Easily the weaker Love Hina special, this is a somewhat charming yet pretty pointless little adventure, more or less an extended filler episode of the series.

The Love Hina Spring Special attempts to cover a large portion of the manga in 50 minutes and it botches it up horrendously. The only positive here IS that it advances the Love Hina storyline. Otherwise, it was a mess. Unless you like a very childish semi-mechi, semi-repetitive humor based anime don't watch this.

what is this. i am not too sure about what i have seen just now. they have a flying mecha turtle. this mecha turtle is armed and fights real turtles who build a giant fighting turtle. they kidnap people and ships and have friends that have futuristic machines that allows them to fly where they want. they travel through a desert where the tropic jungle is next. they find an oasis in the middle of the desert and are at the coast in the next scene. where the hell is that island and who really cares about that islands girls dream. why does her voice echoe when she is singing. why did keitarou not drown when he jumped off the ship. and why did none worry about him. who would fall asleep during the life deciding exam and would travel to a foreign country without even thinking one bit. why do all the other inhabitants of hinat inn follow him. dont they have their own life. where is that island girl going in the end. why does narus friend still live though his flying object fall down from the sky. why can turtles fly. and why do the girls start singing out of the blue anyway. and when they sing please do it properly and in synch with the characters lips next time.
this all may be a bit confusing but it all really happens in love hina spring special. the animation is average and never convinces me a bit. the presentation is just not as good as the christmas special which was way better in every category.
the soundtrack is the same as in the tv series and is very catchy. i like it because it suits the fast paced plot very well. the voice acting was not the usual love hina quality. just not in synch with the movement of teh character.
story is the worst i have seen so far and it got me very angry in the end. you have to be very sick in your head to come up with this trash. all the stuff i mentoned above and then there is still not a real story. okay they want to enter tokyo u and have their last exam but how they converted that idea into this anime is really insane. you could have done a heartbreaking love romance anime that could break every womens heart to pieces. no lets have it the childish way like our characters. they are adults. when i first began watching love hina and keitarou showed his ugly face i really thought he is about 14 years old. no he is 19 i think. still bloody virgin and he will never get naru into bed. he will die of too much blood loss before because his nose is going to explode. the characters are all just not likeable. unrealistic, stupid and superficial people who have no other problems than caring about keitarou and naru. let them have their way and care for your own shit. if naru and keita have to play childish games so that the final showdown is dragged to one special after another let them do it. but i have to say this is worthless nonsense. i love worthless nonsense like slayers or city hunter but this is wether funny nor sad. it is crap that should not be watched by anyone.

While this anime finally brings a conclusion to one of the main plotlines of the Love Hina TV series, even that small pleasure is not enough to make this anime anything more than a sub-par attempt at comedy and romance.

The animation is typical of a Love Hina series, with decent character animations but bland backgrounds and lots of cartoony gimics.

The soundtrack was pretty bad, which surprised me because Love Hina is usually so good at putting together an interesting soundtrack. The random songs spread throughout the anime are annoying, and everytime a character breaks out in song I found myself cringing. Only the inclusion of the original opening song from the series at the end keeps this score from being a 1.

The story, while it does resolve a major plot thread from the series, is very predictable and fairly boring. The story is cliche even for the Love Hina series: the whole "Keitaro runs away thinking hes failed the Tokyo exams, Narusegawa follows, and then the gang follows both of them, while Keitaro and Narusegawa meet a new character" was done before in the Love Hina TV series.

The only new character introduced was Nyama, who is supposed to be a representation of Shinobu, going after the impossible dream or whatever. However, Nyama has only a few one-word lines, and the little background we find out about her is from other characters. However, it seems Keitaro and Narusegawa are acting more mature than the series, though Naru still attacks Keitaro at random. Besides them, there was no character development for any of the characters in this anime.

I wouldn't reccomend this to anyone but Love Hina fans, or people who wish to see a conclusion to that series. It really isn't very amusing or dramatic, and I didn'y really enjoy it too much, except for seeing the conclusion.

I bought a vcd of this movie even without watching Love Hina that time, I just got curious when I read on the net that this is a great series. But after finishing the whole movie, I asked myself "What the hell was that???" My expectations towards Love Hina were all wrong. And because I hated it, the result is I couldn't recall much of the events that took place, but I don't wanna turn off my brain or waste my time again watching it to post a review so sorry if this is all I can write.

