Before I watched Scryed I always assumed it would be something like Wolfs Rain and GunGrave; a heavily character driven drama with some mystery added in the mix. I wouldn't say I was wrong but there is a lot less drama and a lot more action shounen. Scryed does the same things that the above mentioned excel in, which are character development, drama, and story, but where it eventually collapses is the fact that it aimed for a shounen approach and just failing as a shounen.

Like most shounens we have a power system of some sort that allows people to battle each other in supernatural ways. Here a select special of individuals are gifted with the ability of "alter" which allows them to take any surrounding materials, the most common rocks, and reform them to a weapon of their desire. In Kazuma's case he creates a mechanical arm that supercharges his punches which allows him to destroy buildings. Kazuma lives a carefree life in the ghettos of an isolated island, but one day a man named Ryuho appeared before him who was an alter user too and defeated Kazuma in a battle. No one has ever defeated Kazuma before. Kazuma wasn't going to let up so soon and the two are fated as rivals, though little did they know they are part of an ongoing plot from the government that will forever scar the land that Kazuma calls home.

The story is pretty good when read in a summary, the problem is execution. Scryed touches upon a lot of things, develops each of them for a while, and couldn't find the time to go deep into any of them. Animes most of the time tend to be too long, Scryed is just too short. The story like said before is interesting and looked like it was going somewhere, but by the animes end most of the questions remained unanswered. There is this new dimension that was mentioned late into the anime that they refer to as "the other side" as well as a character named "The Crystal", but both these things are still mostly a mystery even after the anime ends.

It seemed that the anime wanted to concentrate mostly on the rivalry between Ryuho and Kazuma instead of the story, though even the rivalry was hardly touched upon. Scryed placed a lot of emphasis on these two absolutely hating each other, kind of let it settle for most of the series, and by the last episode decided to make it the whole point of the show. The pieces just don't really add up. Even worse is that there isn't a threatening antagonist to compensate for the lack of a convincing conflict. Main antagonists are supposed to be feared and threatening, Mujo was pathetic and uninspiring.

The characters in sense are also what's bringing Scryed down. Well the characters themselves are great, one of the more likable shounen casts out there, the problem actually lies in the action. Alter is a pretty intriguing system sort of similar to alchemy in Fullmetal Alchemist; reforming material objects to mold it into a shape you desire. With such an interesting system with so much potential for some strategic and smart fights, it is hardly touched upon. Also, there are like only ten alter users that are introduced whom their alters are nothing out of the extraordinary. Most of them are the same powers that you've seen in other shounens. You can't help but feel there was so much more potential with alter instead of just generic concepts used in the past. What makes it worse is that the action itself is pretty lacking. Well, except for the last episode, that final battle was pretty sweet.

Scryed just combined way too many things and never placed a heavy emphasis on any of them. Its story was starting to get interesting, it remains a mystery. The rivalry between Ryuho and Kazuma looked like the next Goku and Vegeta bout, it was super under developed. The alter system looked like it was going to be one of the more interesting shounen power systems cooking up some really cool battles, it is hardly touched upon. Scryed does all of these things well but doesn't delve into any of them enough making it feel pretty shallow. Though not to say that it is not a recommended watch at all; it does a lot of things great, you wish it would have been longer though.

Among the many super power animes I have watched, Scryed stands out as one of the better ones. What really drives this series is the story more than anything. The characters react more than they initiate. They are driven by the circumstances around them to do everything that can to rectify their surroundings as they see fit.

Unlike the reviewer below, I thought the characters were very good. Kazuma is shallow, but he is likable in many ways. Watching through his pains and loss should give all viewers a chance to sympathize with him. Ryuhou also is a deep character. Although he hates violence and chaos, influenced by his childhood trauma, he also inflicts violence on others in order to suppress other from casing chaos. He develops plenty throughout the anime as well. On top of that the seiyuu's are absolutely brilliant overall. All of them really know how to carry the pain in their voice.

