| If Madhouse has ever created a bad anime, this would have to be it. From lackluster characters, a confusing storyline, sub-par animation and character voices that would make even the youngest anime fan cry. Jubei-chan the Ninja Girl: Secret of the Lovely Eyepatch should be seen with the music down and both eyes closed.

| In short, Jubei chan is like Excel Saga with samurais and ninjas. with a somewhat inconsitent but somewhat wacky comedy being its appeal here. You will find it struggling to see if this aniem appeals to you.
Fortunately, Jubei chan does some thigns right, like Excel Saga's comedy its a mix bag, you either like it or hate it. You would like it because it goes completely off the mark sometimes, or you hate it because its way too random and breaks the tension sometimes. I liked say about 50% of the comedy on offer here, theres a comforting sense of not trying too hard for comedy but also not too stretched out play for some parts.
Next is its action, for a ninja show, action is a pretty key factor and all in all, Jubei chan keeps things, nice and short. Not sweet or outstanding though, just nice. The battles are generally a short affair, with most ending in no more than a minute or less. If you were looking at Jubei chan for an action fest prepare to feel disappointed.
Next, characters, ok. Side characters, they can die off, they provided very little entertainment value and had virtually no purpose.. other than annoy the viewer. The main characters however and support characters, were good. Jubei with her dad, Sai, were great and the show convinced me that this show was really abotu them than the comedy or action value this show had. Somewhat teary but never over-played, the chemistry between fatehr and daughter here really stands out, thoguh the romance between Jubei and the twins never really shone through for me. Jubei on the other hand, her self-development to become err.. Jubei, is somewhat a forced but entertaining affair which leads her to be urinal head n one episode which was hilarious.
Other than that though, this anime does thigns decently, not amazing but definetely watchable and likeable to a degree even if it can annoy you with some of its characters or jokes.
Overall: 7.5/10
Grade: B
PS: Sweet dreams and memories, forever.. forever! That song rocks :)

| Jubei-Chan was a good show i had the opportunity to watch recently.
It's basically the story of Jiyu Nanohana, a girl who acquieres the legendary Jubei Yagyu's "lovely eye patch" which transforms her into a the female version of that samurai, as Jubei
she battles a fallen clan of warrios that have been having a grudge against Jubei for 300 years and are after her head.
The story is nice, nothing complicated or terribly deep, but fun tu watch.
The characters are definetely the most powerful aspect of the show, since they're just plain fun and adorable.
This is mostly a comedy show, and while the humor is strange, I found myself grinning and laughing most of the time, since it actually struck my fancy...seriosuly, the characters are crack!
lots of fun and stupid(in a good way) momens await.
but still behind all the comedy some credible and memorable characters are formed, especially Jubei/Jiyu, Sai, her father and Koinosuke, Jubei Yagyu's servant.
The music is very good with some memorable themes but i felt it still needed a bit more variety.
Animation is hard to judge, since they is a lot of crude animation but almost always it's paired up with humor moments and it actually contribtutes to more laughs.
Non comedy animation is ok, and swordfight animations are well done, but they could've been a bit more striking.
I really enjoyed this show and i'm anxious to watch the second season, which i hear is a lot better!!
If you like strange humor/action or Ranma or those kind of shows i reccomend this wholeheartedly, it's just fun, fun!

| At first, Jubei sounded like a fun show. After all, up until the point that I decided to watch it, my only real entry in this genre, ninjas specifically, not counting samurai anime, was Ninja Scroll. I was initially a bit put off by the fact that this show leant more towards the comedy side, mostly just because at that particular time I was more in the mood for something serious. In any case it came as somewhat of a surprise that I enjoyed the first few episodes. The gags were sharply on queue and witty, but despite the initial entertainment, it began to get a little stale as time went on by.
I think comedies become successful for two reasons, fresh, well executed jokes, and characters that don't come from some assembly line of archetypes.
I think the creators tried to make something with a somewhat interesting narrative and at the same time create a competent comedy, however with the passing of episodes, certain faults start to come through that gives the viewer an impression of imbalance, particularly when they try to shove another gag there to try and distract from this fact.
That's the problem with Jubei, sure it's funny to start off with, but after a while, when jokes get recycled, it feels really sloppy when the characters aren't able to stand on their own.
Let's look at Jubei herself, not a character I could sympathize with. Playing with the "I've been given a great responsibility and it's so overwhelming I'm not sure what to do" angle, instead of portraying her as a regular person that just has difficulty accepting and coping with her new found abilities, she comes across as more of a completely selfish girl who ends up doing things purely as a means to an end as opposed to a way so that everyone benefits. With this in mind, it's very unconvincing when this character then has the trademark "moment of enlightenment" near the end.
In fact the only characters that show any sign of genuine and appropriate emotion are Hajime(I think I mixed up the names here) and Jubei's father. Even so, most of the time they have to play second fiddle to Jubei's abundant presence. How can you let the secondary cast be better built than the title character?
In any case everyone else really is just there to fill the background and to poke fun at themselves. I just really wish they excluded that horrible woman and her literally cardboard cohorts that kept stalking Hajime. Which leads me to my next point.
Alright, I understand that the awkward and at times absolutely nausiating character designs, were done on purpose, but again, this was poorly executed and started to feel stale after it got mentioned time and time again. At one point, a character mentions how he's being drawn poorly since he's not important anymore, damn funny. Few episodes later it happens again, alright, deserves a chuckle. But a third time? Even though it is from other characters, and not directly implied, it's still poor use of what was at first, a very good gag.
So at the end of the day, that's all Jubei really was, a collection of witty gags portraying a genuinely funny show, disguising a semi-interesting script underneath. It just wasn't mixed all that well.
Personally, not in a rush to see the second season.

