| Was wäre eine Gundam-Saga ohne eine Sidestory? Diesem Grundsatz bleibt man mit “Stargazer“ treu und verfrachtet das Geschehen dieser 3 recht kurzen Episoden an den Anfang der GSD-Timeline unmittelbar nach dem Junius 7-Colonydrop der abtrünnigen Coordinators. Es sollte also zuerst gesagt sein das ein wenig Vorwissen, bezüglich der Geschehnisse in Gundam Seed DESTINY, nicht unbedingt hinderlich ist um dieser ONA (Original Net Animation) inhaltlich besser folgen zu können. Ich für meinen Teil hatte zwar keine Probleme damit die Geschehnisse einzuordnen aber die Story von Stargazer hinkt trotzdem und konnte mich leider nicht wirklich überzeugen. Potential ist ganz sicher vorhanden aber was Stargazer plagt sind die typischen Abstriche die man bei einer nur wenige Episoden umfassende ONA machen muss und das sind zum einen die nicht ausreichende Zeit die man als Zuschauer hat um den Plot richtig zu verinnerlichen und zum anderen das viel zu rasante Tempo des selbigen. Der sprunghafte Verlauf drosselt jeden Anflug von Spannung und erstickt die hier und da aufflackernde Dramatik im Keim, was hauptsächlich darauf zurück zu führen ist das es den Übermittlern dieser Dramatik, sprich den Charakteren, nicht vergönnt ist sich so weit zu entfalten das man als Zuschauer in der Lage ist sich ihnen nahe zu fühlen. Die Geschichte von “Stargazer“ nimmt 2 Figuren in den Fokus die beide ihre eigenen Pfade beschreiten bis sich diese irgendwann kreuzen. 2 Figuren klingt nicht besonders viel aber das ist es angesichts der Länge von gerade mal 3 x 15 Minuten, sehr wohl und schon sind wir wieder bei der Problematik mit der nicht ausreichenden Zeit für ordentliche Präsentation und Entwicklung. Ein paar wenige Einblicke in Svens Vergangenheit werden einem zwar gegönnt und man kann diese Figur auch recht gut und schnell erörtern, aber in der Summe schafft er es nicht Eindruck zu hinterlassen. Für Selene gilt fast das Gleiche nur bekommt man in ihre Vergangenheit noch nicht mal einen klitzekleinen Exkurs. Es ist schade dass diese 2 Figuren so den Back runter gehen, denn das Potential für emotionsgeladene, tragische Helden tragen sie durchaus in sich. Es hätte eben nur ein paar Episoden mehr gebraucht, die sich näher mit ihnen befassen, sie gründlicher darstellen und zeigen was in ihnen vorgeht. Von der technischen Seite enttäuscht “Stargazer“ nicht: Die Animationen sind sehr gut gelungen und die musikalische Untermalung ist so großartig wie man es von einem Gundam aus dem SEED-Universum gewohnt ist, aber das kann leider nicht über viel zu oberflächliche Story und Charaktere hinwegtrösten. Ich brauche es wohl eigentlich kaum noch einmal zu sagen aber “Stargazer“ scheitert ganz einfach an seiner Kurzlebigkeit.

| Ever read a short story feeling that the ending was inconclusive and wishing more was added to fill in the gaps and dangling threads left? Stargazer isn't any different. It's an original net animation that is currently available in the Bandai channel, with a fee if you want to watch it over there though it seems a waste if you don't understand Japanese dialogue nor have any Japanese credit, lol. It had the "potential" to become a fresh sidestory without the brash and often irrational characters from Seed and Destiny. Oh well, on with the review.
From something that came from Sunrise, no surprise it'll feature the latest in artwork, but there were a few...downturns. I noticed that the movements of mobile suits, especially grunts, move at a god-awful and generic pace. Seen Seed, then expect recycled animation, instead of Strike Daggers and Ginns exploding in the same footage, we have Civilian Astrays and Slaughter Daggers destroyed with the exact same fashion. The Gundam fights are new nevertheless, but they should really stop making only the Gundams having real battles. Well, if it results to rising model kit sales, why stop? Character designs are a little different with a new designer handling the project, but the fact that it nicely blends with Hisashi's character art is very well done. A plus for Sunrise. Well, in the end, it has its ups and downs.
Another dive here. Seriously, there was no OP and I could care even less about the ED, generic melodramatic pop trash. BGM was so low that I forgot that there was even one. With something this short, spending so much time on music seems to be a waste. That's probably what the staff thought as well.
Two words: TOO SHORT! I mean, three episodes is bad enough, but making each and every one of them 15 minutes is unforgiveable. The story jumps from one even to another without any proper in-between events besides the ones from Destiny. I couldn't rate it any higher since the story basically is about the second CE war.
Ah, the backbone of the the ONA, character development and interaction. Almost every major person present were able to have a dialogue and "quiet" moment with the series main characters, Selene and Sven. Although past lives aren't explained much, Sven's was very different. In only a a few stillclips and scenes, you already grasped what Sven's past and his reason for ending up as who is now. Not bad, not bad at all. Too bad they would've made it better by lengthening it up...
IMO, watching these individual episodes and paying them is silly. If you'd want to have your own copy, wait till it gets localized and that it has all three episodes. It'll save you cash and disappointment.
In reality, I fear the future of the Seed saga. With Destiny not being widely received as its predecessors, the marketing ploys of Bandai and now this. With the upcoming Seed movie, they might still have a chance to float back up, but a lot of people are skeptic, even me.