The plot never rests and the story bull dozes on. When it begins to take off it just keeps on picking up momentum till the end of episode 24. The last two episodes however, should've been shortened into one episode. Overall, they could have cut two episodes by eliminating some energy charging, screaming, and etc to make this anime 24 episode anime. That's, however, a minor complaint.

The choreography for the fight is rather good. It is elaborate. They don't have any re-cells either like naruto, or bleach. The animation, however, could have used a little bit more vibrancy in color. Also the outlining on the characters and other objects in this anime is bit too thick, which makes things look a bit unnatural.

Overall, this anime is an excellent action anime. Certainly not the first on I would recommend, but definitely worth watching. pick up scryed. I don't think you will regret it.

I have opposite feelings about this series.

Animation is spectacular. The colors, the shapes, the movements, everything is almost perfect in my opinion. Among the best anime I've seen on this aspect.

The sound is just regular. Special effects are OK, but the music is very boring, and the OP theme is so latin, but it doesn't fit in this action and Sci-Fi series.

The story was good enough. At the beggining, it was about a mercenary and rebel man, against HOLY (an organization that was supposed to capture alters)and captain Ryuhou. After some events, many things change and the spectator can see things in their real dimension. All I can say is that things aren't what they appear to be.

Character are by far the worst part of the series. Kazuma is really a very simple guy, with nothing clear in his mind(except for Kaname), he just does what he wants to, without thinking. Ryuhou, we never know why did he hate alters to much to hunt them. Although he changes his character during the series, and gets very different, I don't like his way of being and thinking. Too simple, too. Mimori and Sherrice are totally secondary. Cougar is a funny character, but not to follow for much time. I think that Kaname is by far the best character. She is a very armonic girl, and althogh she is so little, she is so valiant to defend anyone, even if she is punished for that. Absolutely charming, and very beautiful, too. I can understand why even Kazuma was so concerned about her. Finally, the last villain is so stupid, and I won't say anything else to not spoil you the series, but the guy himself almost made me put a 7 on the story and a 4 on the characters.

The value for the show, although not very enjoyable on great part of the series, is good, specially for those who love great animation and good action scenes.

I personally thought when I first watched this on "Adult Swim" that the opening song was SO horrible, I couldn't watch the anime..... but I always ended up watching it anyway. I have to say, I know I thought the opening song was horrible, but now it is my favorite opening of all the animes I own, and after seeing most of it on TV, I just needed to buy the limited edition box set of this anime, it really is that good. If you like action, a great fantasy story and lots of character development, I strongly recommend!

Scryed is a fine example of that anime doesn't necessary have to be intelligent to be good. While the show still follows few moral ideas, especially about freedom and rivality, in heart it's an action anime, where the main goal is to see two people kicking each other's asses. Even though, the show's story is decent enough, characters are good enough and dialogue is written well enough to make even me, a snob who ignores everything what is of lower intelligence, cheer for Scryed from most of my heart.

If you like action, then you can't go wrong with Scryed, it's one of the best action shows out there. While even though you are not that much into action you should give this show a chance if you suddenly feel an urge to see someone kicking somebody's ass in coolest ways possible. Oh, and if you've liked Infinite Ryvius, you might want to watch this show as well, since the director is the same, those shows hold some similiarities, in a sense of direction of course, not the plot.

Shounen at it`s most shounen.

Visuals:
The visuals are very colourful, with bright and vibrant characters, backgrounds, and effects. There is a decent amount of detail in the artwork, and the world presented seems thought out enough.

The fluidity of the animation is about average - I`ve seen better, but this is by no means bad. My major gripe with the visuals lie in the overall presentation, which lacks intelligence and style. Every action scene is a wishwash of chaos without making it feel truly spectacular like it would imply. It all feels uncomplicated and unsophisticated, and I suppose, easier for the younger viewer to comprehend. But the action is set on such a large scale that you`d expect it to be more significant than it actually is.

Sound:
The sound is above average. A lot of the musical score will be a matter of taste to most people; for me I thought it was alright, but I wasn`t particularly fond of it. The opening and closing themes I thought were sub-par. There are ample sound effects to accompany the consistent chaos onscreen, and they do their job well. The voice acting overall is about mediocre, being balanced out by some good voices and some terrible ones (Mimori is aweful).

