While other animes present a cliche way of viewing at females as sensitive, caring, feeling - oriented beings, this anime goes into completely different direction. This feature alone made "Girl's High" to stand out of the other animes. On top of that, it had some really funny/goofy moments.

Animation: I had no problems with animation as well. The characters were hand drawn (no 3-D effects), but I think that they were well drawn.

Sound: The voice acting of the characters fit their personalities quite well. Basically, I did not find any annoying/squeaking voices as I usually find in other typical/cliche female based animes.

Story: it consist of episodic events, but the story of each even is not annoying, nicely pasted and most importantly, it made me to crack a smile.

Character Design: well, I liked that unlike the ordinary series, these series showed the characters' flows (bad features) along with good features. Well, to be honest, it concentrated more upon the flaws of the characters.

Value and Enjoyment: it was an entertaining series to watch + the anime was an original. I think that it was worth watching it.

Joshi Kosei - Girl's High is the story of how two girl groups meet in high school and become friends. They face life's challenges together, and promise to find boyfriends and lose their virginity before they graduate.
This is pretty much like the characters from Azumanga Daioh getting all horny. However, unlike AD, it's not as well done. It's supposed to be funny, but like Papuwa, it's not. I laughed harder in my accounting class.

Sometimes, I read a description for a show, or seen an image or a clip, and I think "damn, that show would be right up my alley". And this would be one of them. Although I wasn't getting into a high school (because I live in Canada), I was applying to universities at the time, and I could automatically relate to what these girls were going through. That, and I am a girl, and everything in this anime was SO true. I've read some comments from guys going "ew, these girls are so gross", and off the top of my head I cannot think of anything that was shockingly disgusting from this anime. Because real girls are that messy and gross. (I read a comment about a gross "menstration scene", and I thought "huh, when did that happen?" since it was just so normal to me) This was a perfect contrast from most bishoujo anime in that (most of) the girls were not in the least bit fetish object for men to lust after (could this even be called bishoujo? It's so much outside the traditional mold of it...). They're pretty real, at least as real as TV characters can be. The story flows at a natural pace, and while there was a dramatic two-parter, all the other episodes are just laugh out loud funny.

In short, this was my must follow anime of the 2006 spring season. It's funny, real, and the characters leave enough of an impression on you to remember it for a long time.

And really, the amount of fan service seems skewed towards attracting men, but judging from the low score here, I don't think that's enough for them, since the real core is the personalities.

Surprisingly, I watched this 12 episode series to the end despite the fact that it has absoutely no storyline. This is one of those series where familiarity and fondness for the characters gives enough motivation (for me) to watch it. I found this series to be overall quite entertaining and humorous, with a variety of funny/odd situations and a lively cast of characters, Joshi Kosei is entertaining even if not revolutionary.

In the beginning, I was kind of hesitant to watch this. Immediately, they included different types of 'fan service'. Furthermore, each episode begins with some sort of fantasy dress up - "here's what we look like if we were some sort of wild cat". However, JoshiKosei sends mixed messages... it is full of various female themes that only girls would be able to sympathize with. For example, the girls are not very refined and they act really according to how they feel - they want to get a boyfriend yet they don't really care too much about looks in an all girl's school Yet the presentation has some sort of appeal to the male side to it. For example, all the skirt cutting, oddly perverted situations that would have been so had there been a guy in the class, and all this other stuff that would entertain a guy... is put into this.

So overall, JoshiKosei is a mixed bag. I really liked the characters in the sense that they created a nice atmosphere together - although the 'main' character's personality, Eriko, is not very defined. The story is really weak as there is no linear progression, but I found it to be an interesting rendition of the first year's of these girl's lives in high school. Most definitely not for everyone, but I was looking for something where I didn't have to continue watching in order to enjoy some fun (but I ended up watching this in two sittings). Fun jokes, nice characters, interesting 'girl talk' - that's what Joshi Kosei is all about.

I have not read the manga, but I can say the anime is crap. Its just a cliche ecchi anime with nothing in it. Those who are accustomed to it get bored pretty easily and it shows in this.

Ok, everything on this anime looks very generic, title name. Check. Theme of anime. Check. Characters. Check. In fact, this is a show designed for one thing to showcase a rooster of standard characters in a standard theme with typical settings and predictable outcomes.

HOWEVER, High School Girls still has a bit (abeit very low) of hope, the humour is crude and tasteless and thats its USP. The humour like talking about bikini lines, lesbian love, pubes, sex etc.. covered in this series and though somewhat shocking for a theme like this, its strangely somewhat appealing for me. Its crude but i like it, its tasteless but its harmless fun. Its not high profile stuff but at least it carries the show forward with fair few laughs throughout, despite the first episode being very crude, its somewhat dies down and panty showings are far less common (thank god)

However, plainly obvious by the aura of genericness it holds, High School Girls fails in many respects, generic cast of characters, no story, comedy is only for a designed taste and it doesn't excel in animation or OSt (though the OP and ED are great, especially the ED). The bad overweighs the good in this respect but this show's crude nature is its charm (if that made any sense to you at all)

Overall, slightly fun, despite it being very very plain.

6.5/10

Girl's High is a 12 episode long school life comedy which doesn't bring anything new into the genre.

