The Love Hina TV series came to a pretty reasonable, if not a touch inconclusive ending. Thus, going in, I didn't really think extra specials could be pulled off with any real grace. The story here isn't godawful, so maybe I was wrong, but in the end, it is still Love Hina, so it is still pretty mediocre all round.

I will put this out there before I go on. I love Love Hina. I can't help it, I do. This review may be a bit biased but at least you know that in advanced. The Christmas special was by far the best episode of the whole series. True it is not as funny as other parts of the show but it makes up with character development which I totally dig.

The animation was very nice. Stunning backgrounds and character desgin that really help bring this anime to life. I love what they did with the Christmas setting, it really does add this "magic" to the story.

The music in Love Hina is always good. It fits the story and actually pulls you in the show. All the original character's voices are back and that is also nice.

This part of the show really does add a lot to drive the story. Of course you should watch the televsion series first and this picks up right after the last episode. Keitaro still is head over heals for Naru, but lacks confidence in sharing how he feels. Naru though is dealing with struggles of her own, and add in the rest of the crew and you have a really nice story. The ending of the episode could have closed the series nicely in my opinion but it does go on.

I love the characters in this show. Naru and Shinobu are my favorites but I enjoy everyone in the series. Each one is different and you connect with them all in one way or another. I know my brother really likes Mitsune (she has Fox eyes and her name means Fox. I thought that was neat) My friend who watched it with me likes Su and Motoko.

I would buy the whole series, oh wait I did! I love it and if you like this type of show you will not go wrong in watching this. A+

This is the first special following the end of the TV series. Christmas Eve is supposed to be a special time to confess and so we find Keitaro and Naru in a slightly comedic, slightly dramatic situation. This is by far the better of the two specials and advances the plot to some degree. A definite good watch for those who enjoyed the original Love Hina series.

love hina christmas special is a heartwarming, childish story about confessing your love. the story sometimes annoyed me because of the incredibly stupid behaviour of the characters. they are adults and not 14. the sound is extraordinary. i always liked the opening song very much because it suits the fast paced humour of the story. overall this is an anime for people who are in a relationship right now. all the others should wait or never watch the christamas special.

The better of the two Specials, the Love Hina Christmas Special is more "mature" than the original TV series, and focuses more upon the romantic relationship of Keitaro and Narusegawa.

The animation is typical of Love Hina: good character models and 2D backgrounds with various cartoony effects. Not great, but a bit above average.

The soundtrack is decent, but not as good as the Love Hina TV series; the best song was the re-hashed opening from the original series. The voice acting was good, but I didn't like the random songs in the middle of the anime.

The story, as I stated, is more "mature" than the TV series. By this I mean that the Special is not filled with the crazy antics and lack of development characterized by the TV series. Much of the Special is sombre and depressing in its mood, unlike the mood of the TV series; it is more like the mood of a Soap Opera than a comedy. However, the story was a bit predictable.

Keitaro and Narusegawa actually act like real people for the majority of the Special, while in the TV series they weren't believeable. It is interesting to see the development of their relationship as they each struggle to find out how they feel for each other and how to tell the other person.

There is even a little exploration of Shinobu's and Motoko's characters, though they don't really develop.

For Love Hina fans, this is an interesting add-on to the TV series, and expands a little on Keitaro and Naru's relationship (though, judging by the final scenes, nothing changes). For people who did not enjoy Love Hina; you probably won't want to watch this, as it is pretty much more of the same.

I enjoyed the anime for the greater level of maturity than the series, and the greater realism. However, I didn't enjoy the random songs in the middle of the Special, and the story wasn't as interesting as it could have been.

I like to review anime based on the author's intention. This was meant to be a love comedy, which meant that I, as an audience, watched it and cherished it as love comedy. It needed neither momenantal morale to be learned nor death of any main character for it to deeply delve into hearts of the watchers. Original Love hina series will always have its special niche in romance comedy, and this special OVA did not fail to deliver the heartwarming blow the series were renowned for.

