Before I start discussing the aspects of this second season that I did and did not enjoy, I want to say that Banner of the Stars II is another worthy addition to the fictional world of the Abhs. While not the most satisfying, the storyline follows a no-nonsense pace.

Unlike the previous storylines, Banner of the Stars II (BotS) deals exclusively with political turmoil on a prison planet. Before, the whole series took place in the midst of space war with our two main characters fighting in the campaigns. But now, there only is one skirmish throughout the whole 10 episodes. I felt like this was a nice contrast and showed an interesting end to Operation Hunter - the aftereffects of the world conquering.

I must admit, the political situations that Jinto and Lafiel had to deal with on Lobnas II wasn't the most interesting thing I've ever seen. While the dialogue between the 4 different factions as well as the various conflicts of interests scenarios were entertaining to watch, I really felt like Jinto and Lafiel's characters took a backseat. Sure, Jinto is now more responsible and diplomatic than he was in Crest of the Stars... but I didn't feel as much satisfaction here with character development.

Without really needing to be said, BotS II should not be seen in any case before the other two seasons. Those who have seen these and do NOT like them should not bother with BotS II. There is less action, less character development, and superficial political turmoil. For those who do like this series, there's no question as to whether or not they should watch it: Lafiel's reaction at the end of the series is worth grueling through 7 episodes of boring land rebellions.

Maybe I am being too harsh, the rebellion was done in a very engaging way, but it felt very meaningless because it did not further develop anything on the grand scale: it does not affect the Abh, barely affected Jinto and Lafiel because they were kept apart for so long, etc. I suppose one could argue that being distanced made them more fond of each other, but I would like to see the continuation of this series as they journey more.

The third and final installment of the Crest of the Stars epic. Though still of absolutely outstanding class, it happened to be my least favorite, though the moral and ethical questions it raises are truly fascinating.

The animation seems to regress from BotS to CotS quality, which is by no means bad. While there is a fair amount of action it is ground-based and similar to the events toward the latter half of CotS. Again, this doesn't mean it's bad, it simply lacks the "umph" from BotS.

Again, as with the previous two, same opening/ending themes, outstanding Seiyuu, background music that establishes moods.

What I loved most about the story in this installment is how much it develops Jinto and Lafiel's characters. As seen from his past experiences, Jinto is the mold of an outstanding ruler who puts his subjects before himself, and this is really played out when he is given a world to (temporarily) rule. While BotS focused a bit more on Lafiel's side of their relationship (the soldier), BotS II emphasizes Jinto's (the politician), and it does a damn good job.

Forced to deal with a prison planet whose order is rapidly deteriorating, Jinto and Lafiel are again faced with life-threatening challenges, but BotS II has them distanced from each other. Lafiel is forced to command from their ship in orbit whereas Jinto is forced to try to quell an impending civil war on the ground. It provides a layer of depth to their relationship which would not otherwise be possible and truly left me impressed. Not only this, they must try to overcome an environment awash with raw human emotion, instinct, and conflict without the physical bond of each other's company -- it proves a true test of their ability to trust and love each other. Truly impressive.

If you watched CotS and BotS you have to see BotS II. It continues, and concludes, the epic in glorious fashion. When I finished this last installment my eyes were literally beginning to water as it felt as if I were saying goodbye to two dear friends. Only a few series have been able to draw such an emotional response, and I don't think I'll find another that can compare to the brilliant job CotS/BotS/BotS II did.

Very highly recommended.

A fitting sequel to Banner of the Stars, Banner of the Stars II is another dramatic and enjoyable adventure in the lives of Jinto and Lafiel. This time, they are assigned to become the Territorial Ambassador and Deputy Ambassador to a newly conquered planet as Operation Hunter proceeds ever onward.

The animation is good; nothing too different from Banner of the Stars, though there is less space battle scenes and some ground fighting scenes. Character models are still well-done and facial expressions showcase emotions subtlely and efficiently. The sound, likewise, is very good; though the reuse of the opening song again (even though I love that song and that opening) is getting a bit repetitive. Voice actors did a terrific job.

The storytelling in this anime was great; the use of the "Tarantino" style of storytelling made the story much more intriguing as we wonder what happened to Jinto, what he said to Lafiel, and what happened to him afterwards. Also, the dynamic between the different sections of Lobdas II and the political and personal intrigue that occurs between the different factions is very entertaining.

