| Well this is such a fun anime I watched as as a kid (when I watched it) but for more grown-up viewers it's not gonna impress much.
other magical girl animes:
Akazukin Cha CHa, Sailor moon, cutey honey flash.

| I had first watched this show when it first came out in 95 but I rewatched it recently and I'm glad that I did. The animation made me twitch a little in my seat but it wasn't too bad. The story was fun to follow up with although I didn't quite like the characterization. Watching Auska Jr. trying ro catch Saint Tail was awfully painful sometimes but overall, I quite enjoyed the show.

| Saint Tail easily comes off as your normal Magical-Girl genre. Of course she doesn't use any "real" magic, but even her magician magic seem kind of unrealistic at times and I didn't know a person can easily jump from house top to house top in one jump. Of course bit*hing about these small problems doesn't really solve anything. The characters are your usually hyperactive out-spoken girl that like's her rival, and vice-versa(sadly the main concept of magical girl shoujo-manga). While parts of it were actually interesting it blew it with the many caper-per-episode routine like most Magical-girl genre's do.

| Saint Tail is the nom de guerre for Haneoka Meimi, a junior high student who attends Catholic junior high school with her best friend Seira, a nun-in-training. She's always getting into fights with Asuka Jr., the son of a local police detective, but also seems to care about him--although he seems obsessed with the mysterious thief Saint Tail, who steals back things that were unjustly taken from others.
This is a really good shoujo series, with Meimi and Asuka Jr. being the main couple in the series. There are other characters and events that try to keep them apart, but it's pretty clear to the viewer, if not to Meimi and Asuka Jr., that they like each other. Although Meimi does wonder if Asuka Jr. is really more interested in Saint Tail, in a couple episodes where she's essentially a little jealous of herself. The plot's pretty much "caper of the week", where someone comes to Seira with a problem, Seira assures them God will help them, and then enlists Meimi as Saint Tail to steal something back for the person. The cops and Asuka Jr. invariably fail to catch her, although they get close occasionally, and Asuka Jr. and Saint Tail in spite of their pursuit save each others' necks a few times when things are dangerous.
The character designs and animation are OK, but maybe a little below average, especially for a mid-90s show, and the transformation sequences make Cardcaptor Sakura's seem short, but they're essentially unavoidable in mahou shoujo. The character designs are just OK, but grow on you after a while, just don't expect Cardcaptor Sakura-level animation. As a mahou shoujo. show, Saint Tail is unique because she doesn't have any magic powers--Meimi's father is a magician, and she uses the magic tricks she learned from him to evade capture, but there's no supernatural element here. Overall, Saint Tail is a cute, light-hearted show that's just fun to watch, with a good cast, and typically heart-warming endings to each episode.

| This is one of my favorite magical girls series, partly b/c it deviates from the traditional magical girls theme in several important ways. One is that the main character Meimi, doesn't have any long drawn-out transformation or attack, a definite plus. Plus she is very capable, and not a klutz who always has to be rescued or helped by others. The story itself is very sweet, though it moves a little slowly at times. I just love the ending of this though & it's very romantic. If you like shoujo or magical girls shows then this one is a must!
