For a short anime series I will write a short review.

REC is a story from a light story category it is a 'novel', and a short one. The main heroes are Matsumaru Fumihiko - who works at an advertisement company as a manager, his last project is "HA" a type of snacks, and second heroine is Onda Aka - a young girl, she is a voice actress. They meet up after Matsumaru has been dumped on a date. So Aka goes with him to a cinema. The story goes fast and in the end she is forced to stay at his home. Rest is a nice story.

Animation and sound are on top level. There were no minor no big mistakes in lines, corrections, colour and shadows. I'm sure you will not complain. As well as the OPEN song there is nothing to be troubled by. Seiyuu is done on top level, nicely and well timed.

Story is no great saving of the world, it is an romantic novel, nothing more. I give the highest rang for it because it is simple and that's it.

The characters are mainly an average citizens of Japan able to work, have there own feelings to one another, having there jobs as well as there own ideals and own dreams. And that's why I and mainly all of you will like them.

Value of this series is, in the least, greatly high, for a little more than an one h of your time you are given a short, good and not to ambitious saga of an romance of two people with a little bit of humour and drama as well.

Watch it and you will not regret it.

A neat and very compact love story with a little bit of a different setting, focusing on an aspiring voice actress and the guy she lives with. I like short animes and even though this may be a wee bit too short, it manages to get the story across.

Er... but why is it marked as "Ecchi"? No such thing here.

Rec is the tale of Onda Aka, (a.k.a. Red) and Matsumaru Fumihiko, two people that happen to meet and share a love for Audrey Hepburn films. Fumihiko is an advertising man that created the character Cat Tree, a cat's head stuck on a tree. Aka is a voice actress and provides the voice of this character. Cat Tree is used to sell Ha, a green leaf-shaped biscuit. (Ha is Japanese for leaf.)Together they have a set of adventures of trying to help each other and fall in love.

The episodes really seemed longer than the 15 minutes they clock in at.

Those who say this isn't really ecchi apparently haven't seen the episode where Aka and Fukihiko take a trip to the hot springs together. That has a lot of fan service in it.

OK this is one of those anime you can knock out in one day easy. There are only 9 episodes and not counting the title music, each episode is only ten minutes long. So if you do the math this is only an hour and a half. I would also like to point out this really isn't an ecchi anime; it does deal with some sexual situations but nothing too bad that I would consider ecchi. I am glad my review will knock this into the top 200 because it deserves to be there. OK on to the review.

The animation was nothing fancy at all, but it was not bad either. I really did like the character design of Aka (the main female), but I wasn't sold on Fumihiko (lead male), he was a bit boring to look at. The facial expressions really helped to bring out the drama in this series so that is a big plus in the animation. The backgrounds again were nothing special but there was nothing that stuck out to me that was bad, just a bit forgettable if you get me.

The music in this was the weakest part of this anime. I couldn't listen to the title music more than once, and I have already forgotten the rest of the music in the anime. Don't get me wrong my ears were not bleeding or anything, it again was just nothing special.

This is where my review starts to turn for the better. This was one of my favorite romance anime I have seen. OK a guy and girl meet and begin a relationship after the guy was stood up at the movies. Nothing new there, but the series dives a bit deeper and explores dealing with how relationships effect other parts of your life such as work. It also deals with other issues like how at times you feel like you are competing with your "other" on being successful. Only 9 episodes and not one episode was filler. It did what I thought was impossible in an anime, no filler and a good ending!

I think many people can really connect with the main characters in this series, if you are a bit older and have a job living on your own and such. I am married and 25 so the situations that this series is dealing with hits real close to home. If you are younger I think you still will enjoy the series just not as much as someone who has been there. I can see someone not liking this anime if you just want a sweet love story with no real issues. This romance deals with more real life situations in a fun kind of way.

There was a great deal of character development in the short time span that they had to deal with. You do truly like the two main characters and when things go wrong you are sad for them. I do wish that you would get a bit more development from Aka but with the time frame they had this was above expectations.

I would buy this anime. In fact I might go do that after I finish writing this review for it. This is a great anime to pass an hour or so and get a really great story. I doubt many people will not like this anime.

