This proved to be a very solid series, from start to finish. There were enough surprises to keep me interested and enough humor to keep me laughing. It was fairly predictable in some respects, but it wasn't trying to redefine the genre, so I think that is to be expected. Overall this anime comes well recommended, and well worth the time.

Rune Soldier is a fun fantasy anime with a doubtfull hero and a group of female adventurers. Think a more comedic version of Lotus Wars.
This is a quality series that has no serious flaws. I would recomend it to anyone.

Rune Soldier is a pretty solid fantasy/comedy. The animation is pretty good: nice charcter designs but some bland backgrounds. The dub was also well done and the music fitted the series pretty well. For those who want an epic fantasy won't be happy as it is lacking in story and action. Which that is my only compliant about this anime. It was very enjoyable but the story didnt really go anywhere. The characters in the story spend time going on adventures and that's the story. The charcters are well developed although some are definetley developed more than others. But they are all likeable. Rune Soldier is a very light fantasy that doesn't take itself seriously and good for a lot of laughs.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this, as I bought it sight unseen, as it were. I had no preconceived notions on what it was about, or anything and on the whole it was quite enjoyable, but the lack of character profiling and solid storyline left me feeling quite infulfilled and disinterested once it was over.
My first impressions were that it was quite good, quite amusing and I was reminded of many different anime as I was watching. It was like a mixture of Gokudo, The Slayers and Sorcerer Hunters all rolled into one, but it failed to deliver any of the excitement, comedy or wonderful characters that all those 3 have.

Very funny stuff! In the same vein as Saber Marionette but even better! An incredible fantasyadventure with some real goodfeel to it. Very enjoyable and funny and you just smile for the most part of the ride. The series has some darkness ans seriousness beneath the surface but the funny side has an advantage. Higly regarded and a great way to spend time if you wan to feel good!

I really enjoyed this show. It is one of those shows that is very simple to pop in your DVD player and just soak in. The first disc is definitely the best as far as laughs go, but the rest of the series is sprinkled with laugh-out-loud parts, as well.

The animation got worse through the middle of the show; a sign of little money for the producers. But overall, most of the animation seemed fluid.

Sound was nothing amazing but still crisp enough to receive an 8.

Story is somewhat lacking since this is an episodic anime. Of course, some of the best anime ever are episodic but Rune Soldier did not have the small story arcs or anything.

The characters in Rune Soldier is where the show shines. Louie can be absolutely hilarious, as can Merrill. Great characters.

Overall, I would recommend this show to any light-hearted anime fan as well as those who are looking for a little comedy.

This fantasy anime is pure mindless fun. The comedy is top notch especially in the first few episodes which had me splitting my guts. Comparable to FMP: Fumoffu level of comedy which is laughoutloud. The characters are all very interesting, from the greedy theif to the devoted follower of God, to a feminist warrior and the lovable lunk Louie himself.

The stories are pretty much standalone and it seems that the creators had a long run in mind based on popularity since this could go on for a couple more seasons. The one major flaw was that the jokes were repeated too often and lost their charm in the middle of the series and thats where the anime failed. The story is barely connected to all episodes and we see Loiue and gang going on adventures to uncover treasures only to fail in it. It was in the end very formulaic though there may be nothing wrong with that in a series such as this a little discrepancies from the norm would have been nice.

In the end this was a lot of fun to watch and something I'd recemmond for some lighthearted comedy as the characters keep you interested in watching throughout the series.

LOL This anime is just plan out funny. I even enjoy both the Eng and Jap versions. Its been a while since I watched an anime like this. Unlike most others animes it doesn't focus on a single character or a single characters motive. It doesn't revolve around a main bad guy or a main character becoming stronger.

It just about them going on adventures, with random situations thrown their way. This anime is great because it doesn't take itself serious and just has fun with everything.

I highly recommned this anime. Its one of the few that will sit down and watch over and over and enjoy more and more. Just within the last few months. I have watched this series a good 4 times straight not including watching my favorite episodes over and over.

There should so be more animes like Louie the Rune Soldier. Funny (as hell), tons of action, great and have to love characters, beautiful animation, amd an awesome sound on both english and jap versions.

I was impressed the first time i watched a few episodes of Rune Soldier. It had all the positive aspects of the comedy genre in a well balance mix, unlike Trigun. However, as i watched it to end, it didn't stain me like ink. Unfortunately, the dull storyline and the somewhat repetitive jokes get in the way very quickly. My main point of reference for reviewing this anime is Trigun. It is so, because both almost have identical styles.

You will notice from the first few episodes that the animation style of Rune Soldier Louie is commercial. There isn't anything worth noticing, but the overall effect is a commercially consumable product with a good range of colors and very few textures/shadows. This way of doing things is present in all aspects of the show.

The setting is a copycat of a very successful commercial game, Dungeons & Dragons. The characters are taken straight from an AD&D character sheet. The spells, magical objects and monsters are also taken from AD&D. Nothing has been invented while crafting the storyline and characters, it's all digested material. Of course, if you like AD&D, like myself, this doesn't represent a huge problem, but it's part of the problem nonetheless.

If you're the person writing the script, this kind of setup can be a blessing as you can gain total control of what your characters do. Unlike Trigun, where the storyline got in the way and almost annihilated all good dialogues, Rune Soldier Louie doesn't feel bounded to some idealistic morales. This makes most of the screenplay run smoothly, however this is where the positive of the technic ends. The rest is up to the scripters and it didn't go as well as it should have gone.

Most of the characters have been given obvious and cliched personalities. Very few seconds are spent on their backgrounds and the dialogues are extremely predictable. In other words, they failed after a good start. They ran out of jokes after a couple of episodes and thought they could patch this up with some classic "i'm too dumb to avoid logs in grass and fall". After a while, they saw the bad effects and decided to run the same previous gags all over again.