| Jubei-chan the ninja girl meant for humor purpose with random transformations happening all the time. Looking back, I don't know why I ever put up with watching this in class. Imagine this... some girl with latent power gets the help of some legendary swordsman. However, in her transformation the image of a heart eyepatch comes up over here eye.
How serious can this be?
As for jubei-chan herself (whatever her real name is), she doesn't have much in terms of character. She's a very stereotypical school girl and its just some humorous twist meant for no purpose. Especially with the whole "Lovely eye patch" thing. However when she does revert into that mode, the action that results is kind of interesting, but that's about it.
I don't appreciate/enjoy this anime's style of conveying humor, which heavily relies on awkward moments and a naive but somewhat ditzy girl. Furthermore, the animation is ugly, the scenes dull, and in the end there is no "moral of the story". It is just one of those animes that can be lumped into one all-encompassing generic boring anime category.

| I really liked this. The story is average, but what makes this good is the chracters. Most of them are lovable. I really liked Koinosuke and the unrefined trio. The ending was fully satisfying. The comedy was very funny at times, I liked the slapstick stuff. It remained very funny till the end, even, though it was serious. Seriously, a very good title

| I really liked this series. Even though at times in the middle it seemed alittle repetative it picked up and i enjoyed it to the end. Theres no real deep plot. It mostly of a kill the bad guy plot. But besides that its really good. Lots of funny parts, and good action sences. All in all I really enjoyed this series and my friends that showed it too really liked it also. I would suggest this to anyone who likes an anime that has comedy and action in it, or if you just want to watch a good series.

| This definitely falls under the stupid comedy kind of anime. Its funny for so So many dumb reason. Even if there is almost no plot, the overall story is a bit lacking, and the animation isn't exectly all that. (Althrough the fight sence looks really cool) =)
If you like comedy and action and doesn't matter if it has no plot or storyline. You'll like this one. =)

| Generally, i would say this series has a BIG heart.
First, animation: initially i didn't really like it, but then it gradually grew on me, and i think i know the reason, it's because the animation here formed an identity for this series. From the character design to the crude humoristic scenes, this type of animation belongs to THIS series, and i really care if a series sets itself apart by its art style. Thumbs up.
Sound: the theme song and the ED share the same advantage as the animation, they are very memorable, and the moment you hear each one of them you'll recognize the series, if you actually care about music in anime of course. BUT, the BGM wasn't that memorable, some particular scenes could've been carved in my mind if there was memorable music to back it up. But still, i found it good enough to get a 7.5,,, The voice acting might prove to be annoying to some, but i thought it was from the HEART.
Stroy: though the first 3 eps aren't introduced with that good of a story, but it then starts to build up to some unexpected events, and eventually it becomes more about people's feelings rather than "monster of the week" theme. What I particularly find to be superb is the background information that was provided for the history of Jubei and her father. It delves as deep as possible for a 13 eps series into the feelings of those two to make us remember this series for a long time. I was extremely touched by the storyline, and i am not easily touched.
The characters are good, each one had a definite role to play, and NOBODY grated on my nerves which i highly appreciate, so i would say a 7 for all characters other than Jubei and dad. That brings me to talk about those two, i say thier father-daughter relationship is one of the deepest and stronget ones i've seen in a long time. It was well portrayed with enough background and emotion to make me easily get concerned about both. Each one of them is also lovable in thier own way. Jubei has a BIG heart, but she is also human and her human feelings show in a very realistic way. Her father was a REAL father, and very emotional with a refreshing character. Both together gave me a very pleasurable experience. I would give those two's relation a 9.5, since i was very deeply touched by them.
I will remeber this relationship for a long time, as it really left something inside my heart, so thier is a lot of value to this series to me. Also, some of the jokes here are quiet memorable, and even the rest of the cast has this wacky lovely feeling about them that will last a while with me, if not more.
I really enjoyed the second half particualrly. if you're willing for some patience in the early eps, you WILL be rewarded with great character development. But if you really couldn't bear the voice acting, then it would be recommended that you don't watch any more, because it's ain't changing!
Thank you director Akitaro Daichi, for such a lovely series and for your big heart.