I especially enjoyed the contrast between the Abh's lack of concern for surface Landers and their affairs and the fact that the entire story revolves around the affairs of a meaningless planet. This contrast is shown especially in the conversation between Admiral Spoor and Lafiel, and Spoor's conversation with her Chief of Staff afterwards.

As for the characters, the relationship between Jinto and Lafiel is further explored, which is a tremendous accomplishment for the storyline as there is very little actual interaction between them. It is through their time apart that this anime explores their relationship. The new side characters introduced, especially the leaders of each of the 4 factions on Labdas II; their motivations and personalities are explored, particularly through their interactions with Jinto.

I would reccomend this anime to anyone who enjoyed the first parts of this series, especially for those who wish to see more development in the relationship between Lafiel and Jinto.

the third installment of the crest/banner of the star series just works right. I mean the first two installments were awesome and this anime is consistently hitting the right marks everytime. Crest of the Stars were more smaller scale journey of Jinto and Lafiel, while the banner of the stars took it to the space. This installment has a little bit of both and attempts to consolidate the relationship between Lafiel and Jinto.

This anime has a lot of advantage as it started out because you do not need a awesome character development. They already did it in the first two series. What is really needed here is a situation where they can take the relationship between Jinto and Lafiel to get more interesting for the good or the worse.

In fact, that is what they exactly do. With the rebellion in some prison planet they suceed in taking the relationship between the two main characters to the next level while entertaining with a very dramatic storyline that is tragic and exciting.

I really don't have much to say because I saif everything in my review for the previous installments (you can read it if you want). This series is one of my favorite series of all time and this series does nothing to hurt my impression. However you do have to watch the previous two series to get full appreciation for this one so make sure you do watch them. you will not regret it.

Whereas Crest of Stars kept a balance between character developement and battles, Banner of Stars #1 focused more on battles ignoring the characters.
Banner of Stars #2 focuses more, if not exclusively on the characters, leaving the space battles for the final episodes.

This time Lamhirh and Ghintec are sent to a prison colony in planet Labhos II to settle things after various rebelions broke out. While in the previous episode the war took place in space between the Abh Empire and various factions, this time the war takes place between factions in the prison planet. The prison is separated in 3 sectors, the West that consists of women, the East that consits of men and Central that consits of sterilized women and men. And the prison staff and administration. A kind of utopian society. So the Abh representative Ghintec is sent as an intermediary. The story takes a 180 degree turn from the previous installments. It could have developed much better if it was extended to 26 episodes. Showing the viewer how that huge prison worked (staff alone were 25000) and the various conflicts would make BoS a unique anime. But unfortunately only some short references are made and the conflict is limited to the leaders of every faction.

What makes this different that CoS and BoS is that this time Ghintec and Lamhirh are much more emotional. THey've reached adulthood now and are more mature than the previous series. For a sci-fi they are very good. But not the rest of the characters that are ignored or just been given cliche roles. The action doesnt reach the height of the previous series. Only the ending is worth watching as it adds something new to the relation of the two main characters.

This could also be watched independently, since not much background info appears.

As the conclusion of the series this is the best they could come up with.

Animation couldnt get better. THe characters finally look decent and the animation reaches a new level, as well as the epic music. The ending theme is the best of the three. But since I didnt have time I skipped the opening and the ending themes.

One of the good sci-fi titles, though not so complex as Crest and Banner of Stars, but certainly more emotional

Watched it from Animefin. BoS #1 and #3 as well. They did a good job since this is one of the most difficult animes to translate.

I loved Seikai no Senki I. With that out - my expectations from Seikai no Senki II were high - perhaps too high for my own good. It's not bad, in fact it's quite good. But considering I saw all Seikai no Senki installments one after another - I couldn't help comparing it with the prequel. Long story short - it's good but not so good as it's predecessor.

*I saw this anime by downloading it from anime.fin. The aniamtion review takes this into account.* After two installments of not so great animation, WOWOW finally seemed to have a budget which would allow for good animation. The stars now look like stars, not like snow. Lafiel looks very preety - and not bony unlike the last two installments. The backgrounds are much more clearer and sharp. There are a few scenes which are repeated twice (in some cases thrice) eg. episode 7 (or 6?). This aside, the animation has finally come-of-age and is good (especailly for a 2002 series.)

The sound is the same. Read my review of Seikai no Monshou specifics.