Overall an above average series which fairly achieves its goal as a boy-meets-girl love story. Clean animation, solid voice acting and a somewhat interesting storyline keeps this fun to watch over its total of 9 episodes. Oh and each episode is only 10-12 minutes so don't worry about getting bored due to long lines.

It tells the story of an underdog advertising agent meeting an upcoming seiyuu. He happens to take her under his wing in an all so lovers in one roof setting. Though this sounds all too familiar, the plot is kept interesting by their somewhat complicated relationship both at home and at work. realism is okay but not enough to make a lasting impression.

Watch this if you're into the light comedy romance series.

Short but satisfying,I want more.In general,REC brings you out of your personal life and let you enter in to a small small story between Aka and Matsumaru. With just 9 episodes(12minutes each),REC I say did a very good job covering everything in such a short time.Highly recommended.

Ahh what can i say?...I liked this anime, not because it was great and I understand why many people thought it was plain and boring...but it appealed to me mainly because even though it was so short, I enjoyed the characters which is surprising since in that little time how do you even develop a rapport with them...I dunno I just did and so I say give it a shot and you might feel the same way! It'll only take a little bit of your time...hehe
Also the humor I enjoyed...I didnt see a whole lot of mention about that, but I laughed pretty often!

Though it's 9 episodes, the actual length of REC is actually roughly that of a 4 episode OVA. As such, I wasn't really expecting all too much of the series, but it proved pleasantly surprising. While not possessing too much depth, it's a lighthearted slice-of-life romance which will appeal to just about anyone who enjoys either of those genres.

For what obviously was a low-budget production, the animation isn't half bad. Characters are decent, though I particularly liked Aka's as the voice actress fit her design quite well. As others have said, all the males are somewhat lacking in detail, but not really enough to complain about at length. A cheap production (budget wise) with decent overall animation -- as I fear being redundant, not much else to say.

The sound score actually has a surprising amount of appeal. Though I initially didn't care for the opening track, after two episodes I did a 180 and changed my mind. It has that cheerful, upbeat feel to it that reflects the overall mood of the series. Probably my favorite track of the series, as none of the background music is worthy of mention; everything seems aptly placed, however, so there aren't really any negatives. Though the Seiyuu isn't outstanding persay, I think the actors did a great job at making their characters natural, which is especially important in slice of life series.

As for the story, I've said it before -- I'm a total sucker for these particular types of series. The slice of life/romance genres have always had some strange allure, and REC certainly reaffirms this. In leiu of all its cliches and overall shallowness, I really enjoyed it. Right off the bat I took a liking to both main characters, especially Aka. The story follows their growth on a career level as well as a personal level, and I think the creators did a nice job at showing how the two different worlds mix in a realistic fashion.

More importantly, REC conveys these ideas in a brief span of time with nice character development. Though you feel like kicking Matsumaru in the face about four or fives times, his relationship stupidity moves things along. Toward the beginning he's the typical guy who only wants sex, but by the end he's become a guy who genuinely cares for Aka. Aka is also surprisingly well done, as she reacts realistically to the events that occur in the series. She definitely isn't one of those 22 IQ retarded harem girls, which is quite refreshing. The relationship between the two is also well done, though at some points a bit over dramatized. Overall, however, it's a lighthearted romance that has very little focus on ecchi-ness, so if you enjoy the romance genre as a whole this is definitely something to consider.

To conclude, REC was better than I expected. Though by no means spectacular, it's one of those series that brings a smile to your face and certainly doesn't require depth to do so. It's short and fun with very likable characters and certainly shouldn't be overlooked.

RECommended. (Sorry, I couldn't pass that one up.)

One thing I have to say before coming into this review: I really enjoy watching slice of life series; they are among my favorite genres to watch in terms of anime overall, so when I heard someone mention REC in a passive recommendation as a short series that could be finished in a day (with only 9 episodes and a half episode following epi 7), I decided to try my luck-- to think I almost didn't when I heard the criticisms surrounding it as either "boring" or "same old, same old" when it came to romance anime.

Truth be told, it is a typical romance plot with nothing new to offer to the table in terms of potent realism or displays of character emotions, yet...this series has a strength in its overall brevity and does what it's supposed to do: present a nice romantic series with adequate development considering its content and characters.

