| This anime seriously deserve 10/10. It is a great anime in Japan an is perhaps one of the most popular anime in Japan. If you are a person who is looking for a long serie to watch and enjoy, I recommend you watch detective conan. As of right now, there is about 480 episodes. This amount will definitely last you a long time. The animation is alright along with every thing else. Most of the episodes is about the the young main character solving mysteries that always grabs your attention. There is also a lot of love stories that is related to this show. This show is about a very famous detective teenage boy who was shrunked into an elementary school kid by a mysterious organization that he trys to bring down. While he trys to bring the organization down, he solves other mysteries while living with his girlfriend even though his girlfriend does not know that he has shrunked. The story gets more and more complex while at the same time it gets more and more interesting.

| ::Based on the first 196 episodes::
This is the very best detective series I have ever seen, taking Detective Academy Q and Kindaichi Shounen no Jikenbo into account. It is also the longest anime I have ever watched too. It is amazing how many mysteries Aoyama Gosho and his crew have to come up and yet, they all maintain the same suspense and thrill. I have yet to solve even one mystery, but this is not the only aspect that make this anime great: underneath the minor crimes hides the larger mystery of the syndicate and their mysterious plot.
Animation: I have never been too fond of the art; after all, it is rather old-fashion. However, it has greatly improved over the years and now, I enjoy it because it's different from the modern shiny-glossy animation.
Sound: The background music is not unique or amazingly astounding, but when the plot calls for it, the sound does its job in providing the best effect. The opening and ending songs gradually improved, forcing me to download it. ^_^
Story: While there are mini-cases or semi-large ones that cover more than an episode, the plot is not ruined. Each case is just as exciting and suspenseful. Unlike some stories in which the audience would never have been able to solve the mystery without actually being on the crime scene, most of Detective Conan's cases shows all the evidences; it depends if the audience can really solve them themselves or else, they can just be amazed by Conan's deductive reasoning. Even more exciting than the mini-cases is the mystery behind the syndicate. Interlooping the storyline are occasional humor and empathy when Conan has to hide his identity from Ran. One can not be bored watching this series.
Character: Besides Conan, no one else really stands out. However, each character is unique and one gradually comes to appreciate them all, even the criminals. The characters represent different perspectives of our societies, and it is regrettable that some good guys had to be jailed for killing bad guys.
Enjoyment: I love this series ever since I first saw it. Although I wonder when the series will ever end and the final mystery comes to a close, I still enjoy the full effect of each case and each danger.
I highly recommend this anime for those bored and enjoy mysteries. Don't expect to finish the whole thing in a day however as it is still ongoing past 400+.

