Visit the microcosm that is Ouran High School and if you by accident enter Music Room #3, prepare yourself for the unexpected. Ouran Host Club was a pleasant surprise compared to what most would expect. Comedy, tragedy and plenty of costumes, it's the Ouran Host Club.

Ouran Host Club takes every Japanese girl's stereotypical fantasies about high school boys and shuffles it into a fantastic comedy. Episodic and silly, this series will have you on the floor laughing, even at a second go. The nuances of character interaction provide for even more light-hearted humor.

Ouran HS Host Club is a very light anime series that carries with it a moderately sizable following, but what these fan-girls or fan-persons see in this series is beyond me or perhaps it's because of the things they don't see that they ought to be looking at. To me this show is about wealth and opulence and perhaps even a few key, deeper meanings such as superficiality vs the inner self and one's true wealth—but that's probably me stretching it so I can find something redeemable about this show. Either way this series seriously lacked a strong enough plot to support all 26 episodes and could really have been hacked down to a shorter well-balanced 13 ep. series. My only guess as to why this series was 26 episodes was probably to provide as much eye-candy to the viewing pleasure of a shoujo audience.

Ouran High School Host Club truly surprised me when I first came into it, as it doesn't tell or feature a typical "rags to riches" heroine or even a "damsel in distress". Matter of fact, the primary character, Haruhi, is a quick-witted tomboy who enters Ouran Academy and becomes the obligatory member of the elite host club (by a rather freak, but amusing accident): whose purpose is to entertain and dazzle the female student body of Ouran. Yet, for Haruhi's tomboyish nature, she's mistaken as a boy, and must maintain her disguise to remain a member of the host club. It's truly the adventures of the Host Club and coming to know its members that compose the heart of this series, and create an amusing, hearty atmosphere.

Now, I'll state for the record that I didn't fall in love with Ouran right away, it kept me amused but didn't really connect with me until after 6 or 7 episodes. It takes its time setting up the story and characters and while some might note particular, familiar shoujo humor elements in the first part of the series (shounen-ai inuuendo and bishounen covered in a sea backdrop of roses are just a few to note), it gives way to develop the wonderful cast of characters and show their interactions among each other in ways that actually take the typical shoujo stereotypes and turn them into overt as well as tongue in cheek humor. The characters, more so than the actual story itself, provide ample opportunities for the viewer to connect and truly love the random situations in which the club members find themselves. Even more interesting are a few of the side stories that choose to develop these characters (a good example is uncovering the icy, impenetreble shell of the twins Kaoru and Hikaru. On the surface, they seem to follow each others sentences and provide ample moments of bishie guy x guy relations, but are actually more different than meets the eye). Granted, none of its deep, and to be honest, looking for a set story in Ouran is next to impossible, but the ride the episodes take you on is worth the price of admission, as the strong cast of characters provide ample humorous moments among their interactions. An example of a character I really enjoyed in this series was the over the top head of the Ouran Host Club, Tamaki, a fair haired, swaggering charmer whom relates with Haruhi the moment he meets her, and often finds himself the butt of many jokes on the part of his actions and also earns the humor on the part of his crazy schemes and reactions. Granted, all of the members of the host club are subject and noted to have their cliched elements (Honey-sempai for example as the shota-loli and giving a "moe moe" factor, while Kaoru and Hikaru provide the so-called forbidden twin guy x guy lovers), but the series knows well that the characters fall within these stereotypes, and makes it a point to make fun of these aspects in an engaging and point blank manner. For me, it was an honest portrayal and went beyond the reuse element that are often found in shoujo series. It was a fun ride, and I couldn't help but enjoy it.

Animation is decently done, actually notably better than the manga adaptation-I liked the design of the characters and found them appropriate in the scheme of the series, as was the cel settings of this well to do, school based series.

I actually really enjoyed the music for Ouran, from the sweet J-pop opening of "Sakura Kiss" by Chieko Kawabe, to the lively rockish ED theme and sweet insert instrumentals, most were spot on for the setting and comedic elements of the series overall.

