Vastly underrated anime that has been hidden in the shadows for quite some time. The universe is a mix between Samurai 7 and Cowboy Bebop with both older designs and modern technology. The story itself is quite interesting and unlike many other animes touching upon this subject it does a fair job of solving the plot. The characters might seem a bit irritating and you get the feeling that you have seen them before in another show. Value and enjoyment is quite high but some episodes should have been removed since they are bad even for being fillers but overall it does a great job telling an emotional story about a father losing his little daughter at a young age. Music fits with its jazzy and piano tunes.

After a short break from mainstream anime what better title to watch to get used to it other than Solty Rei. Thanks to the reviewer below who pointed that title out. Or else I wouldnt have known about its existence, though I wouldnt bother.

First I thought this would be another mediocre Gonzo title, like Black Cat, but surprisingly Solty Rei is one of the good mainstream titles of 2005. Really what is there in Solty Rei we havent seen before. But trying to compare it with other animes with a similar storyline (eg. Pale Cocoon, GITS, Texhnolyze, Ergo Proxy, Rahxephon) would be unfair since the purpose of this anime is to provide entertainment and not a deep plot or characters. Fortunately if an anime succeeds in its initial purpose (no matter which genre it belongs) then it is worth watching at least once for non-fans of that genre.

Animation is satisfying for the most part, even if you would expect something more from Gonzo. Obviously the budget was a little tight. It was fun though. In one episode they used some animation from Kaleido Star, in another one a zombie hunting from Hellsing, then another scene from Last Exile etc. So it didnt get boring.
OP and ED were good as in every Gonzo title.

Sound was nothing special. Some rockmusic mostly and an old jazz song were used effectively. Voices were very good.

Story: Nothing special if you've seen the above titles. Overall it didnt get boring, with the exception of a few script holes and 2-3 very boring episodes. Since I'm used to Gonzo titles I admit they did their best to make the story as good as possible. The ending was very good and I didnt mind the lack of originality.

Characters were probably the best part of the series. Even if I didnt feel any particular like or dislike for any of them, they performed their roles well and some moments were touching. It takes some episodes to get used to them, but once it is done the fullfill their role, even the secondary characters. Good voice actors too without turning annoying as in other Gonzo titles.

Worth watching once for 2-3 days of entertainment. If you're eager to watch the mediocre Black Cat for a Gonzo 2005 title, I'd suggest to watch this title first. Gonzo proved yet again that they can make decent animes if they're relying just on TV productions and not manga-to-anime adaptations.

Again something very neat from AIC and GONZO.

Though i wouldn't call it an all-time-masterpiece because there are some shortcomings. But that is nothing severe because the rest of the anime is very good indeed.

Animation:
Really beautiful. Gonzo did again an amazing job implementing 3d elements seamlessly into 2d animation. Backgrounds are also very detailed and really atmospheric. Sometimes there were some issues with character animation; felt a little bit rigid, but that is not a big problem at all.

Sound:
Very nice. There are so many different colorful sound/melody patterns; and all of them are really good. Except the "synthesizer wannabe-orchestra-sound", which was used at very dramatic moments; that was an a little bit excessive use of synthesizer, i think. OP was maybe too energetic but i got used to it quite fast and even started to like it ;). ED was also nice. Put me into the right mood.

Story/character:
At the beginning i wasn't that sure what to make out of it. There was no real storyline. More of an collage of shortstories from the "Solty Rei" universe. The "real" plot does not start until midway. But when started i bet you'll be surprised how much is going to be revealed. So don't lose patience!
The element which makes the more plotless episodes still attractive are characters. They are very good written, though sometimes quite stereotype. Characters are more of the "flashy" type. You know .. like in japanese RPG'S like FF VII. But thats not a bad thing at all! I really like it.

So in all a very fine piece of animation. I enjoyed it very much and i bet i am not the only one!

Solty Rei is a touching and masterfully done action drama from Gonzo with an excellent script and wonderful voice actors.

The animation is exactly what someone would want from an anime released in 2005. Solty Rei contains some exceptionally good computer generated scenes, which, combined with the colourful graphics and smooth animation makes the anime a pleasure to watch.

The theme songs of this anime are good, but the voice acting are what really makes this anime great. The script is very touching and well written, so that when combined with the wonderful voice acting, really gives viewers the feeling of every scene. This is also the main factor which makes Solty Rei a brilliant drama to watch.

The storyline is somewhat hard to understand, and viewers are left with more questions than answers all the time, even till the last episode.
The anime starts out pretty slowly, with several episodes having a 'filler' feel to them. However, the speed suddenly picks up rapidly half way through the anime (ep 11), turning the anime into a gripping and heart rendering drama. But, as viewers are left with more and more unanswered questions after every episode, the interest will eventually die down a little until the final two episodes, where everything is suddenly explained, making the ending seem confusing, despite being very touching.
Nevertheless, the interesting parts of Solty Rei is extremely interesting (more than usual), and definitely worth watching.

Despite poor character introductions and development, every character is interesting, especially with the wonderful voice acting. The script and voice acting makes the characters seem much more interesting than what they were originally.

Solty Rei managed to get me into its mood within a matter of mere seconds every time. The brilliant dialogues is no doubt what makes this anime exceptionally interesting to me. Combined with the great graphics and voice overs, Solty Rei is an anime worth watching by everyone.

Solty Rei is one of those animes that's ignored but has a great value and quality.

The story is set in the future when people could replace the parts of their damaged body with artificial parts that's basically indistinguishable from real ones. Some gain superhuman strength from these replacements and some use it to make tons of money.

Overall, the anime focuses on father/daughter relationship of Roy and Solty with bits of twists that will make you wait impatiently for the next episode

So far, I can only review Animation and sound as i have not seen the end and don't know how the story and characters will develop and i can't tell if it will be worth buying yet.

Animation is awsome, as to be expected from Gonzo. The 3d and 2d graphics blend in well can the action is awsome.

The sound has been good so far. And the opening song is catchy, but nothing too special, it's an average Jpop song.

Episodes 1 of this show got me hooked and episodes 2-5 where even better. I like the combination of Action, Drama and Comedy. I have yet to watch episode 6 but i'm sure i will enjoy it.

I will update my review when i've seen more of the series, Enjoy :D
