| This anime is about 2 honor students who seemed to be perfect in any other peer, teacher's and/or stranger's eyes. Unfortunately, as this world is, nothing is perfect.... This anime is a psychological anime, that deals with people's inner thoughts, motives, fears, and goals. Personally, I loved the way this anime depicted people's inner world, interactions between the people, and the different life stories that were carried by different individuals.
Animation: a very original animation: aside from the usual drawn animation style there were a few episodes that used the paper dolls, other episodes were designed as a manga slide show. Personally, I enjoyed the animation style up to the 17th ep. or somewhere along there, where the animation style became too weird for my tastes.
Sound: Note I watched the English dubs that were WAY better than the subs. I loved the main characters' voices: they sounded so mature, calm, playful >> they were just perfect. The music was outstanding as well. There was one musical theme that amazed me (I think that it emerged at ep. 2, a couple minutes just before the ending) + I am not a fan of listening of OP or ED, but this anime's ending music was just fabulous. Listened so many times and still did not get enough.
Story: the main story dealt with Yukino Miyazawa and Souichirou Arima, by showing their different approaches to the certain situations, their feelings, thoughts, experiences. Basically, their 2 different worlds that interacted with each other, changing their both worlds along with their relationship. Also, the story depicted other people experiences and thoughts relating to their experiences. It really was an interesting story. Unfortunately, I found some of the episodes and some of the scenes not to my liking (recap parts and the whole episodes, or some of the actions that I found to be annoying).
Character Design: well, as I mentioned earlier, this anime is a psychological anime that dealt with the character inner worlds and their interactions. Therefore, the character development is very strong.
Value and Enjoyment: overall, I liked this anime and I am glad that I watched it.
If you are looking for the psychological anime, this one is worth giving a try.

Lost among the many pseudo-gems lately produced by Gainax (that excludes Tengen Toppa), Kare Kano did not age as well as I thought it deserved to be.
Even more obvious is that it's predecessor, Evangelion, is definitely still in line with the latest anime craze and is considered by most as one of the greatest landmarks in TV animation. Strangely enough, that was completely meant to be...until I came across this other Gainax lovechild.
That is to say from an subjective standpoint because otherwise it would have not been that abandoned and shunned from the mainstream. In any case, I haven't seen any figurines nor 10th anniversary DVDs (not like that matters a lot) that verifies Kare Kano has been brought back unto the commercial surface. Still, this little sucker deserved a place alongside if not exceeding Eva's tenacious (though not wholly deserved) stature.
I wonder...what could have gone wrong? Is it the crass and abrasive visual style? Is it the annoying recaps possibly precluding the enjoyment of the succeeding episode? Or is it the nonsensical and empty ending? If there is a "yes"...then lemme tell you,"so what"?
The show should be viewed more than what it shares. It is an interpretative medium of stirring emotions (the first being love above all others), delinquency, hesitations, maturity and, of course, youth. Kare Kano just exudes freshness in approach to what these themes suggest about us humans...whether in the prospect of being loved in return or basically acknowledging the special feelings one has to accept before confronting the other. The Yuki-and-Suichiro tandem's repartee is certainly a joy to watch, whereas the duo's most intimate and pivotal moments are an impetus to empathy...I don't just get to feel the same way with other anime couples. The series removes all the cheese.....and saves all the spices: humor, the best.
In short, Kare Kano (or to be more familiar, "His and Her Circumstances"), is drama at its finest. REAL drama. Ignore the pretentiousness of Gainax's more renowned pet project; this is the real heart-thugger.

| Finishing rewatching Kare Kano a few days ago. Both watches gave me a refreshing feel. This review is based of just the two time I watch this series.
Genres:Comedy,L-R and School life
Comedy-Didn't laugh at all, won't deny the smiles of course. The jokes are relatively boring,e.g when Yukino is at home on her other side. While I like the part when having all smiles on her face, she actually is laughing sneakily on the back. That was rather funny. However,on the whole, nothing extraordinary.
School Life L-R-One thing best about Kare Kano had got to be the school life love story between our main characters,Arima and Yukino.Generally,I say it sweet.Sweet when they got together in the beginning, sharing their secrets, etc. But it is a pity that the ending is inconclusive.Ending really have a lot of room for improvement,groan...I really like this couple.
Through the time when I rewatch Kare Kano,I found it very hard to stay still and watch the same thing.I was busy clicking to forward the episodes and not to mention the episodes all about recaps. So you know how long-winded it is.Overall,Yukino and Arima are the only source that managed to kept my attention bar active.