I wouldn't say Ouran is a perfect series that doesn't tend to have its repetitive elements; its best moments are more in the scheme of its situational humor and character interactional focus and less in its progressive build-up to a greater scheme in its story, but it's a heck of a lot of fun to see, and I would certainly recommend it to enjoy if you're looking for a good laugh without expecting too much the scheme of progressive events. Though some audiences may be quick to label this as a reverse harem and juxtapose it to shoujo series that tend to trip on their own elements, the key is that this series takes those elements and turns them on their head, to truly bring out the charm and entertaining characters it showcases.

This anime is good, but a bit weird. The ending does leave a good impression, but overall its not as great as it is. It has a lot of fillers for this anime. Like almost all the episodes are fillers with a small portion of the story in it. Tee anime manages to do 2 things correct and superbly well. Target an audience who likes MOE like characters, and just focusing on the characters as the main sell point of this anime. Having transvestism in the anime works, as the girl character can have a male outlook and almost vice versa.

Ouran High School Host Club is probably the most funniest anime I've ever seen. I recommend it Highly to anyone who hears of it. a MUST WATCH, so to speak. OHSHC will keep you laughing for hours on end with its beautiful artwork and hilarious characters combined to create loveable and euphoric adventures with its characters. I like this anime because of its original and entirely unique humor that no anime that I've seen can compare to. Once again, a MUST Watch, It's friggin' hilarious for god sakes! When told to imagine someone perfectly, one character goes and imagines a mannequin to be his crush, causing him to kiss it, and to be walked in on the very person he was imagining it to be! One hilarious quote: "You two can be the homo characters!". Just watch the anime, I guarantee that you'll enjoy it to the very end.

Ouran High School Host Club succeeds when other self-parodying anime have failed; that is, it is a genuinely witty and satirical work of art. The show understands that merely defining the archetypes and clichés of the shoujo genre (and then using them) is not enough; instead, the show slyly winks one eye and pokes the audience in the ribs: the characters are much more distinctive than their respective stereotypes will have you believe. This lends Ouran a certain brilliance that is only marred by its lack of a cohesive storyline. With characters that are extremely hard to dislike and a crafty sense of humor, Ouran High School Host Club transcends its archaic boundaries. Very recommended.

Okay, just to clear things up, the main character you see in the above picture with the bouquet of roses is indeed a girl. I'm sorry if I just spoiled something for you by saying that; but for me, I had to know that fact before watching the series because if it was a story about a bunch of guys and flowers, I would not, in the least bit, be interested.

The main idea of Ohran Koko Host Club (better known to me as Ouran High School Host Club) is fairly simpe. So simple that I'm surprised no one has found a somewhat successful way of carrying it out until now. I think the main intention of this series was to charm its audience, and it did just that for me. I have to tell you though, Ouran High School Host Club is not the icky-sticky romance type of anime, despite what you might get from instant first impression. This series is, however, very type-cast. With the characters being the very classical "wild," "loli-shota," "little devil," and "cool" types, as quoted in episode one. You will see later that these characters are very well depicted.

The main female heroine of this series is more calm and real, a surprise considering the fact that it's an anime based on six guys and one girl. Haruhi (the main heroine) is a "poor" person attending a school meant for the rich and successful, an embarrassing little fact that will be brought every so often...Whether you notice it or not, this anime will start to steer to points where our characters' self-conflicts become more clear and are realized in a more realistic way.

I'll have to say that I like the cutesy simplicity of this one. It did bring out my more girly laughs and giggles every now and again. I'm not sure how a male audience would react to this anime, but I'm pretty sure that the majority of girls will appreciate it.

Quite possibly the most genuinely funny anime I've watched in years, Ouran High School Host Club is an absolute delight. Mainly driven by character interactions, this anime has the perfect mixture of spontaneity, randomness, and well timed gags to keep us laughing till the second to last episode. Character chemistry especially is exquite here. My personal favorite combos are Tamaki - Kouya, and Tamaki - Haruhi. Only other character combo that can live up to these I think is Sawachika and Harima in School Rumble. Host Club doesn't not have a consantly progressing storyline, but that's not a true hindrence to the anime at all.

The animation is good. It is clean and bright just as all bright comedy should. Shojo style isn't necessarily the most original, but it is well done. The Male slender bodies are not as drastically exaggerated like in ParaKiss, so it might prove more easy on the viewers who like more realistic body figures. The anime almost never take place outside of the school, and really don't give itself a chance to display some grand animation. It is work well done, but nothing spectacular.