You are left hoping for a decent ending for a large portion of the show and only 15% of it is dedicated to make it work. Fortunately, the end is good and doesn't leave the show's classical jokes (for there's only a few) fresh in your mind. A recommended viewing, but certainly not a collectible item.

This surprisingly was a very funny series! I laughed pretty hard on the gags and slap stick. I will admit that I don't normally enjoy fantasies, but this is one of three fantasy titles that I've enjoyed thoroughly most especially due to its effective comedy.

So you have a guy that wants to be an adventurer, turns out to be a great fighter and is pretty strong...and he's also a sorceror. Add three female adventurers to drag him around (a thief, a cleric and a paladin), and throw in tons of comedy and Lodoss references and you got Mahou Senshi Riui.

First off, PLEASE do not compare this series to Slayers. Considering this is a very distant spinoff of the Lodoss Universe, there's already a world of difference. Anyway, Riui is completely based on comedy, which is a nice change of pace. The classic RPG setting is also a good break from what we see in anime the rest of the time.

The meat and potatoes of this series is in the characters themselves, since they are all pretty comical and we get to understand them a little better as the series progresses.

There is not much of a plot going on, and this being a series about adventures, I don't think I can blame them for being so all over the place. Also, considering the manga was built under a similar structure, it was only to be expected. A relaxing show for anyone wanting to take a break from romantic comedies and other dime-a-dozen genres.

This anime defently is underrated, when I first saw the ADV preview for this I thought it was going to be some crap anime that would really suck. I was plesently surpised.

The animation is nice and well done, the sound is okay but nothing thats really that great or really bad either, the voice acting is done nice in both the dub and the jap. The basic story is that Louie wants to go on adventures, and he meets these female adventures and one of them gets a revelation that she must serve her hero who oddly enough is Louie, the story is basicly they're adventures, although the story really doesn't have a plot to rap it up until the end the story is very much enjoyable and I don't see any reason that this anime should be plot drivin its just not needed. Each of the characters develop thoughout the show and the most character deveopment really does prove that you can't judge people just by how they look and act, that you have to look though they're faults to find the true good in people. The anime is a desent watch and it will keep you entertained, I only wish they're was another season to it!

I'm reviewing this having watched it more than I can count. As some of the previous reviews said, this anime is SERIOUSLY underrated. Of course, there is no real plot, except for the last 3 episodes (if you consider that as a plot).

Anyway, back to my 2 cents: There's nothing special about the animation. From first glance, the art style is not as clean and well-drawn as one would hope (Feels old), and the sound is just alright. I'm not even going talk about the story. There is none!

But when it comes to character, value and enjoyment, you'll LOVE this anime. True, there's hardly much character development either, but you'll love the characters and their personality. I've watched this anime more than I can count, so I'm giving it a 10.

Finally, as for enjoyment. People say you can't flog a dead horse. But in this case, it actually does work. You'll see some really classic jokes executed most hilariously. I laughed when watching the first episode, I ROFL when I watched the last episode. You just can't help enjoying all the classic jokes and punchlines that's packed in this anime.

Verdict? MUST watch! Don't be put off by the lack of storyline (there's NONE). This is a great anime to behold.

Let me say this wasn't fun at all, indeed I found it even disturbing in some points. Louie is simply dumb, not fun; there is a thin line that saparates comic from ridicolous, and Louie surpasses it by far.
And I can't find any good point that can make up for it. It's ecchi, and I hate fan-service. It's in rpg form, and I hate anime based on rpgs.
And there's no plot at all, both because of the episodic nature, both because it concentrates on Louie's actions. And I can't say I didn't give it a chance, since I saw it through the end, that - you can imagine - was simply stupid.
Animation & sound aren't so bad, but I think an anime should be more based on plot and characters, so I think that average resulting score is better then what I think about this anime.
A true disappointment; if you're looking for a fun anime based on rpg, try Mahoujin Guruguru.

Not bad, not bad at all. I laugh most of the time while watching this series. The story get no where, but that's ok. The point of the story is that Louie can be a hero. They didn't go out the town much, also they didn't use any super power in the story. It just typical adventure anime. Too bad the ending was kinda off a little bit.

Its good, just nowhere near great. Like Sorcerer Hunters, the comedy seems to be rehashed after the first DVD. Also like Sorcerer Hunters, its an ADV release, so you even have the same English voices for all the characters.

One of the less known animes around, probably because it got licensed so quickly.

This anime gave me a very good first impression with the clean animation and the colorful personalities of the cast.

The anime also does a good job on the humor department as well.

This anime isn't as focused on the story as some of the other mainstream animes, but it does a good job at what it's really trying to do, and that is to make people laugh.

Overall, it was an enjoyable series with lively characters and a somewhat cliched ending, a fun ride while it lasts.

I'll admit, it's not as bad as I first thought it was, but I still find the characters inceidly stupid (and almost the entire female cast intolerable), the plot non-existant, and the voice acting average at best.

Not to original but very funny to watch.

I love the animation, so colourfull and well drawn. The story though isn't too great it's mostly adventuring and character development until the last eps. but i liked it anyway.

I really liked the characters, Riui was great in his own clumsy way (RIUI PUNCH!! ^^). I liked the rest also, mostly Jeannie and the Elf girl.
Melissa was a bit of a pain in the beginning when she only dreamt of her Ideal Hero, but later on I liked her.

The sound was great! The opening (Twinkle Trick) is one of the best i have seen.

I think most people would like this serie, mostly because of the humour.