| So... that's it? Boy meets girl in the third episode or so, and all is fine ever after? I might pick up the manga to see if there are more to it than this, but this anime was simply not very good, despite great characters.

| I Had Been Searching for a Shojo Anime to Satisfy My Needs. One with Really Sweet Romance, But Great Comedy at the Same Time. Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou was the anime that I had Been Looking for this WHOLE TIME~!~!~! =D
Where do I Start. The Animation? Okay, for an anime from the 1998, The Animation is Pretty Good. I Really Like It. x). I Find it Interesting how The Producers are Able to put So Many Different Styles & Ideas for Kare Kano. There are Those Manga Scenes, Real Life Scenes, Paper Cutout Scenes. These Were Really Original & Never Failed to Impress Me. =) The Animation Was Always Great. Character Designs Great & the Comedy Scenes were Funny With the Really Wacky Expressions. =D Okay, it probably doesn't have as smooth animation as modern animes these days. But Hey, an anime doesn't necessarily have to have good animation to show a great story. Kare Kano Does a Decent Job & I Like its Animation LOTS!!!
I Disagree with how some people said that the ep 19 with paper cutouts on popsicle sticks was because they were low on budget. etc.etc. I thought it was Really Original. Even if they were low on budget, I nevertheless Enjoyed that Episode. =)
The Sounds, however, wasn't as great. Well, the opening theme is a sweet song. It's Good, but not really Great. The Ending theme was decent, in my opinion. =/ Nothing Spectacular though. It would be much better if they could have better music. BUT, The Seiyuus Did a SPLENDID JOB~!!! Their Voice Acting was REALLY GREAT!!! Funny & Wacky & Evil Whenever they needed to be. =D. Emotional Whenever they needed to be. The Seiyuus did a Great Job. ;)
Now. The Story? Well, I have to say the backbone of Kare Kano is Really Original. I have never came across an anime with the main character as a Queen of Vanity who Feeds on Praises & Attention, Pretending to be Who she's not, & Actually Enjoying It?! What a corrupted female, and she brings a LOT of Comedy to this anime. =D She has Always Been the Best, & Loves the Attention she Receives from Being the Best. However, when she reaches high school, she is defeated by this guy who is smarter, nicer, sportier and good looking. Stealing all of the attention she used to receive. From this, her evil scheme-plotting personality comes forth and she aspires to beat him and make him look bad.
BUT... Things don't go as she wanted it to. & Kare Kano starts turning into a Lovely, Sweet Romantic Anime, Never Losing its Comedy. =D As the relationship was formed, more obstacles come along, more characters are introduced. & Every Episode seemed like an obstacle, but they were solved at the end of the episode or the next. Nothing too long/dramatic or dragging. Which is good for those viewers who aren't patient with shojo animes. But, I Enjoyed Kare Kano Anyway. =) They Always Could find Places to Fit Comedy in, & It All Felt Natural & made Kare Kano an Even GREATER Anime to Watch. The Animation styles like I had mentioned earlier Brings More Originality and Unique-ness to Kare Kano.
I Admire the Efforts & Ideas of the Producers & Manga Author. The Storyline was Well Planned, and everything seemed sort of natural. Just like high-school life, there is no goal to reach, but just getting by the obstacles of the everyday. People might find this boring, but that's what high school genre animes are, right? & It Isn't All Thaat Bad. The Comedy from Meeting All those New Characters Are Worth it. =) The Obstacles and Challenges Faced by the Characters when Meeting MORe Characters gave this anime Great Climax.
What made it Even MORE Interesting was the fact that all the characters themselves were unique in their own ways, & their personalities themselves played parts of major conflicts in Kare Kano. Basically, Kare Kano dealt with Yukino's personality, how she develops and changes, slowly bit by bit during her relationship. & Arima Souichiro has this other personality within him. Their personalities grow & Develop into Really Beautiful Things through the Growth of this Relationship. & I REALLY TRULY Enjoyed the Sweet Lovey-Dovey 100% Romantic Relationship that they had. They both seemed like really perfect people with very good looks, but they both have problems, but they can solve these problems and understand each other. It makes me Wish that I had such an Understanding Relationship Like That. T_T
Hence, I Really Enjoyed The Sweet romance, The Unique Characters, The GREAT FUNNY COMEDY, (oh yeah, i should mention that the comedy might not be funny to some, as the comedy was really shojo-ish comedy. Some guys might not appreciate it, But I Really Enjoyed them. =D.) The Unique Animation Styles & Just Almost EVERYTHING About Kare Kano Was GREAT~!!~!~
However, Note: I said "Almost EVERYTHING". There were a few flaws. well, the music should be more spectacular, so that was a bit disappointing. However, that wasn't what caused the most disappointment.
Hmm. in episode 24, I Just Didn't Understand why Yukino suddenly had such a weird Dream. It was Just Totally Out-of-the-Blue. I Didn't Understand Why She Dreamt of That. & It Was Just Un-understandable to me. >_<
& By the End of Episode 26, you are left feeling that There's MORE To this anime. But that episode is really the end. <_<. So I guess those who enjoyed Kare Kano should read the Manga. I'm gonna read it ASAP~! =D
But Otherwise, Kare Kano is a Really Deep & Meaningful Anime. Dealing with Topics about How Important is a person's Image? The Importance of having Real Friends who can understand you, A Family one can rely on anytime of the day. I Really Enjoyed Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou & I'll Recommend it To Anyone who's Searching for a REALLY GREAT Shojo Comedy Anime With REALLY SWEET Lovey-Dovey Romance & Deep Meanings. Kare Kano isn't the kind of anime that would make people cry buckets, but I don't mind. I'm Satisfied & Happy already that Kare Kano Is Such an Excellent Anime. =)
until now, I'm Still stuck onto the characters. T_T. I feel Like I Want to have their sort of Relationship, & the thought about How Sweet, Understanding & Romantic it Is Just Really Amazes Me. Well, I have to say that Only Really Good Animes Can Actually Impact you Because of The Really Humane Characters you can Relate to, & because that you had grown attached to them while watching them develop. That's an Element All Good Animes Possess, in my opinion, & Kare Kano provides that easily if you enjoy this genre. =)