Story & Characters:
The story, even though it had a cliched idea, still had a decent enough premise to make a good anime. It just didn`t happen however.

The story consists of a a somewhat post-apocalyptic area known as the Lost Ground outside of a major city, where a handful of people have developed unique mutant powers known as Alters. The people of the major city want to keep the Alter Users at bay, and hence employ a group of Alter Users known as HOLY to keep order amongst the people of the Lost Ground. The decision makers of HOLY however, end up becoming a bit too righteous for their own good, and instead of keeping order, soon begin to opress the people living in the Lost Ground, and forcing their Alter Users to join HOLY or be imprisoned. One man fights back...

I was suprisingly captivated by Scryed for longer than I thought I would be. I found it interesting to see how the hero Kazuma developed with the prospect of him going up against such a large and powerful opposing force. Like all good shounen, his character begins the anime with a spark of hidden strength, and evolves into a more powerful character as the story progresses. However, his abilities consisted of an amalgamation of righteousness and pure strength, which became boring very quickly. There was no real thought process involved in any action he took, only that it was based on instinct and passsion. Many of the battles were also of this nature.

A second lead, Ryuho, is introduced as the counterpart of Kazuma, but for the first part of the anmie is battling on the opposing side. He is almost a polar opposite to Kazuma, consisting of intelligence and preparation to go with his power, but lacking passion. These two characters became hard to like because of their lacking qualities. Power aside, no one had the essential qualities to make them really likable. Blended into one character, they would have been more fun to watch. Two sides characters, Straight Cougar and Kimishima I found to be more lovable, and it was a shame that they weren`t onscreen more. I also grew more fond of another side character called Tachibana as the series progressed. My point being that the two leads are where my attention SHOULD have been at, but wasn`t.

A lot of the females have been portayed as sensible but weak characters, going in heavy contrast with with male cast. Almost every female character in Scryed is annoying. Non more so than Mimori, who feels as though she`s in the way of every scene. Kanami had an odd placement in the anime, being a bit too young for the rest of the crowd but still suggesting a romantic link with Kazuma. Sheris, for most of the anime, I thought was pointless being onscreen so often as she was. It was only when the anime ending, that she had any reason to her existence. But I felt that it was too little too late.

The groups portrayed as villians early in the anime did an adequate job, but were humanised rather than being clear-cut bad. The real villians of the anime didn`t really show up till the end third of the series, where they had no good aspects and were easy to dispise. I found the overall antagonist to be more on the maniacal side rather than frightening, which for me took some of the wind out of his sails, making him seem more of an annoyance for the protagonists rather than a real threat, even though he pushed them to their limit.

The character development in the series is so gradual that it can almost be regarded as subjective. The two leads are still basically the same at the end of the series, except they fight on the same side and have a more powerful Alter. The bonds between all the main cast are also still in pretty much the same state of feeling as at the start, except for the acknowledgement that time and events have passed. Overall, it doesn`t give a great feeling of progression.

Value & Enjoyment:
I don`t think I would watch this series again. I have been much more impressed by other shounen that I would rather watch. I suppose for me, this series only seems to cater for the LCD - it doesn`t require much thought, but as a result it doesn`t impress or deilver the excitement it should. There are no revelations that spark a genuine interest, and even the action sequences are repetitive and grow tired very quick.

A potentially fantastic storyline ruined by numerous flaws including animation and script.

After the first few episodes, this was looking more and more promising, but trouble was looming on the horizon. I questioned how they were going to keep a tight and interesting storyline with 26 episodes. Alternatively, what I’m tying to say is that this could have been shrunk down to a 13 episode series without a sweat.

I script and story started to get sloppy and broken after a while. The momentum never picked up from there onwards. Unlike Berserk, which, although had an obvious pause in the series, it never really veered from the main path, Scryed did. It tried to include too many elements into the story, HOLY, HOLD, native alters, The Mainland. Really, you just needed 2 opposing forces.

