| I first saw this anime when I was in 3rd grade. The violent sword fights blew my mind, the monsters scared me, and Kagero made me feel funny...in a good way. This was my first introduction to anime.
Looking back now as a young adult, I appreciate it all the more. The animation still holds up today with kickass fights, grotesque creatures, and hot dames. The story is average, but the romance between Jubei and Kagero is what really made it special since it felt authentic rather than tacked on.
This is classic anime, most modern titles dilute the violence and have no sex appeal (unless it's over the top hentai) in order to reach the widest market. This has the right amount of both making for a great viewing experience.

| Ninja Scroll is an impressive 100 minute long ronin anime movie made in 1993.
The animation and graphics of Ninja Scroll are not only of very high quality, but the style is also unique and the use of shadows excellent. The character designs might not look very good on pictures, but in the actual movie, they fit perfectly. Definitely top quality back in its time, and still impressive to this day.
The music fit in well with the mood of the scenes, although the sound effects are an occasional let down. The voice acting is of high quality, but the OST is nothing to be excited about. Ninja Scroll has decent sound that does not impact the movie in a negative way.
Ninja Scroll has a very good storyline. There are a number of unexpected twists which makes the movie very interesting to watch. However, I did find most action scenes to be a bit too short, and people die too easily when compared to the lead characters. Nevertheless, Ninja Scroll is very exciting to watch with its fast paced; action packed; witty storyline.
Not a lot of character development happens in Ninja Scroll, and occasionally the strengths, not personality, of some characters are inconsistent. Somehow, the lack of character development complements the storyline by making everyone seem mysterious and unpredictable. For a movie like Ninja Scroll, the character development is very well done.
Ninja Scroll is a very good movie. Its high quality animation, gripping storyline and mysterious cast would make anyone fascinated in the ronin genre. However, do keep in mind that this is not a movie for an underage audience. There is an anime series out, following the success of Ninja Scroll, but the quality of the series does not live up to its name.

| after watching the tv series ninja scroll was surprisnigly enjoyable. the concept is pretty much the same with jubei fighting his enemies one after another but somehow the movie succeds in sucking you into the plot. the animation was done well for 1993 and the sound was very good.
ANIMATION
i like that style of drawing. it seems a bit old-fashioned to most of the viewers but i like it better than most of the aniamted stuff today. the facial exressions were done with love to the detail. when jubei or kagero get pissed the expression on their faces is so funny and likeable. the hairstyle of the characters was pretty good but the fights didnt really convince me. very bloody and endless fights. i got tired of it in the end. 7 points for the animation because it is from 1993. it all looks very good and i never got annoyed but still i am used to better things.
SOUND
the sound is exceptional. it sucks you into the fight. during the movie there is hardly any music and the ending song makes you very sad. 8 points for the sound because i missed to hear more music from the tokugawa time and music fitting the situations
CHARACTER
the main focus in ninja scroll is like in the tv series kibagmi jubei. he is a cool fighter who is very strong and has a very strong technique. he wields his sword and the wind destroys the enemy. he is fighting during the whole movie and never loses of yourse. he even beats the immortal bad guy. jubei travels alongside kagero a beautiful girl of a ninja clan. she seeks revenge for her killed clan colleagues and joins into the group of jubei because they share the same enemy. then there is a straneg monk who works for the tokugawa clan. he appears to be a good and bad guy like in the series. he poisons jubei to have him follow his orders. otherwise jubei will not receive the antidote. thats the group of the 3 travelers who the story is focused on. 6 points for the characters because unlike the tv series they gave them an identidy. kageros body is poisoned and everybody who makes love to her dies. the monk plays bad tricks with jubei and he wouldnt care if jubei died after succeding in his mission. and jubei wants to fght his old enemy he thought to have once killed again. they all have their goals and it is fun watching them reach it.
STORY
the story is about the toyotomi family hiring the kimon to bring them the gold they need to pay the war against tokugawa. the gold had sunken together with a ship and now seems lost. the monk who works for tokugawa watches jubei fight one of the kimon and notices that jubei is incredibly strong. he poisons him and persuades him to join him to defeat the kimon. jubei then learns that the leader of the kimon is a man he though to be dead long ago. kagero joins the group because she wants to uncover the deads of the nearby village. it seemed to be a disease was spreading and many died but the kimon killed the whole village to have an easy business.
jubei and kagero fall in love an make love to each other because she is the antiodote jubei needs to stay alive. sounds pretty fishy. when kagero dies she gives him her frontbound that saves jubei in the end. 6 points for the story because there is again too much worthless fighting of jubei. but unlike the series they really put much more though into this. and the stuff about tokugawa brings in some historical settings as well.
VALUE
it is unnecessary violent in many scenes. i dont really know why it has to be shown this way all the time. do you really like to see a head getting sliced into half with lots of blood squirting around. also many fights witha predictable end. that all piles up to a low rate in value. 5 points because it was some simple-minded stuff you can watch and enjoy every time. it lacks some depth but still makes fun at some times.
ENJOYMENT
i really liked ninja scroll and was surprised about the movie being this good. the tv show appeared to be so crapy that i thought to not watch the movie. i am gld i did watch it though. now i can tell you to skip the series and solely watch the movie. it has an intriguing story that keeps you attracted to it till the end but is not as adictive as it could have been. ninja scroll is for everyone who likes to play fighting games liek street fighter and enjoys some cool guy slicing monsters through a movie. add a story with historical settings and ninja scroll is finished.