| One of the reasons I really liked this anime was due to the fact that, there was no hardcore, angst drama. Although there were problems, they were solved, relatively easy (like the bumps in Yukino and Arima's love life). With, for example, Peach Girl, where the dramatics were SOO intense and deep, I often felt more frustrated with the anime than paying much attention. That's one of the reasons Shoujo's sometimes piss me off (another reason I LOVE shounens >.<).
BEGINNING: the beginning drew me in like a moth to flame. I loved the comedy and the character development, not to mention such cute animation. The story seemed interesting and I was hooked.
MIDDLE: the main story of Arima and Yukino was somewhat complete so other character's stories were brought in, also making this anime different from other shoujos that vehemently focus on ONE pair only. although there was no general storyline that flowed through, it was enjoyable none-the-less.
END: the disappointment. No, I'm not kidding. Towards the end, I felt as if i was left hanging. I really hope there will be a 2nd follow up. I felt that Arima never resolved his inner issue (although he acknowledges it, its not satisfying) and Tonami's relationship with Sakura was never resolved either. I also thought I'd see more of Tsubasa and her step-brother's relationship since this part took a couple episodes but it was never mentioned again.
There certainly are a lot of flaws in this anime but I thought it was very enjoyable and entertaining. Somewhat reminds me of the good old "School Rumble" days...

| Full of depth and emotion KareKano is one of those rare school anime that it'd be a crime to miss. However if you're into shorter anime this one will feel long and boring. Like an ongoing high school test so is KareKano

