Shinigami's Ballad was something of a dissapointment. After reading the synopsis (and becaues the main character is a death god), i expected something that really would bring out many of the different feelings associated with death, but this looks more like a romance oriented anime than a death oriented one.

2 of the stories didn't really involve death really, but of the 4 that did, there was so much wasted potential. Shinigami's ballad suffers from really boring direction. It's not just slow, most of the episodes are moodless, pointless, and generally empty. While the climax of each episode may or may not jerk a tear from you, it's very hard to sit through the bulk of the episode.

Shinigami's ballad is episodic, but unlike Jigoku Shoujo, it's not really formulaic, so for most people, there will be episodes you like, and episodes you don't. It was quite difficult for me to sit through the episodes i didn't like, but even in the ones i did, i never felt engulfed. For an anime dealing with death, there just isn't much atmosphere. If there was, it would have made up for the slow script and mostly eventless episodes.

A somewhat melancholy story about death and the possible feelings dead people have when they leave their loved ones behind. These 6 episodic episodes essentially follow the same formula from different points of view. In the end, one of the morals of the story is that life goes on, do what you can while you're alive, be honest with yourself, and don't forget yourself and your loved ones. Another moral is: when you are happy, your loved ones will be too.

Anyway, I gave up watching this after 4 episodes. I even gave many days break between each episode, but I still got bored. Really, unless you've lost someone in your own life, someone very close to you, I highly doubt this will make any impact on you. Essentially, it is some sad emotional piece to explore some aspect of human life. Definitely skippable.

A collection of laid back short stories that requires your undivided attention in order to be enjoyed.

The six stories are all about an emotional Shinigumi Momo observing and often meddling with people who had to deal with the death of someone close to them. The comtemplative mood in the stories are all pretty similar, and there seem to be a common underlying theme of living life to the fullest.

I was watching the 2nd episode whilst eating dinner, and I found that episode to be pretty boring. I quite enjoyed the next episode though which was a fun story about treasure hunting, which makes me wonder whether the 2nd episode was just crap, or it actually needed your full concentration for appreciation, and that's exactly what I gave it for the remainder of the series, and I enjoyed them too.

It's a thoughtful, relaxing series that has that kind of slice-of-life quality that lets you appreciate what's around you just that little bit more. As you can see from the marks, it's pretty well rounded, but doesn't really shine in any area. I like it, but it can be boring for a lot of people out there.

When I read the plot synopsis the title caught my interest. It is based on a series of novels that I doubt will ever be translated.

Momo and Daniel, her black cat with batwings are unlike any Shinigamis I've seen. Dont expect to see Momo kill people or spread a depressing atmosphere. Instead she does the opposite, preventing people from having the will to die and making them change their initial pessimistic beliefs.

Shinigami's Ballad is an episodic series. Personally I liked the first and the last episode. Especially the last that is one of the most touching 25 minute episodes I've seen lately.

Overall the series is slow paced but since it is only 6 episodes even viewers used to fast food anime will have a chance enjoying this title.

The two main characters are very well done and the voice actresses did a decent job. Though when it comes to talking cats I prefered that cat in Kiki's Delivery Service much more.

The music is also soothing, effectively setting the anime's calm atmosphere.
The OP and ED themes were perfect for the genre.
Animation is also sparse, with no action at all. For a character oriented anime the animation works.

Some reviewers compared SnB t to Jigoku Shoujo, though I have yet to see the series. But since it is over 26 episodes I hesitate.

Recommended if you like slow paced animes and also a different shinigami as it usually appears in anime and manga.

I'd watch episodes 1 and 6 again and the rest too.

One of the not so popular titles, but when chosen the viewer will not be dissapointed.

More reflective than plot-driven, dealing with the theme of death with individual scenarios per episode, but two central characters, Momo and her cat. This anime is boring to many people, but i find it intriguing how the legacy left by deceased loved ones can affect people. Momo is a unique character with a unique personality, and her companion Daniel provides a bit of comical relief. The scenarios are a bit predictable, but are thoroughly enjoyable nontheless. The one thing I like finding out every episode is how the person passed away, and the gift they left for their loved ones. Overall, a very enjoyable short series.

This is a mix bag of sorts, a predictable message that still manages to pull the waterworks sometimes but also manages to be so damn boring...

Firstly, Shinigami no Ballad is different.. per se, not many studios would go for animes like this, and despite this it creates that alluring 'life is good, death is bad' kind of message which is somewhat predictable. Tugging at the heartstrings with romance and drama like messages, Shinigami no Ballad sure does the job well in creating that atmosphere.

However, Shinigami no Ballad is boring, not boring as in the mini-stories in the show are uncreative or not action-packed, but this show is very reliant on repetitive imagery and messages. The first episode was fine, i approve of that, then it slowly graduated into a samey romantic/drama series with each episode being not too dis-similar from the last.

Thankfully, the show is short enough so its watchable for those who want somethign different, but then, this show wold do just as well (and better i nsome cases) if it just concentrated on one or two stories rather than 6 mini-stores.

Overall: 6/10
Grade: C

This is a show about a Death God who gets emotionally involved with the people who's sould she takes and the people around them. This displeases her companion, a talking black cat with bat wings. Each episode is a stand-alone story and the first two episodes at least are very much tear-jerkers and also very slow. There is also very little action in this show so far. If in fact there are only 6 episodes I may see it through but I'm really not into tear-jerkers, but I do think this is well done for those who like this sort of thing.
