| Now, before you dismiss this title as being an old and mediocre sci-fi movie, bear in mind that it is an adaptation of a work of the author of Vampire Hunter D, so if you liked the latter it is worth giving it a look.
I watched the german dub (for old titles I consider the dubs better than those of today) which was decent.
Initially I was enthralled by the story. A wind that makes the humans turn into infant status because of forgetting even their basic skills and memories and the world plunging to the stone-age immediately made me interested and excited to watch the whole movie.
Somewhere in the middle it becomes a little boring though and not as tense as in the first 30-40 minutes. Yet the ending is a very good one and ambiguous too.
The main characters arent that many. We have Wataru, a mysterious woman named Sophia, Wataru's mentor John and another couple they meet afterwards. Very good overall. All the other characters dont talk at all, though expect some good and emotional moments.
There is a problem with the pacing. Adding a robot hunting them in order for the movie to have some action, didnt add anything interesting. Also at some point the movie turns very slow without anything new. Yet the ending corrects these flaws and makes the movie memorable.
Animation is very good, by Studio Madhouse after all, and I have no complains for a 1990 movie that wasnt very popular. Sound isnt anything special.
What makes this movie worth seeing is the story, one of the most original anime sci-fi stories. Reading the novel is necessary to close some plot holes and see more of the characters.
If you like not so popular, yet good titles, this is for you. I wasnt dissapointed and would rewatch it

| Started off with a very interesting storyline and quest, but then it ended without giving you proper closure. Animation is on par for an average anime from its day. The sounds didn't really aspire anything either. The main character is what keeps you in this and going to the end. Watch it if you want, but don't expect too much.

| It had a very good concept, but the story moved in a very slow pace. I didn't have enough positive value from my part when I was watching it. The main character wasn't really interesting. The animation and music were less than fine, and couldn't be worth remembering. I think there was an important moral to the end of this story, that looked pretty obvious from the whole plot itself. I guess it failed to be part of my valued viewing experience.

| Not really sure why I watched this one, maybe got lured by some fancy...
It's watchable, but bland. Nothing really stands out, and there is just enough (if barely) to keep you watching. Story's end and whole plot is rather non-involving, there are nice sequences, but they seem to be there by mistake more than by design.

| This one is really nice: the story is just the way I like: full of mysteries and unaswered questions (not to much, I mean). Unfortunately the animation seems kinda old even if it's from 1990. There's not a lot of good musics, too. But I definitly enjoyed it a lot.
If you like mysterious, post-apocalyptic, science-fiction anime (who said Tenchi no tamago? :)), there's a chance you'll like this one.

| Not a bad anime. The original plot is interesting, but when you arrive at the end of the movie you'll say : "Heh? What? That's it ? It's over ?"
It's the kind of anime that you watch, then forget and move on to something else.

| It was ok in its time but is very dated now. The story premise was great, but like the poster before me said, it just didn't pan out right.
Watch it if there's nothing else to see. (Tho I do know some people who reguard this as a gem. I myself don't.)
The visuals are average - they were good for the time, but are now dated.
The sound is below average - it's just way too dated.
The story has a great premise with lots of potential, but isn't quite executed well enough. Not very many intriguing things happen, even though there is great opportunity for them to.
The characters are a bit rubbish. Not very much developent, and no real concern is created for them.
I didn't enjoy this as much as I wanted to, and as a result wouldn't seek to go watching it again.

| The animation is ok for its time, it was better than appleseed and black magic m-66 but beside Akira it is not so impressive.
The sound was kinda old, you know what I mean if I talk about the sound effect.
The 30 first minutes were very interesting, but the interest disapear after that and it become normal.
Character development is not important in this kind of movie. The universe is more important, so don't give it a bad score.
This movie is worth renting. I won't buy it because it's not a piece of art like ghost in the shell, akira, jin roh, millenium actress...

| Ok, this anime is kinda outdated when it comes to sound and animation. But this anime doesn't depend on those. The story and the intention behind it is what makes this anime interesting. This one is not recommended for fans of fast action, fanservice or comedy packed series. But if you like to think and philosophise a bit about an interesting scenario then you should take a look at it. Oh, and don't worry...it has some action ;).

| Such potential.... so much.... potential.... all thrown into the paper waste basket. Please, do yourself a favour and only admire how great this storyline sounds. Because once you see it... you'll wish you hadn't wasted your time.

| The story sounds really great. But, man, what a boring anime! The voice actor for the main character sucks big time. The animation is all crappy. And I just hate the whay americans spells japanese names. Especially the name Wataru. And on top of everything you have an unmotivated sex-scene. Please

| A decent anime, I don't remember much of it. Visually, it was quite impressive at times and it's ecological sentiment done from a post-apocalyptical standpoint keeps it from being totally boring. The central problem is that the anime is obsessed at trying to say something, anything, without ever really explaining why. That and the fact that similar themes have been done better, much better.

| This is a post-apocalyptic film with a genuinely interesting twist. It is highly creative and strongly recommended.