| This review is based on the first 425 episodes. Having sat through that many episodes, I can claim fanboy status, and my review will reflect this.
Animation:
The quality of the animation has steadly improved since its inception 10 years ago, but even in the begining, the characters are affable and are a big reason why this anime works. Some of my favorite animation though involve small details such as the lighting on conan's glasses as he lowers head in thought. However, while pretty, the style is unoriginal and (obviously) repetitive, preventing this from recieving a perfect score.
Sound:
This anime has some of the best sounds in anime, with many OP and ED sang by popular groups. My favorites are the original OP1, fateful OP4, exciting OP5, Jpop exemplars OP7, OP10, OP12, and I miss OP16 now it's over. In the endings, there are nice soft songs like ED3, ED14, ED19, exciting ones like ED5 and ED8 as while as Jpop exemplars ED9 ED18. The background music and songs are also great, with my favorite been Kimi ga Ireba. Voice acting just gets more and more consistent and realistic as the years go by, and now that the voice actress for conan married conan's creator, it feels like a destined pairing.
Story:
This anime is about a high school detective been shrunk into a kid by the black organizations, involving great plot twists, mystery, and especially romance.
While the length of the anime may be problematic for some, as most of the episodes (or 2 episode stories) are independent criminal cases, this anime can be easily condensced to less than 50 episodes in order to understand the larger story of conan and the black organization. Yet even the independent cases are realistic, engaging, and often filled with emotional circumstances and sometimes one can't help but sympathize with the criminal. In addition to the main plot and independent stories, many side characters has their own arcs of romance and backstory spread across the 400+ episodes so far, and these are often the most looked-forward to episodes.
Character:
Conan/Shinichi is a highly sympathetic character who has a high sense of justice and his romantic relationship with Ran is one of the focal points of the anime. While conan sometimes gets lucky, the fact that he uses his intellect to thwart the criminal and black organization makes the stories fun to watch. Of the female leads, while some may feel Ran is bland, between Ran and Ai, the viewer is bound to love one of them. Ran is brave and kind like other heroines but packs a punch while Ai is intelligent and dark. Other than the leads, side characters such as Conan's parents, Ran's friend, the detectives at the police department and the villians at the black organization are all interesting characters with backstories slowly revealed and characters slowly developed. Though the speed maybe be too painful for most.
Value:
While most criminal cases can only be watched once, alot of the seemingly innoculous but turns-out-to-be-plot-related episodes need to be watched again to fully see all the hints. Being a detective story, one learns quite a bit about various crime scene facts, but since Conan travels all around the country interacting with people from all walks of life, one also learns much about Japanese landmarks, people, and culture.
Enjoyment:
Conan is not meant to be seen in one sitting. The enjoyment is spread across a long period of time and accentuated at the particularly good and/or plot-related episodes.

| I have been following this anime for nearly ten years and this is by far, the best anime that I have watched.
I am particularly fascinated by the depth and complexity of the manga. It may first come across as 'just' detective series where the protagonist solves murder cases. However, if observed further, Detective Conan is far beyond that. The murder cases are used to push the plot forward, which happens to be Shinichi/Conan's journey to hunt down the Black Organisation - it is amazing how little details in each series can pay great significance to the plot; it is like jigzaw pieces that you have to collect one by one to solve the entire big picture of a puzzle. In each cases, we are given little clues that can connect to Black Organization. Well I am not saying that the murder cases are useless - they're actually overwhelmingly hard and it absorbs you in such away that you're trying so hard to solve the riddle (that is safe to say, you'll be actively engaged in the anime).
Even though it has lots of murder cases, it also has its portions of other criminal cases such as kidnapping, hijacking, drug-dealing, missing person, robbery, blackmailing etc etc. that's what makes it different to other detective animes that exist out there - those that just involve in bloody serial killing. Never fear, even though the series is intense, you'll still find refreshing humour in this anime. There is also a touch of romance between the characters, that will make it very interesting to see how the characters develop their relationships.
The series is unarguably long - however, it never tires me because I find myself to see how EACH character develops. Another thing that I like about Conan, is how complex and deep ots characters are. Most characters have their share - to tell the audience about their past and their current personal traits. What is even more fascinating, the characters are 'normal' and 'likeable' in which, if we analyze further, can be extremely deep and complex. Therefore, the audience can immediately travel and empathize towards the characters' emotional journey and learn from how they overcome the obstacles in their life.
On the other hand, the 'bad' characters are not cliche or boring, they're actually the ones that makes the anime more interesting and they add more mistery and suspense to the anime - not to mention that the bad characters are rich of depth!
Not only that I find this anime entertaining, it is also meaningful. It teaches you a lot of things about courage, compassion, truth, how to face challenges depite your tragic past etc etc. These are the lessons that we awaken our conscience as human beings.
The art may suffer, because it was produced quite a long time ago. However, I believe that the storyline and the meanings of the anime can overcome this problem ^^. I truly recommend this anime.

| This is a really good series, something that should be obvious when you look at the fact that there are 420+ episodes and the series has not yet ended. The one thing about the anime is the OVERWHELMING amount of filler episodes. There are probably between 3 and 5 filler episodes per episode that comes from manga. However this is the kind of series that it can work out in. Although the hannin (criminal) of the day can get rather tiring, the shounentanteidan episodes provide an interesting sidetrack from all of that.