The other thing that let the side down was animation, for a 2001 anime, the animation could almost be graded “poor”. The characters were designed and drawn crudely, their transformations were so far from that of animes such as Saint Seiya, which came out in the 80s. Definitely a step back. CG were used in Scryed, although I wish it wasn’t, because to be honest, they just added to the bad.

The script was, at times, quite childish and simple, which was the source of another of my frustration. The fact is that it could have been clever and blunt like the script of Now and then, here and there. Conflicts between the weak and poor against the strong and rich. Those stories which make you see things in a different light, see life in a different light. It was all set up, but it didn’t materalise.

In the end, I believe that the action actually killed this anime. The fact is, the fights never got very interesting themselves, rather the possible fights the 2 main characters could have had provided the excitement and for me personally, the motivation to keep watching. They didn’t materalise either.

This could have been a gem, I mentioned 3 classic animes in this review and scryed could have been all 3 of them embodied into one. If executed successfully, it would have surely been an anime to benchmark from. Instead, it turned into a mish-mash of everything that wasn’t anything.

scryed is one of the most originol and one of the best shounen anime that i have seen.s cry ed had good characters mainly kazuma ryumho and tachibana , had excellent fighting scenes and very detailed animmation.

animation-the animation was very detailed from each lock of hair to the indiidual appearences of the characters . the animation was nice on all the different alter powers from the eternity eight to ryumhos alter.

sound-the sound for this series rox so hard reckless fire was such a great oppening for such a action packed series.the sound effects were also nice from the many explosions and them taking up matter to use there alters you can hear it all.the seiyu cast was nicely done especially kanamis voice it sounded s innocent .

story- the story wasnt all that origibal but for a shounen series it was.s cry ed reminds me of mai hime plotwise . in s cry ed the charcters are able to control a somewhat mechanical creature or a certaion type of ability and they fight.also there is a nice plot to the story then just fighting but how kazuma and mimori deal with holy and the seperations of the land.

characters-this had a nice cast full of very strong and powerful characters. the first and favorite charcter was tachibana who i believed developed a great amount from the begining to end.kazuma was a great character who believed in what he believed and wouldnt let anybody in the way that is a good character.

enjoyment - awesome series nice animation cool characters and awesome fight scenes definetly a good watch for actioin fans.

Kazuma has the special (Alter) ability to pretty much smash anything into oblivion with his suped up right arm, and since he seems only capable of fighting you can imagine a lot of smashing ensues. Scryed is a fun sometimes dramatic, often times light hearted action anime that will appeal to fans of the "Somewhat over the top but non-stop super power action" category.

S-Cry-Ed was a mixed bag. While it has a very good story to back it up, it just does'nt pick up as it should have. Add to it a number of loose threads which remain unresolved and a sub-par animation, S-Cry-Ed left me with mixed feelings.

*** Please note that I watched this series from a very shitty fansub: Anime-Co, Anime Shadow etc.The following review takes this into account. *** The animation is way below your average anime. The faces are average, and the clothes are just there. No detailing is done in both areas. Almost all charcaters have their faces taken from a template design - long, round, square. Unlike Gonzo which goes into heavy detail in the animation, this has Low-Budget on it from beginning to end. The backgrounds are threadbare, and in some cases reminded me as if S-cry-Ed was taking place on Namek (DBZ). I cannot understand how some reviewers have given this a 10.

The sound is also nothing that great. The OP and ED are quite nice, but nothing special. OK for viewing once/twice but the rest of time I forwarded them. The BGM is nothing great. The sound are takes the prize due the works of the seiyuu of the two lead characters. They did their job really well, adding a lot of 'feel' into the series. However, this has to be the LOUDEST series since Naruto. I mean that the characters scream 80% of the time. Especially the two leads - Ryohu and Kazuma. The will give Naruto a run for his money when loudness is concerned. The other seiyuu were average, and were kept repeating the dialogue; Mimori going "Ryohu!" everytime he appears in fron of her, and the other girl has dreams which will give Sleeping Beauty an inferiority complex.