| A totally wacky action comedy with a lot of heart. Jubei-chan was a real fun anime with a fairly good storyline and extremely great comedy supported by some of the funniest characters I've ever seen. From Koinosoke's persistance to Shiro's confidence, you'll come to love them all. At first the series gave me the impression of the "Assassin of the week" format but thankfully when the story goes in full swing it really hooks you in and it becomes highly addictive.
One of the finer points of this anime is definitely the fine balance between the humour and the drama... even though the humour would come at the most unlikliest of parts it never feels out of place.
A definite watch for any action comedy fans who are in the mood for more laughs than action in this case.

| this is a great show. silly, and serious. comedy, and drama, both a bit overdone, but on the whole, good stuff.
Quite funny at times, and yet it brought a tear to eyes a few times. Jubei-chan is my new favorite anime girl. :)
the show is good, because somehow, the characters really work, and you become connected to them, and therefore care about what happens.
a must see.

| This series tore me apart, in that it went from the really funny to really serious (and alternated between the two, although less funny near the end). What can I say, the funny parts were really funny (or wacky) and the serious parts felt like it was well done....and they're both in the same show! Gotta love Jiyu. Recommended.

| Jubei-chan is one of those shows where the sum is greater than its parts. The basic concept is simplistic and never gets very far, the humor as well is pretty simple, and none of the characters are particularly well developed.
More on the humor, since it is a comedy piece: Some of the things that are supposed to be funny get old, and others fall flat on their face, but you have the occasional moments are pure comedic genius, and what more can you ask for really?
A great deal of the not laugh out loud but more tongue in cheek humor is parody/spoof, which the seasoned anime veteran will enjoy, but I can't really say it matters too much to the show itself. The spoofing is not so good that it can stand on it's own merit, to be sure. It's pretty hard to miss, however, considering the opening sequences of the show spoofs a couple of anime and samurai flick cliches right off the bat...but then again half the movie theatre didn't understand Kill Bill was spoofing either. Also note that there appears to be a great deal of punning in the show. Frankly, given my limited Japanese, noticing any puns at all means they're probably throwing more than I could stomach if I actually knew them all.
But it came along at just the right time for me. It's a light, fun romp that is neither pretentious nor is it self-mocking.
You get the idea. A nonserious, non-ground breaking half-parody anime piece that's just meant to be a little funny, a little dramatic, and mostly brain relaxation material. I recommend it highly if you're in the right mood, despite there being literally dozens of animes that are better.

| Surprisingly a remarkable show. Excellent humor, action sequences, art, and sound.
Several common plot points are satirized rather than cliched, like why the hero is the hero, what happens at the end of a fight, etc, and it's usually quite clever. It makes for a very satisfying plot, even though it's the same one that's been done a thousand times.
A lot of the comedy is original too, and great. I love the shirt that changes words according to the situation, along with the whole Jubei fan club, and the frequent use of Jubei's father and his samurai fiction.
The second season is good too but not at quite the same level yet.

| As you can see from my rating, this was not one of my favorites. The story was alright, but not as interesting as other ones. I wouldn’t be able to compared this anime to any other ones that I had seen before; this anime is unique in its own ways. There are some boring parts about it, and there are some humor in some scenes where they make fun of Jubei’s breasts. It does take some time to get used to the story and stuff.

| While Jubei-Chan does not excel in any perticular category, it does combine a mix of good animation with an innovative and off the wall approach to comedy. In fact, I was put off by this show a bit at first. However the characters managed to cause spontanious bursts of laughter on my part due to crazy humor that takes place. The short series becomes serious at times and even action oriented, but its the visual humor which kept me coming back.
It should be noted that the sequel to Jubei-chan manages to up the ante even further in the comedy and animation department. Don't watch it with out giving the first season a shot.

| Jubei-chan is a really nice series. Its appearence might be a bit deceiving and make you think it's some ultracute series with a pink heart-shaped eye-patch. But it also has some nice ninja action and surprising twists in the plot. There are also a lot of hilarious moments with the three "Ruffians". Animation and sounds are both well-made.
And because Jubei has a reference to Finland, it gets a billion bonus points and a parrot (guess what country I'm from :-)

| Jubei-chan is definitely worth watching. There's a lot of truly hilarious stuff in here. Sadly, sometimes the animation gets really primitive, to the overall detriment of the series. Also, some of the later episodes are nauseatingly sappy. Actually, I didn't even quite get to the end of the series because I flew into a rage at the third or fourth-to-last episode.
But, well, the scenes with Bantaro, Ozaro and Kozaru alone make the anime worth watching.. that and the hilarious benki-mask.