| karekano. Him and Her. a story of love. overall, karekano is an objectively good anime (in my opinion), with FATAL flaws that bring it down from the elites. especially in comparison to the extraordinary like honey and clover, despite the fact that karekano is ALMOST perfect, it has some annoying aspects that keep on hammering over and over
lets first be fair. kare kano, in my view, has excellent animation and music. by 'excellent', i mean for its time and also for its usage. i like the stills and moving camera animation style, and i think it does well to bring out emotional feelings. the story is also quite nice: a girl and a boy meet and complete each other, teaching each other truths of high school life. and the characters are all cute and funny, and i especially liked the heroine and hero of the story. but of course, all this on the exterior, led to problems later on..
first lets admit: i liked it somewhat. for one, it was funny. note that the overall score is not particularly low, but ALSO not very high. the reasons are as follows (flaws):
the first is the OBJECTIVE animation. to be fair, i heard the anime had bad budgeting. but that doesn't change the score. second is the storyline. every anime needs a theme, a moral, ANYTHING, but to be played as some sort of reality tv show is a "nono". karekano is like a glimpse of someone's life. not very thematic. also not very well wrapped up.
the BIGGEST most horrendous rehammering painful stimulus were the characters themselves. yes i DO like them. but thats the problem. i like them too much. lets face it, they're PERFECT. the anime attempts to make them less perfect by adding 'pseudo, fake flaws'. for example, "i've never had any real friends". i was surprisingly 'impressed' with miyazawa's uncanny ability to make a billion after she suddenly, and magically 'decided' to start. as i recall, making friends was never that simple.
and what i mean is this. even though karekano had great funny moments, its romantic moments failed. usually, i watch for a mixture of sadness yet hopefulness. what karekano did was leave ONLY the sadness. specifically because you end up being able to relate to the people AROUND the main characters, the people who HATED them and ENVIED them rather than themselves. Arima, especially, was a close to perfect 'anime hunk' with few flaws other than some ambiguous things that he got over really fast. c'mon, perfect in atheletics, intelligence, AND being envied by everyone. miyazawa, practically the prettiest girl in school, with an EXTREMELY mature and unbelievable sense of poise and rationale in times of troubles. how REALISTIC is all of this.
romances need to be realistic to connect with the audience. for example, takemoto was extremely relatable, and far from perfect, but likable (honey and clover). i felt like i was reading the story of the people who had it all, who CREATED self drama. basically they pulled a "KGNE" syndrome. all the drama was FORCED out of thin air. here they were, popular as ever, perfect in every regard, and still, they whined about this, whined about that. even entering a perfect relationship with an equally amazing member of the opposite sex. but "oh no, we'll be seperated for an entire month or so! i can't take this". or ALL of a sudden, perfect Arima starts to whine, with miyazawa tailing him, trying to make him feel better. nor did i really feel sorry for him since he was basically admired by every girl in school.
rather, i felt more for the other characters. the one's who've never been at the top, but feel compelled to reach there. karekano , as a whole, turned into something i coudln't handle anymore, because it failed as a romance anime. good ideas, good start, and promising style and music, but an ultimate failure because of the two main characters, whom everyone, not surprisingly, adores. but why on earth, do you want to read a story about the complaints of the jock guy who got the pretty girl, who just never seem to be satisfied with what they have?
basically this anime pulled a KGNE. it built drama out of everything. every little thing was potential for a story. but i get enough of that in real life, thanks. anime is meant to offer hope and direction, not give you a glimpse of something you'll never have.

| Not up to my expectations for the below few reasons. The story takes place between a couple who discover and appreciate their true selves.
Animation style isn't to my liking, due to the fact that alot of scenes were reused, and that one particular episode was entirely in black in white. Most irritating were the various recaps in between the episodes when the seiyuus would shoot off what happened in rapid fashion and boring you with the stuff you've already watched. Another one was when scene after scene would flash again and again with alot of talking, gave me quite a hard time trying to make out what it was trying to emphasise.
Storyline was hard to keep up with, due to lack of sequence in episodes. But i liked how each characters background was given sufficient screen time.
Characters are the saving factor of this anime. Even though I didn't like anyone of them in particular, but the interactions between them were amusing and comedic. But their exaggerated expressions and actions served to spoil the mood of certain sentimental and melancholic scenes. The past of Arima and Yukino could have been cut down instead of repeatedly showing it.
Music for the OP and ED were ok, the BGM overall was well done.
Overall IMHO, Karekano has a solid cast of characters, but poor animation and sequencing of events made me think twice about it's rave reviews.

| You are either watching this show because you like conventional shoujo, or you are obsessed with Hideki Anno and want more Evangelion. Well be advised both sides, this really is an oil and water blend of the two. While this show could have been a lot better on both fronts, it is what it is and that is an enjoyable little show that brings a darker side to the school life drama.
Chances are that by the time you have made your way to watching Kare Kano, you have realized at least one fact in the anime world: Gainax likes to mess with us, the viewers.
That is no different with this show. Kare Kano bridges the gap between Evangelion and FLCL. There is a lot, and I mean a lot of energy in this show, yet at the same time it is dead serious at the drop of a hat.
You don't have to read too much to get an idea of the short-comings and flaws of Kare Kano. This is a very character driven show, and as a result almost nothing else was paid attention to. The end product is still pretty good, in fact this is one of my favorite shows, yet at the same time it is not without it's flaws.