I'm rather glad I watched this: it's a sweet series with a nice ending, typical, but certainly one that a slice of life romance anime fan would appreciate. It surprised me in terms of it's overall presentation and likability. Nice animation, likable music and decent voice acting (since the series revolves around this with Aka-chan), and a pleasant story in most modes. The characters are a give and take, but when all's said and done, you find yourself liking them in the humor and overall tonality of the series. Truth be told, I think this series does a better job with progression than most lengthy series do, but it doesn't quite work itself out of its own cliches.

The story tells of a 20 year old rising voice actress (Aka) and a 26 year old employee at a candy company (Matsumaru) pushing for a successful advertising campaign. When the two happen to meet in a chance encounter at an Audrey Hepburn movie "Roman Holiday," the two never truly separate from that point on, and find their fates intertwine when Aka's apartment catches fire and she finds herself living with Matsumaru, who takes her in out of pity.

The series focuses upon Aka's and Matsumaru's overall chemistry and how they grow to love each other. It's a bit different than most anime series because you don't often see an adult romance series (i.e. where the characters are above their teenage years), nor do you see a series that portrays the life of a voice actress as distinctly as this series does. Yet, as some have mentioned before, it's a typical romance series: "Boy meets girl, boy one-night stands with girl, boy realizes true feelings for girl as their relationship grows."

I think the reason why some may not care for this series is because they expect too much from it...it's a relatively simple story with simple characters. If you've seen dozens of romance series, you're likely to say that this doesn't offer anything new to the table, and it might be a passive watch. Yet, I found this a decent series, and I found myself caring for the characters and story even in its brevity.

I was surprised at how enjoyable REC was. Usually, when you start an OVA length romance, you know not to expect much more than a shallow story with little character development. However, this anime turned out to be just a bit above average in every category, making it surprisingly fun to watch.

The two things that I thought really stood out from your average short romance anime were the story and the main female lead. For some reason, I really enjoyed the professions of the main characters, and how they interacted. Aka is an aspiring voice actress and the male lead works at an advertising agency submitting proposals. They both finally get a small break and the story equally follows their blossoming careers and relationship.

I also just really liked Aka. I think that she is one of the more attractively drawn characters that I have seen in anime, and her personality and voice made me like her even more. In REC she is outgoing, but not overly boisterous and violent like in some anime. Also, whoever did the voice acting for her deserves a gold star. While she didn't sound like she was 20 (her supposed age), she did sound really cute and likeable.

REC is well worth watching if you like normal romance animes. It certainly isn't ground breaking, but it succeeds admirably nevertheless.

Ooh yuck!

The only appealing aspect of this so called mini romance series is the fact it's mini (only 9 x 10 min episodes when you FWD the OP theme song!). I was bored so I decided to watch this and now it's finished I'm still bored *lol*

Maybe this is the reason so few romance anime have the main protagonists over the age of 17, coz to be honest with you older people are so bloody boring (although I don't remember being quite this boring when I was 20 ^__^).

This anime lacked in every department. The story just about gets away with not being paedophilic because they SAY the leading female is 20 (yeah right, my foot is she 20. Sakura from CCS looks older than Aka does @__@). Anyway, she's far too obsessed with Audrey Hepburn films and wants to be Audrey - can you imagine a Japanese dub over of My Fair Lady *lol* Everything that happens is far too "convenient", the romance is about as warming as a smouldering coal fire and what's up with the fugly lead male?!

Anyway, it's worth giving up 90 minutes of your time, but only just ^__^

I was pleasantly surprised by this anime. Don't let the fact that it's only 9 episodes long, with each episode clocking in at just under 12 minutes, deter you. This anime actually manages to do overcome some of the daunting tasks that many 26 episode seasons can't accomplish. Well, here's the breakdown.

Animation: Normally I would rate an anime done up like this alot lower. The animation itself is ok, and the frames, characters, etc... well, they are frankly all cheesy as hell. But for some odd reason it REALLY works for this anime. You also have a nice mix of 3D and 2D at times throughout it. Due to the fact that the animation sytle actually made this show better, I'm only gonna knock it down to an 8. There is a TON and I mean TON of "emotion icons", "water drops", etc... It's a corny style, but it is actually quite enjoyable to watch.

