| A boy gets bullied at school; meets a famous boxer, trains for a bit and gains respect. Sounds like something you'd seen before? Well there's so much more to this series .
We follow Ippo's carrier from a 16 year old amateur boxer until he reaches the international level ; during this we see his huge psychological development , his inner conflicts .
We also follow the path of his gym mates, the three of them truly remarkable characters. Somehow the author managed to estabilish an extremely interesting dynamic in their relationships, making this a very strong point of the manga.
The design overall is good, the fights are presented quite realisticaly , making a great atmoshpere.
Enjoyment?
Well I'd say that the fact that after 76 volumes I don't feel the least bit bored of this series says much. It's truly amazing that this manga keeps being original after such a length, specially because it's dealing with a sport. There's just so much truly excellent comedy here that one never gets tired.
In my opinion this is without question THE KING of the sports genre. Better than Slam Dunk, Captain Tsubasa etc. by a large margin . ( And I say this as a fan of those series)
An absolute must-try, even if you don't like boxing or know nothing about it.

| The artwork is great and of course a lot better than in the anime series. The Fights are really drawn awesome.
The best aspect of the manga is of course that the story goes on. The anime (series, movie, ova) ends at the 35 Volume and there are now 75 Volumes, so you have a lot of new staff and the story gets even better and better, especially the fights.
The characters are as well as likeable as in the anime series.
All in all a perfect manga (at least in this genre) and one of my favourites.
Read it or else you really miss something amazing.

| Hajime no Ippo the manga is literally the ultimate fighting manga. Reading this manga was an emotional rollar coaster - from tense fights to laughable situations, HnI does not fail to impress me from all aspects possible.
While it is clear that this is a boxing manga, HnI is not all show and no go. From chapter to chapter from volume 1 where we see Ippo beat up by the local bullies to Volume 70 where the dream of taking on the world is somewhat within his grasps, we do not lose sight of any of the characters. Just as much as this is a manga about boxing and fighting, this is a manga about a man's pride, strength, and perserverance.
Furthermore, the support cast has to be one of the best out there. From Ippo's local gym mates, to friends he makes out of foes when he fights to reach the top, we have a variety of engaging and interesting character personalities that help develop Ippo's central character. Without this background cast, Ippo would not grow and realize the world around him. Ippo is the idealized form of human ambition with all its good and bad, aspiring for some dream, fighting to win, and overcoming obstacles - this is not just some mindless fighting manga. It tells a heartfelt story about ambition, perserverance, friendship, joy, sadness, and the desire to become number 1, one step at a time.
Based up to chapter 699 (Yeah there's a damn lot but it never loses it value and initial motivation)

| I must say I'm suprised to see that noone has written any reviews on this manga yet. I started reading it after I finished watching the anime. I didn't know at that time that it was based of an manga (newbie then) and was overwhelmed with joy getting to know that the story continued in manga. Among all manga I read today this one it the one I enjoy the most. It's something all should read. If you liked the anime you'll definitly LOVE this!
As many said about the anime... You don't need to be a boxing fan to like this!
The manga is on 75 volumes and still going! Hope it never stops!
