| Forty-two classmates forced into an island, supplied with weapons and made to kill each other. Only one winner, only one survivor - the price for victory is the most important thing itself - life. If you were put into such a situation, could you kill all the people who were once your best friends? Or would you go insane from stress and fear and just suicide? Or maybe you'll just find it as an interesting challenge to liven your boring life? Maybe you'll try going against rules and try to save everyone from the cruel fate? Which actions are wrong and which ones are right - only after reading this manga you will be able to judge.
Battle Royale is one of the best mangas I have ever read. Was it an anime - I would have probably rated it higher, yet I noticed that manga as a whole tends to have better plots, more detailed character development and more "soul" than anime. That's why you shouldn't compare manga's grades with anime ones, since you can expect far more from mangas potential. Anyway, Battle Royale is not for people of soft heart or gut, it's so gory it can make a butcher sick. Ever seen a person still trying to survive after his belly has been cut and all of his insides are leaking little bit little? That's how gory it is. But even though, gore is not the most important factor of the brilliance of this manga. It's the story. So deeply psychological looking straight into the human nature, you can easily compare what kind of people are better at survival than others. Characters are not one dimensional either. All of the 42 are given at least the minimal amount of personality and background, every single one has at least one page of flashback from their normal lives. Though of course, the group of obvious "main" characters are far more detailed than the lesser ones. These few people, wow, some of them are really great. You will definitely feel extremely involved when you see them trying to kill each other. The best thing - you never know who is going to win, I mean, only one is supposed to survive right? So you know that no matter how important other characters are - they will still die, you just don't know when. Hehe.
If you can stomach extreme gore and violence and have liking for intelligent, thought inducing stories - read this manga. Sorry to repeat it again - but it's one of the best mangas I have ever had a pleasure to read.

| Phewwww this is sinfully awesome! Few mangas bring out more carnage, sex, violence, and destruction than Battle Royale. As expected of the subject matter which brought about a cult following, Battle Royale never ceases to amaze from start to end.
While the character interactions in the manga are weaker than that in the book, there is plenty of action to make up for it. With blood sex and destruction, this is the perfect manga for those seeking hardcore entertainment.
For those who have seen the movie (first one), this manga essentially is the same thing (with a few more side stories, more sexual scenes, and cooler fighting scenes). Even so, Battle Royale is worth reading just to see everyone duke it out all over again.

| This manga is one of the coolest ones ever! If you like blood, extreme gore, and lots of sex... Then this manga is for you! I cant belive im the only one whos reviewed this... oh well... My friend thougt it was gay when i told him about it but he read it and fell in love with it instantaly! wow... Read it!