Sound: Sound is actually really great. Music is kinda J-pop, which isn't really all my thing, but I found this to be extremely entertaining. The voice actors are actually extremely good in this anime, which I was kinda surprised at. I wasn't hoping for very high caliber voice actors, but these guys simply rock. Overall sound is really great, it just isn't quite the caliber to get a 10 tho.

Story: Yea its an overused plot line. Yes its short. No its not terribly deep. Why a 9 then? Well, all the elements are there, they fill in all the gaps and loopholes, while giving you enough information to feel for and love the characters. Its not really much of a "moving" storyline, but it is very enjoyable. I enjoyed it alot, and since everything meshed so well in this anime, I'm giving it a 9. =D

Character: You obviously cant have dynamic characters in such a pop-based, short, comedy anime, right? lol. Actually the characters do have many facets, and its kindof neat how the animators did so much with so little time. Characters are both lovable and pretty memorable. I feel they are developed much more than even some popular animes. Therefore, a 9 to character.

Value/Enjoyment: First, I want to say the best subs to this series are by GG. They are the most accurate fansubs, in that they don't leave stuff out, but aren't a 100% literal translation. They feel the most fluid to watch (and as another plus they are actually soft-subs =D ). But yea, this anime was great, I'll watch it again.

Always gotta conclude! ;D Overall, I was thouroughly impressed by the level this super short series managed to achieve. By no means is it any Elfen Lied, Rurouni Kenshin Reminiscence, or Evangelion, but in its own way it manages to make a strong impact in anime. Its simple and yet has subtelties many over-rated animes lack. Great story, with great characters, and it was just a blast to watch. If you need a bright anime to cheer you up, watch REC! It's great.

Though being a very short anime, REC met my requirements for a good anime.
I was not used to animes short as this one, I was wondering if it could really be good when it's this short.
But in the end, it was long enough.
The first episode seemed a bit strange to me, a lot of things happened within those ten minutes and it ended in a rather strange way, but since it was so short I decided to watch the next episode too.
And from then, every ten minutes that passed got better and better, but then I noticed that this anime only seemed to focus around those two characters rather than their works.
Even thought it might seem certain to some after the first episode that the main characters are attracted to eachothers, it takes a whole lot longer until they actually seem to find eachother.
Suffice to say the story is about their relationship.

While the main female characters work seem to go well, the main male characters work doesn't seem to go just as well, which puts him in a rather melancholy mood and it would seem that he's annoyed over the main female characters progress. Which, of course, is not very good for their relationship.
Things doesn't go as smooth as they could have but the whole story still ends well.

It's definately worth watching in my opinion, but you wouldn't miss out anything great if you decide not too.
Other than maybe a good anime to your collection...If you have any such.

This is a real hidden gem.

I can’t believe this show was only 90 minutes. The first anime I finished in one sitting. But the 9 episodes (10 min episodes) do so much in so little time it is amazing. It really draws you in right off the bat. The story is nothing groundbreaking; it is basically about a guy (Matsumaru) who gets stood up by the girl he likes only to bump into Aka a voice actress in training. As fate has it her apartment catches fire and he decides to let her stay in his apartment. They go real far after the first seeing and one thinks how they could possibly even progress after that. But as the story progresses they fall in love. It’s a sweet and innocent story which should leave the viewer feeling happy. Why can’t longer animes leave the viewer with what they want to see? We need more animes like this one.

The story is very basic, it is very well told and it is the characters that help tell the story. They are so realistically developed one can only relate to this show in one way or another. Only the two living in the apartment are focused on so that leaves the viewer enough room to see a large portion of how each character lives his/her live and how their priorities change – this makes since it is only 90 minutes. Both characters are extremely likeable and you may find yourself relating to one of them in some way. Aka is really strange with the things she says and does, but she helps bring more originality to the show. Matsumaru is an easy going guy early on in the show and even though thoughts of sex plague his mind every now and then the viewer knows that he truly loves her deep down. The characters are real, mature and all around believable. The story of balancing work and ones relationship is a very realistic theme too and as I have already said, very well played out. Lucky the ending managed to give us a situation where the characters could balance the two. This will mostly be enjoyed for its realism and good heartedness I think.

Overall it’s a sweet story that is sure to leave you with a smile. After only 90 minutes of watching this you will probably be happier than after watching a 24 episode romance anime. It is short enough to warrant many repeated viewings and great enough for you to find something enjoyable each time you do so.