| Long considered a flawless example of shoujo anime, Kare Kano has finally begun to show cracks in its suppoedly indestrucable core to criticism. Ignoring the horribe, "artsy" visuals, Kare Kano puts decent characters into a story with no real beginning or end. It just *happens*, which would had the show not been 23-minute 26 episodes. The random interval switch of main characters only confuses the whole thing; as if I want to learn about awful characters such as Tsubaki and Tsubasa in a series with otherwise great characters. And while Kare Kano has one of the best anime soundtracks I've ever heard, the Japanese voice track is also one of the lamest vocal tracks I've ever heard. The English dub is actually a LOT better.
It's not a bad show; when Kare Kano's formula of love stories works, it's very enjoyable. Too bad it isn't consistent in that regard.

| I have built my self a pretty decent anime collection within the last few years I got into anime. This was the anime that showed me romance and comedy can be one of the best genres in anime. It got me to pick up the manga "Kare Kanio" and got me to pay 120$ on this anime. The animeation in this was wonderfull, going from chibi in the cutsy care free moments and then into clean and more seriosus animation in the more serious parts. Even when Gainax was running low and had to cut animetion quality in the later episodes. I was still hooked nothing could ruin this anume for me. The music and sound quality was another thing it made its way to my #1 soundtrack in anime, I can still hear my self humming the music "Yume no Naka e". The story althou rushed in the end, was still surpreme, out of all the anime out there, this has to be one of the most intellegent ones. The romance going on between Yukino and Soichiro was warming sweet and suspensfull and even really sad at times. And all the sad romances too with Tall the friends Yukino ends up making. I enjoyed this anime and still continue to watch it and call it my favorite anime out there ^.^

| (Rightstuff DVD rip by Baka-anime. Japanese cast only. Rightstuff should have done serious editing to translate the dialogs of the manga scenes as well. Fortunately I had read the manga and knew what they said more or less. As they did it, Rightstuff version is lacking in the translation department and it takes a lot from the enjoyment unless you know Japanese)
Having a bad experience previously with Saikano (watched the mediocre anime first and then I read the very touching manga) I decided before watching the anime to read all the manga volumes in order to avoid any false expectations.
I am glad I did and I can understand why the mangaka had issues with the anime. The fact is I felt nothing of the manga atmosphere while watching the anime. Then I thought it doesnt matter, after all we're talking about Gainax and Hideaki Ano here, so an anime doesnt have to exactly copy the manga to be good.
So I persevered till the end.
Now, excluding that this is one of the worst animated 26 episode features from Japan, only 5-6 episodes are worth watching for their aesthetic value while the rest are nothing memorable if you've watched good shoujo animes, plus there are recaps of 60 minutes too and one mediocre filler episode.
I do not doubt Hideaki Ano as a director and I liked his approach to the manga, and the approach of the other director after ep. 19 as well. Problem was with the material. This is a shoujo manga and a very popular too. It doesnt have to be as complex as Evangelion or as wacky as FCLC. Lets focus just on the romance and ignore all that arty stuff. There is were the anime fails as a medium. Adding many manga screenshots shows that fact. An anime adaptation of a manga is produced to make the manga come alive through animation and sound, even if the story has to stray a bit. There's no need to stay that failthfull to the manga if you cant produce a decent anime. Adding also the FCLC-esque and Evangelion scenes, a trademark of the director seen in many of his animes, can certainly impress but this should have been done in another kind of anime that would allow more liberties for that kind of direction. Not in a shoujo anime. Revolutionary Girl Utena comes to mind with a similar direction, but there at least they tried something that made the anime original.
Animation isnt worth discussing. Some still scenes are impressive but for that I'd better turn to avant-guarde animation than watch a 26 episode series.
OP and ED were the best part of the anime. Very catchy and original. Too bad about the rest.
Sound department was another positive factor and the only one that managed to make the boring animation lively. From piano tunes to rock. Music direction is certainly better than the animation direction.
Characters....If you've read the manga expect exactly similar characters with worse design and with horrible voices. They try to copy the manga characters. Better read the manga giving your own voice to the characters than listen to the anime characters unfitting voices (especially Tsubasa's).
As for the story, it ends abruptly. I seriously doubt though they were thinking of continuing a second season, even if in the final episode they clearly leave that fact open! The story really is a mess and it should at least have shown the Culture Festival theatrical play in order to have a good ending. They didnt wait unfortunately
Now I'd recommend this anime to Gainax and Hideaki Ano admirers and to those who havent read the manga. They'll sure find the anime very enjoyable.
But since the anime has so many moments from the manga, as other reviewers who rated this title low mention, it is better to buy the manga instead. The mangaka doesnt ignore the anime without reason.