Animation was different, but superb nontheless. Original voice casts were back with vengence. And the character portrayment was simply amazing, I could actually feel their agony of failures in life and love. And the small triumph they gained at the end was so sweet that I felt very reenergized about my very own tragedies.

-Fan Service: gone.
-Romance: check.
-Slapstick Comedy: in place.
-Character Development that was lacking in the TV series: ahh...there you are!

Fans of the TV series will love it. Fans that were disappointed by the TV series will probably like it. Fairly straitforward story, with the slapstick one would expect from Love Hina. But lo and behold someone injected a healthy dose of romance and some closure, and we have an OVA that is probably the pinnacle of the Love Hina TV series and OVAs...

Well well well, after the sorely disappointing Love Hina TV series, you would hope that this OVA would improve on things.. and for that matter it does!

Love Hina's tv series's main flaw was basically its romance was lack lustre or poorly developed, fortunately this OVA improves on that. Gone are the long winded, tiring, repetitive jokes, the OVA excels a lot with its good brand of romance, an interesting and twisted tale between Naru and Keitaro, where actually the chemistry between them feels more secure than it was in the tv series.

Yes, people who loved the tv series because of its wacky comedy, would be dissapointed here, there is a distinct lack of them, but where ever there is comedy here, you just can't help but smile. This is what the tv series should have concentrated on, romance over comedy, and better timed comedy scenes.

In fact, the main complaint about this, would be how conclusive this OVA was, despite the injection of solidish romance, they reverted back to old Love Hina style ways, making everything a 'full circle' again, where Naru is STILL not confident about confessing to Keitaro.
Despite my general annoyances with some characters, like the loser Keitaro, the useless side characters (Motoko and Su in this OVA) and the overall feel of Naru's character, Love Hina Christmas Special does what Ai Yori Aoshi does, a solid piece of romance.

Overall: 7.5/10
Grade: B

Just watching the Love Hina Christmas Special depressed me simply because it stood as a reminder of how good the series actually could have been. Devoid of the obnoxious fanservice, repetitive comedy and agitating brainlessness of the characters that the TV version was host to, this little OVA is a sweet, if not shallow and predictable, experience.

Sure, the plot is contrived as all hell. And frankly, it's difficult to experience the vagaries of romance through characters that you generally despise. (For those who have seen Monster, it would be kind of like watching Eva and Johan court each other for half an hour.) Even then, this OVA has that strange sort of timeless quality that you'd find in certain annual classics like A Charlie Brown Christmas. I wonder if they play this every year around Christmas time in Japan. :D But I digress. The point is, this anime gives way to a sort of sincerity previously unseen in the Love Hina universe, one that makes it genuinely watchable. Not great, or even good, but arguably worth the time you put into it. Unfortunately, I can't imagine any avid fans of the first series liking this much. Sad, really.

Watching this episode (a long time ago) after I watched the series brought a good feeling to my heart. The series kinds of ends in a weird place, and I thought this special really helped to give closure to the whole Narusegawa Keitara dilemma.

Although it is just more of the usual drama, with less of the Love Hina humor, that is what I loved most about this episode. It focuses primarily on the story of Todai and Keitaro's lack of confidence etc.

Very good and worth watching if you already have prior experience watching the series. Especially if you want some closure.

This Christmas special follows the tv series and improves its art and animations noticeably. Particularly the snowy scenes are impressive.

I won't rate the sound, since in the italian version which I've seen ALL the dubbers have been changed compared to tv series (so disappointing!).

Talking of the rest, it's a proper continuation into the Love Hina saga, but except for animations, I didn't find this special that great.
The story is very predictable, and somehow forced, yet remaining entertaining and even touching; while characters haven't changed a bit.

Overall, one or even two steps back , than tv series.