This unknown anime is like a local band that you really like, it seems like no one knows them but you like them more than the more popular groups. REC was not too popular (much like the “Ha” snack food in the series) but that doesn’t stop it from being a cosy, little anime to cheer you up a bit. It’s emotional, sexy, sometimes serious, and sometimes hilarious. Spread the word! This is a good watch

The best words to describe this anime are "cute" and "short and sweet". This anime is only 9 episodes, each of which have only about 8-9 minutes of content (minus the opening song) but despite that the anime brings forth mature themes (such as the stress of trying to balance a job and a relationship).

This anime is about a girl named Aka, whose apartment burns down and begins to live with Matsumaru, an advertising employee. Aka, a voice actress whose favorite actress is Audrey Hepburn (indeed, she utters many lines from her movies and every episode is given the title of one of Hepburn's movies such as "Breakfast at Tiffany's" or "Love in the Afternoon"). The anime deals manily with Aka and Matsumaru's relationship as they go through the ups and downs of their careers.

The content of this anime is exceedingly ordinary; but I think that very realism gives the anime some of its' charm. You won't find much in the way of plot twists or surprises, but (partly due to the short length of the anime) you won't be bored by the plot.

The two main characters are surprisingly well developed for the length of the series; it is very easy to relate to both characters and their struggles. Also, unlike series like Kimi Ga Nozomu Ein, characters do not display over-the-top reactions to every situation; they act like any reasonable adult would.

However, de to the length of the anime the side characters are given at most cursory parts in the story which only serve to drive the plot along.

The animation isn't very good; besides Aka the character designs are bland and not very detailed. The backgrounds are also similarly uninteresting and static, and it does not feel like a realistic environment (bystanders standing around like statues when the focus is on the main characters).

The soundtrack is a bit boring, and the opening song isn't too good. However, this is countered by the strength of the voice actor who played Aka. The sheer range of voices and situations faced by this voice actor required a lot of talent, and she was able to come through perfectly.

I would reccomend this to just about anyone due to the relative enjoyablity compared to the lack of time spent. This entire anime can be finished in the time it takes to watch 2-3 episodes of regular anime series, and is very enjoyable.

Probably the easiest and most well spent hour and a half of anime viewing out there.

REC, (which I assume is the abbreviation for `Recording?`) manages to do something in such a short time that most shows cannot accomplish in an entire season. I can`t stress enough how amazed I was at the end of each nine minute segment. Every one of its short episodes felt like a complete and immersive experience.

Animation:

The artwork here is extremely plain. The male characters especially, seem very cookie cutter-esque. It`s odd to see Aka and Matsumaru in the same frame together, because her character design is cute, and colorful, whereas the rest of the cast shares very similiar features. One instance of this, would be Aka`s red hair, and petite figure, drawing massive attention to her.

When one character is talking/moving every other character on screen freezes, as if they were statuettes.

Sound:

The Opening theme: Cheer Makkana Kimochi by Kanako Sakai, (also the voice actress for Aka Ondo) was one I listened to the first time through, then skipped through. I thought it was excessively cheesy, and a tad on the annoying side. The version I watched did not have an Ending theme.

Without a doubt, the star of this show, harmonizes voice with personality. Aka Ondo is a voice actress, and demonstrates a diversity in her style and ability, from the moment she appears on screen, till the last episode, she shows her ability to be dynamic.

Story:

Here is a pleasent surprise. A story that provides a totally fulfilling experience, introduces you to the plot, characters, plight, and conclusion, all within just ninety minutes. The best part of all, is that you will feel like you`ve been watching this show for about ten times the amount that you actually have. The development is something that`s hard to explain. The first episode is one of the best first episodes, I`ve ever seen.

Not only does the show provide you with a bit of education into the field of voice acting, but also enhances our own sense of morality, and gives a realistic and genuine message that "nothing is beyond reach, if you try hard enough."

There are some elements of coincidence that may tarnish the remarkable feeling of realism and humanity of the story, but for having such an asperse effect, regardless of its short length, It`s impossible to rate it any lower.