I'm quite fond of the music. The quirky OP is a nice intro, but the best part is the ED, which I like very much. The background musics are good as well as the very well timed sound effects. The best thing is the balance. This anime never forces the mood with music. It lets the characters take over and just helps with music.

You can seriously watch this anime over and over again and laugh again and again. This anime is sehr lustig (very funny). I think if you are a fan of comedy this is just a must see. It will make you laugh and at the end it won't let you down.

I havent laughed so hard in another other romantic comedy anime! The story of a poor girl going to a fabulously rich school and the extremely dynamic characters adding different types of humor will definitely brighten up your day and make you want to fall in love! Its like being in love in elementary school! The comments and dramatizations are over the top hilarious and make you want to watch it over and over again!

This was unexpectedly a VERY good anime, every episode had me laughing out loud, which is very rare as usually 'comedy' animes which are meant to be funny arent actually funny!! At first, i was reluctant to watch this because of the description, a girl joining a 'host club' just sounded bizarre and I was sure that it wouldnt be a very good anime. However, it turned out to be well worth my time! There are many different characters in this series that add mountains of humour. Theres the 'prince' Tamaki who at first glance is just an idiot, good looking prince yet as his character develops theres more than meets the eye to this charming man. Theres uber kawaii 'Honey-senpai' who is as stated just uber kawaii lol and unexpectedly just the best martial artist in the whole of japan... The Hitaachi twins add a very humorous element with their constantly cheeky moments. And then theres the heroine, Haruhi. Whilst the story of a commoner going to a prestigious school is not new, the concept was implemented excellently in this anime. Haruhi, a strong willed and determined 'serious' student getting roped into 'hosting' was hilarious. Although the fact that people cant tell that Haruhi's a girl is weird when the Host club figured it out (bar Tamaki) quite early on! :S

Overall, this is a must watch and i would definitely re-watch this!!

Ohran Koko Host Club is one of the animes I finished recently. And it was wonderful. Although it has some similarities to Fruits Basket, the story was still unique in a way.

I think the only negative opinion I can think of was that the ending was so abrupt. I expected a little more than that. I hope it has a sequel because there are lots of fans expecting it!

Everything about this anime is light-hearted and just bundles of fun! From its funny captions to the (sometimes overused) anime style cuteness*.

*I'm not exactly sure what the terminology is, but it consists of cutely drawn mini-characters and extremely round facial expressions often involving teardrops, tiny shifty eyes or the angry cross sign. This also involves the happy flowers that pop out of Honey's head whenver he makes an appearance.

Animation was simple but sufficient. However, to design and draw the various costumes and settings, while ensuring the wealthy atmosphere at all times, this task was done well. The Prince has never failed once to look like the ideal host he is.

The sound was gorgeously fitted with everything. I loved the sound effects and how classical music was also incorporated via through piano or just those special romantic moments (however 'hosty' they may be). I especially liked the beginning of the ED song.

Not much of an overall story, but the each of the individual episodes was entertaining at its best. As I think the anime focused on character development, I'd have to say WOW, very nicely done in that catoregory. I love pretty boys, and ones with such distinctive personalities and interesting pasts... <3 And the best part was how Haruhi didn't have any shared traits with the usual big-boobed, shy but clumsy dimwitted slut but a personality all of her own.

10 for originality. This anime proves that a high school setting, no matter how many times overused, can still be tweaked in new, creative ways. Highly highly recommended.

Ouran High School Host Club is a 26 episode long anime comedy with not just a surprisingly interesting and funny storyline overall, but also in every individual episode.

The animation, although very amusing in some scenes, is quite standard. Some backgrounds are very static and some supporting characters look unintentionally similar. Then again, the visuals in Ouran High School Host Club is only there to support the amazing storyline, just like in many other Studio Bones productions.

The theme songs and music in Ouran High School Host Club also pales in comparison to the excellent storyline, but they do not negatively impact the anime in any way. The only complaint regarding the audio in this anime would be the voicing of the main character, which doesn't really fit the character in my opinion.

Most of the character development is done in the later episodes, as the earlier episodes are used to get the viewer hooked to the anime. That said, the development wasn't really necessary, as the storyline and setting are so funny, random and weird that the show would still be interesting regardless of character development. However, this does definitely not impact the anime negatively, and only made the ending even more spectacular to watch.