The story as said earlier, is by no means comparable to the last installment. This series takes a breather from the battles and concentrates more on the dealings of a rogue planet. Considering the story for atleast half the time takes place on land - this title should not have been given the title Sekai no Senki II. There were a few scenes which felt out of place eg. Jinto sexuality coming into argument, the arguments of the 4 prison leaders etc. The story seemed to slacken off in the middle 2-3 episodes, but fortunately picked up in the last 4 episodes. What saves this anime from going down is the fact that the lead characters are developed in this installment.

The characters are allowed to develop more freely in this installment. Lafiel and Jinto's relationship moves to a new level and hence becomes interesting. Lafiel especially is developed and is given a more human touch. Admiral Bebaus and his cousin continue to haggle over non-sensical things like Bebaus Memoirs - providing dry comic relief. Admral Spoor also does her share - and for the first time gets very serious. However the two land characters - the woman representative and the neutered guy were useless. The prison warden however was an interesting fellow - better than rest of the Lobonas II characters.

Sekai no Senki II suffers from the fault of not balancing the story properly with the character developement. The plot suffers due to this fact (not much though). The pros are obviously that the leads are given more screen time. Sekai no Senki II is definitely a must for all fans of previous installments. For all others this is good but not the best. For me, Sekai no Senki III - here I come!!!

Third part of the epic space-opera and a decent finale for the original Seikai-trilogy (Crest of the Stars, Banner of the Stars, Banner of the Stars II), yet far from the masterpiece some people claim it is.

(Please read my reviews for the preceding two series first, as all the three parts are very similar to each other and to avoid redundancy I won't repeat everything I've said before.)

Banner of the Stars II offers some very nice development on the relationship of the two main characters, Jinto and Lafiel, using a rather unorthodox approach of having them apart from each other for the majority of the series. While I find this a clever way of revealing their true feelings for the audience, I have to admit I grew less and less interested in the actual storyline. Which is a pity, as the story of a prison-planet in chaos was initially far more appealing than all the space-fleet battles of the previous part. This time the execution of the story was just too lackluster.

The only aspect that worked well was indeed the aforementioned relationship between Jinto and Lafiel. Which was, of course, the main aspect of the whole series, so perhaps I shouldn't complain. I just think there could have been so much more to show us - instead of endlessly repeating the quirks of the Abh space-fleet admirals, the creators should have finally shown us something from the viewpoint of the other side, the enemies of the Abh.

The animation has improved slightly from the previous series, but not enough for an increased rating. The visual style of the series remains rather unique; somewhat reminiscent of much older sci-fi anime.

The soundtrack is virtually the same as before, bar a few minor changes. I reduced the rating for sound as I don't think it was utilized nearly as well as before. Or perhaps I just became bored of hearing the same tunes once again. Also, some of the voice-acting didn't sound too convincing this time.

Overall, despite my quite harsh criticism, Banner of the Stars II is an above average romantic sci-fi drama, and well worth watching for everyone who enjoys the genre and has seen the previous two parts. The DVD-release by Bandai Entertainment is good, except for a few annoying typos in the subtitles. The bonus-episode "Passage of the Stars: Birth" is also included on the third (and final) disc.

Only attempt to watch this after watching at least the summary movie of both Crest and Banner of the stars. The series is rewarding, but actually getting here will take some time. And those who hate Space stories will shun this immediately since there is a lot ot it.

Haven't seen the two other installments of the series ? Then by all means, do not watch this one ! You must absolutely have seen the two other to enjoy this one. The recipe for success is simple here : the three animes rely on both an extremely convincing atmoshpere and the interest of the viewer in the relationships between the two main characters. Obviously you'll be lacking in the latter department if you've not seen the previous seasons ;)

Anyway, back to the review. You can't go wrong with this one ! The action scenes have moved from space to ground (though you'll be presented with a few astounding space battles), but it is always as good. The outcome is rarely predictable, and you always care for what's gonna happen to the characters, and that includes the "minor" ones, and even the bad guys to some extent. The relations between the characters evolve quite a bit as well, and once again, the end leaves much room for the incoming Seikai no senki III, which will be as good as this one, without a doubt ! Then again, I still wish I could read the novel :(

Before giving out the review, enjoyment of Banner of the Stars II (Seikai no Senki 2) would be greatly heightened if Crest of the Stars (Seikai no Monshou) was watched first, then Banner of the Stars (Seikai no Senki), then this series. Banner of the Stars II does make many references and flashbacks to events in the prequels. Experiencing those memories first hand before watching this series will not dissapoint. Again, as a disclaimer, this review will assume you've watched Crest of the Stars and Banner of the Stars, and might contain spoilers to those series.