All I can remember is that Keitaro and Naru are having their entrance exam for Tokyo University. And while having the exam, the idiot Keitaro daydreams about his fantasies but was able to wake up a few minutes before the tests ends, and so he thought he failed (again). Later he found himself aboard a ship on an expedition to find ancient artifacts (am I correct?). When Naru learns that Keitaro is missing, she tries to find him but the whole cast follows.

More of my bashing, please read (^^)

Love Hina Spring movie review

Wow.. after the delgihtful Chrismas special, i thought nothing from Love hina can top how good the christmas special was.. and im right.. this OVA sucks so much its unfunny!

This OVA is so littered with problems, i don't really know where to begin.. hmm i guess i could start with Shinobu, well this OVA is meant to be a developing episode for her, and in the end, NOTHING! Heck, this OVA pretty much neglects her for most of the time despite some emphasis that this OVA is about her... Another bad point, oh dear god, where was the romance.. where was the comedy? What happened to both of them? The comedy is non-existant or badly timed/very unfunny, the romance is still a big pile of mess where thigns never get resolved or developed, what a shame considering christmas special did so well. hmm.. the pointless new character, Nyamo, suppose to represent Shinobu in some way or another? I don't know, never really saw her that much and understood her feelings as well, just really what was the point of her?

In fact, with the many bad points of this OVA, i can name one redeeming feature and that this OVA manages to add some closure to one aspect of the whole love hina plot, but even then that can't save this monstrousity.

Overall, a terrible mess, even hardcore Love Hina fans will struggle to find anything good about this.. remember i watch these painful aniems so you dfon't have to!

Quite honestly, this series and everything like it has not exactly been the best use of time to me. There's plenty of other series with more merit that don't get enough attention. What I don't understand though, is some of the bashing that this show gets.

First of all, addressing the requirements that an OVA has to meet: it's an OVA for crying out loud; it's a standalone, and story progress never has to be there. Nevertheless, it IS there, unless the person didn't watch it at all and just put together a review with whatever little knowledge.

Secondly, the plot was predictable because it followed the manga? I'm sorry, if that's a problem I'll shut up. Many people, if not most, complain when a series doesn't follow the manga closely enough.

Thirdly, this was not an add-on, as aforementioned it is following the manga. LHA is not an add-on either, it came after the spring special in terms of the volumes of the comic.

This may not be the best of shows to plop in front of the couch and watch, but, by golly, some of these reviewers don't know what they're talking about, and this show at least deserves a second look.

--
As for how my rating stands:

The animation is on par with what you would expect from a Love Hina series--hell, you wouldn't want it to change if you were a die hard fan. Not only that, it's been the same studio.

The music is what makes this show great, the offbeat old OP, and the little Spring special song towards the middle/end.

Character...please, this is just generic harem stuff. Lovable, but it's not creative.

Value--haha, this has no value. If you've watched everything in here, unless you can get past the fact that you really haven't seen anything new, you should call up XEBEC and ask for your life back. ;)

Enjoyment: I have to say, even though this isn't the best show in the world, it's still something. Cheers to this series for making people happy.

Let me first state two things i expect from an OVA episodes.

1. better animation
2. progress in storyline and character development

This anime utterly does not meet my requirement. This anime is an another attempt to milk out every last dime out from its fans. Love Hina should've concluded with the Christmas special and let the manga do the rest (or should've made better OVAs).

Animation is exactly the same. Ova is shorter and usually more concentrated in its content. With this possible advantage at hand come the oppotunity to improve the animation. this anime don't do that at all. Only change i noticed was that Naru's boobs look bigger with leafs.

Music is another let down along with animation because it stays exactly the same. the one song where everyone sings around the middle is closes thing to annoying.

We do have some progress in storyline with the Tokyo University thing. and this anime does try to give some clues to Naru's true feelings towards Keitaro. But there ain't enough.

What is abundunt is more of Keitaro's untimely (or should i say timely?) sexual harrasement and Naru's Tyson punches. Well we've seen that already plenty of times.

this Ova episode provided no real progress in storyline. It's more of the eccentric Love Hina that we saw in the TV series. If you liked Love Hina however i see no reason why you shouldn't watch it. Just don't expect too much.

Sorry, Christmas Special. Your attractive and refreshing little story has been blown to bits by the Love Hina Spring Special, a festering heap of stomach-turning fanservice and blithering stupidity. And quite simply, it's fairly difficult to say anything more about this OVA, since it's basically all that was wrong with the first TV series to a terrifying exponent.