| Best detective anime series ever.
In a merely short 24 minutes episode, you will be confronted with cases of murder, stolen goods or kidnapping cases. I have yet to completely figure out a single case by myself. The clues presented could be subtle and devious, but the amazing thing is: Conan manages to put it all together at the end and guess what? It all makes good logical sense!
You will find yourself on the edge of your seat as Conan reveals the tricks or the flawed alibis of the criminals. You will not want to miss a single episode at all.

| This is a very fun and provacative anime that is very easy to get addicted too despite how they use the same murder methods after a few hundred episodes. I have to say, watching a few episodes every now and then is the best way to watch this anime, or else you'll get way too tired of it too quickly and that'd be a shame because this is really good over the long run.
The episodes aren't really tied together except for a few specials that further some overarching theme (the men in black or the romance with ran) , so there is no point in watching the hundreds of episodes in one go anyway. There also a lot of weak episodes... episodes where you could have sworn that you've seen them somewhere before, but not exactly.
The storyline for each episode is pretty repetitive throughout. They use the same framework for different situations. They have maybe 7 or so basic frameworks and they just unravel a story around this basic idea. However, I am amazed how they manage to make it seem so fresh and and fun nearly all of the time. Again, be warned, if you watch many episodes at once, it WILL get repetitive. Take a break, watch some a few a day and you'll craving more.
The characters are slowly developed. Against popular belief, they actually DO develop, and I have been a huge fan of those episodes where relationships are improved every once in awhile, I think one of the strongest points to this anime is how lovable the characters are. They may seem to be static but they have great personalities. I really love Shinichi's character as well as Haibara Ai. Ran is kind of clueless, but there are hints of her changing and realizing what is going around her.
For those seeking to solve the mysteries in who-dun-it novels like Encyclopedia Brown, this is not it! Detective Conan tells a story! It is not something you can gather the clues that they show and try to figure it out before Conan. Sure you can try to guess, but there are always various key steps missing that make it difficult to guess completly.
Overall, Detective Conan is one of those long anime series that I just can't get enough of. While it is not the most engrossing or emotional anime I've encountered, it is fun and exciting. I'm always anticipating those gem episodes which tell the story of the characters themselves but the mystery episodes are also worth watching too.
Note: I've seen up to episode 193 and all the movies. I recommending watching the movies, they are all very good - essentially they are condensed versions of the anime series, with all action as the main focus. Ep 129 is great in terms of character development, don't miss it if you're a fan!!!
Update 07/22/06:
Watched many more storyline episodes including: 219,230-231,253-254,258-259,271,272,277-278,284-288,356,435,436
Definitely great episodes.

| Ive seen over 50 episodes of this and it is a great series. The animation is pretty good and I like the music and the acting. This is a mystery/anime. I like the characters. My favorite is Richard. He thinks he is solving all these cases when it is really Jimmy, who was changed into a kid solving them. What I saw was the dub which is why Im referring to them as their english names. There is a new case every one or two episodes. And there have been none that I disliked. I defininetly plan to watch more.

| Ok if you just read the information on the anime you might be thinking twice about watching this. yet still this anime is extremely addictive and extremely long and is still on going in japan. and it's long for a good reason because this anime is very very good..there are many many many fillers in this anime but it's all worth it and it's fun to watch and think about the case and then finding out what happen in the end. i have yet to figure out a case on my own because after the first one which was easy they just getting harder and harder..at the end of some of the later case you sit there and think what the hell just happen..but that's what got me into it..i want to solve one on my own and plus the characters are all interesting and the development is at it's highest..you learn so much about each character even the side characters...you have to remember almost every little piece of information in a case because some of the stuff you might were thinking was pointless has the biggest impact on the case...if you want something to sit down and enjoy watching it you should really think about watching Detective Conan. and get the movies also because those are great as well. just because there are massive amounts of fillers doenst mean nothing happens..many things happen in Detective Conan about the main plot of the men in black and there are many more shocks to come...also if you seen this anime you should really think of checking out the manga because it's even better because there are other cases in there that werent in the anime because the anime has a lot of self made cases and cases that people write and send in to see if they might actually be made into an episodes most of the newer episodes are doing that right now. fans send in ideas and stories and they are made into episodes. and another thing about the manga is you shouldnt buy the licensed version titled "Case Closed" they have a lot of stuff cut out from the original and they change some of the stuff around. but stills the english version is good just not the greatest. this is one of the most addicting animes i've come across so if you like mystery type animes you will surely enjoy this.