Though the main plot is about the troubles affecting a just conquered planet, the series starts out with a really onimous foreshadow. The scene that played out on my screen, where everybody was talking in Abh, but nothing was translated, made my heart drop in absolute dread as to what happens at the end. The series makes good opportunity to torture you with elements related to this possible future for our favorite leading couple. I have to say, excellent execution, like usual, and, also like usual, a good story and very engaging characters.

The romantic elements come back even stronger than in Crest of the Stars. Even though Jinto and Lafiel spend most of the series physically apart from one another, their bond between each other actually becomes stronger. So it does seem that absence makes the heart grow fonder, eh?

I am with those that proclaimed that they tended to get bored during the "exciting" battle scenes, and wanted the dialogue to come back.

And the good news? Stay tuned for Banner of the Stars III coming out in late 2005!!!

Final installment of the trilogy, Banner II is my favourite part so far. I URGE You to watch it in order, because otherwise great many deal of things will be lost for You, and it ain't good to lose such jewels. After a powerful opening You realize, that Jinto .... may be dying. And later a tale is told, that leads You to this moment. Never EVER have I been so anxious as to KNOW WHAT AND WHY happened. The old twist with You know what happens, You don't know why is here played wonderfully, causing You to twist and burn in anxiety awaiting resolution like a death or life sentence... Magificent job, great delivery, and it not only reaches the level of it's predecessors (Crest and Banner of the Stars) it outstreches them.

If You are interested in a story description (AnimeNfo hasn't got one) read MORE, story section.

How many times have you watched a show that looked as if you spent more time tying your shoes than the creators did with the show? Plenty, I’m sure. I know I have. If there’s one thing I criticize half-season anime for it’s the time wasting that is so characteristic of the length. Creators don’t seem to understand that thirteen episodes are just not the same as twenty-six. Therefore, half the anime would be exasperating and tedious filler and the other half will be half-way decent in the hope that the viewer will forget his suffering in the other half. Then they are a select few that manage to do something quite rare: be shitty throughout its entire running time. But then there are anime even rarer than that, the thirteen episode anime that is able to hold the viewer’s attention for its entirety; the half-season that doesn’t dally around and dips right into its story. Crest of the Stars has a world so complete- an admirable care to detail- that it puts most anime much longer to utter shame. It does what Twelve Kingdoms did but in a much shorter time. Filled with meaningful dialogue, outstanding characters, and a carefully structured world, Crest of the Stars is an epic, a masterpiece of its genre.

Although Jinto and Lafiel are separated in Banner of the Stars II, their relationship still manages to be stronger than ever…perhaps even more so than in the first installment. Even when apart, they’re always thinking of each other. For example, there’s a scene when Jinto is watching a sunset and wishes Lafiel is there to watch it with him. And don’t get me started on Lafiel’s worry. One thing I praised this series was for its dialogue. Not only was the dialogue great, but it was meaningful. In Banner of the Stars, there are a few pointless albeit interesting conversations. For example, in the first episode there is a long conversation between Lafiel’s younger brother and father. It was interesting because the boy expresses insecurity and worry over living in his older sister’s shadow. However, it was also pointless being that this is the only time he appears. Who cares, right? And the ninth episode is definitely the most unnecessary (and almost completely skippable) in the series. At this point, I didn’t care about anyone else other than Jinto and Lafiel, but yet there was still an ungodly amount of time dedicated to the twins. Who cares, right? Other than a few aimless moments, however, the dialogue is just as fantastic as it ever was. Check out the “debate” in episode three (“Are you a homosexual?”). Like I’ve said in my other review, there’s not much else I can say other than this is the best chapter and that I was riveted from the first episode until the fantastic ending.

The animation is very good at what it does: depicting action packed space battles and character emotions. The voice acting was carried out by an great cast and the music fit a space setting well.

What makes this series really stand out is the character development and interactions and the story in which these characters are a part of. It contained both suspensful space combat and plenty of drama between the main characters. This series is the final of the trilogy and wraps this great series up in satisfactory fasion.

This should be viewed after Crest of the Stars and Banner of the Stars. Sci-fi fans will be pleased as will fans who enjoy a story with plenty character drama.

I liked the first Banner of the Stars a lot more than this one.