Never mind the fact that the plot was predictable sap, Nyamo is a worthless new character, and the idiotic singalong songs the girls belt out are some of the most painful things in recent memory...This anime by itself really shouldn't exist. Its purpose is solely a glorified fanwank to all of the idiots who whined after Love Hina came to a conclusion. Think Final Fantasy Advent Children as a response to all of the perpetually complaining FF7 fanboys. Someone who wasn't a fan of FF7 would be bound not to like the movie, right? Well, consider that my stance on this special.

Not recommended at all.

The Spring Special is the 3rd step on the Love Hina saga. I think that it has been slightly superior than the Christmas Special.

There's a lot more of action and of quite-revealed feelings. And a bit more serious and less hilarious than following episodes.

Another excellent chapter of the Love Hina series that answers a few of the questions the show did not answer, stays faithful to the mechanics of LH, tells a thoughtful story about a little girl's dream to follow in the footsteps of her grandfather, etc. If you have seen all of Love Hina and the Christmas special, see this and LH Again after. This OVA streghtens the show as well as a result of more LH for the fans... overall, excellent.

Still following up with My Love Hina Crusade, I honestly think it will take whole night if I'm gonna continue. Still - I just want to see the fields "recent reviewed" filled with every Love Hina possible ;P.

Series read?
Christmas special read?
Spring special... read... y? ;-)

Nothing more to say as a beginning...

Trial day comes closer, exam as well, love days as well...
Spring as... is already here.

And this time LH plays quite a different tune. It was spotted here before quite a few times - Christmas was melancholic, about solitude, caring or carelesness of others (Keitaro falling in the crowd, not noticed, Naru trying to get past, brushed aside). Spring is about fighting or giving up. Keitaro wants to give up here (surprised? I was :D) Narufights for both of them. It's a nice surprise and I liked that twist - I desired it for long, and when it was delivered FINALLY i enjoyed it. Of course there still are normal for h-anime (same trick, same trick here people :-) again fallen for it? whoah! You sure are slow :D) motives. This time we must check the list and have a go at bikinis, beach, and waterfall splashes. So we do. Aside for that almost everything is normal (is it really Love Hina?) in terms of fan-service, funny thing - You will be able to meet Ken Akamatsu here, and Kitsune suddenly lives up to her 'reputation' of evil-schemer in this part, too bad it's actually original series (2 positions ago) when someone labeled her as such. She sure took her sweet time on her way, probably to drink anything with booze inside. Well - still I enjoyed this special the most thanks to Naru - Keitaro duo and sudden twist here - that's reason for Enjoyment - it is after all sth I desired very much and pretty long to occur... such change in their relation.

Onto the details, shall we get started?

I like this movie alot better than the christmas movie. Its very obvious if you watched the movie and then you will see why I like this one. That is why the animation should be better because of the girls but I must refrain from doing that. The music again is like used already in the series. So it nothing special. But one of the music called "LaLaLa" annoyed me alot. When you get to theat part cover your ears. The story is nothing special once again. It happened during the series, so nothing unique. Again, all of the characters are in it and a new girl name Nyamo, who doesn't talk much. But other than that, its nice to see everyone again. If you want to see more of this review, please read on.

well the worst of the love hina ova's but love hina nontheless. quite frankly no matter how bad a job can the maker's of love hina do they will succed in the end.
love hina spring special doesnt have a decent story and it doesnt help to evolve the main plot. in fact it does quite the opposite.
But the fans of the series will stille njoy watching all the main characters of the series getting themselves in another crazy adventure.
since it's a part from the entire love hina project fans check it out, if u cant u aint missing a lot though.

The Love Hina spring special is the better of the two Love Hina specials. After Keitaro thinks he failed the enterence exam AGAIN, he goes to work with Seta during the summer and the others follow. They meet a strange girl who sings, which is strange but you will see why. If you want to know more read my review.

I'd say this was probably the worst of the after-Love Hina pack (which includes this Spring Special, the Christmas Special that came before it, and the OVA that came after it). It's complete opposite of the Christmas Special. Where the Christmas was deep, serious, somewhat melancholy and inspiring, this Spring Special was overly zany and mindless. I'll say its decent to watch, but its not particularly funny. Kietaro is nervous about his performance on his entrance exam, randomly decides to leave and go on this weird wacky adventure that involves flying turtles and whatnot. Naru's angry about his random sudden depature and searches for him. The whole gang of women follow along. That's basically it. Sure, this Special was much more uplifting than the Christmas one, I just couldn't take this one seriously. Nothing really gets resolved in this one either except one storyline detail. As a Love Hina fan, I'd say watch this after the Christmas Special and THEN go onto the better OVA. If you didn't like Love Hina's zany humor, you're not gonna like this special. At least the OVA which came after this was bit better and more balanced than the prior two Specials. This is for true Love Hina fans, but others I wouldn't recommend. If you loved Love Hina's humor, you might like this one.