| This is not to be confused with other softer samurai anime like Kyo, Kenshin or Champloo.
Ninja Scoll can be bloody at times and sexually charged in others. There is beheadings, limbs flying, sex and rape.
With that said, this anime is awesome!
Well drawn, with smooth movements, no herky jerky or still shots. Voice acting is great. Characters are unique and interesting. Story is straight forward with a couple of minor twists. There is also a minor love interest and some intense seems of violence that is not to the level of being disgusting.
Time and money will not be wasted on this title.

| Movies such as Ninja Scroll will either turn one away from anime because of its senseless violence and incongruous sex or forever cement one to the anime world because of its so-called “mature” disposition. Because I’m well aware that it takes more than the occasional flying head and bare tit to make an anime “mature” and because the violence is more cheesy than gory, I found myself neither disgusted nor impressed by this mediocre film. On the contrary, I was quite amused by the over-the-top violence, the trash talking by the protagonist, and the poor attempt to make this film more substantial than it actually is.

| This anime was impressive in some points, especially the action scenes where tons of blood are spilt, heads cut in half horizontally and vertically and there are some sex scenes too (though mild compared to the blood scenes).
The animation was nice for the most part, the sound fx and music also very well done. The problem rises with the plot. No backgrounf info at all as to who the final villain is and what sort of feud he has with the protagonist. The 8 main villains appear very shallow and are impressive only in the action sequences.
If you look for a visual feast of blood, gore and sword fights this anime surely deserves it. For the rest it suffers. But perhaps thats the price an action anime has to pay.

| Ninja Scroll is an alright little flick. The characters are alright and the storylien is the kind that calls for action and some semi-fun battles. All-and-all it is pretty well average I would say.
For an anime this is pretty much worthwhile because of its action and mostly for its action alone. The semi-love story within isn't very riveting and overall it is rather simple.
Ninja Scroll is entertaining though and I recommend it.

| I believe that most reviewers rate this anime from a biased point of view, holding it accountable for the one scene that seems to be the black spot or should I say "tragic flaw" of this work. Although I agree that it was unecessary and detracted its value drastically, it was only one of many scenes, not to mention the only questionable scene. It is easy to deprive this movie of any credit, calling it a senseless blood bath with no moralistic values, driving violence and sex to appeal to its viewers. Although this is partially true, it does not deny the fact that the animation is well drawn, and that the fight scenes hold considerable merit in their shrewd ability to portray the art of combat. While there is a signicant amount of anime movies out there that suspiciously resemble Ninja Scroll, none can better or even match its overall value. Many refer to Ninja Scroll as a classic, applauding its innovative qualities and its ability to hold its own against similar works before and after its time. Ninja Scroll will continue to shine in its own right.

| Ninja Scroll represents a style of anime I haven't really seen before, and I'm not so sure I want to see again. I am by no means a gore freak, but I didn't have a problem at all with the violence, I even thought it was cool to some degree. But the sexual aspects of the film did bother me, more or less because I don't care for such material within anime or anything. With that being said, when implemented correctly, as they were here, they are powerful story telling tools, which makes Ninja Scroll a worthwhile experience for anyone who has a greater tolerance for such material than I do, and anyone who wishes to see an important work within anime history.

| This movie is only good if you like mostly involving action and fairly light story. It had a lot of unusual characters on it, and was good to watch for at least once if you want see the tripped out animation on its part. But what I didn’t like about this was that some of the scenes can turn from alright to pretty flawed on most of the action sequences. It is one of the respectable movies out there, which I also think that has a certain value for being one of the classic anime out there that I've known to respect and be familiar with. I think it's alright overall, but I don’t know if I would watch this again though. Even this aging anime movie seems to be losing some of its flair, since I’ve been viewing a lot more of these horror/fantasy genre.

| I actually really liked Ninja Scroll, as you can see. Jubei is one of the best main characters ever. The battle scenes carried just the right amount of intensity. The main enemy was somwhat generic as main enemies go, lust for wealth and power typical. Despite this I was totally alert and intent the whole time. If you want to know more read my review.

