always excited and ready to fight someone while he actually doesn't hold a great ground of capacity. The story in fact route around him in his adventure to find his father and also to become a hunter. To become a hunter he would have to pass through numerous test. However it is the coming of the other characters that are introduced in the hunter Exam that complicates and moves the plot to like a new light. Killua a born assasin with an avenger kurapica and a doctor leorio. They all eventually become friend of Gon but each one of them pursue their own dream on being a hunter . The story doesn't hold any past and just continue on the present. There aren't any flashblacks or any fillers that would drag ou the story. The only flaw this anime could have it's of lack of drama. Everything follows too straightforward and never really ends too dramatically, although some scenes are really said to be captivating. The plot just flot into a serious atmosphere but since the story is still incomplete nothing can really be said.

The animation is quite you would find likeable even though the serie is really hold. I really love the world of this anime and if we leave some supernatural stuff aside, everything will look pretty similar to a realistic world. As good animation comes, the songs too are amazing. The first opener theme song is quite memorable and it really percieves the meaning of the plot.

Simply by looking at the majority of positive reviews this anime have, it's more obvious that it should be recommended and i find it to be still the best anime at this present time. If you aren't already drawn by the beginning of the story then it's possible that you won't get through the rest since the beginning itself it's completly different to what the story develop in the middle. The development in fact is the key to what i find this anime so great. basically you won't find a better story than Hunterxhunter.

Hunter x hunter is one of my favorite shounen anime and it will always be. I have been a dead-serious fan since its first episode release and through all those years i haven't lost any interest.

Animation:
The animation is quite perfect. It's first chapter look a little outdated but it does improve. The characters appareances also look great and basically like it is something compared during this present day.

Sound:
Hunter x hunter have the best vocals performance in anime and also because it's very unique. They don't sound like any other characters would do in a different anime. Every voice associates with each character in term of attitudes or behaviors. The soundtracks are perfect, especially the ones played in the York shin Arc. They were really dark and hyped like if it were originally a theme for Gambling, Assasination and Mafia movements. The anime also has the best opening songs and endings which they are also one of my favorites.

Story:
The story ins't like any others, it doesn't drag out on just one conception. Though the theme of this anime is about friendship but everything is explored to different aspects. The first arc is about being a hunter, the second is about exploring what it is needed to be a hunter, third and last to live as a hunter. Being a hunter can either be fortunate or hazardous depending on where you stand. Even a simple course could lead to the extension of a greater misfortune. This basically quest about finding someone's father may sound so juvenile since it's led by the entourage of two kids but in contrary this anime is very hardcore for its genre. Killing is like a new word in this anime, whether you're on the side of good or evil, the lust to kill follow onto every characters. The theme may be about friendship but the word survival also comes in terms. It's like survival and friendship and everything else in between.

Character:
The characters too are great and since i've already pointed out how their vocals match every characters. Besides if you have ever wanted to hear how a psycho perverted guy sound then this anime is totally yours. Hisoka is one of the best villain in anime, his attitude is very unique and i love that substance which his concept ins't only to oppose the main character. The lead character Gon is hust a simple-minded fellow, he always act friendly but fighting-wise he may be one of the most evolving skilled hunter. Gon on his course to find his father, befriended with an assasin, an avenger, and a soon-to-be a doctor, Killua, Kurapica and Leorio.

Value:
This anime is just great and i think it should be the best recommended in the shounen genre. Besides it's not always to an anime so addictive since every bit detail it's an addiction. And i hear people comparing hunter x hunter to Naruto and bleach (*Laughs*) and for this matter i heartily contradict this statement. Hunter x hunter is just too unique to compare to any type of anime.