Ouran High School Host Club has an excessively exaggerated storyline. Every episode is exaggerated to an extent that it becomes hilarious and unpredictable. Apart from the obvious humour, there are also numerous hidden jokes and puns throughout, some of which are harder to discover first time than others. One thing that surprised me was the ending of this anime. Unlike many anime comedies I have reviewed previously, Ouran High Host Club has an ending that concludes the storyline; leaves open the possibility for a sequel; was exciting in addition to being funny; and shows the viewer a more sophisticated side for the main characters.
The combination of brilliantly hilarious episodes which lead to such a finely executed ending definitely makes the storyline of Ouran High School Host Club its most prestigious attribute.

Ouran High School Host Club is worth rewatching for many reasons. Apart from being extremely entertaining, there will most likely be many hidden jokes and puns that one will need at least one rewatch to realise. I thoroughly enjoyed this anime, and will strongly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good comedy or is after an anime with a good storyline.

The basic story is a girl is wandering around one day looking for a quiet place to study in a highly exagerated Elite-rich-people highschool. She goes pokeing around, and eventually discovers the host club's room and via a rather obvious turn of events ends up breaking a really expensive vase that supposedly was worth a bunch of money...

she got into this school for the elite through a scholarship because she wasnt rich and therefore couldnt afford to pay for the vase she broke and thus was forced to cross dress as a man and hit on girls for money untill the vase was payed off...

Circumstances aside, this made for a very interesting anime.

ANIMATION: Pink!!! pink? pink,pink,pink....PINK! did you figure it out yet? anyway it was pretty good imo if not the best I'd seen. its just that a few of the silly scenes were really annoying to watch because of the animation... for me at least

SOUND: It was pretty good and fit the story perfectly but the sound track sounded awfuly familiar... so i downgraded the rateing maby cause it was nothing new

STORY: Well the story was one of the major selling points in this show for me because you want to find out what will hapen to our cute cross-dressing heroine. there were some filler-ish episodes that didnt contribute a thing to the show so im not giving a 10 here

CHARACTER: I thing that the characters were the best part of the show becuase they all were pretty unique and interesting in their own way (imo) although they did fit into so basic stereotypes. my favorite characters were the twins tho, just because they are funny and a new experience for me.

VALUE: Well it took me two days to watch this one and Id watch it again probably a few more times

ENJOYMENT: The only thing I didnt enjoy about this show was the bananna peel gag, i mean wtf i know theres always just a few monkeys hanging around eating banannas and throwing the peels everywhere at my house but for this to happen in a show? wtf... anyway just perepare yourself for lots of bananna peel gags after about the 5th episode

This anime is one of those colorful, no voilence or blood anime. It is full of comedy and romance though. As the story goes on you can see a relationship growing between the Ohran Koko Host members, and their new member, Haruhi. One of the things I don't really like I guess is the lack of action. Though it is fun to see which of the Ohran Koko Host members will win Haruhi's heart. This is a pretty simple anime, episodes of the members bonding, trying to keep Haruhi's secret of being a girl(she has to dress like a boy to pay off a debt), and then they add some villian and trouble at the end, which they solve, and end the anime. I still enjoyed the anime, even though it had no action or violence. I used to think any anime that lacks action or violence is not worth watching but Ohran Koko Host Club proved me wrong!

I had very high expectations of this series because it was created by BONES. BONES is a company that so far has an excellent record for the anime they created. While they've only released less than 15 series, more than a third of them are on the top 200 and EVERY single one of the series they have created has a rating of 8.0+; most of them rank in the 90s. While Ouran Host Club, is a good series I am whole-heartedly surprised at how bad both the animation and music were. I understand Ouran is a comedy, but that's really no excuse. Since the other aspects of the series are good, I'll mainly address these two issues.

A friend of mine happened to recommend this anime to me. As it was kind of my fist experience with a shoujo anime, I was a little…doubtful. See, I was more of a shounen person…you know...blood, swords, ninjas, naked women somehow always ending up in compromising positions with the nose bleeding male who definitely had no bad intentions whatsoever but always gets punched up fifty foot into the air nonetheless and miraculously lands back to earth unscratched…you know the kind. So yes, I was a bit skeptical about the prospects of me enjoying this very rosy, (seriously, roses pop out just about anywhere) very sparkly, random banana peel slippin’ (monkeys and bananas popped out just as randomly as the roses) shoujo anime.