The animation has more of a pre-21st century feel to it. Some characters lack detail, as do most of the background throughout the anime. Some scenes lack animation, and there are occasions when the lips seem out of synch with the voice.
Nevertheless, the anime is still pretty fun to watch, and the problems involving the animation only cause minor annoyances at times.

The theme songs are bearable, which cannot really be said about the poorly drawn and animated scenes which are shown with the songs. There also seems to be a lack of background music, but the tunes that are available manage to get the jobs done most of the time.

The first few episodes of High School Girls are extremely (too much) ecchi, but the series eventually turns into a quality school life comedy. Although most of the humour is generated by ecchi, the storyline in each episode is set out well and is entertaining to watch, despite not being overly convincing.

The characters are pleasant to watch, but most suffer from a lack of development due to the short number of episodes. Still, the characters do a good job of keeping the anime entertaining.

Twelve episodes do seem a bit short, and the anime is probably only worth rewatching for the ecchi in it.
Girl's High is just another ecchi filled school life comedy with nothing new added to it, making it fun, but not a must, to watch. Comedy lover who don't mind ecchi would probably enjoy Girl's High, although I can't say for anyone else.

This is a light-hearted comedy about the everyday lives of a group of high school girls.

The creators made a huge mistake in deciding to add gratuitous ecchi elements to this series. I think they thought they could appeal to the male teen audience, but they only succeeded in turning off viewers. This really should have been a shoujo comedy...girls would enjoy this series quite a lot, if they ignored the stupid pantyshots and gave the series a real chance.

With subject matter like shaving, bathing suits, the period, high school relationships, teenage girl jealousy, makeup and a more realistic portrayal of physical relationships, it was quite refreshing to watch. The typical school life shoujo comedy portrays the girls as if they are 10 years old (Azumanga Daioh), which always made me wonder about the maturity level and innocence of high school girls in Japan.

While at first glance, this series seems like total ecchi fluff and a waste of time, if given a chance, I think anyone would enjoy it.

Manga to Anime Transition 101: When turning a manga into an anime, DO NOT UP THE FANSERVICE IN THE PROCESS.

The original manga of Girls High was a funny satire on the life of three girls, and three friends they make, at an all-girls school. Yes, it sometimes crossed the line of good taste, but never to an extreme.

In the first episode of the anime alone, you have no less than 6 or 7 butt / panty shots (and PUBIC HAIR). In the second episode, it's physical examination day, and all the girls are in aprons...and nothing else (you can easily see the breasts from their sides, and, at one point in the episode, one of the girls going to the bathroom, with a VERY NOTICEABLE view of her crotch). It's plain creepy, and unless you mastrubate to this kind of thing, more than a little of a turn-off.

If you make it through these introduction episodes, it gets better, but only because the series starts stealing from other series' scripts such as Super GALS! The comedy bits aren't all that funny (one of the running gags is about one of the girl's giant chest, another is about goofy Tomo-clone Kouda dressing in outladnish costumes, and yet another is about Ayano's distrubing fantasies, which are more creepy than funny), and any attempts at drama fail because the cast is just too gang goofy for the most part to be seen in that kind of light.

The characters themselves are alright. None are particularly annoying, and though we do have pedo bait in the form of Ogawa, she is absent from anything that involves fanservice, a big relief to me.

Production values are alright, but not outstanding. The music is pedestrian by nature, and though the OP theme is fine, the ED theme is not, with some really ugly character designs to boot.

Girls High is too confused as to whether it wants to be cheesecake, a high school comedy, or a high school comedy with dramatic bits to be all that recommendable. It's wasted potential, really, and there's few things in the realm of anime more disappointing than that.

Another spring 2006 anime that I picked up. I tend to pair this with Air Gear for some reason... nonetheless even though I had about the same first impressions on both these shows, I just had to keep watching them.

This show explores the life of high school girls in an all-girls school (that includes middle school, thus distincting the original "insiders" vs the "outsiders" who transferred because of their high marks). WRITTEN BY A WOMAN, this show explores the depth of an all-girls school - periods, shaving the genital area, male teachers (who get frequently rejected - very true) and boyfriends. This keeps the show fresh and entertaining, while at the same time allowing the male population to know that GIRLS ARE AS DISGUSTING AS BOYS (oh gawd after I watched the first few episodes I was sick to my guts.......).

This is pretty much slapstick humor at it's mediocrisy that's actually more character driven than story driven. Characters are crazy in their own way, and they drive the point straight home. Unfortunately, sometimes they don't because of the situations, or because they overuse the running gags in the series, or even the fact that the animation is kinda crappy and the script is awkward. Don't let the first and second episode turn you off with it's fanservice - they drop as the series progresses and the comedy increases. There are a couple of lame episodes here and there, but for the most part they're good.

And the OP is lame: the music is lame, and there are only two portions to the OP - showing the girls (not cute, 80 seconds of boringness) and them surfing the air at the last second. The EP has them all dancing, which, compared to Suzumiya Haruhi's EP dance sequence, just phails in comparison.

This is only 12 episodes. It will keep you laughing, but it really isn't worth your time (I, even after finishing it with good impressions, wish I did not). It's one of those shows you watch for fun then forget about.
