This OVA is composed of short add-ons to the original show. It compliments the original by providing some more information on some of the supporting characters while maintaining the integrity of the original storyline. Don't expect any continuations of what happened in the first season (that's for the 2nd season to do). In addition, the scenes are quite random and jump between time periods in the original show (noted by Harima's changing hairstyles) so the watcher may be completely lost if he/she has not yet watched the first season.

I'm not the biggest fan of School Rumble, but Studio Comet could've given us a lot more than leftover chapters from the manga to put into this OVA.

As this is only around to fill in some blanks from the TV series, don't expect much in the way of character or plot development. Except for the very last scene, there aren't any touching moments to be found. And except for a prehistoric take on the series (narrated by the mangaka of School Rumble!), there isn't anything you haven't read or seen before. The fact that Studio Comet focuses on some of the more annoying secondary characters like LaLa, Koyuosoke, and Yoshidayama, as well as the already overplayed Tenma, just makes it all the more frustrating.

So much more could've done with this OAV...if they were just going to give us cute filler, why didn't just make this a TV special?? Oh yeah, because TV Tokyo wouldn't sponsor it (they sponsored the first season, but not the second. Makes you wonder..). I would've gladly waited for this material to just be put in the second season nstead of getting it as is, with the same bare-bones animation, art, music, and adequate, though not outstanding, seiyuu that we got in the first 26 episodes. Except for a couple of funny moments with Harima, this OVA is largely forgettable and easily avoidable. Only the die-hard School Rumble fan need apply.

Even if I was EXTREMELY disappointed by the ending of School Rumble season 1, I still love Sukuran. It's so much fun, but not in a dumb way. I mean, you can still enjoy it with an empty mind, but it still has some semblence of a plot dragging it along, so you feel kind of smart...okay, if you watch Sukuran, that made sense... (BTW, I feel the need to point out that I predicted season 2 before it was announced. I'm sure lots of people did, but it still makes me feel special. >_>;; )

SO, these OVAs were great. Both pretty much followed the same pattern - focus on a minor character, random hilarity and Yakumo!! I liked the first clips the best, since I liked the minor characters the clip focused on. If I have any complaint, I wish that these were more funny!! The humor clips were SO SO funny!! Without the restrictions of TV, the humor reached new heights! I was disappointed that they chose to spend more time on dull-as-a-dishrag Yakumo. Although her clips were actually pretty good...I still am not a huge Yakumo fan. In any case, for the Sukuran fanatic, you need to see these! But don't watch these before the TV series, because these basically add stuff into the original storyline >_>;;

If you have seen the School Rumble season 1 anime, then you must see the OVA. It is in my opinion the best School Rumble episodes I have seen.

The animation looks the same as it did in season 1, but the computer generated scenes improved greatly. The added variety during the computer generated scenes made the OVA seem much more professionally made than the season 1.

The opening themes of the OVA are exactly the same as the themes in series 1, but the endings themes are absolutely brilliant in terms of animation (as the music is the same - more on this later).

The story of the OVA consists of a collection of hilarious short stories which explain a number of issues left out in season 1. Most of the short stories are extremely funny and this is the main factor which made the OVA the best School Rumble episodes I have seen so far.

The characters are the same as season 1, but there are some pretty important character developments in the OVA which is one of the main reasons to why this into a must see for season 1 viewers.

These two episodes are the funniest School Rumble episodes in my opinion, and I totally enjoyed it until the very last moment due to the genius 'change of characters' during the ending theme. If you enjoyed School Rumble season 1, then you will no doubt enjoy the OVA.

Personally, I am a bit disgusted at the description for the OVA at animenfo. It seems to give the hint that the OVA is some sort of filler fan service to season 1, which isn't the case at all. Hopefully this will be corrected soon.

This OVA is very good OVA. It is good, only that it could go into the anime, or just an extension of it.
Animation is the same as before. There are lots of 3D animation in the second episode. Same animation is good since you can just see it directly without any difference but there could be more to it. But its still quite acceptable.
Sound is very good. The same is retain, and what is good should not be fixed, and it holds true for this thing as well.
Characters are not actually weak, but since this is an extension, it relies heavily on the series for all the character background. In this, you get more classmates, and really even though there is a main character in this, its not actually a main character. Its a a collection of character. Character design will appeal to the male and female gender since all of it is designed quite well.
This will make a good addition to the present series and does not disappoint. Its funnier, and it has a solid story with a number of fanservice in this.

