| Based on 28 volumes - with a very medium-leveled desire to read any more.
It feels like something is magical and magnificent about 3x3 Eyes. It revolves around a diverse world with "Gods" and Humans and all these mystical demons and mythical beings. It has nicely detailed action scenes and a cute girl. It has a very very diverse cast of characters and some very interesting scenarios. But all of that somehow feels INSIGNIFICANT when you realize that after 28 volume that NOTHING has happened at all between the two main characters.
Yakumo and Pai... the excellent idea of one's immortal guardian and the one that is being guarded. The last few of her race of immortal Sanjiyans - she has a rich history as well as a strong integration with the background story. Yet she lives in the current world with Yakumo with the desire to become human. Sounds great so far, right? Sure... except for the fact that the first 12 volumes are full of absolutely useless repetitive scenes of "Oh, this demon race wants the immortal life of Wu" "Oh... Pai gets kidnapped" "Oh... Yakumo comes to save her. Gets a little stronger..." Done, nothing else happens. Just a cycle of this repetitive stuff. After this, things start picking up as the storyline become more focused... and for a little bit, I thought that something would develop between Pai and Yakumo. But soon, Pai would get kidnapped or she would be brainwashed again and here is Yakumo off to save the world with his immortal body.
Like I hinted before, the worst part of this manga is how there is no character chemistry at all between Pai and Yakumo. If you realize that this is not a romance manga in any sense, then this might not irk you as much - but after a long 28 volumes, I am left with a very incomplete feeling in this myth oriented action manga. The lack of any real suspense or long-term goal or deep relationship makes each page about as deep as the next.
Verdict: A really interesting background with rich character histories and demon backgrounds, but lack of any deep bond between characters makes for a tedious and uninteresting read.

| I managed to read up to volume 36 translated and just caught a glimpse of volumes 37-40 since I couldnt understand the Japanse raw volumes. Of course they're translated and available in French and German but I dont feel so compelled so as to buy them.
But nevertheless it can become very enjoyable. It takes the reader to Asian mythology. Almost all of the names and places are taken directly from mythology. Only in the later volumes (I guess after 20) it strays and little and the story gets more focused on the confrontation with Shiva and Benares. So it ends a little differently than it starts. Personally I found the first volumes more exciting. From volume 33 it becomes obvious that it has to finish somehow, yet the story is dragged 7 volumes further without anything spectacular. Though it doesnt degenerate that much but it is not that spectacular. Often the story turns into a Dragon Ball type battle but thankfully without becoming tedious, except in the later volumes.

| I kinda like it, or at least I used to at first. Rather disgusting in some parts, but this, too, is part of horror manga. The action tends to be pretty confused at times, so you need to take it slow on certain frames, but it’s not half bad. Most of the characters are pretty good, if a little stereotyped, but Pai really pisses me off sometimes. Grow a brain, for heaven’s sake, will you? And get a nicer figure while you’re at it. She’s so dumb and stubborn I almost stopped reading at several points just because she was being so irritating. For the most part, however, this is a good series for anyone who isn’t very squeamish. In particular you need the ability to endure graphic depictions of disembowelment, decapitation and dismemberment with equanimity. The fight scenes are a little too frequent for my tastes and apart from the gruesome nature, not particularly interesting to me. However the plot moves along at a fairly brisk pace, never lingering too long in one place, but at the same time exploring several areas in depth.
The other thing I regret about this is that character development is rather unconvincing, if the characters can at all be said to be developing. The eternal question: “What the hell does Yakumo see in Pai??Ewill probably not be answered for another couple of volumes yet, so feel free to formulate your own answers. The worst thing about this series is that it comes full circle right around volume 11, so that after ages and ages of thinking that the story is making progress and we’re actually getting somewhere, you find yourself right back to square one, minus the enthusiasm you had at first, plus a newfound dislike of both Pai and Sanjiyan and an urge to kick Yakumo in the pants for being so weak and not having better taste. The supporting cast is good, though, but not strong enough to make up for the flaws in the main guys.

| How can I say it... the design isn't really great at the beginning but the vol 1-5 enjoyed me and after... too much fighting and blood for me, I think there would be romance, too bad for me...