Following up with My Love Hina Crusade, after finishing the series reveiw, I started the Christmas special. Of course, h-anime (HAREM, NOT HENTAI, jee people, it's second time You fell for that trick! ;P) must have Christmas Romantic Confession Legendary Time. CRCLT is a standard motive for such stories, although I cannot say why adopting the chrismtas time if one does not say a word about birth of Jesus Christ, even while dressing as santa or reinders. I'm pretty clueless here, as I was in Tenchi about it, but since it's a minor issue let's just brush it aside. Someone before me here wrote that "it's sad to watch it, because it makes You realize how much better could Love Hina be" and that remark strucked my quite well. So my salute, man, well said. I went then back and put away two points in Enjoyment for LH series, so to not have the Enojyment here and there on the same level, Here it is quite high, because I found it really interesting. Let's address every aspect of this special.

Obviously this one movie is not win against the whole series. I thought this one was the worst of the two movies. Animation is the same as the series. There wasn't alot of music in this movie and as for the voices, they were the same voices and of course keeping the origianl voices that works well is nice to have in continuation to the story. The story is getting old fast about Keitaro and Naru loving each other and there are some stupid misunderstanding that takes place in the movie but I won't reveal the any story details. Same characters in the movie including Seta, Sara, etc, so it does add some interesting moments. If you want to c more of my review for this movie, pelase read on.

I like to call this "the lost manga chapter". Fanservice and Keitaro-pummeling takes a backseat in what could probably be considered the best of the 4 animes for this series. Romance is the main set-up for this story and the emotions dive deep in a lot of the characters. This is the kinder, gentler Love Hina we all fell in love with after getting sick and tired of Keitaro being launched into the stratosphere every five seconds.

This anime was one of the best I've seen. Combined with very dramatical emotions focusing on their relationships and feelings with multiple climaxes. The climax were so well developed it made me feel like the character if I was in that situation.

The Love Hina Christmas Special is the part of Love Hina I like the least. Keitaro is his typical clumsy self and, injures himself. Overall the Spring Special was better. If you want to know more read on.

This is probably the best after-Love Hina movie (or OVA, whatever) of the pack. This Christmas Special occurs immediately (chronologically) after the Love Hina series and is bit more serious and compelling than the series. There isn't much if any zaniness or campiness from the Love Hina series in this Christmas movie (unlike the Spring Special, which overdid the campiness and the so-so Love Hina OVA). The story deals with Kietaro and Naru's relationship prior to trying to get into Tokyo University. It's quite sad Special. I agree that it might have been the best if Love Hina had ended here than go on with the Spring Special (which I thought was too fillerish for my taste). If you were drawn into the inevitable relationship between Naru and Keitaro, you'll love this special. No significant fan service, some minor humor, but this is quite sad and inspiring overall. Recommend for Love Hina fans.

Well this is the best continuation of Love Hina the series and it's way better than the Ova's or the Spring Special.

Aldough it lacks a lot of the comedy that we got used with, it makes up for itin the romance departement and in the overall cheerfull and full of hope Christmass Spirit, aldough i have no idea what reasons to celebrate or what true connections other than marketing/ mass selling/gifts/christmass tree/Santa/reason to skip work and joy with the familly the japanese society has for this christian celebration, but then again those are the things that christians have to, the real reason of this celebration beeing almost forgot in today's world.

We finally get to see what we waited fo such a long time, Naru finally showing some feelings towards Keitaro in public, instead of the ussuall kicking and abuse that the poor guy gets in the series, Kentaro gets on the good side and Shinobu has some great developement too, but even so, i wanted a bitt more, an "i love you" would have been great. Even so it left me with a really nice, worm and fuzzy feeling inide, and the urge to drink some hot chocolate!

Finally, worth to watch this if you've seen Love Hina the series, unlike the OVA's and Summer Special.

Love Hina Christmas special movie. Very very disappointing, I was really looking forward to see something funny and romantic, but ..

In manga this part was done well, but in anime they thought they own way to make it worse... There was nearly no funny situations and romance was a little bit boring without the comedy part, it's Love Hina you know...

I don't know who drew this but it's obviously worse than the TV series, character eyes look strange and girls look like they are fat...

I recommend this to Love Hina fans, don't expect too much though... Manga was a masterpiece, anime screwed it with its own original story.