| I had never seen a piece of media, much less a piece of anime that I identified with until I saw KareKano. The animation is not perfect (due to budget problems), but they made it work. What impacted me so much was the process. Unlike many love-genre anime, Kare Kano does not stop at the point where the love-interest is finally getting together, but rather plays through and explores the dynamic of relationships in general. All in all, this is a powerful series derived from a seemingly normal aspect of life. Refusing to stretch realism for the sake of drama only adds to this power, making it one of the most real and impacting anime of all time.

| good blend of comedy / drama and romance for those romance fans if you can ignore the constant recapping\reminder\repeating of plot and characters/horrible animation
Allthough I think it is over-rated just from the fact I'm reviewing it as an "anime" considering the fact that it was barely animated.
However there are some huge problems that has to do with the VERY VERY tiny budget.
It's recommended to some extent but it's pretty much a semi-animated manga that is narrated with some color so READ THE MANGA too or instead

| *currently re-writing*
I’m re-writing this review after watching for the third time.
I still think that this is one of the good ones. The problems are, some of the jokes got old immidiately and I get annoyed with one particular character as I re-watch.
The plot is just simple, its about 2 high school students who fell in love with each other and together they face the hardships and joyfulness of high school life. What I like about this is that most of the situations can happen in real life, so we can say that its somewhat realistic but sometimes their reaction is too exaggerated especially that of yukino's, but hey, its anime so its acceptable. What I hate in the story is the fact that Yukino and Souichiro's relationship went too far when they are just high school students. I dont think its appropriate. One of the worst episodes Ive ever watched is in this anime, the episode where there was nothing happening but just saying their thoughts, its really akward.
Overall an enjoyable series. Highly recommended to all who likes high school romance.

| Alright... first off, I have never read the manga based on this series... so this review is coming strictly from someone who was intrigued and saw that it had gotten some high marks. I can understand why past reviews have complained about it being low-budget, with repetitious scenes and almost-direct scan-in's from manga... but that should never deter anyone from enjoying an anime... it obviously didn't hurt Evangelion.
What carries this title more than anything are the character's deep personalities and their development throughout the series. What truly disappointed me was that the series was left TREMENDOUSLY open-ended... with no resolution to some plotlines... and with almost half the cast of characters only skmming the surface of their backstory. I don't know some of their backstories... but I truly know that there was more to Asaba and Maho then one would believe if you have already dived into Tonami's persona when he's introduced in Ep. 21 and then thoroughly analyzed in the final installment.
I will begin to read the manga though because of this anime. It has thoroughly intrigued me. Maybe that was the anime's initial intent... to sell the manga. But again... "Kare Kano" is a true example of the old adage "I saw it, but the book was much better."

| This anime covers the first 8 volumes of the 21 volume manga of the same name. So there is no real ending, but a Evangelion-esque ending. That said, the characters are likelable, the comedy is well done and it's overall very enjoyable. Main characters Yukino and Arima are model students who reveal/discover their true selves during their relationship. For those that do not access to the manga, I recommend stop watching somewhere in the middle before they move on to side character plots which runs the rest of the way.
Animation:
This anime had no budget, which became very apparent from episode 19 and on. Many frames are taken straight from the manga.
Sound:
Voice acting for the main characters are well done and I like the ED, but nothing special and Sena Rika's voice was plain bad.
Story:
The story in the manga is excellent and deserves a 10, but as this anime only runs till volume 8/21, and skips completely the resolution of the male lead's psycological problems.. anyway the anime is very funny (more so than the manga) and the plot is enjoyable.
Characters:
Yukino carrys the anime by herself. Since the anime doesn't run long enough to cover the full developments of the side characters and Arima, but the parts shown are well done nevertheless. Frankly, if Yukino was the only character the anime had, I would still give a 10 because yukino is that interesting, likeable and fun-to-watch a character.
Value:
The production value is poor, but had interesting ways of getting the anime out (such as drawings straight from the managa cut out and jiggles over a live action background). The major disadvantage is the incompleteness
Enjoyment:
I enjoyed this anime alot. It included the best part (the first part) of the manga so avoided much of the over done traumatic past stuff. Add the additional comedy, a very enjoyable watch.

| Overall a great anime based on a great manga series. KKNJ's complex and dynamic characters allow it not only to succeed as a great love-romance story, but as a hilarious comedy. The animation is well done, and takes advantage of its manga origins. The main downside of this series is its decreased budget as you approach the final episodes. Too many time absorbing still shots, and a non-existent ending, leave a few things to be desired with this otherwise spectacular series. However, the problem with the ending is easy enough to solve...just go read the manga once you are done. Overall KKNJ is a must watch!
