| So I watched the tv series and the OVAs and they were good, especially for an anime out of the 80's, but this movie really finished it off nicely. I have to admit, during much of the tv series I hated Hikaru to no end, but during the movie my heart went out to her. It's emotional and pulls your strings, the impact is huge for anyone that's seen the KOR series. It was bittersweet, but beautifully so. It was saddening to watch, but there was really no other way for it to end and in that sense I loved it. I loved Hikaru's character by the end of the movie and realized the image I had of her as a ditzy bubble-headed girl was wrong all along.
***Spoileralert***
There was one thing that I couldn't get past though, during both movies. WHERE IN THE HECK WAS YUUSAKU??? I personally loved him and figured a large reason for his part in KOR was to play the rebound guy for Hikaru when the inevitable happened. But he isn't even shown. At all. Ever. I felt a little cheated that they cut him out, as I was hoping to see his hopes of being with Hikaru fulfilled because he loved her a lot more than Kyosuke. Other than that, great movie.

| I loved KOR; it was the best romance comedy anime I've seen. So it would come as no surprise that I loved the OVAs to bits. And then there were the two final movies - and I approached this one with enthusiasm. I knew that the movie will attempt to bring closure to the triangle which was present in the series straight from episode 3. So I was prepared for heartbreak, tears and the elements which any lover of a romantic comedy would hate. Since I knew the ending, I also knew that who would end up crying the most. I was also well aware that the series will most likely leave out many characters like Yuusaku and Kazuya. But NOTHING, NO ONE could have prepared me for what was to come. The end of this movie was something I couldn't dream even in my wildest nightmares. This movie in short was the pits.
The movie starts after a few months after the last episode of the series. Kasuga and Ayukawa are preparing for their university exams and Hikaru (like always) is cheering Kasuga on to perform well. At the same time she is pursuing a local play. The movie can fool anyone into believing that this will be like the usual KOR fare - fun, comedy and bits of romance thrown in to give the viewer maximum entertainment. In fact it begins in the way all the episodes began in the series - and then an event changes it forever. It has always been said that "Two is company, three is a crowd". And this event is taken by the couple to throw the third person out. I could see it coming - but the way it is done was something I just couldn't stomach. While the couple walk away all merry like a pair of turtle-doves the third is person literally made as an outcast. No explanations, no considerations - the couple is at their coldhearted best (which is very ironical considering how heartwarming they actually are).
In the end all I was able to do was curse them out loud and wanted smash my laptop for such spiteful behavior. Did I enjoy this - I enjoyed this as much as the 'third person' of the trio of KOR. I found the couple hateful and considering how much I had liked their characters, I found it perplexing to drive away my sleep for over an hour. Do I recommend this - NO. If you have enjoyed the series and liked the romance, I would recommend you skip this. I have been told that the second movie is much better and will close this up more properly. Hence I am going to watch it as soon as I finish reviewing this. All I can pray is that the second movie can justify the actions the couple took in this movie.
EDIT: Watched the 2nd movie, expansion to come in the its review.

| This is KOR at its best.
As the conclusion to this wonderful romantic series about a love triangle, this movie takes a somber approach and carves out a path to the end in painful fashion. And rightly so, since love triangles seldom end up happy. The movie's ending is predictable but realistic, so it allows the viewer to sympathize with the characters. The feelings are real, the pain is real, and the heartbreak is real. This is the movie's strong point. Nothing is held back as the characters come together in a conclusive ending.
I have never seen an anime series with as powerful an ending as KOR. Even as the last seconds ticked away I found myself sitting here unable to move. Yes, I was 'wowed'.
If you have seen KOR, then it goes without saying that you MUST watch this as well.
If you haven't watched KOR yet, then I recommend you do so, and then come back and watch the movie.
Trust me, you'll thank me for it.