The story of S-cry-Ed was good. Infact good enough to make me sit through screaming contests between the leads and sub-par animation. It starts of like Witch Hunter Robin (or should it be the otherway around considering WHR was a year late than Scryed?), and organization HOLY (STN-J) is hunting Alters (witches). Only in this case, the leads are shared by both an Alter and HOLY member. By 10th episode I was felling let down by the same storyline as WHR, however then it goes at a tangnetial direction and the fun began. The series boasts of VERY VERY GOOD ACTION, and nice twists to keep anyone engrossed TILL epsiode 24. Then the series goes into fuckeverything mode, and the result is that of a very weak ending. The main story finishes at 24th episode but Bandai obviously thought 26 and only 26 was the way to go - welcome stupidity, loose threads and a very bad ending.

The characters are once again a mixed bag. While the 2 leads were awesome - Ryohu and Kazuma ignited the screen and kept the excitement flowing, the others were a big pile of dog-crap. Fortunately the lead were on the screen for over 3/4ths of the time. You have a Sleeping Beauty which is on a dream marathon throughout the series, a girl who goes the Aoshi way "Ryohu! Ryohu! Ryohu!" - Gimme a break, this is action not a harem-comedy. And two of the villains - Pinch crisis and HAMMER!!! now share the first prize for the most irritating characters in my anime collection. The anime suffers from defects in these areas especially in conclusion of the characters - Eg. Cougar is finished in a way that had me going WTF? Many of the characters were not given their due, which lowered the series in my eyes Eg. Alter Boss.

This series was a mixed bag. It has quite a lot of bad points but the story and the lead characters more than make up for it. The only thing left to say is that this series could have been WAY better than it actually is. If the side characters like Alter Boss were given their due share and the loose threads properly tied up, this would have been an instant classic in the likes of TRIGUN, Rahxephenon. Perhaps that is why I'm picking on it so, considering this could have been much MUCH better than it actually is.
A word of advice: pick up on a good fansub (A4e, Baka-anime) and do not watch the last 2 episodes - They do not contribute to the story by a micron and will leave you exhausted rather than exhilirated. This is highly recommended to fans of action genre - a good series with an awesome story to boot.

S-cry-ed proved to be an enjoyable watch, and completely took me by surprise in terms of its quality of story and character development. The character/setting design didn't catch my eye initially, but looking past initial pretenses and while not up to par with some contemporary series, it proves nice on its own. Music and voice acting is rather well done, and for a 26-episode series, it's of remarkably high caliber. Some may be a bit turned off by the open-ended conclusion, but considering this is an action oriented anime, it's not unfounded or unsuitable in my eyes.

A solid recommendation from me to those who love action oriented series, far better than some of the other action anime out there to date.

A typical action anime: a group of young teenagers who have super powers that can save their society. Not original, but nevertheless, exciting. A combo of DBZ, X-Men, Gundam (or FMP, whichever you prefer) tech, Tokyo Underground, etc. There were boring parts, but when it came to excitement, it never fails to leave you on the edge of your seat.

Animation: I am not too fond of the art but neither was I disappointed. It has repeating drones, saving the artists a lot of time of redrawing some of the characters, but each of the main characters is unique. Some of the characters resemble closely to Gundam Seed, at least to my eyes they did. The action part was amazing, but does not surprise me.

Sound: Although I do like the opening and ending music, after watching the anime, I only have this faint screaming ringing in my ears. That is because I can only remember a lot of yelling, screaming, explosions, and nothing much. A lot of names are called a bit too much times that it gets old. Sound-effets are, again, mediocre.

Story: The story itself is great. Typical and unoriginal, but worthwhile to watch. A group of teenagers against this big organization, top secret. Love stories, hate, friendship, grief: all woven into one anime. I must say, though, there were parts that are not brought out too well, parts that are deemed pretty important but are not dragged out. At the same time, the unimportant parts (ie the screaming, yelling, flying in the air, spinning, eye contacts) remind me uncannily of DBZ. Nevertheless, the plot is strong and can keep the audience on the edge of their seats. It is an action-packed anime, but it is not senseless like DBZ (excuse me, DBZ fans). It has a story, a plot, characters, and feelings behind it all. Some of the parts are predictable (actually many are), but it sometimes is nice to see your predictions unroll. What makes this anime leave a sour taste in my senses was the ending, and how horribly and pointlessly it ended. Sure, the good guys win (as they always will in anime such as this), but the last episode almost left me drooling, eyes glazed, over the screen. I believe in anime with good endings, and this definitely disappointed me. However, I am simply disappointed; it is not despicable and does not leave the audience hanging, but I thought it could have done a lot better job with its potential.

