In bought GR with a little bit of doubt because I'm not much of a mecha-fan, but this show blew me away.

For me it's more about action than about mecha, the cool characters all have crazy special abilties, and GR happens to be the "skill" of Daisaku, the main character.

The show is very well directed, with amazing animation of almost theatrical quality, and soundtrack so gorgeous it out classes many bigtime hollywood movies.

The show is mosly action with the imagative character and robot designs that have a classic, astroboy-ish look to them but for some reason they feel fresh and futuristic, the whole style of the show seems retro-futuristic, even though that's kind of a contradiction.

The plot surprised me, it's not rocket science but it's suprsingly involving and is well though-out and developed, and will keep you entertained.

Surprisingly, character development is also well done, evn though there are lots of characters, they are all naturally charismatic and you will feel for them and enjoy their adventures a lot.

In the end GR is a class-act, superb in every aspect, epic and grandiose, yet fun and imaginative.

Top reccomendation, and you can get it now (and the GinRei specials) for under 20 bucks.

This anime puts an incredible spin on several of Ishinomori's classic anime and manga series and makes one hell of an epic out of them. With amazing visuals, powerful symphonic score, old-school flair and epic plotline, it is an absolute must-see.

Brilliant series. A beautiful take on a plot with smatterings of retro SF, epic fantasy and chinese mythology (Suikoden). Characters are some of the most well fleshed out in all anime and the plot is superb. A true modern classic.

I really enjoyed this series. It has some of the most creative characters I've seen in a long time. Both the good guys and the bad guys have a fair amount of depth and neat gimicks.

The animation design is a great update from the classic Giant Robo (aka Johnny Socko) series in the 60s. Everything is superbly animated with well matched sounds.

The story is the one weak point I felt. The whole thing rides too big of a climax for too long. It seems like the whole world is always blowing up and a couple of points are just repeated over and over.

With a bit of editing, this could easily be reduced to half the time and be one of the best anime ever produced.