The OVA is not really an OVA, but a really unique way of telling the "untold" story that happened in School Rumble.

The animation is the same as the TV series, but just like other anime, I don't really care about the 3D animation part, but they still look quite good. The sound is the same as the series, even the OP and ED are exactly the same, which to me is a bit of a surprise.

The story is good only that you have watched the original series. With the exception of the prehistoric part, I would have to say it really answers a lot of what might have been missed in those episodes. Of course, more comedy slapsticks never hurts.

The characters are the same, with the exception of Yakumo, which was greatly developed in this OVA. I enjoyed this a lot because I really think Yakumo is one the more underdeveloped character in the TV series.

This is probably one OVA that you should not miss if you have already watched the original School Rumble.

For something this short (only 2 eps) this has to be the one of a kind considering how much story elements were explained and character background and development.

Animation, audio and voice acting is as excellent as before. And a rather long 3d cgi battlescene in ova2 makes you wonder how much time they put in it.

Like other ppl mentioned, this ova explains a few things that were unclear in anime.
Comedy ranks very high yet again.. That hotspring scene made me laugh so hard it hurt.

This should by all means be a part of anime. It even have same opening and ending theme (which are awesome by all means) but makes it feel kinda odd to be ova.

If you did not watch School Rumble, do NOT watch this! Go watch School rumble first and then this one!

It's kinda tough to judge something so short yet based from something that were so good.
So I guess I would go with a brief commentary, and by giving sort of .. circumstance's votes.
At the end, this is more like a 1st series completion, than a standalone OVA series.

The School Rumble OVA is for fans of the original series and showcases some unseen sidestories that occurred during the original series.

The animation is absolutely top notch. Everything was drawn near perfectly, and they even include CG animation that don't look completely ridiculous.

Music was your average School Rumble soundtrack. The seiyuus did excellently for all the characters.

There were several key storyline points, which I will not reveal here. They develop the storyline and characters considerably.

There were several hilarious scenes and it was enjoyable for me.

There are only 2 episode in this School Rumble OVA.

School Rumble 2 (second semester) won't come out until April.

Overall, School Rumble OVA lives up to its expectation. It was fun and gave some insight into some character that we didn't knwo about in School Rumble.

for example, we learned how Yakumo and Sara becomes friend and how Yakumo tends to fall asleep a lot.

There were several funny moments that make it worth watching.

like the previous reviewers said this is just a collection of in between scenes that were cut out from the TV episodes, but that doesn't mean these OAV's aren't worth watching.

they match up perfectly with the overal mood of the series so if you loved the series you'll love the OAV's, but if you've never seen the TV episodes then these OAV's will probably make little to no sense to you seeing as the viewer is expected to know why the characters are in their given location, the time each scene is supposed to happen in the series and everyones respective relationship to one another.

summary: only watch if you're a fan or have seen the TV series.

Overall the School Rumble OVA was ok. Animation were better than the the series since it is DVD but the sound and character are the same as the series. The OVA consisted of short stories that weren't included in the series but were in the manga (not sure if the bath house part was in the manga). In the end, there were some good short stories that were actually related to the series story but all in all this OVA is for fans only.

P.S. The first joke of the second episode is that he didn't call Harima Harima-san, without san it implies that they are close friends but in this case rudeness.

School Rumble OVA.. to be honest I was expecting a continuation, but instead this turned out to be nothing more then a compilation of cut parts from the first season, and I can say I understand why they got cut out in the first place since the jokes weren't that good either.

So what grades do I give it?
Well the animation is just like in the series, so it's pretty bad for an series but even worse for an OVA.

The Story doesn't go anywhere and doesn't bring anything new so no value either, as this is nothing more then the compilation of things that got cut out from the series (or so I think, otherwise I couldn't understand)... so a person that never saw the series wouldn't understand anything as the short stories of the OVA take place on different time lines of the series.

The characters are still the same, enjoyable, cute and very funny, but still not even they can redeem this OVA... So for all the school Rumble fans out there (me included) we'll wait for the secons season to come out.