Character: All the characters are strong; there are no wimpy, washy people, and that's what I like. All of them have passion and desires; all of them know what they want to do. Even the bad guys who are "bad," I can not help but still like them. There are character developments as truths are unfolded, and even the evil ones in the beginning of the story are seen as compassionate beings in the end. Again, like many anime preceded before it, it has lovable characters and despicable beings. What I liked about Scryed was I could never predict who was going to die, and when they do, it is unbelievable heart-wrenching (okay, not that much). Why I do not give it an 8 or 9 or even 10 is because it is too unoriginal. Kazuma reminds me of Kurosaki in Bleach, Mimori reminds me of Relena in Gundam Wing, Kanami reminds me of many female characters in many other shows, Kimijima is like Batman's faithful sidekick... I guess I would like this anime more if I hadn't seen so many other similiar types of plots before it.

Enjoyment: I do not deny some parts really bored me, but overall, I did enjoy watching this anime. What can I say? I love action anime, and what more can I hope for if it just happens to include love and despair behind it? It did not impress me that much (at least, not as much as say, Full Metal Alchemist), but I still recommend it all to watch, unless you don't like action and prefer sappy love stories. Like I mentioned, the ending did not leave a good aftertaste on my tongue, but it was the really, really good parts that I remember the most and makes Scryed one of a must-see action anime.

the two main charaters kazuma and ryuho are the strongest people in the anime they hate the shit out of each other but if it came down to it they'd help each other out to defeat the enemy thats trying to take over the world or destroy it..
i thought the music sucked and it lacked alot.but what the hell most anime music sucks... very typical dramatic action...oh no a girl is in trouble lets go save her blah blah blah... the animation reminded me of dragonball z for some reason but overall i think scryed was a pretty cool series and i believe i'll be watching this anime over again within a year or 2 and that'll be about it

I've slept through the first 5 or so episodes of this anime. That's the reason why I gave enjoyment a 7. The first episodes are very slow, and very boring.
Until it kicks into gear...and how!

Probably one of the best anime of recent years, SCRYED delivers not only wonderfull animation and music but also boasts with well built characters and a compelling story-line. SCRYED has strengths and makes good use of them.

I tried to get myself to give this anime less than perfect 10's, but seeing as it's my favorite anime of all time... I just couldn't do it. One thing about this anime is that while some people watch it and only see the fight scenes and give it high marks just for those... it's once you look beyond the powers and see the actual character concepts, that you realize that this isn't your normal anime.

This concepts of this anime are absolute brilliance. It's not just about these people who have super powers fighting for supremacy. If that's all you see, then you aren't looking deep enough, and it truly saddens me that you are missing the deep insights into human psychology this series contains.

First of all, Scryed has two main characters who seem stereotypical enough at first...

Kazuma, the hot-headed warrior, passionate about the people he cares about and swears to protect.

Ryuhou, the disciplined soldier, fighting to protect his way of life and abiding by strict ideals.

And Scryed puts the two of them at each other's throats. They hate each other, and have completely opposite temperaments... yet are more alike than they will allow themselves to realize. They both fight for what they believe in, and they are willing to put everything on the line to prove that what they believe in is right. The beauty is that they are both fighting for exactly the right reasons anyone should fight, but like fire and ice, the existance of one is an affront to the other.

Kanami, the embodiment of innocence, yet with a maturity beyond her age born from a life of loss and hardships. Mimori, the tragic lover who does everything in her power to try and be something worthwhile to the one she loves. Scheris, Kimishima, Cougar, all the other characters are all symbolic of some of the purer states of human psychology.

