| Overall, this anime is great, but what it suffers from is little breathing room. With a story as deep as the grand canyon and characters developed enough to support an intricate plot, it saddens me to no end that it is wrapped up in 13 episodes, hinting at the possibility of a second season which has not come. At some points, it feels a bit rushed since they are so few episodes left as the story develops.
It is solid, mature anime with gratuitious blood and naked boobs, but these superficialities do not get in the way of an anime as engrossing. As short as it is, the characters are well developed and easy to sympathize.
In the end, solid story and character, nice bloody fight scenes, but a plotline as involving as this needs to be fleshed in a lot more than just 13 episodes, and the ending suffers for this as well. This best thing would be a season two, but who knows if it will come.

| I first watched Tokko when it aired for the first time on the Sci-Fi channel. It was a random watch in which I did not hear all that much about the series before coming into it. The dub is...not that interesting, but I later watched the original Japanese version and felt it a bit better in terms of the voicing of the characters.
In short, TOKKO is a supernatural action/sci-fi series that depicts the work/day to day perspective of Ranmaru Shindou, the latest member of a special division of the police dealing with mutants that have been responsible for the murder/take over of several officers and a particular event in an apartment complex where many people were killed--and those few that survived have a special type of blood that attracts the demons. It's directed by the same person who did Blue Gender, and actually written by the same person who wrote GTO...which was something I found out after the fact. XD
The interesting thing about this series is that it actually starts off with a bang-the first half of the series is interesting-definitely up until episode 6 or 7. The rest of the series varies in quality until actually reaching the end where it actually just pushes things together for a cop-out ending...quite disappointing. If you don't find it all that interesting after the first few episodes or so, suffice to say it's not going to grab you in the long haul.
I don't exactly agree in that this is a boring series at all in progression, because it actually has a decent plot, but it doesn't really offer extraordinary value in the genres it qualifies-action certainly, and it lacks a certain mode of originality. It's actually more interesting when the research behind the bugs comes to surface and Ranmaru's actually unraveling all of these things about himself and the incident that happened in the apartment in which he grew up.
Ranmaru is a decent lead-I rather liked him (and his Japanese VA-who's played a lot of different roles), and at the very start of the series, his pursuit of the truth behind the death of his parents and his identity is well worth the exploration. It is a quite violent trek, bloody-but no different than what you see in supernatural series such as Bleach maybe slightly more since you see actual officers being dismembered and bloody scenes following the massacres. The only other interesting character is Sakura, a girl from Ranmaru's past and interesting for her mysterious nature-which progressively unwinds. Takeru is interesting but you never really get to know him as well as Sakura and Ranmaru-whom are the only characters you see grow and change throughout the whole series. Saya provides some comic relief as Ranmaru's sister, and Suzuka is...pretty much a character just for show save for a few instances where I felt sorry for her due to past events.
Animation wise, quite inconsistent as it progresses. Decent when it starts, but the quality is variable, but I did like the overall character designs, cel production too when it was at its best. I didn't see any incidences where cels were reused, so that was at least a plus.
Music...mmm...I'm probably going to get hit over the head for saying this but I didn't really care "too much" for either the OP or ED themes. The OP I'll admit is catchy though and carries a tune (I didn't really dislike it, but it's not really something I'd say is memorable.), but I think the biggest deterrent for it was that it didn't really feel like it fit the series all that well, and I guess some could argue it has considerable Engrish, but that didn't really deter me. In series themes: forgettable at best. The one thing that does redeem the series in sound is the voice acting in the Japanese perspective-which is pretty good, The English VA work didn't really stand out to me as much save for the main VA work by the lead characters (Ranmaru/Sakura).
Overall, I'd say Tokko's worth watching once, maybe twice (though touchy depending on your preferences for series), but not much after that. I didn't dislike the series, but it did feel quite shortchanged and could have carried itself much further in terms of potential.

| How can I explain myself fast enough for you to get the clear view of this... irony. Well for a 2006 series the art and sound are ok, but the whole rest is pure garbage.
You like mature violence without any plots, this series is for you... and I blame you. View this at your own risk, boredom guaranteed.
You will be in for a bunch of events implying bad sword fights and useless guns. In one part of the show, the captain (the only good character) is getting an illegal gun named a M249 (heavy army machine gun used in helicopters) for getting rid of some zombies. As said, the m249, who would in reality blow an entire body with 3 bullets, is firing pistol bullets. Right after that the sexy bitch is killing all of them with 2 daggers in a single strike... let me laugh...
Also, for no real reason, the sexy bitch don't wear a bra and shes opening her leather coat because it's probably too hot outside... how can I resume that... soft porn?
I also really like the wet dream part... oh please, I'm sick of it...
Seriously, it's one of the most boring thing I ever saw. I watched all of them at my own risk, now I want my wasted time back.

| Overall, I wouldn't suggest it as a work of art worthy of praise, but it is entertaining, and not bad.

| Oh yeah. TOKKO isn't the worst anime that I've seen and that's good enough for me. The blood in this anime isn't that much. There are a few dismantled bodies but still, there's a good amount of anime that does even more gruesome.
You guys do know that TOKKO actually exists right? Of course the organization in real life does more realistic business. TOKKO stands for Tokubetsu Koto Keisatsuwhich means Special Higher Police established in 1901. They're basically the secret police of Japan. I thought it was worth knowing.
Basically, TOKKO is alright. If you have time on your hands, go ahead. Watch it. If not, don't go out of your way. Have fun with it!

| When I first came across TOKKO I really had no idea what to expect. So I read a chapter of the manga and I got pretty hooked. When the first few episodes aired it brought the story to life.
The story is basically an 'end of the world' type but it's not quite what you would expect of the typical genre. It revolves around a special and powerful box, the Box of Dirge. The Box of Dirge is the key to open a gate between our world and the next. Only, what comes out of the gate is not very favourable. Now, this box can open or close the gate but alas, it has been broken! OH NOS! The box has broken into 108 pieces and each piece lies inside of a phantom, a demon which lives only to eat humans.
Get the gist of it yet? Since the show hasn't finished yet, there isn't much to be said for now, except that it is a show with much potential and I look forward to submitting a fresh review once it is completed.

| **NOTE* I have only watched episodes 1-6 thus far. I will update when I see more, when they are ever released.*
Wow... This one is awefully bloody folks. So far its really good...I mean...REALLY good.
Ive always liked violent anime...dunno why, but still, releases like Elfen Lied, Ghost in the Shell (movie), and Gantz, always on my top list. From what Ive seen of Tokko so far, its among the tops on my list.
The animations were pretty good, I personally saw them to be a little simple...but oh well, cant win them all right?
Sound was great. Good soundtrack and all around pretty durn good.
Story is very involving, hard to pull away from. Although Ive seen less than half of the series (Refer to headnote).
Character was good, I cant really find myself attached to anyone yet, but its still early in the series :p (Refer to headnote)
Value I cannot really rate too well as of yet (Refer to headnote).
Enjoyment...wow, So far I love this anime, I check for new episodes like, 4 times a day :p Must...see...MORE!!! Give it a try eh? Whatcha got to lose? 30 minutes?