| Romance anime are hard to suitably portray; they are either too melodramatic, too manipulative, or too improbable. Kimagure Orange Road TV was neither of these things; it had surprisingly well-developed characters and a storyline that never fell into the traps that so often plague others of its genre. This movie (a conclusion to the series) walks a few steps further. By eliminating the silliness of the television series, the erroneously labeled “love triangle” between the three main characters is given full attention. The movie never takes the easy route, and instead, chooses to be as heartbreakingly realistic as possible.
…the movie begins slowly. Being separated into three chapters, the first chapter is the slowest. In this chapter, there are two unnecessary scenes with the unnecessary additional characters: Kyosuke’s sisters and his perverted friends. But, oh well, I guess it wouldn’t be Kimagure Orange Road without em, eh? Not to mention that Hikaru, though it’s sad to see her desperation (and, to me, her feelings was perhaps the most realistic in the movie), is just as annoying as she was in the series. With that aside, there is much to love about this movie, mainly (and here is the big surprise) Kyosuke. Gone is the weakling who can’t make a good decision to save his life. In his place is a man who not only makes his choice, but determinedly tries to keep that choice. He won’t let anyone come between him and the woman he loves and that makes him the best character in the movie. And believe in me, considering the sissies that infest the genre, that is saying something.

| The KOR TV series is one of my all time favorites, but it's incomplete without seeing 'I Want to Return to that Day', the truly devastating resolution to the Kasuga-Ayukawa-Hikaru love triangle.
Ironically, Hikaru fares the best relatively speaking, because her character is finally afforded some of the depth that eluded her during the series. The film as a whole is much closer to the manga, which I wish had been the case for the whole series. Unlike the series or the manga though, this film is very sober, with little of the humor and not even the smallest display of 'the power'. It functions strictly to provide a realistic, bracing conclusion that savages all three characters in nearly equal measure.
The music in particular, even compared to the series, heightens the drama to almost unbearable heights. It's some of the most effective anime music that I can think of. The art is gorgeous, although the animation is only good. As usual though, the only thing animation in KOR really needs to get right are the facial expressions, which IWtRtTD does beautifully.
As excellent as this film is, under no circumstances should you watch it without having seen most of the series first. Once you've done that though, it's hard for me to think of many anime that are as affecting as KOR: I Want to Return to That Day

| I deathblow finale to the entire KOR series. The TV series reeled you in lightly, the OVAs flirted around disaster, and the movie laid it all to rest. As a HardKOR fan, I do hope that the movie is last on your list behind the series and OVAs, otherwise, it will definitely not be much of an impact but a one-time dramatic event.
The animation is many times better than the tv series, as expected. The sounds and music of the tv series were much more varied and appealing. The final song, however, was appropriate. The character and story, I guess, finally evolved having dragged on so long in the tv series and OVAs. Hard to re-watch without being in the right mood again only because it clenches the heart tightly. The series itself may not be one of the best, but the ending movie here is one of the best endings ever of any series.

| Only to be viewed after having seen Kimagure Orange Road TV. Ano hi ni Kaeritai is the bittersweet conclusion to the story where Kyosuke and Madoka accept their love for eachother, and at the same time, try not to crush their friend's heart. Starting off with Kyosuke and Madoke walking the grounds of a university, checking to see if they were both accepted, the movie heads to a flashback of the previous summer when they were busy cramming, taking entrance exams, and coming to terms with their feelings. There's no special powers, no comedy, and almost none of the secondary characters or Kyosuke's family. One thing the movie tries to do, but didnt really affect me, was trying to invoke some realy sympathy for Hikaru. It's easy to feel sad for her, as you'd feel sad for anyone else who has to hear that the person they thought loved them was actualy in love with your friend the whole time, but Hikaru was just to annyoing in TV for me to feel for her. Go watch it, you owe it to yourself if you've seen KOR TV

| What a movie, anyone who has seen the series should watch this regardless of their opinions on the TV series itself. This is where it all happens, almost every loose end between the love triangle sorted.
Animation stayed the same as the TV series which was a bit disappointing, but everything else was top class, I have NEVER been so excited in watching an anime movie before, ever! I just couldn't believe my eyes and ears whilst viewing this.
The story was fantastic, just what the whole TV series has been screaming out for, to put an end to the love triangle, and this movie did it in honest and real style, I enjoyed every second after the first 10 minutes. Though the ending was STILL rather unsatisfying, this was better than my wildest imagination after seeing the TV and OVA series.
The music in this was even better than the TV series', hard to believe how good they were, nearly made me cry itself.
The 3 main characters acted very seriously and frankly, this time NOT giving the audience so much frustration over coward nature. This made the whole film just seem so right and swift, the characters' emotions were just so good, enjoyed every minute of it.
This is such a god movie granted that you have seen Kimagure Orange Road TV series (and maybe the OVAs as well), otherwise on itself, you'd be very much confused. Still to me this was a total shocker, not even Maison Ikkoku did this to me, I'll say it again, if you have watched KOR TV series, you just have to watch this, you'd be a total fool not to, really.

