I was first introduced to this series from a DDR sim. The girls in the anime looked cute and the songs sounded comparably cute. Also, the plot which is to a degree music-related had me thinking optimistically that it might be like Full Moon wo Sagashite.

I was wrong. This anime just lacks plot and value. It had the character animation and a decent voice cast yet there was no hook. I finished this series, but only because I forced myself to finish the whole thing.

This anime to me is an example of an anime which tries to drag in publicity via cuteness, but has nothing outside of that. Plot seems non-existent as is the theme. To me, plot is everything to the anime and it makes or breaks the whole structure of it. Sometimes the actions of the characters make no sense either.

My take is avoid this anime and if you enjoy cute characters, there are plenty more animes that sport cute characters with an actual plot. I would recommend something like Clannad instead.

This was bad. Really bad. If you look at it from first impressions then this anime would look super cute with six sparkling young girls. Eh. Dig a little deeper into this anime and you'll see that this was all nonsense fluff that had the potential to be good.

The animations were average. Character designs are cute if you just look at them, but go inside a little further into the anime and you'll see that sometimes it's messed up. With eyes in awkward positions and the facial features don't look the same as you see and some of the good shots. For an anime about music, the LoveDols didn't have that many good songs. Maybe the ED song was a bit catchy, but that doesn't redeem the series. I mean Full Moon wo Sagashite had good music and that anime turned out to be a success. What happened to Lovely Idol that causes it to be a massive failure?

The story is flat out boring. It's about a bunch of teenage girls that want to become singers, because we all know that every girl wants to become a singer when they grow up. It's kind of funny how the audience is all males. Does that mean that they suck at singing and can only win in looks? Is that what all singers are based upon nowadays? I shouldn't think harder than I should for such a failure anime like this. The story gets off-topic a lot. From cooking, hide and seek, making dog sounds, wearing swimsuits, talking about boring stuff that are unrelated to singing whatsoever. Those moments were dull and so were the singing parts, so Lovely Idol had nothing for it at all.

The character were poorly developed. Most of the girls had no background story and had no reason for singing whatsoever. The main female had a motive, but her motive was downright silly. "I sing for revenge." Ha, that made me laugh when I first heard it. Not even the manager had any character development. Instead of dramatic characters we get annoying whiny characters that want to sing just for fame and fortune. That's fine and all, but do they have to be so annoying at times.

What could have been a good show turned out to be a failure. I couldn't stand this show after episode three and I don't know how I managed to get through the other nine episodes. I guess this anime would only appeal to young girls that like cute things or want to become singers themselves. Because little girls only care about cute girls and they wouldn't mind the horrible story anyway, it's perfect for them. For a singing show this anime is horrible, even Hannah Montana is more fun to watch than this.

Lovey Idol Love Dol is an anime about music. The story is about 4 girls trying to have their debut as the 3rd batch of the Love Dols. However they have difficulties achieving that dream. Including the manager is having a tough time trying to help them.
The girls try their best to make their dream come to a reality. This anime is mostly on the cute side. I really liked the animation it had really nice texture. For sound well hmm. It's a music anime. Of course its got to be good. Or so i thought. Well intro opening wasn't too bad i suppose. Music in the series was pretty solid. They picked the right voice actors. However there's some little awkward voicing in some areas. The song at the end was good It was actually probably the strongest way to finish the anime which was good.
Well as the story develops they crew gets two more members. One is the manager's younger sister. He was quite surprised that she would sign up as a Love Idol. Next we have a street performance girl. She's Ruri. She's the most interesting character. Why? Because she sings for revenge. Whoa she sings for revenge? Not only that. She hates singing? Whoa. Revenge and hate? Doesn't add up. I don't want to go into detail too much because it would ruin the story. But the manager comes and tells that he wants to put her in the Love Dol team. She refuses though. He doesn't give up until he just says. I know you have a good voice. Put it to good use. But its your choice if you want to join or not. But i can help you fulfill your revenge.

After that we get them to do small jobs before they have their debut. Well this is mostly a music anime not really a love-romance. I guess the love-romance only affects the manager and other sub-characters. If you like music well then you might enjoy this.

Lovely Idol, or Lovedol as its affectionately known, is a series that follows in the footsteps of many music idol series. One could name the series along the same genre as Lemon Angel Project, Chance Pop Session, or even Full Moon wo Sagashite, the latter of which is among the best series in terms of depicting a singer who wants to reach her dreams for stardom.

Putting this series in the same sentence as Full Moon wo Sagashite is almost a complete disservice, because this series...well...is not good at all. It features a tediously predictable storyline, relatively flat characters, and for a music series, it doesn't really deliver on all points in terms of the music spectrum, though to the series credit: I will say that I did like some of the songs featured.

The series depicts the story of six girls who wish to become the next Lovedol group: following in the footsteps of two preceding groups who've amounted to much success in the pop music spectrum. Manager Tomohiro Fujisawa has been successful in terms of leading the success of the first two groups, but when the company blocks the debut of the third group, he finds his hands tied with trying to find the missing link. Not only do the girls only have four members, but their connectivity seems to lack a prescence...

That link is none other than Mizuki Sakaki, an independent musician playing upon the streets of Tokyo, using music as a mode of "revenge"-something that could have been the driving point of this series if it were consistently reinterated. When Fujisawa asks her to be a part of the group, she flatly denies it, but events lead otherwise, and Mizuki finds herself among a bubbly cast of girls, including the manager's overzealous sister who happens to fall with a position in the proposed "third group".

What I didn't like about Lovedol: the characters are so flat that you can't pinch a bit of flesh from them. It's really hard to get a feel for their characters, let alone lknow them, perhaps save for Mizuki and Mai. Mai happens to stand out for her rather tomboyish and outgoing nature, while Mizuki seems to be the only one of the girls with a bit of backstory and reasoning behind her character. The rest...are quite forgetable to a tee. Even the manager's character I found I didn't like..and his awkward character design didn't help matters much either....

For the story: it would have been a lot better if the series had decided on what it wanted to be: it tries to be a slice of life series, but the characters are not strong enough to carry it. It tries to be a music series, but none of the performance have that much heart. It tries to be a romance series, but it seems that "every" (yes, I mean every) girl from the first two Lovedol groups has a mode of affection for the manager...who seems like such a unfortunate sap in the overall scheme of things.

Average animation, decent music, but terribly, terribly poor character and plot construction lead me to say that this is a series I wouldn't recommend. It's under a typical harem series with love-romance headings...yet it really doesn't do a good job setting up any sort of romantic relationships within any of these characters. How the girls could fall head over heels with the manager...I really couldn't say-the series doesn't do a good job of establishing any of the "potential" relationships. It seems quite one-sided and contrived.

Definitely disappointed with this.