| A movie of passion, whatever you want to call it ninja passion, samurai passion, etc.
This movie is very captivating. It doesn't really go into the history of
the characters, but at the end of the movie you feel that you know Jubei and Kagero very well. One even develops a sense of care for them as I watched them give that kiss, I even wondered if Kagero would be alive at that moment.
This anime is not a happy story. It contains lots of death, and all that really matters is Jubei. Although it doesn't really go into the origins of how things happened, that kind of stuff doesn't really matter as you get drawn into the story's fast paced movement. However, I feel that this story doesn't have enough meat to be converted into a TV series. Its more about pure emotions rather than some dramatic plot and stories based on these pure emotions make horrible long series.
Fighting action scenes are pretty simplistic. There actually isn't that much in this series since he pretty much simplistically slashes. He wins on passion alone. Effects are pretty well done, and although not very visually appealing, they get the job done.
Not a lot of time is spent on developing the villains as they seem to die very fast. They all have some super human powers or some weird attribute, but you don't really know what they are fighting for in the personal sense.
Although the animation may seem not very cute or even 'well drawn', I feel that its done to create a stronger effect of a darkness around many of the charactes. I noticed that Kagero's eyebrows were quite thick and this itself means quite a lot. Furthermore, many actions in this anime are very smbolic towards legends and customs both. Legends in the sense of the power of Gold and also the huge significance in cutting of the hair.
Sound is good, creates a good tension.

| This is a pretty good ninja movie. The animation is a little old because it was created in 1993, so the quality is not that create unless you ca rent the DVD. The sound of the anime is great. There is no annoying character voices and the music is pretty good.
The plot of the anime is fast and straight into the point. There are no unnecessary scenes that makes hte movie borring. I have to say is a pretty well develop anime, and it usues all the characters pretty well. There is no character that does not have their own personality.
This makes the movie more intersting and not borring at all. I enjoyed watching the movie, and if you like watching anime with lots of fight scenes and blood this is a pretty good anime for you to watch....

| Ninja Scroll is a classic anime action movie and with good reason. Like many movies of its type it is weak on plot and suffers from underdeveloped characters, but the animation and sound are both excellent, successfully creating a dark atmosphere and enhancing the action. Furthermore, the dub is actually watchable.
The other strengths of the film are the brilliantly done action scenes and the portrayal of the main characters. All three of the main characters not only have some depth to them, but are also interesting, likeable and have their own motives, which are explained. They are more then simply three generic 'good guys' even if they are hardly unique. On the other hand, the enemies, whilst possessing unique strengths, possess little to no character and are chronically underveloped and exceptionally uninteresting.
The story is mediocre, uninteresting and shallow. Furthermore, the 'romance' between Jubei and Kagero feels tacked on and does not really fit in with the rest of the plot. Nevertheless, it suceeds in providing a background for the action, if nothing else.
Ninja Scroll is an excellent action anime and action fans are sure to love it. Everyone else should avoid at all costs.

| Akh! What the heck? This movie is wayyy wayyyyyy overrated. I can't believe that the people who bash dbz on a constant basis publicly swoon over this movie. The only difference between this movie and dbz is that NS has tons of unnecessary violence and sex. Characters are stereotypical, storyling is seen-it and boring. The story is the hideously old 'laid back ninja goes around, and an evil villian guy and his goons are making pointless trouble again, so you can prove how you are actually a good guy inside by helping some people out. Over-used ninja babe included.' The movie somehow even completely fails and dies with such an old and used formula, that is almost pathetic to watch. My eyes were watering from the horrid-ity of this movie.
People seem to regard this as a classic, and I have no idea why. If you are looking for feudal japan-ness, watch Kurosawa's movies instead. (Though Kurosawa has samurais instead of ninjas)

Greatly done, not overexagerrated, it's not save the world theme, and the fighting scenes!!!!
Name one anime with better ones...
Characters!! All main ones were superb! Simply superb. They had their style, I could symphatize with them at once. All of them.
All in all, it is an example of great enjoyable work, with known themes, there is nothing which you won't find elsewhere in movies, but here it is altogether - a good, convincing story, great characters who change and whom you can cheer on, and support and like/dislike, but whom you watch with enjoyment as they tease each other, good dialogues (I loved the "interesting technique" dialogue between old spy and a demon :D:D)

| Not usually one for violent anime, but this is really well done. The fight choreographing, the characters' uniqueness is another strongpoint. Keeps you on the edge of your seat until the little bit disappointing ending (fighting scenes earlier in the movie more impressionable).
The art style, music/sound, characters and story blended well into an eerie, dark age, ninja fantasy action movie.

| Its been a while since I saw this one (at least 4 years).
I've never really been impressed with this anime...
All in all for the simple fact, that it leaves behind a dark trail...
Like it gives you sand in your dry mounth.
Good people die, and in the end you wonder if anything good has happened throughout the movie.
The characters personally, I don't think as being thought of.
It's just like pasting a sticker: This character is good, this one bad, and this one will be decided at frame 52:10 sec.
no in depth talk about the characters, no familiarising.
The actionscenes where good!
the sexscenes with a demon utterly absurd, and actually like a dumb child's fantasy.
Yet, I still rate this as one of the better animes, thanks to the story.

Animation is decent but no more, story is... uninteresting (really) and rather poorly told, characters had potential, but it is never exploited beyong stereotypes.
Somehow I found myself yawning towards the end, and my finger itching to press "fast-forward".
