| (watched Hentai Legacy ADV DVD rip, sadly the ending songs were missing, except in the last episode, but it was watchable nevertheless)
I first heard of Nuku Nuku when I was reading the 3x3 Eyes manga, when the mangaka Yuzo Takada drew some references to Nuku Nuku manga. So later I read the short manga and found it funny, though very short.
And now by watching this OVA and re-reading the manga again I have to say that it turned out one of the most enjoyable OVAs I had the opportunity to watch. With the exception of ep.4 (I couldnt like the other android). In terms of enjoyment I liked in order ep. 5, ep 2, ep 1, ep3 and ep 6.
Some small changes were made in the anime. In the manga Ryunosuke was the heir to the Mishima conglomerate and was a boy genious, graduating at the age of 9(!) from university and he had also many university professors as tutors. In the anime though he behaves like a normal kid.
In combination with the disbanding of his father's lab he decides to escape with him from that intolerable lifestyle and lead a normal life. When he's accomplished his role he made a promise to return to his mother. Unfortunately the bond between mother and child doesnt work well in the anime and except comedy the characters are flat for everything else. But since Nuku Nuku and the two Mishima henchwomen are so funny they're forgiven.
His father developed an android but the problem was that only a brain the size of a cat could fit into his head. Or else the android should be 4 meters tall or have a huge head. So this lead to implanting a cat's brain to the android, that would take 6 months to fully develop.
The OVA focuses on this phase, the immaturity of Nuku. Because in the last manga chapter she's matured and became serious and has nothing to do with the anime character.
But making an OVA with a serious Nuku would be extremely boring. Instead the viewer gets one of the funniest roles of Megumi Hayashibara, perhaps outdoing her later role as Lina Inverse. Especially ep. 5 was of the funniest I've seen. Her naivite combined with her feline abilities and her superhuman strength are one of the most funniest combinations I saw.
If you like girls with guns and some fanservice, reminding of Gunsmith Cats and also hilarious moments, drawn and animated very well, considering this was made in the early 90's, then this anime is for you. This is a must rent if you find it on DVD. The first OP was also nice (though only for 2 episodes), typical Megumi rock/pop combination.

| The worst thing about my reviews, and i admit it, that my marks are always enjoyment-based, that means, if i enjoyed watching this or that series, my rankings on it will be relatively high, and it might seem pretty logic, but from now on i decided to make it fair though. (That's the end of useless bla-bla-bla, as nobody cares about it)

| It's fairly decent for a classical anime. The only things that seems to be the strong point was the comedy value and its music. I was really fond with the main and ending title theme song. And the main character, who was very humorous and always seemed to give that energetic feel to the story. The storyline however was kind of short and light, even for a comedy/sci-fi one, while could've added more drama to the series. A great replay value if you have already seen this in the past. An almost above average anime series that would mostly be seen as a good OVA classic at its time.

| The first nuku nuku that came out. I like the idea of this series, cat turn to robotgirl. Nuku Nuku is cute but sometime go overboard. The thing that really annoying is the evil Mishima crap. The whole evil screams things was so outrage. Their outfits kinda suck also for evil's ppl.
There only a comedy here in this series, but unlike TV version, these OVA keep the balance and try not to be stupid comedy like TV. Too bad there no romace here in OVA, BUT nuku nuku sometime get these sentitive feeling which robot shouldn't have. It show that she is not just the ordinary robot. But if you want to watch cute nuku nuku with romance then you have to watch Dash version.

| This is a total classic and anyone who says otherwise just has no heart. The blend of comedy and character is wonderful, and the absurdity is a unique brand of pleasant. The show knows what it wants to do and does it well. The beauty of it is in the characters attitudes and relationships, something that later efforts to spin off this short series all failed do realize. It's fun fun FUN to watch, will always be something you can come back and watch again for kicks, and is a steal at it's U.S. DVD price. The only thing hurting this series is that there wasn't more of it!