So we finally end the adventures of Keitaro and his harem from the Hina Inn(unless you count the OVA, but I'm not because it's crap). After a fairly mature and well put together Christmas special, the Spring Special returns the show to it's old tricks. All the randomness and slap-stick are back, and are back with a vengence. But to be honest, they overwhelm the show a bit and make it less enjoyable than it could have been. However, this is the type of ending I would expect from the King of Harem Shows!

Lol... this is shure dumb and dissapointing.

I don't know what was the point of making this exept capithalizing and cashing in on the Love Hina series success. This doesn't really have any real connection with the main story beeing just a filler, Keitaro thinks he failled the exam, becomes overwhalmed with guilt and dissapointment of not beeing able of keeping the promise, again, and flees the scene ending up on a tropichal island where the Professor is leading an expedition to find signs of the ancient flying turtle civilization, yeah and the island is filled with flying turtles, and a girl that looks like a sun tanned version of Shinobu that controls them by the power of music and ther's a giant Tomo-chan robot and a massive time of singing.

What's the point?, i don't get it, why this strange and really idiotic obsession over turtles? maybe the directors turtle died when he was young and filled with egret wanted to make shure that the turtle gets a spot light in this one,
and they made it into a musical? and why isn't there at the end any real character developement?

It really sucked, don't even bother watching this one, you'll end up really dissapointed.

You'll regret watching this.

It's not because of its mind-numbing awfulness or anything similar. But don't get me wrong, though -- the retarded faservice is still here (which is bad enough) but that's not the main reason as to why this sucks so much. It's because you'll HAVE to watch the horrendous OVA (which is even worse than this special -- if you can believe that) that comes after this if you want an ending. You should've just stopped at the Christmas Special to have some kind of decent ending - believe me, I, unfortunately, know.

I have no idea what the point of this special was. It seemed more like a another filler from the series that didn't lead to anywhere and was just an excuse for more ecchi - yet again... Sure, there were some important parts here that hard-core Love Hina fans wouldn't want to miss, but...it really isn't worth to dig under all the crap for it.

First, this special lacks a real story (at least the series tried to pretend it had some semblance of plot). It's basically Naru wanting to find Keitaro in an island after he thinks he failed his exam. Add in the backstory of a new girl (who looks like Shinobu for no reason at all) who can control ancient turtles by singing and you get this moronic special. Yay.

Almost all of the characters revert back to their former brainless selves without any character development except for Naru and Shinobu (though it's so little it'd be an insult to call it 'character development'). The new character's introduction, whose name I can't even remember (she's that bland and vapid) is pointless to the story. She contributes as much as that stupid doll in the series, and that's saying something.

The animation doesn't have that many changes except perhaps for the exaggeration of the female body. Big surprise there, I bet...

The BGM is very forgettable. No memorable tunes here (in fact, that stupid song that everyone starts singing made me want to pull my hair out).

Finally, don't watch this because it's very open ended and you'll be curious enough to watch the final OVA - an abomination to the Love Hina series.

If you watch it anyway, don't say I didn't warn you...

Ogh my god. My poor Love Hina!!! What the hell have they done?! Character designs somehow managed to become ugly. Music hurts your ears, on one particular scene a long song is performed and it is one of the most horrible music pieces I have ever heard.

It seems Love Hina managed to fall on its ass due to its huge popularity. It`s kind of hard to even talk about the characters or the story, since they are devoid of any logic whatsoever. Just a movie of mass fanservice, it really makes me sad, since in the manga this part was quite well done, really, it seems everything what`s rehashed from the manga is a good thing and everything what`s new is simply fanservice to make more profit. Damn, I really hate lame rehashs of great mangas, they`ve done the same thing with Rurouni Kenshin, yet it wasn`t as bad as this.... thing.

If you liked the TV series, give it a try, but you`ll probably hate it. If you didn`t like the TV series, then stay away from this as far as possible, not only you will hate it, but it`ll haunt you at the nights as well.