Then halfway through the story turns the tables on Kazuma and Ryuhou. What happens when the Warrior Kazuma realizes he's not strong enough to protect his friends? And what happens to the Soldier Ryuhou when he discovers his faith is in ideals that were founded on corruption and greed?

They must learn to come to terms with reality and find the truth within themselves, and re-discover the reasons to live.

The story is so beautiful and its depth into the human psyche is unfathomable. I'm making myself want to watch this series a 6th time through while writing this.

Watch this anime. If you have any sort of empathic nature, you will not be disappointed at all. And the last 2 episodes are absolutely vital to this series, don't believe anyone that says they aren't needed. Mujou Kyouji isn't introduced as the villian until very late into the series, because he isn't the true enemy in Scryed at all. The real antagonists to Kazuma and Ryuhou are themselves. Their battles are with the self doubt that appears within themselves whenever they come in contact with each other.

Episodes 25 and 26 are so powerfully symbolic, not watching them is denying yourself a great insight into the true meaning of strength.

I just saw that name written on a lot of websites, that was why I checked it out. It turned out to have a certain goodness to it that I didn't expect.
On the whole, the storyline would be the best part of this anime, and it is its most important feature. I loved the character designs, especially Kazuma (I would prefer to omit the occasionally annoying characters like Mimori).
Please check this anime out and buy the DVD or something. I recommend it because of its excellent storyline, entertainment value and the way it thoroughly explores the meaning of fighting for one's freedom. There's so much passion at work here! =) This strong brew of emotions actually helps to develop your own feelings towards the characters, and you are left with having pity for the Alter Users and in due time detesting the bad guys as they come. There are also many different characters with a wide range of personalities, and it is interesting to see how they eventually neutralize their differences to fight as one force and become friends (sort of)...

Scryed is the best action superpowers anime I've yet seen. I generally dislike superpowers, because it ruins the balance between normal people and those with powers, thus making anime centering about how to redeem weakened 'normal' humans, and show viewers that one with powers doesn't mean better. Hell yeah, sure it does morons, don't sell us that bullshit. :-P Luckily, Scryed evades that quite well, by playing old tune of acceptation, combined with relatively concentrated action on a small area: Lost Ground, where Alter Users roam unchecked... or so it seems. We don't get to see any part of mainland throughout whole 26 episodes. Thus it concentrates on several peoples, making place for some character development in few cases. Yes, I said character development, and that is not a mistake. Unlike all superpower action anime (I count Trigun as sf :P) that one has story, characters, plot, twists of plot and characters are changing quite a lot. And I don't mean here change like level up, or new ability or special attack, no, my dears. Though quality of animation leaves plenty of place for improvement (and with possible exception of fight scenes and sometimes characters should be noted as example of how You SHOULDN'T make anime), sound I found quite interesting. Scryed uses fairly new combination of choir, classic music and electrical instuments. It give it quite unexpected effect, which I found very much to my liking. Few pieces are just amazing, I must say, and I am looking forward to the day when I will obtain the soundtrack to find out if it is as great as standalone, as it was while I heard it in the anime. My first, oops, sorry, second, Trigun was first, time hearing J-rock, and Reckless Fire (OP) I found likeable. Drastic Soul (ENDING) much less, but not to the point where I could not bare listening without feeling urge to turn it off or any other negative emotions. It just is... neutral.

To summ it all up, Scryed is certainly anime worth watching, You may convince it as a try to find out if You are into shounen. If You find it likeable, You might be, if You do not, don't bother with rest. Any other shounen pales when compared to Scryed, that's for sure.

Enjoyment 9, what stopped me from higher note are certain difference in treating Ryouhou and Kazuma (unfair for the latter) and Myoujo Kouji - the most annoying and evil to the core one sided villain, and to make matters even worse, that guy dared to almost be lacking in any backstory! I wanted him killed, almost right after he appeared, that much he annoyed me, with his overall behaviour.

I can't believe I'm rating a shounen anime with a perfect 10 out of 10 but no matter how hard I try not to! I have to admit Scryed is nigh on perfect!