| With a rather promising premise of a good comedy where an android is given a cat brain one would think this to be hilarious. Unfortunately there are scarcly any laughoutloud moments and remains mediocre at best. The only episode that actually made me laugh was episode 5.
The characters arent really developed well and even Nuku Nuku is too "flippy" (I cant think of another word to describe her) for my liking. The plot doesnt go anywhere and there is no sense of closure. For an OVA of this lenghth that isnt good. Instead we are treated with standalone episodes with misadventures involving Nuku Nuku and her creator's wild family.
Not too bad, but doesnt live up to its potential.

| Cat Girl Nuku Nuku is pretty much everything that's right with 90's anime. Simple but well planned plots, short OVAs, and tons of fan service. Nuku Nuku is funny, entertaining, and cute as heck.
Nuku Nuku is an absolute joy. She's one of the few anime characters I can think of that laughed as hard as I did. She has a harshness to her voice that is very unique to a Japanese speaker. Almost bursting with excitement, she blurts out phrases with genuine enthusiasm. It's actually very cute.
As if that wasn't enough, her outfits are just jaw dropping. Think of each episode like a cosplay experiment. We get everything from a skin tight swimsuit to a waitress, all with wonderfully tongue-in-cheek camera angles and fan service. It's obvious, but blended well with the show and serves only to enhance it's charm.
I especially loved how down right respectful the guys were toward Nuku Nuku, going so far as to pound some sense into anyone overly rude to her and form a impromptu fanclub. I can't think of many, if any, other animes where I've seen this... even though it's really not that uncommon, if perhaps a little old fashioned.
Kyusaku is hilarious as well. His average-joe antics are downright hilarious, mainly because they strike so close to home. Seeing him and a buddy do a "land rover attack" and high five afterward, or him turn to the camera and say "Yay!" with a peace sign at just the right moment had me rolling with laughter.
I even loved Cat Girl Nuku Nuku's music. An unexpected mix of techno beats, reminding me somewhat of a very high quality MIDI. Like a techno remix a fan might do of an old theme. My favorite example of this is during the underwater battle.
In the end, Nuku Nuku is an absolute classic. It's somewhat simple, but it shows everything that's right with OVAs. Short, off the wall stories can indeed be well developed, and animes do in fact have perfectly blended ratios of fan service and action. All guys are not jerks, women are jerks too, and human nature is hilarious. There's a surprising depth to such a simple anime.

| Damn catgirl! So cute! Can't write anything but praise. This is a really fun series and Nuku Nuku is just so lovable. There's a lot of action too, so you don't get bored at any stage. Opening and songs are also great. Watch and enjoy.
---
Well that was one the first reviews I wrote here in 2003. I just bought the Nuku Nuku dvd and rewatched the series. And as one of the characters say in the fifth episode: "Most men must have a thing for big-bosomed bimbos". Nuku Nuku is really the soul of the series being cute and cat-like and all. Six episodes of her adventures go very quickly. The good part of the series is that is exactly the right length. I didn't have time to get bored of the rather straight plots. Explosions and cat-cuteness is enough to entertain me for that time.
As said the characters are fun. Gotta love those maniac assistants of Ryonosuke's mom. Akiko herself is also interesting with her strange ways of showing her love for her son. I liked how, despite being silly to the bone, the series could extract some meaningful family drama, especially in episode 3. Ryonosuke and his dad are pretty bland but it was like I had time to observe them when there was so much action around them.
The stories are simple and solved in one episode. But they include a lot of action and humor and I never missed more meaningful stories. Animation doesn't look old one bit. Characters look fun and the action is very fluid. The series has good opening and ending songs and regular unnoticeable background music. Nuku Nuku is good entertainment for hot summer days when you feel your brain melting away.

| A pleasant watch, I recommend it if for some reason you enjoy watching 80s anime. Its all about the humor of a kitty cat being stuck in a pretty female cyborg body. You'll never be able to call it a great anime, but you'd be hard pressed to find somebody who didn't enjoy this anime. Its one of the better examples of 90s OAVs out there. Uh, just don't expect anything deep, okay?