Lots of reasons for this, but if I told you it'd spoil everything, so you'll just have to watch it and decide for yourself.

One major consideration is that I've seen anime that are considerably better in the primary areas of plot and character, so it's hard to see this as an exceptional series.

I would recommend watching it, though, it is definitely worth a viewing for most people.

Banner of the Stars 2 is practically perfect. However in retrospect of the entire series, I was a bit disapointed in the "war" aspect of the series. It just didnt feel big enough for me. Perhaps this series could have benefited with a fourth season that would fit somewhere between Crest and Banner 2.

I became in love with the characters, and that became my driving force for the series. Banner of The Stars 2 will rip your heart out and keep you on the edge of your seat. I love the "Post War" feeling of it...and the characters (Jinto and Lafiel) get pushed to the limits.

wow.. It finally end. The ending was perfect! Everything end in a happy way. The opening of this season might make you confuse a bit, and thought Jinto was dying!!(well he is almost dead). But as the story goes on, we know that he is not dead, and everything turn out pretty well. Now some people might thought they left out the Human vs. Abh at end. But that mean they might make more sequal out of it? The war is not end, and probely never end.

In this season they show pretty much the same thing. Talk about the plan which be best to attack United Humankind. They actually talk longer than usually, since that two brother, Brebrous(whatever) like to agure with pointless matter about their pride and shame. But somehow, all these stupid talk didn't bore me. I rather find them as funny and humorus in a way. As for the our main character(Jinto & Lafiel) act out pretty well and we finally see Lafiel crying over Jinto. What a wonderful moment that is. I love the whole series, cots, botsI, botsII, and all the extra stuff they showed.

The further adventures of Jinto and Lafiel. Unlike Banner 1, Banner 2 centers around a diplomatic scenario and places a sizable gap between the two main characters. This is a welcome change as the second installment focused mainly space warfare and tactics.

Banner 2 maintains all the good traits which have made the first two installments enjoyable. If I had one complaint, it was that certain dialouge scenes went on for too long and the humor was too dry. I should also mention that the bulk of these long talks takes place between peripheral characters creating lulls of boredom. Honestly I thought more time should have been put into Jinto for this show, but the end ultimately justifies the means.

The best of the trilogy! Hands down!

I had some problems in Banner of the Stars as it came off as a slight dissapointment regarding the storyline. But this one lived up more to the name of Crest of the Stars and delivered as an amazing sequel. After the events unfolded in Banner of the Stars, this anime goes back to what made Crest of the Stars good and it was primarily the focus on Jintu and Lafiel's relationship. Banner of the Stars had a plot that overshadowed the two main characters. However Banner of the Stars II doesnt suffer from this mistake.

The plot is fantastic. The story is the best among the three and has the same elements I liked from Crest of the Stars. Lots of political drama and an insight to the people behind United Mankind and not just Star Forces.

The best one of the three. If you've seen the ones before this I definitely recommend watching this.

More battle scenes, like in Seikai no Senki but, because the two leads have a limited "acting space", this time there is emotional depth to it. I saw a previous referense to Star Trek. I concurr somewhat but I'd actually more associate these (3) series with Star Wars (ep4-6) in scope, story and emotion. Perhaps minus Han Solo's gung-ho antics :-)
Perhaps I'm a little biased towards Sci-fi, but you cannot miss this!

ok, i gave the same rating yet again, after watching the 3rd installment of this series (i hear there may be more, but who knows)

im sorry, but i must disagree with SirNiXXOn and Robin on this one, first, i think this series added quite alot to the relationship between jinto and Lafiel BECAUSE they weren't together. And i don't believe that Jinto is Lafiel's pet human, she has great respect for him, and even does something that no abriel should do for anybody, which is i believe the "spark" as Robin says between the 2 characters. and i think the reason y the characters acted as they did at the very end was to be true to the story, and not sell out.

but i must agree with SirNiXXon when he says that in the end, the main characters are not "great badasses,or a perfect hero" and i also agree with Robin that the story was weaker then the other series, and that they never explain to much extent why the Abh, and the United Mankind "don't like each other"

once again there was amazing directing in this series, the dialogue, the emotion was amazing. I was wowed when i watched one of the scenes which pretty much is just hearing someone breathing(nothing sexual of course) which was so briliant.
anyways, i liked it alot, but it doesn't completely end the series, so i hope they may make SNS III, and bring some closure. But still i think a must see if u liked the other 2 series.(don't u dare watch these series out of order! :p )
