Hellsing done right. The first seires was a lame emo fetish with bad animation and worse music. It's biggest crime however, was diverting from the source material, Hirano's exceptional manga.

The OVA's are bloody good fun, the characters and locations look beautiful with richly detailed costumes, weapons, backgrounds, and fight scenes. The story is epic and does not fall prey to the aimless fight after fight without any clear direction that plagues other animes. While some of its attempts and humor left me cold, the rest was pure gold.

I hate most animes, very few I like, even less I love. This was the first anime I truly loved. And if you love copious amounts of blood, gore, and breasts, then Hellsing OVA is for you.

Overall Hellsing is NOT for all, most of ppl would hate it, it's violent, gory, but it's very COOL and fun! A must love-it or hate-it

I of course was bullied into watching this by my good friends, and I have to say, it was fairly enjoyable. If you've never seen Hellsing, it doesn't matter, as it stands fairly well alone, but it stands better with the series behind you.

if you're looking for a way to relieve 2.5 hours of your time with some good old fashioned darkness and bloodlust, and you enjoyed the original Hellsing series, you will most probably not be disappointed, though you most likely won't be awed or inspired either.

A gorgeous anime that stays fiercely true to its manga roots. One of those rare anime titles in which the English dub is better than the original Japanese (yes, they DO exist). Most certainly worth watching.

The Hellsing OVA takes the original series and modifies it to more closely match the manga. The first volume is basically a recap of the original in its content. It is violent and action packed, but could be confusing to someone who doesn't know the previous version.

Just goes to show, you should read reviews beforehand to get insight into what you'll actually be getting before watching certain anime titles!

I was under the wrong impression that this was a continuation of the original Hellsing anime series (which I loved BTW), but was majorly disappointed to discover it's just a condensed, re-hashed version of an existing anime.
As the old saying goes "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"!

There seems to be a modern trend for re-doing a lot of series and I can't see the point in re-making something that isn't even dated. Also, having no knowledge of the manga means nothing to me, I don't care how more faithfully adapted this was, as I felt there was far less character interation and therefore less chance for me to actually like anyone in this!

I think my overall view of Hellsing would be clouded if I only had this to go on! OK, so there was a stunning amount of over the top gore and blood-shed, but overall this OVA was a major let-down.

This is the only anime I can honestly give 10 to all scores on, even judging it objectivly...

Animation:
Absolutley superb. Very high class animation and in a style that fits the series extremly well.

Sound: The soundtrack in the original TV series was better yes but the sounds and music here is superb as well, one of the best soundtracks ever.

Character: This is what really drives the anime. Alucard, the main caracther is one of the most impressive caracthers I have ever seen with an extreme attitude, and a eerie coolness about him that surpasses anything else by a mile. In additon the other caracthers are also all utterly awsome. Seras, Intergral, Walter, all awsome beyond recognition.

Story: The story has been completely revamped from the tv series, following the manga storyline instead of the tv series storyline wich went way of course. The manga storyline is so much better that its not even compareable and it will bring enemies and caracther development that are a awe to behold.

Value: One of the best animes ever, simple as that.

Enjoyment: Everyone I know that has watched this absolutley loves it. It almost cant be watched too many times.

[Based on the first and second OVAs]

I like the switch of animation from the more generic animation to the style of the Hellsing manga (which really enhances the surreal feel of the series), but the music, which was a highlight of the original series, was not as powerful and did not do much to enhance the series.

Also, after reading the manga, it seems this OVA follows the path and drawing/animation style of the manga. In addition, the events from the manga and the characterizations of Alucard and Seras follow the manga much more closely. This leads to characters which seem to have more depth, especially Seras, as she struggles with her transition to her "no-life".

The story is drawn straight from the manga in these OVAs: that means there is an intricate plot that was not found in the original series and the story is much more exciting.

The OVA is a bit more sexually-inclined and mature than the series; the conflict this causes, especially with Seras, is an ineresting change from the series.

Alucard, Seras, Judas Priest, and Hellsing were all in top form in the OVA, just as in the series, though Priest was fleshed out more and it will be good to see more of him as the new OVAs continue to be released.

Overall, the OVAs have been very good so far, and I cannot wait until the next installment. I would reccomend these OVAs to any fans of the Hellsing manga or of vampires or horror anime in general; Hellsing is an amusing thrill ride from start to finish.

To make things clear, this OVA is my personal biggest disappointment of the year.
Weakest point is the music, and overall I'd say that it has no "soul". In one word, I would say that this OVA is too... academical/formatted.

Long time after the anime Hellsing by GONZO was released comes this OVA, which I can say is practically a summary of the manga. The character designs are just like in the manga, from Seras' outfit to Intrega's hair. The animation is above average but what really makes it looks so good is the CG which is in perfect syncronization with the characters. The music is outstanding. This time it's not so crazy and nonsense (but it fit really well the atmosphere of the anime afterall), but now it's more serious and orchestrated.

The story is obviously rushed, afterall this is a type of intro for the next part of Hellsing's story which wasn't revealed in the GONZO series, therefore the characters do not have a development other than Seras being confused about what had she become. I really enjoyed watching this OVA, it's like watching Hellsing with new visuals and the CG effects are really enjoyable, pure eye candy. I can't wait for the next!

I dont share the same opinion than the previous reviewer for various reasons .
First of all i dislike the previous anime of Hellsing .

I was complete butchering of the original source , the manga .
I gonzo's adaptation we not only lost plenty of scenes and events , but got cheated instead with crappy new ones and the silly foe that was Incognito .
Of course one could argue that Gonzo didnt have much material to go with (even right now Hellsing is only at vol 9 i believe) ... but no one forced them to adapt such an unfinished and not even halfway done story .

I was even impressed by the first ep .. then the animation quickly became subpar , and the following eps quickly became horridly paced fillers , until the completely original and awful end . In short from hellsing previous career in anime , i'll only remember its awesome soundtrack .

As for Ultimate Helling its everything the Tv should have been . The design is similar to the manga , and with the top notch animation , gives a beautiful , fluid and eerie result .
The scenes with Father Anderson are sppoky and beautiful as it should be . He is finally given the importance he deserves in the plot , and finally a decent voice as well .

Definitely a masterpiece for the fan of the real Hellsing ... saves of course the lack of an opening and ending .