| Mmm...this is the heavy dose of heartache that you just knew the KOR TV and OVA series' were setting you up for. But painful as it is to watch, it is a very good movie.
By itself, the KOR TV series is imperfect. But when combined with this movie for an end, it becomes a magnificent story of love and heartache that rivals that of Maison Ikkoku. You really do have to watch all of KOR before you watch this movie to truly get the most out of it though, so don't go and watch this without previous knowledge of the story or you'll ruin it for yourself.
But if you've watched the KOR TV series then you've gotta watch this movie to see how things end up. It's really a wonderful movie, kind of gives you that feeling that you could die a happy person after watching it. I'm glad I got the chance to see this great series.

| I really liked the orange road series, and watching this movie brought back many fond memories of the TV series. However, having read the manga in addition to watching the TV series, I muct say that I liked the manga ending infinitely more than the one portrayed in this movie. To simplify things in a nutshell, Kasuga Kyosuke's character in this movie seemed a little forced, and contrived even. The same goes for Madoka. Their characterisation for this movie is totally not in keeping with that of the TV series, and leaves a bad aftertaste in one's mouth after watching the movie, much like that of cough syrup.

| Let me say this: watch at least some of the TV or OVA before this to grasp some kind of connection between these characters. Otherwise, this movie doesn't hit home as it would. Having seen the TV and OVAs, I was surprised by the lack of humor in this movie. Even more surprising was what happened between this triangle of characters. It is kind of brutal in the portrayal of the situation between Kyosuke and Hikaru. Those who have experienced a love triangle may be relate to this very well. I also loved the music, very 80s like. Very recommended.
P.S. I also cried during this movie, which brings the total running count of cry-inducing animes I've seen to: 2

| Oh man! This movie actually managed resolved the series in a great way. I was very pleased at how everything turned out. Actually it was just like I was hoping for. I'm glad the producers didn't chicken out and left the main theme unresolved, which not-so-seldom happens in other series.

| The movie is extremely effective by employing a relatively common device: Make the Movie/OAV completely different in tone or genre from the main show. Given the material it has to deal with, the breaking of the incredibly fragile yet resilient love triangle that Kimagure Orange Road is all about...it's appropriate. It's sad. Very sad, I watched the movie on a dark and stormy night, right after watching Vampire Princess Miyu. It broke my heart.
For me, and many fans, Kyosuke and Madoka were living characters who broke the bounds of their actual world and characterizations, and this movie is the closure to it all.

| Kimagure Orange Road fits into an odd little category that I usually refer to as "shoujo for shounen".... A series that contains soap-opera style drama but really only from a male perspective. And there is no better example of this than the first of the KOR movies.
Stylistically, it takes its cues from the way the tv series was presented, but suppresses almost all of the humour the tv series had. Instead we get the (not so final) resolution of the love triangle that was the backbone of the series. At least KOR had the guts to actually give us a resolution to these things, unlike many "harem" series today. And here we can see exactly how painful those resolutions can be.
Time may not have been exactly kind to KOR, but it still has a certain charm about it.

| if love is true, then the triangle cannot exzist forever... and the one who is hurt is the most delicate character from KOR, hikaru, which loved her best friend's lover... and never wasn't truely loved... perfect drama, the best visualisation of personal feelings i've seen... very touching, and really sad... but that the cruelty of love... which isn't always pleasure..

| This isn't a balanced review - this is my favourite anime movie of all time. Profoundly touching - it really tugs at the heartstrings.
We've all been to where this movie goes... that's why it resonates so powerfully.
Essential viewing for anyone who has ever seen the TV series. For the rest, go watch the TV series, and come back for this when you are done.

| This is not an extension about the happy trio from the TV and OVA serieses, instead, it is quite depressing and sad. All 3 main characters' feelings for each other have been throughout revealed. Personally, i think this movie focused mainly on Hikaru and Kyosuke's break-up,and we can see through this one energetic girl's deep side and her great passion for Kyosuke with all her heart and soul.
A great tragedy story.