Boy, was I wrong. For one thing, it was a refreshing change from the typical D-sized chest, whiny, annoying, air headed female characters that unexplainably fall in love with the oblivious main character. Finally, we have a leading female who actually has half a brain for once. Hoozah!

Animation:
Animation is smooth and beautiful; and brightly coloured to match the lightheartedness of this anime. Character design is very nicely done. All the bishies look as hot as they’re supposed to =P and Haruhi looks very cute too and matches her personality well...though sometimes her eyes look weird for some reason…

Sound:
Ah, I simply adore Sakura Kiss by Chieko Kawabe XD and it matches the anime as well…cute, upbeat, light and catchy. The BGM blended and matched the mood of different moments beautifully. Voice actors had done a fantastic job; each voice fitted the personality of each character very well. I especially liked the voice actors of the twins…how they could sound so similar and different at the same time. It took me a while to differentiate their voices but eventually I got it. Kauru’s voice is more soprano-ish than his brother, Hikaru. It was fun to guess which twin was talking and which twin wasn’t.

Story:
Now, I gave it such a low score because of one thing: there IS no story. Well, there is some vague plot but nothing very captivating and complicated. Some may complain about the lack of storyline and about each episode being a pointless, different story about the host club and their antics but it personally didn’t bother me much. This anime focuses mostly on character development and each episode is an episode where you learn something interesting about the cast of characters. The episodes are mostly humorous and lighthearted but don’t mistake it as shallowness. No, this anime can also be very deep and meaningful while keeping its light hearted undertone. This is one this I’d like to commend the producers for.

Characters:
One of the best aspects of this anime. This anime has an interesting and unique and lovable cast of characters that won’t fail to charm and amuse you. We have the twins, possibly the most complex characters in the anime, the calculating and manipulative Shadow King, Kyoya, Haruhi, our beloved outspoken and intelligent heroine, the adorable Honey-sempai, the silent Mori-sempai with his taciturn charms, and the one who holds them all together as one big family, the lovable and ridiculous Host Club King, Suoh Tamaki. It’s kind of touching how much of a family the Host Club had become to this group of eccentric misfits.

Value:
Go waste your money to buy this anime. It’s worth it. Or just download it…it’ll be worth all the electricity you waste on it.

Enjoyment:
I really, really enjoyed this anime. It’s touching and meaningful yet lighthearted and funny. I had laughed and cried watching this anime. Its lightheartedness itself was a refreshing change from all the broody, dark themes most animes these days fashion. If you watch this anime expecting a dark, complicated, complex plot with plenty of dramatic twists and turns, you’re going to be sorely disappointed. On the other hand, if you’re a sentimental fool that enjoys a simple, funny and touching plot with it’s bishies galore, this is the right anime for you girls…and for some guys too…the friend who recommended this was a guy….;P

Ouran Private Academy is defined by one, prestigious families, and two, wealth. And prosperous people have much time on their hands. Therefore, this Ouran Host Club is about these handsome guys that have time giving hospitality to these lovely ladies who also have time and profit off of them. It's an elegant game unique to this super-rich school.

At the first sight I was fascinated by this show's idea, I mean, not only it is original, but it's quite promising as well. I doubt you've seen a girl dressing as a male and participating in an all-male club in an anime before. Furthermore the club's existance is based on pleasing the women customers, so evading bizarre themes is nearly impossible. Unfortunately, not only the show didn't live up to my expectations, but it fell apart and lost the last bits of its originality soon after the very first episodes. This show is full of grotesque fillers, actually, it's so full of them that the non-filler episodes vaguely comprise a one-fourth of the show. What's sad is that characters are neither interesting nor developed enough to keep your interest by themselves. Even though I agree that most of them are pretty original, they cease to be interesting after the very beginning. Simply, you learn everything about them in the first episode, other episodes nor make you learn more about them, nor develop them, they just confirm the same thing you've already learned at the start of the show. Maybe, the twins are an exception, unfortunately, their pasts, even though interesting, hold no notable significance to the plot of the show.

It's not a bad show, actually, even though disappointing, it's still above most of the average comedies or reverse harem shows out there. If you are up for a pleasant laugh and original, never seen type of story before, then check this out, just don't expect too much, as the show becomes pretty average soon enough.