Character:

Aka Ondo is a strange girl. Anyone who would walk up to a total stranger, and personify a pair of tickets, is probably not too common. However, it takes a pretty empathetic soul to be able to voice act, doesn`t it? The moment Aka appears on screen, she is instantaneously lovable. You`ll find yourself cheering for her throughout her quest to become a professional seiyuu. She is eminently passionate about her profession, and it shows. She practices often, and quotes many lines from famous movies. Her youthful and inexperienced spirit is revealed at one point in the show when her manager quotes a line from a movie she has not yet seen, yet that movie contains her favorite actress.

Fumihiko Matsumaru isn`t a big shot. He works at a company that makes snack food. He is an incredibly easy to relate to character. It`s hard to explain without a spoiler, so I`ll just say to all you guys out there, I`m sure that while watching this show we can all sympathize with some of the trying situations he gets into. In one situation in particular, he says things, while his inner dialogue powerfully contradicts it. He is a man with good intentions, but he`s not an overly dramatic goodie-good hero. He`s not a smooth, womanizing, Don-Juan, yet he has his own unique charm.

Getting to see the evolution of these two over the short life span of this show, was a great gratification.

The supporting cast is thankfully small, and all given what seems to be a perfect amount of screen time.

Value:

It`s a shame there isn`t a way I could rate an `11`, because in this case, I most certainly would.

You absolutely will not find a better way to spend your time, as far as watching an episode-based anime. REC gives twice as much impact as your average Romantic-Drama, in litterally one-ninth the amount of time.

If you`re into this type of show, and have not yet seen it, than there is absolutely no excuse not to watch REC.

An experience that a series multiple increments larger would kill to give, in marginally less time. A compendious, yet nectareous treat.

I liked this anime very much, but not without some minor drawbacks.
The story circles around a guy who gets in agony because of his unrequited love to a girl he temporarily lives together with.
Telling only that much is rather safe since the plot is designed upon struggles within when you're getting torn inside.

Many people compare this to the KGNE and rightly so, it's a love story and rather than flickering on the surface like KGNE it instead goes into your inner self and reaches for the inner grieves of your soul, and the decisions you have to make when it's gone too far while knowing it's going to hurt both of you.

In the middle of the series it may get a little viscous and a labour to watch but it's all for the good since this show is only 9x12 minutes long, if it weren't for this i'd give the storyline a 10.
This show displays it all quite well and if you've gone through an unanswered love sometimes you'll understand this show perfectly.

I found the animations and sounds at the least compelling, adding up to an effortless experience.

REC was, in my opinion, a short and average anime drama.
None of the themes in the anime were new or original, most likely because they occur in our everyday life. I suppose that is what a drama anime should be like, however, this anime does not address those common issues in a more interesting or entertaining way.

The animation looks pretty poor for a 2006 anime. Some scenes and backgrounds look simple and rushed, while others lack animation. None of the scenes look spectacular. This anime looks mediocre at best.

I have very mixed feelings about the sounds and music in REC. Most of the music and voice acting are fine, but some repeating tunes are just plain annoying. The advertisement scenes give me an urge to commit voluntary manslaughter everytime I hear it.

Apart from the pretty ridiculous first episode (one would expect the emergency services to be of assistance in the case of a huge fire), the rest of the anime seems quite convincing. Because it is short, it does not contain plenty of fillers, and does get to the point.
The storyline itself is pretty average, with a quite predictable ending.

Because the anime is short, character development was minimal. However, the fundamentals of every character was addressed efficiently, so there does not seem to be too great a lack of understanding of the characters.

REC is pretty good for a short 9 x 12 minute long anime. It concludes quite well (probably due to the abundance of side stories), and was not disappointing to watch in my opinion. However, that's about it. Nothing really interesting happens in it, and you wouldn't be missing out on anything if you decide not to watch it.

What a great little gem for anime-watchers out there!

REC is the story about an aspiring seiyuu (voice actress) who crosses paths with a melancholy snack-making company worker. As life progresses for both these people, who decide to live together, they find fortune from circumstance and quotable dialogue from old Audrey Hepburn movies.

The atmosphere is indescribably optimistic, but maybe it's just me. The length is perfect for a compact tale like this one. Any longer, and it would've lost it's magic. Just sit back and enjoy this anime (preferably in one sitting because it's short). By the way, the opening is absolutely adorable.

This is a packed, yet lovable little series that reminds you that love is tangible if you're willing to make a reach for it.