| Detective Conan is a fun detective/mystery series that stays somewhat fresh despite its length. The animation is simple but cute while the music is passable. The characters are entertaining for the most part at first blush, but the length of the series really hurts as there is virtually no development.
This is a series of one shot mysteries with a rare glimpse here and there as to the resolution of the overall plot. Still, this is a lot of fun to watch and I can see why it's the highest rated anime in Japan. That popularity may hurt the overall quality of the show, as the series continues with 350+ and a handful of movies, with no sign of slowing down anytime soon.
Just a couple of random observations:
1) Despite Japan's low murder rate and overall crime rate, there are a lot of dead people on this show.
2) Ran's skirt seems to get shorter with every show and her bust gets, well, you can watch for yourself.
3) With the numerous amount of times Mouri Kogoro hits Conan, you think the police would be on his case for child abuse...
4) I find it very amusing that the seiyuu for Dr. Agasa is Myouga from InuYasha and the seiyuu for Shinichi is the same as InuYasha...and Conan happens to air after InuYasha....

| Well, what? Being a big detective conan fan (with almost all manga and some DVDs), I am gonna give it some high rating. Although it is getting rather repetitive, it is still great (as most murder cases are quite unpredictable). I like manga better (as always) as anime's make up cases are just too predictable. The art work is great, characters are cool, and as u can see from my name, Sherry (Ai Haibara) is my favourite character ^^

| The animation quality is not what you call great, but then again it is made a while ago and i took that into consideration. The animation styles is wonderful once you get use to it, I just love it.
The music is pretty good, and voice talents are so great.
The story is like just a lot of mysteries files, some are not that believable, but others are great. The story develops in a way that makes you want to watch every episode, even though they are very much unrelated to each other.
The characters are funny and interesting to watch.
It is rated the most popular anime in Japen for a reason, and being so long you know it has some value.
It is funny and serious, a great enjoyment especially to those who like mystery files.

| Quite addictive but this series is really looooooooooooong! Let me see, currently season 7 or 8 in japan? The manga is also neverending!! vol.43 and still only have some information on the blackmen. But at least, the boss of the blackmen had spoken. No doubt, it will still take another 20-30 volumes, before it ends.
But still it's good and I never regret buying the 5 seasons of episodes + movies, etc. But still... I find there's too many murder cases.

| This suspenseful mystery series is not hard to get addicted to. As much as the each-week-mystery may be repetetive for some, they all make you want to watch to find out who the criminal is and how they do it. It also has many side stories to keep you on your feet. As much as it is one of those never-ending series, it is very entertaining. Mystery lovers shouldn't miss it!

| Detective Conan is insanely popular in Japan (I saw Conan ramen in Kyoto), but seems to be little known in the US, with only the first few of 200+ episodes even fansubbed. It centers on the adventures of Kudo Shinichi, a brilliant high school detective who winds up turned back into a little kid (Conan) when mysterious men in black knock him out and give him a pill they'd thought would kill him. He winds up moving in with his childhood friend, Ran, because her dad runs a detective agency, although he's the worst detective alive. With Conan around, this starts to change.
Overall, it's a good series with a good cast--the character designs take a little getting used to (could their ears be any bigger?) but the animation's pretty good and the stories are interesting. Most of Conan is an episodic mystery show, but there are some longer-term plot threads and even a bit of a love triangle later in the series. Hopefully more comes out, from what I saw it was good--if you liked Spiral, you'd probably love this.
