| This version of Macross Plus is not very much different than the 4 episode mini-series. While at about half the price in America, one would be extremely tempted to buy this version over it's overpriced earlier version. This might not necessarily be the best thing to do.
After watching each version once, this is what I can tell the major differences are.
1. Additional scenes. Most of them are good, especially the opening sequence. The Sharon Apple concert at the end of the movie seems a little over the top and out of place. Most of the additional scenes are CGI, but some of them are true to the original cell animation.
2. Re-arranged scenes. This is hard to notice if you haven't watched the movie and series back to back, but I noticed it a couple of times. While I cannot give you any concrete exapmles right here (mainly for spoiler reasons) I think that I enjoyed the mini-series order slightly better than the order of scenes presented in the movie.
3. Deleted Scenes. This area i'm really scetchy on, so someone else please confirm this for me. I could swear that there was at least one scene that was deleted, but I can't be sure.
My ratings: 9/10 for Story, just because it was needlessly re-arranged, and especially if any scenes were deleted.
9/10 for value because even though i'm spending half the price, i'm only getting half the audio with the english track being completely stripped. Why is this?? God only knows. Maybe they were worried about putting such a good series on the market at such a low price ;-)
